I'm sold on this series 3 episodes in
TheBlackSwordsmann3 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When I found out WIT was the studio producing this series I had to check it out. Initially I was hesitant at first just looking at the cover and description, but I immediately got hooked in the first episode. Most new animes I watch, I get distracted very easily and feel like I've seen it all but this one is different. Something about this series drew me in and kept me hooked on the TV. Only 3 episodes in but it has already come out the gate very strong with great animation as expected with WIT studios, comedy, a sense of mystery, darkness and incredible fight scenes. The series establishes character arcs and back stories immediately for a lot of different characters and I'm already feeling connected with them.

The main character is a dwarf sized kid named Bojji. He's pure hearted, can't hear or speak words at all, just noises, but he can understand people somehow, I assume by reading their lips but some characters he speaks to don't have lips, so I'm not certain on that yet. He seems like a hopeless kid who is set to become the next king after his ill father passes and names him as his replacement. Kings in this series seem to represent the strength of a territory and are bred to be great fighters. Unfortunately, his step mother voids the kings will and his shady younger brother who has no disabilities takes the reign instead and immediately tries to purge people. This was really sad because Bojji understood what was happening and with his disabilities he couldn't say anything. There are alot of sad scenes involving Bojji, people making fun of him thinking he can't understand what they're saying about him but In reality he understands everything and is aware of himself and his disabilities but plays it off with a very positive and happy spirit.

I didn't know what Bojji was going to be like as a protagonist and based on how people were making fun of him and calling him weak and unable to carry even a small sword, I didn't think he'd be able to do much. Boy was I wrong, he challenges his brother in a sparring match with wooden swords and I thought he was going to get destroyed. But he shows clearly that although he doesn't have strength, he has incredible defense, awareness, quickness, and counter attacking abilities when fighting. Very Floyd Mayweather-ish. He outclasses his brother and makes him look foolish and the guards in the castle start to criticize him unfairly for not fighting fair and not fighting aggressively and recklessly like his brother was, therefore they saw him as the loser and one of the guards tells him to stand still and fight like "a real king" and his brother immediately bashes him to near death. His brother walks off very smug and overly confident that he actually won.

I won't go into any more spoilers but all I can say is that this series has incredible potential and it's totally different from anything I've ever watched.

so underrated, one of the best of the year
tanguy-533357 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Man... this anime is so good, Ôsama Ranking is about Bojji a prince that wants to be a king but he's can't hear can't talk also lacks strength, so everything's going against him and he's on his quest to improve himself.

From the art style this anime may look like a kid show but trust me it's more complex than you would think, of course, it's about a king and kingdom so there's some politics involved, and this show also has more than a few violent scenes, the story gets very real sometimes.

Bojji the protagonist is so well written he may look like a typical nice cry a lot cutesy protagonist but the anime did a good job not hitting you too much with these archetypes so a lot of time he's just come out really natural and sweet, and he's not stupid or dense either he's smart and have a talent, but the show did a great job at keeping him an underdog.

And a lot of characters have surprisingly complex characters, like his side character Kage I also thought would be your typical "funny" useless sidekick but no he's really well written and very useful, the show did a good job fleshing out other characters too, so they're all very interesting unique and usually have some debt.

And the world is really great, this world seems to have interesting and deep lore, unexpected things happen a lot that will keep you guessing.

Other than that the animation is of course fantastic studio WIT working their heart out on this, the soundtrack is good, overall just a really nice looking show, nothing to complain.

In the end, this is a very maturing show but is also a very fun light heart show that mix together incredibly well, character is unique and have an unexpected debt to it, right now I'm only at episode 7 but I can't wait to keep watching more of it and I will keep updating the review if my opinion ever change.

Highly recommended 9/10(for now) and thanks for reading!

Outstanding Anime
muraliavarma28 January 2022
When my wife insisted that she wanted to watch this show with me, I was very skeptical and ready to dismiss it. All it took was 2 episodes and we were hooked beyond anything and bawling our eyes out.

We all love an underdog story, and we knew this was going to be one. But the reason this story elevates above others is its ability to evoke powerful emotions, its unpredictability and its deep character development. There is not a single good or bad character. Every character has their own motivation behind their action. That to me is the mark of great writing.

And little Bojji... I just smile when I see him and his partner in crime on screen. I am reminded that so many people treat all "disabled" people as helpless. They either show pity or just condescend them. Treat them as regular humans and maybe that will bring out the best in them.

Apart from that, there are a lot of references to Game of Thrones and many fairy tales that the writers have snuck into the show in many humorous ways. Overall, this is a very very solid anime and I can't wait to see how it ends!

When you first see the poster, it seems like another childish/crybaby anime, but dammnnn, i was so much hooked to this anime within the 10 minutes of its starting. I just can't wait to see the entire story.

Loved the vibe, the story, the dialogue and the draw. Great work by everyone and the story itself is just very good that you will have a mix of feelings in every second of the anime.

Very very beautiful anime, with lots of elements and dimensions in characters, and best of all is how realistic the story feels...hats of to its creators and author...

Great story
blackmamba9997128 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This has turned into something quite interesting. Don't let the looks fool you. It is a dark anime in some respects. But also lighthearted in other ways. Boji, a deaf mute soon to be king becomes the brunt of people's troubles. Although boji looks weak, he is rather well educated in many other ways.

One of which, is sword play. Who in all respects, defeated his younger tyrannical brother Daida using the gentleman's approach by tapping spots on his body to signify a clean hit or mortal wound. Daida in his rage thinks it's cowardly and beat boji to a pulp. Thankfully his adoptive mother Hili healed his body when he was sleeping.

Among many of Boji's friends is an assassin who crawls across the ground and uses the shadows to keep hidden, But the assassin's best trait is when night falls only to become unbeatable. Yet through many trials and tribulations, Boji learns the hard way on what it means to be a king.

Aside from the daily proclivities of Boji's life, and during his father's last moments Boji was named king by his own father, but the appointment was capitulated by Hili. Not because of his inept ability, but more so because Boji's mother loves him deeply and does not want him to take such a burden on by himself.

Daida was then appointed in his place. This gave Boji a new lease on life and set out on a journey on behalf of his mother's wishes so he could gain more knowledge and experience. I have to say the story line is wonderful. Set in arthruian times, against a background of ill characters who want nothing more than topple the kingdom.

The music is topnotch, as are the voice actors. Great action sequences, with dark tones of betrayal, disloyalty, political strife, and a very mean king. He almost reflects king joffre in the game of thrones. But we'll see just how far he will go to prevent Boji from ever becoming king. Lots of emotional content, as well as the inevitable light at the end of the tunnel. Ten out of ten stars for this one.

Osama ranking may look simple in nature but the story more than makes up for its simplistic style of drawn sequences. Highly recommended.

story loses momentum and goes downhill in the second half
lichtgruen8 April 2022
The hero of the story is handicapped and as a result the plot at times seems rather artificial and improbable. Nonetheless, I really liked the anime during the first few episodes and found it entertaining and sometimes heartwarming. But from about episode 11 everything boils down to a big fight that pushes the other plot elements into the background. The fights themselves seem strange - I'm generally not a fan of fights, but there are some anime where I find the fights exciting and entertaining. The fighting in this anime lacks that certain something - it just makes me bored. I stopped at the beginning of episode 14 because the anime didn't arouse any more emotions in me and I lost all interest in it.

What is that ending
Movi3DO25 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ousama Bojji

The first half of this anime was fun and heartwarming. Bojji is very cute, and I wanted to see his journey to overcome his challenges. Also, there's a main mystery plot that got me excited and more invested in the outcome.

The animation might throw some people off because it is simple and made the show leaning towards to kids. But I didn't mind it because of the story that built up.

However, the second half where everything went down was a major disappointment. The character decisions at the end were both surface-level and baffling. It's not often that I see an ending that threw things off this quickly.

Overall, it had enjoyments but ended in such a wrong note. 6-6.5/10.

Best anime
wgxtzf29 October 2021
It's everything you would want in an anime. Every episode peaks my interest unlike some new anime I have watched so far. It deserves the hype it's getting and I hope people will not ignore it because of how the animation looks. You will not waste your time watching this anime.

By the way Boji is my favorite character so far. He's cute and kind and I want to protect him so bad.

Well crafted story of Bojji. The animation is a masterpiece as its from The Wit Studio who made best anime Attack on Titan's first three seasons. Fluid animation.

The emotion is OMG, so good that made even me emotional. This is the best anime I have seen in 2021 and I can bet this shall only get better.

Even the English dub is good.

I gave this a try thinking it would be more of a kids show and on the boring side. I was wrong. This show is great and a lot of fun to watch. Great animation and so far (4 episodes in) the story is very captivating.

It's just really wholesome and wonderful in its uniqueness
rifyalmahardhika12 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first time I watched this anime because I found its clips popping up in my YouTube recommendations, I firstly ignored it but then I gave it a try because of one clip that showed a sparring fight between bojji and his brother, daida, and that part got me emotional.

Shortly, after I began with the first episode, I really found this anime interesting to me, and then the part that made me realize that this anime is into my liking and stole my heart was when in the second episode (which is crazy for the starting), the story got me in tears, Bojji who knew that he is weak tried to fight Daida with his own style of fighting, but at the end he must accept difference treatment that really didn't suit him and could put him in a death situation (by fighting like a true warrior that considered dodging a counter-attack as a pitiful movement and not a warrior's way), but as a man he accepted it and it got him really bad. Even after got injured, he never showed that he is a weakling by not showing himself crying in front of the others, but maann his courage to lift the sword even though he's badly injured just shows us that he won't stop trying, he doesn't hate himself or the others who treat him badly, it's just he realized that he wanted to give all his best even after he got defeated. I was so glad and proud too that there was Kage who stood in his side and gave him appreciation that others never did to Bojji.

And recently I saw an awful comment saying that watching this anime without any innovation or it's just because people felt pity to Bojji, dude.. Come on what makes Ousama Ranking unique is already innovative, people felt pity to bojji is a sign of sympathizing towards the protagonist in which it becomes a plus value for the story that can bring such an emotion to the audience. So please, watch it again from the beginning, it's clearly different from most of anime conflict that tend to be so boring imo, ousama ranking has developed its story not only to be emotional and sympathetic but also its plot from episode to episode is innovative, even me myself got excited at what this anime will guide us to, since there are many plot twists we can find in certain episodes. Stop babbling about the story, you just clearly don't like the art (cause it's unique and distinguished from other animes in this season)

Sorry for my bad English tho.

Overrated
alicekprof13 March 2022
Fine to watch when there is nothing else, but otherwise nothing special. Same old fillers, same old protagonists super good person/hero troops, "who looks weak bit actually strong", evil characters who look weak but else good, and vice versa, too much piano in the bushes trick, over the top emotional speaches etc. In other words meh.

I was also one of the people who refused to watch it because of the drawing thinking that it would be for children but I was so wrong. I hope this anime gets more attention so they would make season 2 or a movie.

First 11 episodes are a classic. Then they fired all animators?
justgoscha22 March 2022
Seriously the first 11 episodes are just great. Nice story, cool characters, great dynamic animation, beautiful background paintings, fast paced gripping story that makes You want more and more!

Then...something happens. The animation declines rapidly. If you can call it animation. It's more of a slide show in some episodes.

Also the directions is just bad and the composition of the shots. Did they switch directors and storyboard artists?

Backgrounds become boring and lame. The story stops all momentum and development for a couple of episodes. When there's any story happening than it's just people talking in static scenes.

I cannot explain what happened other than that they poured their heart and soul into the first 11 episodes. And also a lot of talent and money. Then a production company took over and cut down all the costs on creatives to milk the rest.

I hope it gets better.

It deserves better.

Writing is atrocious.
C0SSTY27 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first half of the anime was amazing, but later, when we were getting some answers to our questions, it slowly went into the gutters

The reason for this anime's plot existence, is a country, where every person is bad, robbed and then killed Miranjo's mom.

This entire scenario in the show is soooo unbelievably anserine, that it ruined the show for me.

Miranjo's people did a lot for this "bad" nation. They build houses, gave them stuff, educated them, taught them magic. There is no way those people would then still want to rob people. Yes, you would maybe find a few psychopaths, but not the whole damn city/country.

With their education and magic, they were probably earning very good money. There was literally no need/reason to rob/kill people, all their needs were met, there was probably even abundance. Not to mention that with education naturally arrives some sort of government, doesn't matter if it is democracy, monarchy, or dictatorship. With government, of course came institutions and law enforcement, which wouldn't let citizens do whatever they want.

They were written as evil characters, just for the sake of it, which is the laziest and stupidest way to do that.

It's weird that author/writer allows some people to change, like Daida, Miranjo, Bosse, blue shirt guy with metal hand, guy with the spear. On the other hand, they wrote that an entire country is a bunch of criminals who are not capable of change. Writer/author is either very racist, or should stop writing and go work in McDonald's.

Miranjo attacked the kingdom two times and because of her hundreds if not thousands of people are dead. What happens to her at the end? She is revived, she is forgiven, because she said sorry, and becomes queen of the kingdom in which most dead people are dead because of her. (I'm not joking, this is what happens.) What's the point of this story? Rewarding mass murderers? Actions have no consequences?

I'm definitely not going to watch season 2. There are a lot of other things I can watch with better writing.

I gave it three stars, because it has some good emotional scenes and likable main character.
