Pretty cool low budget film
nathanjjevans23 December 2020
Halfway through this film and enjoying it so far. I thought the characters would be really annoying and cringe ,but they're great and pretty accurate as far as YouTube creators go.

I liked the 3 lead actors. I liked the story. One of the better FF movies I've seen lately. It even gave me the chills a couple of times.

seems unfinished

With one exception, this movie could have outdone the "Blair Witch" model for intriguing low-budget horror on its own terms. Unfortunately, it also copies the worst aspect of "Blair Witch": using profanity-laden blather -- as the easiest, lamest way to convey character discomfort -- far too much. Also, the guy yelling the largest quantity of profanities is right next to the microphone and, as such, is louder than those doing so less. The rest could be re-cut into a solid film.

AWFUL

This movie was a complete bore fest. I literally spent half the time doing other things waiting for it to get better. The guy talked like he was reading off a script the whole time. It was so unbelievable it was irritating. Then the two girls fighting over the guy was just nonsense and cringe too. The random "sex" scene was so awkward it made my skin crawl. They acted like two teenagers who had no idea what they were doing. Then the entire time barely anything happens. It was so boring I was already thinking of what else I wanted to watch next. Nothing happens literally. Besides terrible filters, a few green lens flares and crappy moving wallpapers they put no effort into this. I'm actually irritated I lost an hour to this movie. Save yourself and watch something else.

Vlog should remain lost

Warning: Spoilers
I'll give them a point for chutzpah! Three amateur actors play vloggers who investigate a mysterious tree that sends them into alternate dimensions when they march around it. Most of the film features the characters pissing and moaning as they get separated running clockwise and counterclockwise around the featured tree. Occasionally, the video goes multi-colored indicating that something interesting might be coming - but it doesn't. A single rental should cover the film's apparent budget.

Well...

I've seen some real low level dumbassery in the found footage sub genre, but this....this takes it to a new level of low level dumbassery. Thankfully it is short (it doesn't feel like it) and the performances are tolerable, otherwise I would need the ability to award negative stars. Pass this by like your life depends on it.

Shameless plagiarism
salviolog5 November 2020
The movie is not only a cheap knockoff of the Blaire Witch Project, it almost directly copies scenes from it... and, for some strange reason, from 2001 A Space Odyssey. And yet it still manages to be monotonous and boring, combining the worst of both worlds: the convoluted back story from 2001 with slow pacing of the Blair Witch. Slow and overexplained is not a good combination.

Wasn't the worst
wedisney8 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As far as FF goes this wasn't too bad. The acting of the girls wasn't bad but the main guy was terrible. I tend to only rate films that I actually finish and I did finish this one. 2 stars seems harsh but I can't see myself giving it anything more. The setup was typical FF lore with explaining why they will be filming everything. The story itself is very thin and countless times in the same stretch of forest is a bit mind numbing. The glitchy camera artifacts are a bit much but for the most part it was watchable.

It only has an hour run time so if you like found footage films you should give it a go.

Nicely done, short, Indie
sparrish25 November 2020
This is a short low-budget film. But they do a nice job of building suspense . Limited to no special effects, but they don't really even use them. So at lest there are not some lame Special Effects. It is a V-Log, kind of like Blair Witch. But it seems like it is what would have been filmed by a group of college kids tryin to make a V-Log. So it seems pretty authentic.

The ending kind of left me hanging. But perhaps that was the point.

Family Friendly? Lots of cussing - Lots of F-Bombs Some other swearing Some sexual references but no nudity or even partial nudity

I can understand why some people might not like it, but as a found footage fan I enjoyed it. The acting was okay (minus the male lead- he sounded like he was just reading lines at times). It definitely seems like a student film.

If you're into movies like the Blair Witch give it a chance. It's only an hour long.

The Lost Vlog of Ruby Real

I found this short low-budget movie to be one of my favourite movies in a hell of a long time. A simple premise with a simple budget, this movie caught my attention, (and my emotions - as things got beautifully sombre), and really blew my mind. This is a horror movie (the situation the guys find themselves in is horrendous) of great thought, with the premise of inter-dimensionality leading to (in my mind) the broader debate about the paranormal. I really loved this movie and gave it 10/10 stars as it held my attention and provoked me throughout. I thought it edged itself into psychedelic quarters (most welcome) andI thought the acting was first class with Jennifer Tong's performance being outstanding and heartbreaking at the same time. I've been watching horror for many many years now (40 years) and I went into this movie expecting nothing but the usual from another footage movie. After viewing, I can honestly say that this was an amazing low-budget, highly-captivating movie which makes you think. And the thought content is missing from a lot of movies these days. Thanks to the cast and crew for making a terrific movie.

Yes. No. Maybe.

Warning: Spoilers
It would be difficult to write a review of this film without spoilers, but I'll try to keep them to a minimum. Let's say that the best thing about this is that it's only an hour long. Any more than that would have made it unbearable. But even at that short runtime, I still checked twice to see how much longer it was until the end.

This was obviously influenced by "The Blair Witch Project" including getting lost, crossing a river multiple times and "losing" a map because the cell service died -- nice update from 1999. The acting, however, is mostly unbelievable and just the other side of a high school production using people that have never acted before. Special mention should go to Jennifer Tong for the best performance. She is convincing far more than her companions onscreen. A better script may have helped, but maybe not. The best script in the world won't carry people who are inexperienced at acting -- especially in what is meant to be dire circumstances.

Cinematography was excellent, but, conveniently, the "curse" made the setting stay in daylight at all times, so not much to quibble about there.

Watch if you like the found footage genre and/or films that take place completely in a forest. I'll say it's worth a watch because it's an hour, but I can't go much further in recommendation than that.

I'm stuck at home, sick with covid, so I've been watching every Found Footage movie known to man. A lot are absolutely horrible and unwatchable. I liked this one. I liked all three people in this movie and I liked the concept. You could also see what was happening instead of a lot of jerky movements in the dark. As for the ending, I don't think it could have ended any other way. It's one hour long. Give it a shot.

Decent watch for parallel universe films
tbd20042 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I believe that this film is worth watching. While the acting is a little amateurish, the plot of the film is interesting and kept me interested to see what was going to happen. The concept of crossing over into a possibility of infinite parallel dimensions is something I find very interesting and hasn't been done in many films. It was present in the newest Blair Witch film, but only slightly with returning to the same camp and time skipping through to the night. In the Lost Vlog of Ruby Real, a team of three set out to this forest that appeared to be on the outskirts of a city to debunk a myth of crossing into another dimension by walking around this unique tree. They each film themselves walking around the tree and nothing happens within that moment. They concluded that this myth has been debunked and head back to the main trail to the parking lot. I noticed right away that unlike the others, Cali walked around the tree counter-clockwise. I knew right away that this was going to change the dynamics later on and it did, as Cali was the first to "disappear".

When Cali disappeared after going to the bathroom just a few yards away from her friends, the others didn't seem that disturbed. They looped back to the tree to try to find her a few times and just casually concluded she was "gone" and gave up looking. The others would then see her again at a distance standing still with a creepy stare and then suddenly disappeared again. They kept following the trail to be continually looped back to the tree. If the actors had more experience they would have captured a better sense of hopelessness and despair, but we didn't really get that in this film.

Eventually they realized the direction that they circled the tree mattered and when the male circled the tree a second time after going counter-clockwise he disappeared. The remaining girl came across them again in a desperate attempt to find a way out, but saw the others embracing each other. They could not hear or see her as she was in another dimension. She looped back to the tree one last time to circle the tree in the same direction as the others and then was never shown appearing on the other side of the tree. Give this film a chance if you appreciate the found footage genre.

Not bad

It actually had a good idea to it for a low budget film. I agree with another reviewer that we were able to see everything rather than being in the dark whole time lol. Plus filmed in Canada!

Better than anticipated
marrerorj31 January 2024
I went into this with low expectations. There was an intriguing concept and tons of potential. It's the basic ff setup where they showcase why they'll be filming everything. The characters are YouTubers who take off into the woods to debunk an urban legend. They do a short interview with someone who Claims he's done what they're about to and made it out. This bit foreshadows the fate of the YouTubers and does nothing to deter them. I will say that even if they don't believe the legend that there's a real possibility that people may have been hopelessly lost in the woods and they themselves will probably be there most of the day without complications and prepare nothing. I won't say anymore about what happens so I don't spoil it. Towards the end the storyline starts to fall apart. Fortunately it ends as one would expect and gives closure.. of sorts. While this isn't a perfect movie I consider it a little gem and worth a watch.
