I bought this Blu-ray based on the fact that I absolutely loved these filmmakers' previous movie, Driven. Also, I wanted to hear from them in the extras. This movie was quite a disappointment. While I respect them for it, it seems like they wanted to do something entirely different, something more along the lines of a Hollywood thriller (with no budget). One thing glaringly missing from Killer Concept is the snap, crackle, and pop of the dialogue found in Driven, an essential key to what made that movie great. Why these same writers/filmmakers abandoned that in favor of something more traditional is a little confusing to me (I would think they'd want to be known for their great dialogue).

I will say, this is one great looking film done on a $900 budget, professionally lit and edited, great job on sound. Technically, this is a terrific accomplishment.

Two filmmakers are writing a movie about a local serial killer, and unkowingly have hired the killer himself to help them out. Killer concept, but I felt like they didn't exploit enough of the intriguing situations a plot like this would seem to present. Also, as has been mentioned in other reviews, the killer's identity is revealed far too soon. This concept is begging them to have fun with an is-he-or-isn't-he plotline.

I really respect this creative team, and look forward to what they do next. I just hope they're still willing to take more chances, as I felt this flick was a little too plain for my tastes.

What Are You Doing? Mark?

Three people talking about making a movie about a currently on the loose serial killer.

So they talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk. You see where this is going? And finally one of them decides he's a loony and he's going to become at least a kidnapper if not a killer.

And the end, it was okay considering the whole movie is pretty much a boring talkfest.

An Interesting, Well-Done Indie

I enjoy scary films. No, let me clarify. Good scary films. And they are hard to come by, that's for sure. There are only a handful that are released every year that could be considered good. And if you happen to be a hard-to-please horror aficionado, there are only a handful every decade that could be considered good. So any time a fresh idea for these types of films arrives online, I'm happy to watch. Killer Concept is a fun little jaunt into the genre, and for the most part, I enjoyed this one. I thought the lead actress did an especially fine job too. My only issue with Killer Concept is that the identity of the killer was revealed far too soon, deflating some of the suspense that Director Glenn Payne may have achieved otherwise. A small, but significant in the film's overall arc. That said, this is a well-done indie that recalls "Tales from the Dark Side" and shows that it doesn't take an enormous budget to make an effective story come to life.

A surprisingly well made film

When I rate a film, I don't compare it to other films; I let it stand on its own two feet. That being said, Killer Concept checked the box I find most important- it entertained me. I liked the characters and felt the acting was consistent with the tone of the film. It's an interesting take on the slasher genre. The writing was good and the direction offered an interesting perspective. While not necessarily scary (a lot of slasher films aren't) it was sufficiently moody with really great photography, colors and locations. The production design was well done. Overall, it was a great time!

Solid Indie Film

I thoroughly enjoyed this film! It kept getting better and better as it went along. A good sign for me is that I was off my phone the entire time while watching this terrific indie film. Big congrats to the cast. I found them all very enjoyable and believable along with an engaging storyline. The Director did a great job with the pacing. There were no flat spots for me! Clearly this film gets a Thumb's Up from me!!

good Indie thriller

Thankfully, this is not a low budget thriller trying hard to be a big budget movie - no, instead it lives well and unapologetically within its budgetary restraints and restricted locations and serves as a fine calling card for its multi-talented director who also plays one of the leads. Without giving too much away, it's interesting to observe how his character develops within the wannabe film writer group from near-stone-face reserve into the tales centerpiece around which everyone else revolves. The story concept itself is interesting enough, even if it could have benefited from more character background. The ending serves up a genuinely well-staged twist that I was not prepared for.

Dark comedy gold.

If you like Hitchcock style horror /suspense with a dash of humor your sure to enjoy Killer Concept. A tour de force performance by stars Glenn Payne, Casey Dillard, Coley Bryant. Delivering the jokes and the horror seamlessly without falling into the cliche tropes of incestuous hillbillys, blood or killer clowns.

Turn the lights down, grab some pop corn and enjoy the show.

The right dose

Not only does Killer Concept offer a unique take on its subject matter, but it punches well above its indie filmmaking weight in terms of performances and production values. Overall, an enjoyable movie that delivers the familiar and the unexpected in the right dose.

Killer Concept is well a Killer Concept

This movie combines 2 of my favorite things. Horror movies and movies about making/writing movies. The concept was tons of fun and felt very fresh. I enjoyed the balancing of the tone. The "fake" horror movie we get to watch in there they're while they explain there ideas to each other is a great visual idea. I thought he film was very well paced, never over stays its welcome and had some great lighting. Overall a surprisingly well made and entertaining indie film. I definitely recommend it!

There is a lot to like about this movie.

First of all, the camera work is fantastic, and the music is on point. Not your average serial killer movie. This one comes from a different and exciting perspective. All actors do a great job, but Mark's character is outstanding, played by who also happens to be the director (Glenn Payne).

It is very nice to find independent projects of such quality and talented people. The story has many surprises, which I won't talk about, but expect the unexpected from start to finish.

I highly recommend it!
