This was an easy movie to watch, and kept me entertained all the way through. The actress who played Claire was great, I hope to see her in more films. Overall the cast was good, often over the top funny. I really liked the nanny family too. Recommend if you are looking for something light but meaningful.

A cute, and quirky story
egiannelli19 July 2022
Solid overall work from the production team. This movie has many poignant and meaningful moments that make all of the characters delightful. The cuts and fade to blacks are sometimes a little abrupt and awkward, and some of the pauses between lines a little too long; however, if you are looking for a heartfelt emotional piece, you will find nothing but that in this work.

a Sweet Natured RomCom
baccaruda123 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this film. The characters are decent humans, trying to overcome their flaws in a world that doesn't care, with people who might make them strive for being even better. Lizzie Kehoe as Claire is a joy. Her work is imminently watchable. Thomas Vieljeux also does an excellent job of portraying a man who is a little lost, but still does his best, despite having to give up on his dreams. In spite of being a lower budget film, solid writing elevates the story as does most of the acting and direction. This one could have benefitted from a few trims in the editing room, but the genuine laughs more than make up for that. Furthermore, the ending reflected the realities of loving someone, even though things between men and women often become difficult. There were a few points in the film that surprised me (in a good way) with unexpected laughs and zigs where I thought the story would zag. I wish Prime had half ratings, because I'd rate this one at 3.5 stars. An overall enjoyable night at the movies!

Heartwarming
morralanza11 September 2022
I finally got a chance to see, Goodbye Petrushka a film written and directed by the talented Nicola Rose. Ms. Roses film is quirky and heartwarming it explores the growing pains of Claire, a film student, as she moves to Paris. Claire's Paris experience is not all she expected, the bureaucracy of officials and brattiness of the children in her care is too much for anyone to handle. Claire handle it with a sense of dignity and pride. In Paris, Claire is surrounded by a group of offbeat characters that appear superficial but are all facing their own challenges. I loved the relationship between Claire and her best friend Julia, Julia's sense of adventure perfectly complements Claire more cautious nature. It's beautiful to see how all of the caharachers grow.

Nicola Rose did an amazing job building the characters in a funny, eccentric completely human and relatable way. Well done, highly recommended.

No room for UFO's !
clementgermain-6786216 October 2022
I would like to see the "people" that gave this movie 9 or 10 stars, but my lawn is not big enough to park all these UFO's because these persons must be coming from another planet.

This "movie" summarised : it('s a Hallmark like romcom where there is more annoying music than dialogs. The type of music is mostly piano or violin and seems to be copied form early slapstick (Chaplin) movies of children programs like Tik Tak (Belgium). The music is constantly annoying the viewer.

The 2 main characters are childisch, foolish and annoy in less than 15 minutes (after the girlfriend is betting extremely idiotuic in the second part of the movier).

The story is typically woman wants man, man is with another, etc but is is stretched too much to a movie of 90 minutes.

Normally if a movie is made, actors have to be payed. In this case, it should be viewers who should be payed for their loss of time watching this annoying childish and amateuristicly acted movie.

PS The first time she sleeps with the guy, afterwards he turns on his side and starts sleeping. When he starts to snore, it is NOT synchronised with the movemenets of his chest ... So someone else snores in his place (one example ...)

Wannabe manic-depressive Amélie
vostf24 October 2022
When you have a very limited budget, you'd better concentrate on hiring a fine cast, and if you have a fine cast it then all comes down to your script and directing prowess.

It is difficult to like the characters here, they are either manic depressive or funny but unreliable loonies, and the story is not that engaging. A great main character could turn the most common of stories into a spellbinding fairy tale, or you could have a transparent hero beamed up by a fantastic story. But in this little indie flick you got the very lack of creative talent that is used as laughing stock in the beginning.

All in all this looks like an average cinema student project, except that this student had the right connections to make it happen and make the whole world able to see how off the mark he is.

Couldn't get past the first 10 minutes!
tocanepauli17 October 2022
Another film that seems to be loved by all but when you go to watch it you have to wonder if you are actually watching the same film!

It starts bad and.... Just didnt seem to get any better - the filming appeared to be done with a smartphone and the scenes looked like they were all shot in the same room!

Ultra confusing start which jumped from one scene to another without any seeming connection and, if the first scenes were the standard of the acting, I was outta there... Don't filmmakers realize that first impressions of a film ARE important and, if you can't grab your audience quickly, sorry they are gone.

Call me cynical but the people who gave this top marks must have acted in it.

Real, Raw, and Hilarious!
shelbyhalldenney27 July 2022
This movie made me laugh until I cried, but I also actually cried. It's the perfect rom-com, while somehow being an antithesis to the classic rom-com tropes. It's refreshing and relatable! The direction and the acting were both top-notch, and one of my favorite elements was the use of music! This is going to be one of those movies for cuddling up with my spouse and takeout on a weeknight!

Meh

It was okay nothing insanely amazing. It was a good watch but nothing that contains substance. It has somewhat of a story, but at times it's dull and boring.

Funny, engaging, well-acted coming of age film.....
gerhardie18 July 2022
This charming and very entertaining film follows the often painful path of pursuing a dream without letting it lead you astray. Claire, a young film student (the depictions of which with lunatic professor and socially misguided classmates are some of the funniest scenes in the film) drops out of school to travel to Paris pursue her passion for French culture, art, and love. Along the way she learns to adjust her sites as she bumps up against the pettiness, small-mindedness, and disillusion of others. The experience is often painful, but depicted honestly and with warm humor. Nicola Rose pulls compelling, nuanced performances from a talented young cast. She's a writer/director to definitely keep an eye on.

Amazing film and story we don't get to see often!
NoreenQuadir30 June 2022
It was refreshing to watch a film about messing up even in adulthood and how as adults, we can always learn and grow. The characters immediately hook you in and you get a strong sense of who they are right away while still getting moments of surprise that make them all the more interesting. The relationships between the characters were so well developed and it was interesting to see how each character affects the other and how their relationships evolve. The entire movie balanced both drama and humor that you can feel moved and amused at the same time. It is definitely a must see!

Funny movie grounded with real emotions
aik-4024410 August 2022
Funny movie grounded with real emotions. Beautiful score and animation as well. Really liked how this movie ended up showing what connecting with others through their art can look like, a topic I haven't seen explored much. Enjoyed the unexpected resolution too.

Adorable film that reminds me of being young in Paris
catrilliay15 August 2022
Nicola Rose has done a wonderful job of sharing the energy and vibrance of Paris through the eyes of an optimistic young American woman. Lizzie Kehoe is a joyful revelation as she tries to make her way through intriguing French family politics while trying to build a social life as well. It is not easy to translate these kinds of feelings into something so charming and cheerful. I'm very glad Nicola Rose found a way to do it!

Perfect for date night
ablago-0851811 August 2022
Great romantic comedy but not a "chick flick," sweet laughs, elements of Hitchcock and Stanley Donlen. Animation is simple but less is more here. Love the lady who played more than one stereotypical Frenchie. Pop some popcorn, grab a drink and enjoy.

Funny, romantic, quirky, confident
danbennett9 August 2022
It's rare to find an actually funny romantic comedy that isn't trying too hard. Nicola Rose's feature effortlessly merges genres and refuses to sit in one place too long. Goodbye, Petrushka has the bravery to satisfy traditional tastes while challenging the audience with smart, witty, unexpected happenings and dialogue. A cast - including the supporting cast - a director dreams of working with, and a sure, confident debut from the film's talented writer-director. More, please.

A "light" and funny movie about serious matters
lisamonde20 July 2022
A wonderful story of a girl who embraces her uniqueness, who is not afraid to "go for it", to take a chance, to go on an adventure, to figure her way out of various situations that life throws at her. Life is messy but if you have good friends by your side, if you believe in yourself and let your light shine - it can be pretty great! I loved one of the messages of the movie: be yourself and always put yourself first. Those who are worthy will come into your life and stay no matter what. Adventures never stop!

The talented cast worked so well together under the beautiful direction of Nicola Rose. The cinematography was very professional and everyone who worked on this movie created a piece that stands out and is unlike any other movie out there. I loved the mixture of cultures, accents, languages and characters. It was exciting to see the artistically created personal worlds of the main characters unfold in front of our eyes! Wishing this film huge success!

I loved every second of this movie. It's easy to watch, funny, real for the most part :-). A little exaggerated to point out important moments. I would say very well done. Would recommend to anyone for a great light evening watch, romantic or family.

An unexpected ballet
hopeprism1 August 2022
Feels like you are watching a ballet, with each scene being as captivating and charming as the next. The audience is taken on an adventure with Claire, our main protagonist of the film, who could be described as sweet, innocent, and a bit naive by some. Goodbye, Petrushka touches upon multiple facets of human emotion and through its characters, shows how life provides us with many lessons. A light-hearted film and a highly recommended watch.

Funny with profound undertones
jeanployhar23 July 2022
I absolutely loved this film! I watched it on Amazon Prime. It was funny with profound undertones. I especially enjoyed the chemistry between Claire and Julia. It was an uplifting film. I am still laughing about certain scenes, especially the part where Claire is sleeping on the floor! I found Goodbye, Petrushka to be so refreshing, and hope to see many more! Lizzie Kehoe is amazingly talented. Thank you all for sharing your talents!

Surprising, heartfelt, and funny!
hassardamazonmain19 July 2022
My favorite element is that "Goodbye, Petrushka" kept surprising me throughout - not in a jarring way, but in a "wow, I didn't expect that, but want to see where this goes" kind of way. Kehoe is a great heroine, really funny and sincere, and the writer/director gives the film a unique visual style and a nice edge to the comedic dialogue. A great watch!

The rare coming-of-age film that transcends cultures
mbelenky-7200418 July 2022
"Goodbye, Petrushka" was a real treat to see, especially in front of a sold out audience at Chelsea Cinepolis. Lots of fun, quirky, and offbeat humor that nicely complements the main character's story arc. The whole cast is tremendous and entertaining and rarely do you see classical music used so often and so effectively throughout a feature film. This is clearly done by a director who gets how people speak, act, while never losing sight of the past (i.e., puppets, figure skating, etc.). Not to mention it's an accurate, poignant depiction of characters discovering themselves and their desires in their 20s/30s.
