Women's issues deserves a better story

Making jokes and laughing about issues that women face is one extreme, portraying them to be bizarre and freakish is at the other end of the spectrum. Star focuses' the latter.

The movie gets off to a cracking start, with the story introducing us to the main character of Roy (played by Joju George) and his family. They seem to be living a comfortable life and have all the luxuries that one could hope for. Roy's wife Ardra (Sheelu Abraham) is shown to be moody, overly possessive about her husband and very distant from her own children. She smile's to her self, talk's to herself and stand's on the roof of the house for hours on end looking up at the sky. She is meant to freak you out and the director is not subtle about that all. The first half of the movie certainly gives out a "Manichitrathazhu" vibe.

The second half of the movie is a snooze fest, with Ardra continuing to unnerve everyone with her antics. There are plenty of inconsequential scenes and deliberate attempts from the storyteller to divert the audience's attention from the very much underwhelming reveal at the end.

You will find yourself scratching your head over pointless sub-plots in the movie like Ardra, a Hindu marrying Roy, a Christian. It seemed the director did not want you to forget this since it was mentioned multiple times in the movie. Even though the movie seems to focus on an issue that women go through in their later years, you end up sympathising with the male character Roy. I'm sure it would not be easy for a man to see his wife being so distant with their children, talking to her-self in front of their children and just freaking them out in general.

P. S.: Prithviraj fans, you will be disappointed.

Very important subject but..

The subject of the story is very important, especially from a women's health perspective. But the script is contrived to make us believe its about some supernatural phenomenon rather than a medical issue. Throughout the film there is an attempt to keep the viewer thinking its ghostly and super natural powers that are affecting the heroine. Lots of unnecessary rituals are shown in detail but one doesn't really know what's happening. Menopause is definitely an important aspect of woman's health and should be addressed in popular culture like cinema but not in this manner I feel.

Utter waste

A complete waste of time. A movie taken to just boost the wife of the producer. Poor casting, poor editing, poor costumes and make-up...very poor story and direction.

Disgrace to Malayalam movies

At this time, Malayalam movies are getting widely accepted by all over india in OTTs , this one is a disgrace.

Such an amateur making is its biggest drawback. The acting skills of lead actress is laughable, she is also producers wife.

It is trying to tell one progressive message , but it seems quite forced. Looks the makers just wanted to cash the political correctness trend than having any serious commitment to it.

Joju acts well as always, most other actors have also done well. Art and some of cinematography in second half looks good.

I am starting to doubt IMDB rating , this one show a 7.5 at this time.

Boring

Really boring movie with little known heroine. Average movie. Better to avoid. Not relevant this time. Could have been done more realistically. Very slow moving type movie.

Star is a Disaster

I really don't know how can someone make a movie like this... that too from a director who did an outstanding.movie like paippin chuvattile pranayam.

Just a simple subject that can be youtubed or googled.. mix it with some worst illogical myths.. im sure even the director got confused some times.

Initially thought its a horror.. then thought its a thriller.. then thought its a myth.. and ends-up with something else.

Worst portrait of a serious subject

Poor direction and story line. Wasted Joju and Prithviraj, disappointed to see the resources wasted for apparently no reason. Many misleading subplots leading to dead ends. Background tracks sounds awful in most of the scenes.

Starting like anantha badram,ends like nine

It's better not to watch this movie with a lot of expectations. I think, A short film that was supposed to end in 15 minutes was inflated, exaggerated and made to look like something big and finally seemed trivial.

Targetting a specific religion again or a gain

The message is good and important, but does that really had to do anything with a specific religion. I am still trying to understand why in the God's name the message had to be delivered. If you wanted to make the movie suspicious you still could have done it without bringing the rituals and sentiments of a specific religion. Also, you had the choice to clarify the sub plot(related to granny) in a simpler way, the sub plot does not have to do anything with main plot.

Joju George is of another religion in the movie and the wife belongs to a different one. When his wife did not seem well, as a viewer i am trying to understand that why he went to wife's mother expecting she could cure his wife and did not go to a specialist. That would have been the case for a starter.

Why I am going to give less stars is because that I was going clueless at a time not because the theme is suspense but because why the message and the story is not adding up. Not happy the way it was delivered.

People should watch the movie for message and go blind if the scenes are hurtful to them. Again, the sub plot is very confusing for me.

Talent wasted on a pathetic storyline.

This is not a horror/thriller movie. Don't watch it If you are here for those genres. The "deliberate deception" approach taken by the writer makes the movie quite a frustrating experience in the end. The topic in the climax is an important one but for a movie buff it is entirely anticlimactic. Talent like Joju's is utterly wasted on this movie. Prithviraj only has a 2-minute cameo, don't be fooled by his face in the poster. The art department has done a good job. Good cinematography and music. But in retrospect, that too is wasted in this movie. I'd strongly recommend skipping this movie.

At the beginning, it may lead us to think that its all about paranormal. But infact as a woman, it was such a helpful information to me. Because, it enlighten me abt those attitudes behavioural issues, the reason behind my extreme emotional state for no reasons which is caused by hormonal imbalance. It may be helpful to all the women out there who is facing all such problems. Thanks to the whole cast n crews.

First they start with a star which you realise had no reason.

2) A family sees the women in the house acting strangely but no one bothers to take her to a doc.

3) instead they goto her native. Which is full of women, but they don't understand she is suffering from menopause.

4) The main actress is supposed to have mood swings, but only ends up having 1 mood(sadness) throughout the movie.

Did nobody in the team watch the movie.

The actress is worst. I am not sure how the cast works. The main focus of the movie made the worst. Really felt bad wasting time watching the movie.

Now a days Malayalam movies thrive by making a mockery of Hindu cultures and beliefs. We say Kerala is a progressive state but the mentality is pathetic. Enjoying screen time by bringing down any religion is incorrect. Seems to me the movie is running on an agenda. Hindu girl marrying a Christian is unwarantted in the story of a menopause lady. Unfortunately Prithvi Raj belives in making only such movies. Shame Old days movies ran on good stories and not on agendas.

Concept good but waste execution

Movie was going well in the beginning, but when the climax was revealed I realised I've wasted 2 hours of life. To show hindu culture and traditions in a bad way is the main agenda of the movie. The plot is of a widely misunderstood subject, which could have been better showcased to the viewers other than what is done here in the movie.

The message is good but, the story is a deliberate non-realistic plot targeted to create religious bias. No customs shown in the movie are real. The ancestral house, the set up of numerous female servants and their dressing are the real superstition in this era. Thanks to the partnership of Domin (director) and Abraham Mathew (producer) for your sincere efforts to cause religious disputes through misinformation.

A much relevant subject treated properly

A female centric story line much relevant in todays world. The script and direction and pretty good .

Little bit of flaws in the narrative but it doesn't take away anything from the movie Joju and sheelu steal the limelight.

A good watch.

Boring and Forcefully Artificial

The film is boring from begining, as usual this movie has a Doctor who comes in the Climax to explain what exactly happend to the female lead. Early menopause is the issue and i too agree that it will affect women's life during that stage. But the symptoms shown in the movie has nothing much to do with Menopause, The makers has dragged and made it more artificial to make viewers confuse that its something supernatural till the end in which they have failed high time.

Death of a star, religious beliefs (that only exist on directors mind, not for real), hormonal crisis of women, inter caste marriage - how can they all connect. Don't even attempt. Gone are the days of classical Malayalam cinemas and the story telling. Most movies show Christian and Muslim cast and crew that show their religion in good light and on the other hand makes a mockery of the majority Hindus who these days are becoming spineless in the name of tolerance. With lead characters being Christians this movie has been made to insult Hindus.

A very disappointing ending and definitely not worth the watch... The storyline is completely misleading. They chucked in a well known actor just for views although he only got a few minutes screen time. Overall not impressed.

A boring movie with a clear propoganda in disguise of carrying a social message. Makes you wonder why everyone waste so much time, money and energy after all. Do yourself a favor, don't waste your time.
