OMG.
ssochet8 December 2022
A very strange, disturbing, uneven, and awkwardly written "film" about a young girl whose parents abandons, sort of. It's tough to tell what's going on. There are flashbacks that don't quite feel like a flashback, feeling more like quick cuts into a slightly related but somehow different movie. It's not just that if feels amateurish, sometimes amateur actors can pull it off. Look at the Clerks series. They were able to make you connect with them. This film pushes you away.

Yikes. Sorry. Harper doesn't rate for me writing out six hundred characters. You must pass on this wacky film that wasn't intended to be wacky.

Has the world gone crazy?

This film should be shown in every film school-of how NOT to make a film. Horrendous writing coupled with amateur acting, accented with incompetent directing, and stitched together by Frankenstein editing. Not a believable moment to be had. Sad for all the wrong reasons.

Amateur hour!

This is the worst film I have seen! There is something seriously wrong with the writing, the acting and especially the directing. Who is that child actress? Hopeless!

Like a feature length "Afterschool Special"
stevenpaulbraden22 December 2021
Back in the day, my neighborhood pals would gather at someone's house w/a color TV (in the 70's not everyone could afford one.) And ocassionally instead of cartoons, once in a blue moon, we'd be treated to a 30 min afterschool special usually about kids in crisis. So when I stumbled across the trailer, I decided to take my own elementary age daughter & even got some friends w/kids to go watch this one afternoon. And actually the kidz really seemed to get into it...the story seemed to strike a chord especially in one who's adopted.

Obviousy this was a very limited budget type of flick, so if you're expecting production values like the latest Spiderman reboot, you'll be disappointed. But the girls in our group got into it as a character study. I mean how often is the main protagonist in a film an 11 yr old girl?

You can't choose your family & Harper shows how life's circumstance can push one into situations beyond our control but relationship building with extended family contains a fragile beauty that can color ones life in this coming of age story.

It's a good movie!

A picture that is both simpler and more profound than you imagined. The end is deeply ambiguous, neither punishing nor condoning its characters' behavior. It simply asks us to sit with them - to pay them the respect of attention, and learn something about ourselves in the process. Fantastic performance by Kayla.

A bold and innovated memoir
katebohanfilm16 January 2022
The themes of "Harper" are very personal to me. I drew inspiration from my own childhood and life story, letting my personal experiences and memories help me breathe life into the film.

This is a touching story with tears in laughter and laughter in tears, positing that above all else, love is the strongest armor; that the most difficult times will eventually end, and hope will carry you through. And with those insights, I hope people will learn to have more empathy for each other and be supportive of people less fortunate than themselves.

I am also honored to work with my crew. They are very talented and worked so hard to bring their knowledge and experience as creators to bear in helping me bring this project to life. Without all of them there would be no movie. They are the real heroes and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

We all have hardships in our lifetimes and unfortunately there are some experiences that we cannot avoid. All we can do sometimes is make the best of what we have and hope that there will be people who are kind to us along the way. For me it is a story that stirs my soul and shakes me to the core. I hope that it does the same for you.

A powerful movie that demands attention"👍

After watched This film . I showed it to my family first. Fortunately, I felt that the relationship at home was eased, especially my father, who cried after reading it, and his attitude towards me changed, and he began to tell me some of his thoughts. And my grandfather was willing to have surgery after watching this movie. These are all unexpected gains. " Director Kate Bohan Is Absolutely extraordinary.

Powerful, heartfelt and well done movie!
isadora_pastragus16 January 2022
This was one one the most heartfelt movies I have seen a in a long time. Kayla Bohan's acting was marvelous, so powerful yet subtle. She make me go from crying to smiling, to being angry. Her entire performance throughout the movie was a real tour de force. Very impressive indeed for a 11 year old!

The story was beautifully written, and the filming was exquisite. The director, Kate Bohan is one of the most fascinating filmmakers of her generation.

The ending was a big surprise, and I left the theater with a lifted heart. I would watch this movie over and over, and I will highly recommend it to everyone.

Moving Storyline
mskateroth4 February 2022
Harper is a film that doesn't rely on the obvious and easy choices of excessive violence, swearing, or sexual encounters. It has the courage to stand by simple and strong themes: love, bravery, discipline, and commitment. While the film focuses on a child lead, it is created to be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a heartwarming and inspiring story; truly a breath of fresh air in this cynical age of cheap humor and fast paced story lines.
