French Cops
kosmasp14 May 2022
Or is it funny cops? Well I guess there is a mixture, because while this is ridiculous in one sense, it has quite a few intense action scenes on the other hand. Not to mention quite the explicit violence and at least one really awful looking death (and I don't mean the CGI).

That all being said, the movie is predictable and if you don't get down with the comedy and the humor - you might have an issue watching this. The "fine" line between humor and action, may not be for everyone. The movie is decent - but you'll get the vibe it has from the first scene. When the police is unable to figure out which door to use ... you'll either think this is funny or you better switch the movie off.

Typical afternoon session movie
lso-soares1 June 2022
Take Down (Loin du Périph).

Once again, director Louis Leterrier and actor Omar Sy work together. After directing a few episodes of the great series Lupin, Leterrier is behind the camera in this French crime comedy available on Netflix.

It's a beat-up story, with two cops of different styles who haven't seen each other in a long time, having to work together to investigate a murder in a small French town.

Clichés after clichés, predictability, bad jokes. What saves is the always enlightened presence of Omar Sy, playing the police officer Ousmane Diakhité and some fun scenes between him and Laurent Lafitte, a member of La Comédie-Française, who in the film is the police officer François Monge.

It's a typical afternoon session movie, to watch, rest your head, laugh a little and then forget about it.

Pleasant entertainment
eexit_18 May 2022
Chill movie with a bit of violence and humor seasoned with clichés. For sure there no surprises, the movie rolls smoothly even the pace is rather good.

The competition between the two main characters somehow funny but eventually gets annoying. The end was mostly disappointing, the story should have gone all the way through or not at all because it was very lame.

Netflix has a tendency at not ending well its creations.

Entertaining

Action, funny dialogues and a good Omar Sy as usual. But don't expect too much from the story.

Anyway, if you don't have something special to do at a Saturday evening this could work.

I spent a good time with my wife and we could laugh a lot. 6/10.

Can't resist Omar smile !!!

Fast French action comedy !

Casting is great Location in the French Alps is wonderful.

The movie is little too "American" but, then again, Omar Sy is so endearing and funny !!

Laurent Laffite is a great match casting to Omar Sy.

I love Omar Sy, but this is terrible
matteozanasi6 May 2022
Most cliché movie I've seen in forever, it's so predictable it hurts. Such a shame since the cast is actually quite capable and the plot isn't half bad.

Once in English, Once in French
tinkkytone15 January 2023
I watched this twice. Once with subtitles in English and the other with dubbed English voice actors. I liked both versions, but if you want the full value for your watching experience then the original audio is the way to go. French is a beautiful language, and in addition the actors original delivery makes certain scenes infinitely more funnier. For a buddy cop movie that's formulaic, The Takedown, works surprisingly well because the two leads have a believable and comical relationship. Think Lethal Weapon, but with French tropes instead of American. The Takedown is what you get when you pair an effete French elite with a hard nose Paris street cop. Add in some neo-Nazis, the far right political movement currently sweeping Europe, and car chases around France's scenic countryside and this is what you will get in this movie. It's nothing special, but it is enjoyable in two languages.

Recommended.

Not for anyone over 16
Otte110 May 2022
If you remove a couple of nude scenes this would be a funny cop movie for Nickelodeon. The comedy is forced, the action is edited so much that you not sure what is happening(there was 23 edits in 10 seconds). When it is not over-edited, the comedy scenes are drawn out to make sure you chuckle. On top of that, it plays most of the cliches' to overcome the non-existant writing. If you like simple, not serious, dumb movie to pass the time, then this is for you. If you are a thinker...skip.

Fun French buddy cop action comedy
The Takedown is a French buddy cop action-comedy in the same spirit of Lethal Weapon and the Rush Hour movies. Two fiercely competitive old pals reunite again to solve a murder that involves far right fascist anti-immigrant group and drug trafficking.

As the two-protagonist work to solve the mystery of the murder, their competitive personalities clash and makes for hilarious scenes. The pacing of the film is almost identical to the Rush Hour/Lethal Weapon films, but the comedy scenes are fresh and new. There is a chase scene in carnival bumper cars inside a large supermarket that look fun as all hell.

A typical nowadays bad low budget Netflix movie
medd-8348611 May 2022
Very disappointing, bad but mostly cheap movie. The only ones who could probably laugh at this were the writers and director because it wasn't funny at all, more forced! A 2022 movie with a lot of clichés, a bad soporific story, annoying cringy characters and 'action' you have already seen a million times in low budget bad movies. When you start a movie you mostly wanna watch it till the end but this movie is going to make it very difficult for you!

A nostalgia trip
msstephi23 July 2022
I grew up watching Eddie Murphy in Bel Air Cop, Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan in Rush Hour and of course Will and Martin in Bad Boys.

And let me tell ya - I miss those kind of comedy movies packed with action. They're the perfect Friday adventure where the black guy can be funny as well as smart and the blowstuffup-action makes it all complete.

Omar Sy does a great job as always being both funny, charming and smart. And although he's not on the same level of funny as neither Chris Tucker nor Eddie Murphy just yet (and tbh it's a level of funny few actors will ever reach so hey, I'm good) - he's still very funny.

No, it won't win an academy award but I'm guessing both you and the producers already knew that and that's not what you're here for.

Giving it a 10 to remove some hate - and telling you; give it a chance and accept it for what it is: a great comedy action movie, emphasis on Comedy!

Buddy Film Lite
neil-douglas20107 May 2022
This could've been a really good film, like a French Lethal Weapon. There are a lot of faults with the movie though. Worst is that every time the film looks like it's going to be more serious, dodgy comedy comes to the fore. This is a problem with the script and not the actors. The two leads are likeable as is Izia Higelin as Alice. The action scenes are also excellent, just a shame it gets a bit silly.

Unfunny, overly long scenes. Really bad film.
joeri_hb7 May 2022
This would have been enjoyable for small children if not for explicit content. Now it's not enjoyable for anyone. This is painfully bad and it almost physically hurt me to watch this movie until the end.

It's ok
famriverarodriguez7 May 2022
It's has funny moments, but I searched the parents guide and it didn't say anything.

Has some scenes where privates are shown, for example, ¹a dead man's body, ²they go to a strip club and one scenes it's was ³a woman on the shower, *a man on the shower but in the last mentioned didn't show much. It also has some racist language.

A pretty great netflix movie all around. Iv'e never seen the other film as I did not know there was one. But from what I could tell that one must be good aswell. The cast were all good and fun and alice was cute. There was some great action mixed with some gore and comedy elements combined with it worked well. Altogether a great netflix film.

Below average
Other than some decent action scenes, the acting was poor, the writing was very predictable and the on screen chemistry was non existent. Add in a little corny racist comments against white people and you have this awful movie. The fight scenes look like children when they play fight in the back yard. They just don't make good movies like they used to anymore.

A bright delight
royandkyoko21 May 2022
Lovable but miscast in 'Lupin', it always enjoyable to watch Omar Sy. The photography, with the bright iconic lighting and costuming, was artistic and refreshing. It's nice to watch comedies that don't get sidetracked with sentimentality and have a forced moral tale haplessly stuck at the end. It's fun and enjoyable and evident that they actors enjoyed the making of this one too.

Cringe
mistabobdobolina14 May 2022
Between bombastic action sequences that take way too long to get where they're going, a predictable plot and leaning heavily into screwball buddy-cop comedy that just doesn't land, this is mostly a misfire. Sy and Lafitte do their best with the material, and Izia Higelin brings her own brand of luminous charisma to her screen time, but they're let down by weak writing and embarrassingly juvenile jokes at every turn. One is better off watching a movie that does this formula right, like Rush Hour or the original Lethal Weapon.

Funny but needs a Parent Guide
kdchbne9 May 2022
Typical buddy comedy and Omar is great. We watched the dubbed version and still managed to enjoy it. Some typically French perspectives on nudity are present (meaning it's not overly sexual but matter of fact) and some conversations about sexual relations which would have been nice to know before the full frontal penis shot. Even the scene where he was oiling up the stripper wasn't very sexual and she was at least wearing tassels, but might have been good to know before.

Funny movie

Except for the references to Hitler and white supremacy. Could have been funnier without the racist comments. Cute humor regarding male bonding and interesting reunion between the two cops.

Funny and not boring at all!
ecomike7730 May 2022
Well acted, funny, humorous, and with many unexpected events. It is also funny to see all the lepenists (and friends) getting angry and writing bad reviews to this very funny and unexpected movie. But we all know their feelings, when people make fun of their ancient approach to life ;-)

Actually enjoyed my first French film. It was good.
karenjuneau8 May 2022
This is my first review ever. We chose this movie because it was in the top 10 of the day. Of course, with it being new we knew we hadn't seen it. I'm so glad we chose it. We didn't know any of the actors but they we fantastic. I loved the way they played off each other. The 2 main characters -Omar Sy & Laurent LaFitte- had great on scene chemistry. I loved the action comedy mixture of this movie. It wasn't until 3/4's of the way through that I became aware of the prequel. Who knew? LOL Obviously a lot of people. So we plan to watch the prequel tomorrow night.

Okay ish. but definitely less funny compared to the original.
imseeg7 June 2022
Leave it to the French to make a nice comedy, with lots of jokes about taboos, like racism and sexism and several dirty jokes.

Any bad? The original movie was more serious and therefore the comedy effect was stronger, this sequel is a bit more silly and lasting too long. 2 hours is really stretching it for a comedy, I was getting bored the last half hour...

The good: good actor's chemistry between 2 brilliant French comedy actors. Enough good tongue in cheek jokes to not get bored.

The story; 2 cops (1 white, 1 black) want to nail a racist mayor who is suspected of dealing drugs.

Hi politics Low fun
linobox16 May 2022
If it had been just EVIL PEOPLE TAKE OVER THE WORLD it could have worked better but the whole wokeism takes the little fun off. Too much identity polítics statements to laugh about while underlying a France that is plagued by wh1te rac1st fac1st naz1s that can't waste an opportunity to insult anyone different they come across with. Maybe that's why France has been one of the major immigrant receiving countrys of Europe since WW2. French people have been notoriously tolerant but now it turns out the only good french people are those immigrants. Wth!?

Action scenes are chopped to be so "speedy" they loose proportion and joy.

Some scenes are funny but predictable when put to the background.
