So... this is what it's like to have ADD?

I had been curious to know what it's like to not be able to pay attention to the movie before! This one nailed it!

Ruined by terrible acting and moronic characters
wilkinsonncl19 November 2020
Could have been fun. But ruined with no backstory to the evil toys. And the mother being annoying and stupid.

I thought I was dreaming

Warning: Spoilers
I happened on this during a bout of insomnia. I sometimes like really bad horror/scifi movies but this is another category. It was totally formulaic, with the typical, sulky, bored teenager eventually being the hero. The acting was atrocious, especially from Hannah who is strident, shrill, bossy, rude, and obnoxious. The two little kids were cute and weren't bad actors.

Since I tuned in a few minutes after this started, i had a hard time figuring out the family dynamics. At first I thought Rose was the mother of the little children, but that turned out not to be. Then I thought Hannah must have adopted them, since they are clearly not the same race as she, but oh, well.

The long singing sequence with the toys made me wonder about the target audience of this movie. It can't be children since there are elements of horror, but it's not something that appeals to most adults.

This is one of the worst movies I've seen in many a year, but it nearly reaches the "So bad it's good" category.

WHY !!!
sconewman20 November 2020
Don't believe the reviews. This film is unwatchable , i didn't care about any of the characters , the plot was weak and the effects made mary popping look like a CGI master class. The only entertainment was watching the total look of dismay on my wife's face as the toys start singing or flying. waste of time and money .

Not bad

It wasn't completely awful but it was definitely one of those cheesy horror movies. Wouldn't consider it a favorite but it was fun to watch

Hilarious 😂
yves-vanherreweghe1 November 2020
It was difficult to give it a score as this movie made me laugh so hard... For a comedy I would give it a 7, for a horror a 2. The acting, the storyline and the special effects are bad, but nevertheless I would recommend it as it is in a way enjoyable to watch. Especially the bee toy deserves an Oscar.

This film is NOT...
ems-4108520 November 2020
Not well acted Not well written Not well produced Not worth the money and for a horror movie is Not scary... I actually have come away wanting a bumblebee glow worm.

The only disturbing thing about this film is not only did we pay to RENT it, but we actually sat through the 1 hour and 29 minutes of it.

I'd expect better in 2020

Warning: Spoilers
Nothing about what was happening was answered. Why were the toys evil? Why did they come to life? Why did the dad think his friend who was being killed by a toy (he could have looked in the mirror) when taking him to the hospital was "breathing" by saying "yeah keep breathing, that's it"? Then there was really choppy animations and CGI. The toys were horrible and choppy. Yes they are "old toys" but come on, at least make it bearable. Even the scenes with the snowing were terrible. Sprinkling powdered sugar or flour would be a better effect and it would have been way cheaper. Poor budget choices

I've seen better shows from the 90s that can do better effects. This is 2020.

Is everyone HIGH?! This movie is AWESOME
Louis_Bacon7 May 2021
Creepy killer toys, Christmas horror, great acting, especially for a low budget effort and the same goes for the directing. It's written by Dana Gould, a passionate horror fan and an experienced writer. The dialogue may seem clunky in some parts and the storyline is (obviously) predictable, but it's still way more original than most Hollywood movies.

The stop-motion effects for the toys are GREAT, they're fascinating and creepy to watch. Very reminescent of the 80's, especially of the Full Moon movies like Puppet Master or Demonic Toys. The whole decor is also reminescent of old creepy "search and find" books of the 90's that I loved so much. Clearly nobody wants a doll with a taxidermized raccoon head, but it just works on the visual level and adds to the creepy campy fun.

It seems nobody knows how to enjoy good campy horror anymore. Shame on everyone who didn't like this movie. Clearly, you don't know how to have fun.

Loved it!
seamaiden-4296618 April 2021
Hubby and I loved it! We are adding it to our Christmas horror movie list. Love the vintage toys and the old stop animation action in the movie. What a treat so different! Whimsical horror. ❤ I read some of the reviews and saw some people didn't like it but I recommend watching it and making up your own mind.

Campy Fun
LigeiaCorpse6 January 2021
This movie is hilarious. Campy and low budget. Not sure if it was meant to be but it was fun to watch because I like campy B horror. If your idea of comedy is horror movies or you just love all horror movies period as I do then give it a try. You will at least have a laugh. If your not a fan of syfy channels horror you probably wont enjoy it . It reminded me a bit of the tv show "happy"

well...
ops-5253527 October 2020
This is a film thats hard to define allover. it is for sure a horror flick where the end section should have been the intro, and where the christmas carol(''helga nat'',a beautiful song though) in the end is sung in swedish in an all american movie, a weird choice if you ask me.

its a film made by a small brand, and it shows some signs of poverty, but it has also flare ups of great filmaking, which to choose though are difficult.

its a film with a lot of christmas feel, and glory good looking old toys that hides cruel forces within, a x-mas holiday spent at an old mansion that where built as an orpanage a long time ago, where the lost souls of deceased and lonely children lingers in the corners, and where havoc is made the more merry the story becomes. the gift opening seanse has some creepiness that might scare, but not the grumpy old man...

...because the story are interrupted by inconsistencies, the special effects and animated toys are of pre-gremlins quality, where the acting are so bland and stiff, and the editing are clumsy so even a housemaid would have done it better...

... and who the main target audience is for this film is a mouse in a maze maze that cant find the way out, because its to scary for the small one, too scary and cruel for a primetime watch for a good cristian x-mas get together round the tv-set, its far too clumsy and cheap for the seasoned horror lover, and quite frankly i think this will become an all time iconic x-mas turkey that will atain cult status in about 25 years when the new normal have struck us back centuries, but thats the opinion of a grumpy old man, its no more that a 5, and its given for a well done decorative and well done location design production.

I can't believe the acting and or directing. An hour and a half in to this movie and the best thing so far, the movie before it. The wife needs years of acting lessons. Sorry, but really bad all the way around

Weird stilted acting and pitiful special effects were the best part of this putrid movie. I could go on for pages about this garbage, but why bother? It stinks to high heaven.

Way Better Than the Reviews
bryanmartin-1975913 December 2020
We watched this as a family on the SyFy channel. Special effects were low budget so you just had to go with it. Overall it was enjoyable enough for us not to change the channel.

Very close to being the worst movie in the history of cinema
mistela6714 December 2020
I've watched hundreds of movies in my time. This was, by far, one of the worst. The acting was horrid. The story was dumb. It almost reached that magical level of being so bad, it was watchable. But, it took itself to serious for that. I will give it one star for locales and camera work. What a shame that money was invested in such bad movie, when there are untold numbers of talented young filmmakers out there who could have used this money for something good, but alas, will never get recognized because they don't know the right people.

Bee Afraid
nogodnomasters7 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
In the opening scene we see a woman deliver a chest full of toys that belonged to Jason who had died at the Saint Germaine's children clinic. And then something happens. Years later David (Dayo Ade ) and Hannah (Kyana Teresa) move in. They are house flippers. With them are three children and a nanny. They discover a chest of toys.

The toys are cursed and evil. They are not very subtle about it. The family battles for their lives, more easily than any Puppet Master film, I think. I have only seen four or five. It was a nice location and set up. The characters didn't appeal to me.

Guide: caught 1 F-word. No sex or nudity.

Good premise, nice creepy location, but the acting is just not up to par...
lathe-of-heaven6 November 2020
I guess that pretty much says it. Bummer too, because I really liked the premise, and I totally dig Evil Toys, but unfortunately for me anyway the performances just kept taking me out of the film. The nanny, in my lowly and wretched opinion is particularly bad. I mean BAD... The older girl and the children are okay. The parents aren't TOO bad, although the odd, clipped way the director has the mom speaking constantly gets a bit annoying.

I think that at least to me this is just a case where there was a good idea and even fairly decent writing, but the director just didn't seem to be able to draw out very realistic performances from the players. And, when you think about it, if you have a story based upon Evil Killer Toys, you REALLY need to be able to draw the audience into the story by means of the characters, not to mention the writing and direction.

So, that's it basically, kinda short and sweet. A shame though... I would have really wanted to like the movie, but for me personally, that is indeed one thing which can really kill it for me in a film, if the performances or characters just don't come across well enough to sell the story.

But, with that said, if your tastes maybe aren't quite as demanding in the acting department and you can get into the story, you might find something to like...

Nothing new to declare
madde_zombie2 November 2020
This movie had potential. But unfortunately it just goes safe and add absolutely nothing new. Old story without no fresh material or without a twist. Its so horrible acting and you can feel its all forced sentences and its just feels fake. The only thing I really appreciated was the old style of technic that was made for moving the toys, felt like a 1980s movie, which is much better than crappy CGI. As a swedish person I felt the most scary thing in this movie was the swedish Christmas song that was used. It gave me the chills, it was not suitable for this movie since it has nothing to do with Sweden.
