Beautiful and lively animated short that will have you up and cancing!
rannynm8 March 2021
Us Again is a beautiful and lively animated short film that will surely have you up and dancing! The choreography of the animated characters, the intricate details, and the underlying message all combine to make this a lovely watch.

The seven-minute short film follows an elderly man and his young-at-heart wife living in a vibrant metropolis with echoes of New York City. The man is ever-tired and only wants to sit on his lounge chair reading the newspaper, while his wife yearns to explore the world outside. One rainy, magical evening, their ages truly seem just a number, and the couple re-discover their passion for dancing, salsaing their way across a landscape of memories. It's a beautiful story told through rhythm and movement.

The animation in Us Again is truly stunning; the design taps into emotions, encapsulating the excitement and hubbub of a huge city, with neon lights, beautiful textural details on the water, and even on the tiny black umbrellas people carry walking down the street. Us Again shows us Disney's future; extreme detail in animation. The two main characters of this short also have lots of expressive features, and you can tell that Disney's animation technology has gone to the next level when light details like crow's feet are added in. Even their dance steps convey emotion! Speaking of the dancing, acclaimed choreographers/dancers Keone and Mari Madrid were crucial to the process of creating Us Again because they came up with all of the dance steps, which flow so smoothly and naturally in animated form. There are no jerky movements at all, and it's as if you're watching an animated version of Dancing With The Stars. The background score (though it really does push its way to the foreground) also adds so much to this short. Something I noticed in the seven-minute film: Keep an eye on the puddles, because the characters' reflections show the characters as their older selves throughout the film, even in scenes where the characters traverse through memories from ages ago. This demonstrates the incredible attention to detail in Us Again.

The message of Us Again is to never let go of your passions (and your youth), and, if you do, be sure to make an effort to rekindle the fire in your heart. It's an apt message for a time like the one we're living in now, when we have the time to follow our passions and pursue new hobbies.

I give Us Again 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 8 to 18, plus adults. Us Again will be shown before Disney's latest film, Raya and the Last Dragon, only in theatres, and it will be available on Disney+ in June of 2021. Reviewed by Eshaan M., KIDS FIRST!

Dancin' in the rain.
Pjtaylor-96-1380448 June 2021
'Us Again (2021)' is essentially a musical without any singing which tells the story of an old man whose reluctance to move with the beat puts a strain on his relationship with his wife. That all changes when a strange rain seems to wash away his wrinkles (and his inhibitions), transforming him back into the playful dancer he was in his youth. The short manages to convey its story and emotion entirely with its choreography, which is enhanced by beautiful lighting and generally gorgeous rendering. It has a relatable theme and it conveys it well, aiming for that Pixar-like emotional punch. While it doesn't quite hit as hard as it perhaps could have, it works well enough and feels satisfying. It is a tad repetitive in its midsection and it's only ever so gripping, but it's typically enjoyable and energetic. It's worth a watch. 6/10.

Yea okay

Was it cute? Yea, were the animations great? Also yea, but apart from that, it has pretty much nothing more going for it. It wasn't bad, but wasn't really anything spectacular either.

Cozy
simonlegosson4 June 2021
It's a nice little short but there is not really anything special about it. I didn't really like the 3D models for the main characters since they just looked a bit bland, especially when you compare it to the characters in Pixar's shorts. It isn't a must see but it's really cozy and just 6 minutes long so it's not like you are wasting several hours of your life watching it. I was going to rate it 6/10 but then I noticed that the male main character flossed in one of the pictures showed at the end credits which brought it down a point for me since I don't like the Backpack Kid or Fortnite.

Warning: Spoilers
Us Again on Disney+ is literally one of the best shorts I've ever seen. The music, movements and meaning had me teary eyed!

Each moment and movement has a meaning that's so impactful. I thought about the beauty and luck to have somebody in your life who you grow old with. The love that you feel when she holds his face after the rain is so warm. The metaphor of the rain and aging while we chase what was while neglecting what is. It's breathtaking.

This is truly one of the best shorts I have ever seen. I felt like time stopped in a moment when I imagined a love everlasting.

What a heartwarming and motivational story. It really hits you right in the feels and the animation is incredible. I absolutely love the music and the dancing. From the beginning it draws you in and has you wanting to dance along. This short reminds us to appreciate life and have fun, no matter what age you are. I highly recommend watching this. You won't be disappointed.

I don't understand all the hype about this short.

It's just old people dancing in the rain. I don't hate it, I just don't understand it.

Amazing

Us Again is an amazing Disney short! I loved it! Different from all of their other shorts in that it's solely telling a story through dance, which I love and was able to connect with. Everyone who worked on this did an amazing job.

Nothingness with a beautiful wrapping Warning: Spoilers
"Us Again" is an American animated short film from May 2021, so fairly recent still and if you take a look at the number of votes here on imdb, it is of course this high because it is a Disney short film as we see with Mickey (or Mortimer at that point still?) whistling his melody on the boat or ship. But this one here is maybe almost a century older than old Mickey and the writer and director of these seven minutes is Zach Parrish. Nothing unusual with Disney (or Pixar) that they pick animators to be in charge of their short films and if they turn out successful, they maybe even get a shot at directing the next big full feature blockbuster. If you take a look at everything Parrish has worked on in the last ten years, nobody can really be surprised that he got an opportunity here to make a splash as the man in charge. I would not say it was successful, even if many will disagree probably looking at the imdb rating. For me this film here is a typical example of society desperately dragged into the world of movies as this one here feels a lot about make-believe. I don't care about the female character's ethnicity or anything, but how she is exactly the one trying to inspire the grumply old White man is indeed a bit much at times in the first half.

The movie gets better in the second half, but it's still not even close to being enough for a positive recommendation. I mean the magic element can only justify so much. The rain does not turn him into a young man physically again, but just brings back his spirit and motivation and energy it seems. That is okay. Then you could still ask why all this is all of a sudden gone once he is out of the rain again. Or why it was gone in the first place, especially if you take a look at how he almost dances early on when we are still supposed to see him as a grumpy old man. And don't say it is to show us it is still inside him. He is deliberately letting it out in a restrained manner there too, which strongly goes against the story and how we are supposed to see him there. The cutest moment is maybe the hug on the bench. I think this would have been enough of a happy ending for me, but they do go over the top again in the end with the dancing moment. These shots that come with the closing credits also did nothing really for me unfortunately. It just felt rushed to get a few more quick laughs, but the material is not good enough. One thing impossible to criticize here is the animation. This looks as good as expected with Disney and we still should not take it for granted. The music is also pretty cool, no denying there. I just wish the story overall could have better. Evven at considerably under ten minutes, this drags quite a bit early on, which is nothing to be proud of at all. Gotta hand out a negative recommendation here and I suggest you skip the watch this time. Or maybe you will like as much as many other and not see the shallow approach at the center of it all. I genuinely hope this will not be a contender at the next Academy Awards, but I guess it could be given the company behind it and certain politically correct elements. Maybe the really early release date could work against it. I sure hope so and I am positive we will be getting many superior animated films in the coming months. Don't be tricked by the looks (and sound) of it into thinking this is greatness. It's rather close to the opposite end of the quality scale.

You Can't Stay Young Forever
Spencer-Staggs31 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was . . . Let me say it: Beautiful. "Us Again" is a great short film about an elderly couple. After introducing the two characters we see them young, youthful, and dancing together in the rain, but Every Time they step out of the rain they turn old. Soon the rain leaves them and the elderly man accepts this. He offers his wife to dance and they have a short and beautiful dance. The short ends here and we see the two spending time together during the credits.
