Heartwarming story
bump-1858911 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This is the heartwarming story of a family. A girl buys a pocket of cigarettes because her father asks her to buy it. However, her mother scolds her severely and takes away the cigarettes from her. The girl is worried about her father, so she tries to get cigarettes. This story expresses the emotional turmoil of a little girl, and how she overcomes this turmoil and grows by her own efforts. I was moved by the acting of a child actress, because she plays the girl who loves her father and mother naturally. Not only the little girl but also her mother loves her father, but they are in conflict about cigarettes. I think that it's really difficult what we should give priority to. It's sad that they can't understand each other though they care for the father. I like the last scene because the faces of the family shows happiness.

The great adventure of one little girl!
velianne-872049 July 2018
The short film tells the story of a young Japanese girl whose father is gravely sick and cannot come out of bed. For this reason, he gives money to his daughter in order for her to go and buy him packs of cigarettes. But the girl's mother refuses this scheme and checks every time her daughter's bag for new packs, removing them and scolding her. Eventually, under her father's insistence, the daughter waits for her mother to leave and goes out on a mission to buy a new pack for her father.

The Errand was quite an enjoyable short film for me. I appreciated first of all the originality of the story. Indeed, what struck me is the fact that this story, where a little girl is allowed to buy packs of cigarettes just at a vending machine, would never have been possible to take place in my own country. In that way, the very first scene actually shocked me, before I understood for whom she was actually buying them. What I also really enjoyed is that we really feel for the little girl. For example, when she fails continuously to get a pack, I felt really sad for her thinking back on the reason why she was doing this to begin with, to make her father happy, even if she perfectly knows that it is not helping his health at all. Finally, I also like the "journey" aspect of the little girl's quest for a pack. She travels her neighborhood, meets various people and faces obstacles. Even if it might be just a small scaled journey, for such a young girl like her it is probably the biggest she's ever had to go on to.

The Pure Heart
A girl's father has a bad cough and is sick in bed because of his serious illness. However, he can't stop smoking. Therefore, he asks his little daughter to buy cigarettes.

This is a Japanese short movie. Each of the cast plays the role very naturally. Especially, I love the little girl's acting. She is very charming. I can sympathize with the scene, where the girl can't turn her father's down even though she knows that her father is telling her a lie. I believe she never wants father's death because of the cigarette. She will just want to believe her father because she loves her father with pure feelings.

This story shows me that everyone has the pure heart. I recommend this film because it is very moving that only the little girl can change her father and the family becomes happy at the end.

A Wonderful Little Actress
AdamHawkes12 July 2013
A little girl has been buying a pack of cigarettes though she is scolded by her mother. What is her purpose in doing that? Actually, her family has a serious thing. This film is a story about a little girl who loves her family with a mental conflict in her mind.

The leading role, who I think is a girl about 8-years-old, is very good. She is a wonderful little actress. The role requires an ability to represent several emotions such as gladness, sadness, anger and confusion, but the girl performs very well. It is a pity that I have not known such a great performer until now.

In addition to this, this film has some critical messages or people around the world, such as what is really important, what we should do for someone who we love and what real family is like. Each of these is worth thinking of, therefore I'd like you to watch this film and think over them. Doing so also makes your life better than ever, I think.

This film is one of the best films for me, because not only are the actress and actor great but what it shows me is profound. It is a chance to reconsider what is significant for family to watch this film. This film might give you an answer to it.

Great film

An amazing short film with a good life lesson and moral.

A young girl is on a mission to purchase her sick father cigarettes. She goes through many lengths to find just one cigarette for her father despite the world going against her.

I really enjoyed this short film. All of the characters were amazing as well. I particularly liked the moral and life lesson of the story. The little girl loves her father so much she goes trough a lot of trouble to find him a cigarette. But sometimes, in order to help your love ones you must do what's really best for them. I think this is a good life lesson and moral that makes this film so amazing.

wonderful movie

Warning: Spoilers
"Otousan no tabako" is a Japanese short movie made in 2007.

This story begins with a little girl named Sarah trying to buy cigarettes. She always wants to buy cigarettes. But she and her mother both know that it is bad for her health. Her mother scolds Sarah severely for buying cigarettes. Why should she buy it, it is for her sick father.

I like this movie. But it was a little difficult for me. Sarah knows that she should not buy cigarettes for her father who is not well. So she has two mixed feelings for her father. To me, it is a very difficult choice for a young girl to make. When she finally brings home a cigarette, her father coughs and says that cigarettes is no longer nneeded The scene then switches to a picture book reading scene. The scene where she and her mother are smiling and reading next to the bed is very funny, but I could associate it with the fact that the father is dead. This scene makes me feel a little sad. However, I feel that it is a wonderful movie that makes me think about many things.

A heart-warming story
betoexko19 July 2013
This story is a heart-warming story overall. One day a primary schoolgirl bought a cigarette for her father but her mother found it and she confiscated it, because he is getting sick and is unable to work. However the girl was asked by the father again. She tried to go to a vending machine, but a new problem arises….

I like this movie's music because it makes me feel at home and I like this story very much because we cannot imagine the ending so I can watch to the very end enthusiastically. I think the girl's character is so nice because she says anything clearly, she is sticking it out and she is devoted to her family. In addition, I like the actress's performance. Especially, the kicking a vending machine scene.

I think this movie's conclusion is a happy ending as for her because her father was back to normal, her mother recovered her smiling face and her family understood each other. This movie is so good. That's why I recommend it to you.

Otousan no tabako
skcn181817 July 2014
This film is about a girl whose father is dying. She is always asked to buy tabako by him. Although she knows that it is not good for his health to have a smoke, she would not turn down his request. Though her errand, she meets many people and her feeling is changed.

When I saw it, I wondered why a little girl bought tabako on the way home. When she came back home, I could understand that she bought it not or herself but for her father. This construction is interesting because the audience has some questions and finds answers for them through watching films. Because of good construction like that, the audience enjoys films without getting tired.

Being innocent can kill someone
nobaryuta5 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This short film Otosan no Tabaco starts with an unexpected scene. At the very beginning, the main character, a little girl, buys cigarettes from a vending machine because of her father's request. When she comes home, her mother finds the cigarettes in her bag and scolds her about buying tobacco. After her mother leaves home, she apologizes to her father about his request. He asks her to go no one last errand to buy cigarettes, and she accepts and leaves.

The theme of this film is that being innocent can damage or kill someone. In this film, a girl tries to help her father by buying cigarettes. However, in fact, smoking is harmful, and the girl does not know this fact. This is the biggest irony and theme of this short film.

Family love
sknrk-478899 December 2023
"Otousan no tabako" is a drama movie about an elementary school girl and the adults around her. On her way home from school, the girl goes to a vending machine without telling her friends or her mother. It is the vending machine that sells cigarettes. The story is very gripping, and makes you ask questions such as, "Why is she going to buy cigarettes?" and "Whose cigarettes are they?" The main character seems to have a pure and kind personality, and I feel warmth in her acting. While this story has some dark and sad parts, it also has some heart-warming parts, like the one at the end where the family of three are reading a picture book about a big turnip. As the story progresses, the elementary school girl meets high school girls, office ladies, and thugs, and I think it's interesting to watch the story while thinking about what kind of keys these characters hold. This is a great short film worth watching.

Warning: Spoilers
Otousan no tabako is an amazing short film about a little girl trying to buy a cigarette for a sick father. The father often gives money to her daughter and let her buy a cigarette for him. One day mother detects that she is often buying a cigarette and gets it away from her telling that cigarette is bad for health and makes people die. However, her father asks to buy again and again, so she tries to get it somehow again and again even though she knows that cigarette is bad for health. One day her father quit asking and gives up. The reason why he suddenly gives up having cigarette was not clearly depicted, I was a little bit surprised. Overall, I liked it except for its title, because te title tells everything.

Warning: Spoilers
A little girl buys a pack of cigarettes for her father who has an illness and can't buy it himself. I don't know whether she should stops to do that or not. Because if she neglects his desire, he will lose his power for living. One day an accident occurs, so she can't buy it for him and she is busily engaged in collecting cigarettes. The sequence is very unusual but her efforts makes me feel painful.

As a whole, this movie was dark and mysterious, but I considered a lot of things after I watched it. For example, if my family catch a disease and there is no way to recover, I will agonize over whether I try to prolong their lives.

I can't understand the end of the movie. It can be interpreted in various ways. I would like to know everyone's interpretations.

This movie mirrors adult's through child's eyes.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie shows a conflict inside a little girl, and mirrors adults around her through child's eyes. She can't refuse her father's request, going to buy a cigarette for him, even if she knows it may kill him. She goes on an errand, but people think her strange because such a little girl is craving a cigarette. Usually we think from an adult's point of view, such as "children are imperfect," "we should teach and lead to make their future better." However these thoughts and acts of adults sometimes mix up a child. This film shows such a situation, so we feel such frustration. However, I could not understand this movie, especially at the end. Why does the father change his mind during her errand?

A little girl wants a cigarette for her father. But when she brings a cigarette, she is always scolded by her mother, because he is lung cancer. However he wants a cigarette hardly, so she goes to buy it again as she loves him.

This is a Japanese short movie that is about affection between parents and children. I moved this film. The little girl does not know that the cigarettes connect to his death. She wants her father to be well and wants to do something for him. So she only grants his wish. Her pure heart makes me moved.

What is message of this film? This movie let me think about the effects of cigarette will bring. A schoolgirl's phrase tells everything. I can feel this video reality, thanks to the ordinary actors.

heartwarming

'Otosan no Tabako' is a story about family love. This movie was made in 2007. In this story, an elementary school girl tries to buy tobacco even though she is too young for it. It means she buys it for others, but her mother scolds her for it. The girl can't stop buying it for a special reason. One time, she tries to buy it, but she fails because of vending machine trouble. However, she never gives up trying to buy it. Other than her mother, some characters see her buying it. For example, a high school girl meets her by accident and is told: "You'll die if you smoke." When the girl fails to buy cigarettes because of the machine's trouble, a man tells her off and does not return her money. To sum up, I suppose this movie describes an innocent love for family by the consistent action to buy tobacco. In my opinion, I think this movie is worth watching if you feel like enjoying a heartwarming story.

Family story
naotabe13 December 2023
'The Errand' is a family story. It was produced in 2007. An elementary school girl buys cigarettes for her father, but her mother is angry with her because smoking has a lot of negative effects. The girl goes to be with her father who is dying of an illness, presumably cancer. The father asks the girl to buy cigarettes for him. The story is about her going to buy cigarettes for her father. I found this short film very thought-provoking. The girl knows the negative effects of giving cigarettes to her father who is weak. However, I believe that the girl's desire to fulfill her beloved father's wish is very complicated. I also liked the child actor who represented this emotion well. I could understand her feelings through her natural acting. This is why I was drawn into this film. Also, the father looked really in pain and it was very vexing to watch. I thought this short film should be seen by anyone who has a family member who smokes and is in trouble. I thought it would inspire them to stop smoking.

She just wants to help his father
yasumaru-3294812 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Otousanno Tabako is a good short film about family love. The main character is a young girl who is an elementary school student. She buys cigarettes for her father who sleeps at home every day because he has a serious disease by smoking. He asks his daughter to buy cigarettes but keeps it secret from his wife. Though I wondered why the mother does not scold the father for letting his daughter buy cigarettes, I was impressed with the decision that the father makes for his family in the end. I was also impressed with the act of the girl when she cries seeing his father cough badly. I feel there are two reasons why she cries. The one is that she fears the death of her father. The other is that she feels that she kills him because she buys cigarettes for him knowing it has a bad effect on his body. That is why she ignores the high school girl's question in the park.

Amazing expression
yk-883 July 2013
A young girl named Sara always wants to buy tobacco. What for? She and her mother think it's bad for health, then the mother is trying to stop Sara buying it. Why does she have to buy it? Whose errand is she carrying out? After you watch it, you will find the answer.

For me, it's hard to explain the emotion. I was moved, but sad. The thing I like best is the acting of the young girl. She looks happy when she is talking to her friends, but when she is scolded by her mother, she looks very shocked and sad. The expression was amazing. In contrast, I thought the last part is very deep and complicated. It was a little difficult for me to guess what is going to happen.

On the whole, I don't know why and I cannot say the reason why, but it was moving. It made me want to watch the continuation!

It is an impressive movie.
little-greenmen16 July 2013
This movie is a Japanese movie. The daughter often goes to buy cigarettes for her father, since her father has illness and he cannot to go to buy it. He had been told to stop smoking cigarette from his doctor though he asks his daughter to buy cigarettes. Her mother scolds her for buying the cigarette, but the daughter tries to take the cigarette to her father. Can she get and take cigarettes to her father?

I like this little girl. She does her best for her father, and this attitude is very lovable. I think that she really loves her father, so she wants to buy it by a lot of ways. Also, I like the high school student girl too. High school students are prohibited from smoking by law, but her stately behavior is so cool.

I wondered that her father's illness is very severe when the daughter came home, but he seemed fine in the next scene.

There was a small point what it is difficult to understand like above. Even so, it is impressive film.

smoking is not good for us
goalkeeper-yuta2 September 2013
The girl is often buy cigarette despite her mother talked children not to buy cigarette. Because her father who is an illness asked her to buy cigarette. The girl knows that cigarette is not good for her father's health, however he appeal to get cigarette. I want to tell him that do not smoke cigarette and cherish your life. His children is very obedience. She must be hard to buy it. She may recognize that her father live no longer. Usually every father is never give up their life, however this case is different. I think he is not enough to make effort. If I were his children, I tell him that your existence is very important for me thus please cure your illness. Children's words is powerful for their parents. Nothing is more important than life. This movie is very serious topic so next time I see this movie, I watch it with my parents, brother, then talk about life.

Pure story
arkts3110 February 2014
This movie shows the dilemma of a little girl.

Her father, who is in bed because of a disease, asks her to buy cigarettes for him, but her mother tells her not to. The tiny girl is so pure that she is troubled with the conflicting requirement. However she tries to do her best to get cigarettes.

Children always do their best and that makes me feel guilty about my laziness.

The most impressive scene is that the girl reads a textbook aloud surrounded by her parents. It reminds me of my childhood. I think this movie gives you a kind of nostalgic feeling.

Warning: Spoilers
A little girl, on her way home from elementary school, stands in front of a vending machine. She looks around and puts money into it. Surprisingly, what she buys is a pack of cigarettes. As soon as she arrives at her house, her mother tells her to show the contents of her backpack. Although she is reluctant to show it, at last, her mother finds cigarettes in her backpack. Her mother gets angry because this is not the first time that she buys them. Why does she go on buying them?

I think the reason why the girl buys cigarettes is very impressive. In fact, she seems not to want to buy them. however, because of the complicated reason, she decides to buy new cigarettes. Although this movie is a little cruel and makes me sad, I like this movie because it tells me fear of cigarettes and the value of family.

what is human right?
ogiharachika25 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In this film, the main characters were a girl and her father. He passed her money and forced her to buy cigarettes for himself. We have to think why people in higher rank try to control/use others in lower rank, instead of help each other. The girl is one person and she must have her right. No one can infringe on her right. However, she likes her father, so that she doesn't have the courage to refuse him, which makes the situation complicating. The same case fits into other things. For example, bullying in the school. It is difficult for a student who gets bullied to refuse the person who are teasing him. He should have a courage to refuse but that is not so easy and he needs some support from others: friends, family, and teachers. This film caused me to think seriously about what is love and what is human right.

This movie is that a girl searches for a cigarette to her sickly father. But her mother never let her get it. She tries many times.

I like the attitude of the girl to work hard . it is very cute and makes me cheer her. The scene of Japan reminds me of my childhood in Niigata. The towns in this film are almost similar to my birth place, so I like them.

I do not like the scene that a high school girl smokes. I actually do not like cigarettes because they cause only bad things.

I think the movie teaches us the bond between children and parents. Actually I like this kind of films, so I was moved. This movie also reminds me of my childhood and connection between me and my parents. This movie will probably make you feel happy !
