Warning: Spoilers
This show has the best intro ever. This was a great pilot episode. Peacemaker, played by John Cena, is already established as a likable character. He is crude, inappropriate but we see his struggles. Living in a cruise home, borderline abusive father, desire to connect with women, being broke, no one accepting him as a superhero. The contrast between his reception and his actual abilities is so stark that the audience can't help feel pity for this character and laugh with him.

I personally love these kinds of violent, hilarious superhero movies. They perfectly carried on the vibes from suicide squad which I very much appreciate. Solid pilot. Can't wait for more.

Great intro
joshculusbruh13 January 2022
This is a lot better than I expected, it's hilarious and actually has good action for a TV show, it actually still feels like The Suicide Squad. My only gripes is the eagle CGI is meh, some jokes don't land, and they try to make you care about peacemaker but it's not compelling enough yet for me to forget how he was basically a terrible person in The Suicide Squad; but maybe that will change in future episodes.

Kicking off with a blast

Warning: Spoilers
James Gunn delivers a fantastic premiere with a lot of soul. Peacemaker is just pure fun and the actors are excellent. Every minute is filled with great content and snappy humor that hits where it's supposed to.

The laughs are a big part, but Chris's introspective nature shines a lot. He gets a huge amount of depth and we can actually sympathize with him and get behind his motivations.

Camera work and music are top notch. The story is simple, but the execution is brilliant. Just look at that last fight scene. Also, Gunn doesn't shy away from getting into deeper topics throughout the episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Great first episode. Better than I thought it was going to be and I'm very happy about it. Aside from it being funny and heartfelt, the fight scene at the end may be the best filmed hand to hand fight of James Gunn's career.

They're very obviously setting up a character arc for Peacemaker to become more respectful and humble as well as learning to work better with others.

Peacemaker's dad's tech room and the metahuman adversary also adds another level of intrigue and makes you wonder how deeply it connects to other DC stuff. The things that the different helmets can do are amazing and the kill with one of them at the end was hilariously awesome.

My expectations were exceeded and I'm excited for more.

It is all downhill from here.

Through out time, history is littered with stories and tales of mankind's achievements. We have harnessed fire and the wheel. We have created great works of art and terrible acts of war. The magnitude of our achievements have spanned from the Colossus of Rhodes, the Library of Alexandria, and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon to modern technological miracles like putting a man on the moon and the Internet. As awe inspiring and soul touching as all of these events have been each and every one now pales in comparison to what has been revealed to the world today. I speak to everyone of the peak of human achievement, the ultimate fulfillment of that desire to satisfy the need deep inside us all, and finally an answer as to why this vast and wonderous Universe exists. Today we have reached the pinnacle of human existence that is the opening credits song and dance sequence from Peacemaker. There is no where left to go. There are no more mountains to climb. The rest of eternity is a slow decent down from this Everest and we all will shine out for the better having known that this exists.

Top quality production values. Pulls no punches.

To stay out of prison Peacemaker joins a newly set up team. After reconnecting with his political incorrect father and after some team bonding he faces a new threat head-on.

Writer/director James Gunn delivers an entertaining first episode (in the vein of his own Suicide Squad) which pulls no punches, even surpassing Ash vs Evil Dead, certainly in terms of nudity and foul language. It has a film feel and shot on location look which elevates the shenanigans. From the amusing 'previously on Peacemaker' recap and tone setting dance number opening credits, to the character group dynamics and the closing climatic fight, it's a whole new whirlwind of fun.

Debating more entertaining and unique than the first episodes of its Marvel counterparts. In keeping with the awkward character, it's off putting, rude and inappropriate, which isn't a bad thing. The humour is on point with some genuine laugh-out-loud moments. Muscle bound actor John Cena isn't shy to poke fun at himself or the character and appears to be having a blast making it, this comes through on screen. From the action to the wit and character moments, it's sharp, well staged, edited and executed. You can see the potential, there's plenty they can do with the character on his journey of betterment.

Perfectly cast, littered with dark comedy and entertaining cringeworthy moments, Gunn is able to thread in a bit of backstory with his dad and give the character a reason for why he is like he is. It's nicely paced, spending time with the secondary characters without moving on too fast to the next setup or gag.

Overall, it pulls no punches and takes no prisoners. The tone may take you left of field but Cena with Gunn's on the nose script delivers TV gold in this first episode, of course, that is, if tactless superhero vigilantes are your thing.

A honest 10/10, perfect pilot
Couchkik2013 January 2022
Well on the superhero front I think it's safe to say HBO MAX= 1, Disney Plus = 0 (save for Wandavision)

I'm amazed at the quality of this episode. Of course Jame Gunn is super talented but there is a low key aspect to the comedy and R rated elements that works perfectly, almost better than The Suicide Squad.

First of all the opening credits are amazing, unskippable. Then the balance between the character scenes and action sequences is spot on. Actual actions scenes, good CGI and WELL CHOREOGRAPHED fights : dear Marvel should take notes, yeah I'm looking at you, Hawkeye. The cast feels real and is immediately likable.

Of course, you have to like Gunn's tendency to saturate the screen with OTT overacting characters laughing at their own dirty awful jokes and his obsession with ironic soundtracks, but when it works it really does. The humor has actually room to breath and feels like conversations thanks to the format. In his movies the jokes are so hysterical they can feel like advert lines. And finally the cherry on the cake is the greatness of John Cena who is basically a cartoon Schwarzenegger.

Plus I just rewatched all the available episodes and there is a very clever caterpillar scene that foreshadows the main storyline... Well done DC. Well done.

A great Start.

The pilot episode is amazing. Starts of slow as usual but picks up perfectly. I knew James Gunn is a visionary director, he does things uniquely and this is no different. Great Comedic timing, amamzing soundtrack, great action sequence at the end and what a great dance scene opening credit. Where do we go from here?

My vote is 9.

In all honesty I had more anticipation for the premiere of Book of Boba Fett but this first episode of Peacemaker blew the first 4 episodes of Fett out of the water. Freakin hilarious first episode of Peacemaker and well worth your viewing time. If you loved The Suicide Squad humor you'll love this first episode.

Not bad
alternateending-7608814 January 2022
It's decently funny, the intro is pretty wicked too.

It's a little woke which is kind of cringe but I'm still enjoying it. If it starts to force that more in your face though I will probably stop watching, but overall pretty good. You'll enjoy it for what it is.

It's not the best show ever, but it's pretty fun to watch if you just take it for what it is.

Finally some more shows that makes me smile on the inside!
mtl_freak17 January 2022
This is pure gold and I hope DC will continue experimenting more with other characters in this direction. So many characters to chose from. Think Gunn is a genious here. And Cena and the rest of the cast seems to fit hand in glove.

Yeeeeaaah!

Hilarious show with some woke cringe!
pogmoneyboglins18 January 2022
I'm enjoying this show. It's funny, characters are mostly good and the plot is alright.

It's not woke to the point where it's ruining the show but it is noticeable , completely unneccesary and forced.

Just bumped my score down by one point based on that, so don't let it deter you from watching it if you think the show is interesting! Especially if you liked the new Suicide Squad.

Warning: Spoilers
Yeah, the James Gunn magic is long gone now. It was barely there in GotG2, it wasn't there in the Suicide Squad and it definitely isn't here now. Dude is one note and it got old already. Also, this episode was filled with all the classic progressives cliches. You could predict every single scene based just on who the character is. Old dad who loves America? Racist, homopohobe, abusive parent. Harcourt, a woman? Of course she kicks the asses of the idiots who hit on her (with very, very poor camera work, I might add). The black lesbian? She is the funny one, of course. Vigilante is the weird funny dude and the character has nothing in common with the actual grim vigilante from DC Comics, which is a shame and a bastardization of Marv Wolfman's work. Only saving grace of the show was Cena who fully embraces the ridiculousness of the character and does a decent job. Too little, too late.

P. S.: Btw, you can tell when reviewers are being paid for, it's pretty obvious.

This show is f-king hilarious. I don't know where these dc haters comes from and rate such low score but to me this was a hilarious episode. James Gunn sure knows how to bring out the comedy in superhero characters.

Everything about this was just great. Besides the great production and acting it's just so sarcastically obnoxious and a crazy ride from the first minute to the last. Wow.

A Whole New Whirled
lassegalsgaard23 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There's no one who can ever doubt James Gunn again. He brought a different aspect to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his incarnation of "Guardians of the Galaxy," and brought hope back to fans of the DC Extended Universe with his reboot of "The Suicide Squad," which blew the expectations of every person seeing it. Now, he's back with a show based on one of the best characters in that film and Peacemaker is back with a vengeance and a whole lot of exciting fun. The first episode of "Peacemaker" is the perfect reintroduction to this character and beautifully expands the world he comes from.

The show was apparently conceived after James Gunn was so impressed by John Cena's dramatic acting on the set of "The Suicide Squad." I'm so glad that he was able to spot that because the idea of this show is so outrageous and dumb that it shouldn't be able to work. But it does work because of the beautiful symbiotic relationship there is between Gunn's writing and Cena's portrayal of the character. Cena does have moments where he goes for the joke, obviously, but for the most part, he is taking this so seriously that it becomes funny because of that alone. There are many scenes in this opening episode (in where Cena does stand out amidst a crew of great actors) where he had me down on the ground laughing because of how seriously he took the material. And there is a serious tone to the show, despite it being a comedy. Gunn knows when to slow it down and have moments of pure character development, which makes the supporting cast of this show all the richer. The action sequences are phenomenal, especially the big scene towards the end. Cena has the body of someone who could bench anyone, but he also has that fragile persona that makes him both hilarious and terrifying to watch in a fight. There is a lot that could go wrong after this first episode, and this show could end up being something that had potential, but for now, I'm trusting James Gunn doing his thing and doing it well.

"A Whole New Whirled" is not just a good pun, but the title of a great episode that put me straight back into Gunn's world. He knows how to set up a character to be both empathetic but also an idiot, and this character is only going to get richer as the show goes on.

Solid start
braininacat3 February 2022
For a spin-off show of a very recent movie I would say the first episode does a good job of introducing the characters and plot but does a bad job of giving you a reason to care much about them. The shows best thing going for it is that its on HBO so they can do things with DC that cannot be done on the big screen. What it does not offer is a good reason to get you excited for episode two. The 80's hair-metal soundtrack is definitely worth mentioning as well.

Except it's got some issues. But this first episode has one of the funniest scenes I've seen on TV in IDK how long. Involves the eagle at the dinner table. I had to watch it over and over, it's so freaking hilarious.

A Whole New Whirled
Prismark1022 January 2022
James Gunn made the Guardians of the Galaxy movies for Marvel. His mission is to bring fun to DC.

The first episode of the television Peacemaker starts very much from The Suicide Squad movie.

Christopher Smith/Peacemaker (John Cena) is recovering from his almost fatal injuries. Once he leaves hospital he finds out that he is not that free.

He has been coerced into joining an assassination squad. Only the squad think Peacemaker is a bit of a fool and he also needs to adjust to life outside of prison. Maybe a one night stand is the order of the day.

This is really a Deadpool wannabe. Cena is willing to poke fun of himself, Gunn supplies some old tunes. There are some gross jokes and over the top fight scenes.

What the first episode did not have was a decent set up. There were a few expected twists and a few fun gags.

I liked Gunn's The Suicide Squad. This one so far has stalled at the gates.

What a joke lol. I am amazed that I gave it even a 5. Has John Cena sunk to new low levels since his wrestling days are over? Like watching soft Porn with Cena running around in his tighty whities.

I am a big Marvel Fan boy!!!

Not a toxic one when i can say DC has the most fantastic comics !

But now a days Marvel is ruling the Movies and series industry !!!

But oh man PEACEMAKER is a hell of a series .

It just bang me with everything .DC needs more content like this.

Nice casts , loves how they maintain the character .

Has some nudity and violence's which makes superhero movie series watcher go nuts !!!

Why did i not watch this when it first came out
ha77y73ad973 November 2022
This is the type of content that DC should be producing, its everything that Marvel isnt, violent, awesome comedy and completely awesome story telling. From the events after the Suicide Squad i never thought they would be able to keep the same vibe with a character that we all thought was dead.

The time frame of the story is awesome as learning that Peacemaker was alive it is mentioned that this is 5 months down the road and just makes sense. He's human and takes time to heal after a building falling on him. Cena leans into the craziness of the movie where he is really showing how funny this guy it. Not taking himself seriously just gives us hope that we are just the same as this man mountain how is just funny.

The violence and fights are epic on a very grounded level. 1 on 1 fights where PM is getting beaten beats any of the superhero tropes where they cant be hit!

Theres a whole other level of US patriotism in Peacemakers dad who is going to be a crazy tyrant that is there to infuriate the audience and laugh at his stupidity.

Overall i have all the episodes ready to sit back and enjoy this!
