This has to be best Turkish show.
wastelanDrifter10 December 2019
As a Turkish guy I grew up hating these cheesy Turkish shows. I stopped watching tv 10+ years ago. I watched this in 2019 from internet and kinda blown away. I would never ever expect this quality from a Turkish show. Acting is good, music is great, story is great. Characters are realistic. If you can endure very little classic Turkish show cheesiness you will enjoy this. Addictive as heroine. You may fall in love with Beren Saat. Her beauty is out of this world.

A little pride maybe would have helped her
rotaruhajime30 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Just re-watched this Turkish Tv series. What I can say, it's still as powerful as dramatic even if I already know how all this will end. Yes what Bihter did was wrong from the start, but I could never hate her, because it wasn't just her in this love affair. It always take 2. The saddest part is that I read that this story was inspired from a true story, in witch the guy actually killed himself, not the girl. I kind of wish to know that version tbh. Anyway what started like a nice love affair, based on lust or maybe even love (I'm not sure it was love) ended being so dramatic. When I first watched it, I was sad that a woman can suffer that much and can't let go of a man that clearly wasn't ready to fight for her. He was a coward from the start till the end. But it was her fault too. Bihter risking all in the name of love I understand, but she should have left him when he didn't run away with her the first time they planned. That was the sign he would never do something like that, he won't risk anything for her. The last episodes were difficult to watch, seeing a woman so weak, so obsessed and so not loving herself. That's a disturbing image. She should have left that house, that man. Actually I don't even understand how she fell that hard for him, he didn't deserve all her fighting. Usually we think pride is a negative quality, and it is, but in this case I think that if Bihter had a little more pride, a little more self love would have helped her to not get involved that much in this story, and to walk away at the end of it

A brave woman madly in love with a coward!
Ramia_m1 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I highly recommend this series. The passion is real, the love, betrayal, struggle, lust, disappointment and falling are all very real. It's not a story about an affair, if so it was not called forbidden "love". It was a story about a feerless young woman falling for a coward yet charismatic man. Behlul would betray Bihter even if it was not a forbidden love. Because he was a selfish spineless man incapable of appreciating the great passionate love he received from this brave woman who would leave everything behind for him. As he said himself this was the only time that he was not the winner of a relationship and that was terrifying for him. That's the reason why I think he would not stand up for her even if the circumstances were normal. He didn't deserve her one bit. It was extremely difficult to see how he was treating her towards the end as I -just like Bihter- believed his tears and demonstrations of love towards her. Such a disappointment. Everything could be different if he wasn't such a coward. I still suffer to understand how he could tolerate witnessing Bihter breaking apart in front of his eyes (his beautiful charismatic eyes) and not feel any remorse. It wasn't just anybody. It was Bihter, the woman he dragged and broke down piece by piece and took her dignity, self respect, confidence and finally her life. It's so heartbreaking to watch. The chemistry between the two and their performances are uncanny, uncanny. Amazing amazing acting and a Great peace of work. Very well done.

One of a kind...
Ch-t-h21 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This series is different in all aspects from any other series I've seen in the romance/drama genre. The end is apocalyptic and the nature of the love affair is different. Based on a novel of the same title, the screenwriters, while deviating in many ways from the original story, manage to remain faithful to major events and themes. The affair is the center around which events revolve from the hatred, misconception, attraction, tension, and love in season 1 to the life of secrecy, cheating, fear, and the many ups and downs Behlul and Biher's relationship faces in season 2.

The development of that relationship is made in a very careful and realistic way... in a way that is designed to attract viewers to sympathize and root for the couple by showing it as a love-driven affair and giving the lovers hearts by exploring their hesitation and internal struggle because of their feelings throughout season 1. The more passionate their relationship in season 2 becomes, the more arguments and fights they have, which, while leaving a bitter taste in your mouth, is very true to their characters; Behlul is a selfish coward, who runs away at the first sign of them getting caught, and Bihter is strong, hard-headed, and will stop at nothing to keep him from being with Nihal (They get engaged so the truth about the affair remain hidden.) The story never seems to be dragging and the screenwriters never fail to engage the viewers with increasing excitement as the story develops especially in season 2, which is why I think Ask-i memnu is different as every other Turkish show I've seen seems to be lost and lacking in purpose in the middle of the second season.

The acting is powerful, and ,in particular, Beren Saat, whose performance is so mind blowing that you actually suffer with Bihter in season 2. In that regard, I would like to lift the hat for whoever did the casting... Beren and Kivanc have crazy chemistry that is rarely matched. And with the rest of the perfect package, Toygar Işıklı composes very beautiful soundtracks for the series.

This is not a story about morals and what is right and what is wrong... It is not didactic in nature. It is a complex exploration of the human heart and mind when people are faced with what they want and what they should not want, and how choosing to betray your loved ones brings misery and isolation to the people who give in to forbidden temptations. The only thing that disturbed me the most about the story is using Nihal as a scapegoat to Behlul's phony attempts at redemption and purification. It seemed so wrong that the people who cared the most about her (Mademoiselle and Besir) chose to "protect" her by not telling her the truth about her fiancé and never thought that finding out too late would do her much more damage. A must see for romance, drama, and beauty lovers.

Forbidden Love killed a woman and injured the rest ... (Heart-Break Like No-Other)
saadgkhan23 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen thousands of movies and shows but have never seen heartbreak like Ask-i-Memnu. In recent times I have not seen a love story like Aski- Memnu, which have left me dazed and devastated for months. I'm writing the whole story and my point of view on Aski- Memnu, which I have not stopped watching since I became aware of it. And YES I've watched every Behlül & Bihter's scenes more than anyone can imagine.

Aski Memnu is a tragic love story of a young woman "Bihter", who marries an older man "Adnan", whom her mother is eying as her second husband to take revenge on her mother who is responsible for her father's death. Adnan is a widower & Turkey's richest business man who lives with his teenage daughter and son. Behlül is Adnan's distanced cousin's son whom he provides home after his parents are passed away. Behlül is Casanova who use to date Bihter's elder sister and because of his reputation Bihter dislike Behlül and never talked to him. After Bihter's marriage to Adnan, Behlül and Bihter dislike each other as Behlül thinks she married his uncle for money and Bihter thinks Behlül is a heartless prick. The things change when certain set of events develop feeling in Behlül's heart towards Bihter. Bihter unaware of Behlül's feeling towards her also starts feeling inclined to him. This leads to a beginning of a forbidden heart breaking romance between Behlül and Bihter. This Forbidden romance kills a woman and injured the rest.

This bleak story I mentioned above doesn't do justice to painful suffering of Bihter "A Woman in Love with a Coward Man". I might have seen several movies and shows but have not seen a woman so much in pain as her. From beginning she is grieving for her father's sudden death which leads to her marriage to an old man and then a Forbidden Love affair with coward man who not for once stood up with her. Every time I was the ending, or Behul's cruel behavior towards Bihter I wish it didn't happened or there must be a way to change it, even if it's just a TV show its more real than anything I have ever seen. I have seen Behlül and Bihter's scenes several times again and again. And I'm still unable to understand how could a man who loved a man so much leaves her in so much pain and devastation.

Beren Saat's performance as Bihter has outdone all performances ever done by any actress in TV or cellulite history. As Bihter, her expressions changes every other minutes and sometimes in seconds. She is happy on front and in extreme pain inside which is visible in her eyes the entire time. Even when she tries to fight her mother to marry an old man or when unwontedly she falls for her husband's nephew. I've never seen a woman more in pain then her, she fall for a coward man who disappointed her on every occasion. She tries to break free of his charisma but falls right underneath it again and again. Just thinking about Bihter's heart break brings tears in my eyes. Conventionally we may are suppose to hate a woman who cheats on her husband with his Son like nephew but we can't. We see her struggling on every step and she tries to fight all odds against her. Even knowing that the man she loves isn't going to stand behind her. There are thousand times I think that she should not have committed suicide for this coward man but honestly there was no other way for her. She was in pain, a pain which was eating her soul and heart and the only way to put him through that pain was to make him finally realize that he even can't live without her.

It won't be wrong to say that Kivanc Tatlitug is one of the world's most beautiful men alive and his casting as Casanova lover Behlül is perfect. His performance is nothing but spectacular, first as Casanova lover, then as man on fire falling for his young aunt, then turning into this obsessive lover to eventually selfish lover and in the end to heartbroken for life lover is exceptional. We can't ignore his charisma, expressions and superb performance.

The chemistry between Beren Saat and Kivanc Tatlitug is magical, at least I have never seen chemistry like that ever and especially in TV shows it's not possible. Every day the moment they see each other there is this fire and unspeakable magic between them. Even when we see Bihter and Behlül hating each other in the start or when they feel attracted to each other and when they fall in love with each other and in the end when they fight. There are a still magical expressions, eyes and body languages which is rare and uncommon between two people. To understand how powerful their chemistry and performance is you have to watch their every scene multiple times. I swear Bihter and Behlül's every second's expression is a million dollar; even they are not in a scene together and hear each other's voice on phone or someone else even say their name. Their facial expression and eyes are not worthy. No wonder this show looks more than real than any reality show or documentary.

I've become obsessed with the show and its amazing cast, direction, writing, background music and production value. I think everyone should take time out to watch this incredible series as just like me you would have not seen woman like "Bihter" whose heart have been broken thousand times in to pieces and she still tries to fight again and again all alone for the coward lover who never can stand up to the world. Long after the series will be over this will haunt you as you've never seen a woman as broken as Bihter.

Absolutely Brilliant
zarmena17 September 2012
I hardly watch TV and when I do, it HAS to be good. I recently started watching an Urdu dubbed version of Ask-i-memnu and I must admit that the brilliance with which this show has been made took me by surprise. All actors did a fantastic job in their roles, especially Beren Saat and Kivanc, whose performances deserve applaud. Adnan's son was hilarious at times and the children's nanny (Denise) is also worth mentioning.

As far as the story is concerned, it is full of twists and turns. It's not like your typical, innocent love story with a few villains. Every single person in the story has some sort of a personal agenda that they're working towards. I guess credit goes to the author of the beautifully written novel that this show is based upon.

Although I am giving it 10/10, I do agree with one point that a reviewer made here regarding the love scenes between Bihter and Behlul. The original novel was set in the late 19th century and I understand that this show was supposed to have a more modern setting, but the almost pornographic scenes between Bihter and Behlul were a little unnecessary. They do not deter you from enjoying the show, however. The fact that it has been translated in a number of languages and attracted viewers from all over the world speaks volumes about Ask-i-memnu's success.

I am in love with Kivanc <3
hidrijouda27 October 2022
I liked the first episodes when Behlul and Bihter were falling for each other.

Then Season 1 became like a thriller, you feel scared they get caught everytime they meet.

Season 2 made no sens to me, and the last 10 episodes were so full of unfairness. I couldnt coninue watching.

My favourite episode is the last one. Everyone got what they deserved at the end.

Last scene of Behlul I expected it to be more emotional. But it was the end he deserved pretty much.

The best performance of Kivanc, I think, is in this series. The way he is in love, the way he is scared, the way he lies. I am in love with him.

One of the best projects in Turkish Drama
chera_khalid2 October 2023
Ask-i Memnu (2008-2010) unfolds like a mesmerizing tapestry of forbidden love, with performances that etch themselves into the soul. The acting is a nuanced dance, with the lead actors embodying the complexity of their characters' emotions. The film editing crafts a narrative that feels like a delicate balance between passion and societal norms, drawing you into the intricate web of love and heartache. The strength of Ask-i Memnu lies in its unapologetic exploration of the human heart's capacity to defy conventions. While the pacing may falter at times, the music weaves through the story, accentuating the highs and lows of illicit passion. The cinematography captures the opulence of the world it portrays, adding a layer of visual poetry to the emotional drama. With a 7/10 rating, Ask-i Memnu is a captivating journey into the complexities of love, where every stolen glance and whispered secret leaves an indelible mark on the heart.

I have no idea why this became so famous.
rimshaimtiaz-532768 January 2022
This show is excessively long. There are many irrelevant and absolutely unnecessary side-stories. There is a problem, it builds up, but then it resolves itself, adding or changing nothing to the show. Suspense is there, but its killed over and over again because they have stretched this show far too much.

For the main story, there is little to no character development and motives are weak. Also everyone happens to be listening in on everyone. You can't tell who the main character is supposed to be at times. Bihter and Behlul are extremely indecisive which is unrealistically show. The romance in this show is weird. Making characters kiss and say I love you isn't the way to depict love. If this show wanted me to fall in a moral dilemma where I was rooting for two forbidden lovers but also sympathizing with everyone they hurt, then this is the worst way to do it. Nothing in this show made me convince that the characters were more than lustful cheaters.

However, what makes this show bearable is hat it has likeable and relatable characters. The acting is good, and styling is enjoyable.

Astonishing and breathtaking
bluemagic-392839 December 2020
Beren Saat is clearly the heart and soul of this TV show. She is not just devastatingly beautiful, she is also a great actress. I am smitten with her. She is amazing in the role of Bihter, like it was written just for her. If you pay attention to her mimics, her gestures, her delicate face muscles. She expresses those deep emotions with such a precision. She is the Goddess of acting. Everything else fades. What Hollywood, what famous stars? Beren Saat. Period.

I would really like to see more movies or TV shows with Beren Saat in the leading role...

Yes, it's true, Ask-i memnu is not the best show ever, being cheesy sometimes. But all the emotion it evokes, all the passion, the sadness, you can feel it in your bones. Definitely worth watching at least once.

Watched only one soap opera
energy_ucoz5 January 2022
This is the only turkish soap opera i almost watched fully in my life. I skipped some of the last episodes. Cause it is too damn long. If u like love/hate series or movies u gonna love this one. Acting great, story too dramatic sometimes, characters not very smart. Hated the ending. Watched this in 2013-2014. Somehow, remembered about it, wanted to give a review.

Unique and Different
Weld_On_The_Moon4 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, the relationship between the two main characters,Behtar and Behlul, is different from most other Turkish TV series out there. It is not innocent or safe, but the complete opposite of that. In my opinion it mainly started out with lust more than love, but then it developed and got more serious Behtar decides to marry Adnan, an older, rich successful guy because she thought she loved him and to prevent her mother from marrying him. Behtar holds a grudge towards her mother throughout the series, and that is because her father had died whilst catching her mother cheating on him.

As the story progresses, Behlul (Adnans long distant nephew who lives in the same house) develops a crush on Behtar, and at the beginning, Behtar shows no interest back, but as he approaches her, she starts having feelings for him too. They then start having a secret, passionate affair, and that goes on until one of the servants finds out A very eventful series full of twists and surprises with other interesting sub-stories going on. I have to say that I started paying more attention to the show as their affair progressed since I find that kind of love story different from what's out there. Either way, I enjoyed watching the show and i'd give it a solid 8/10

'Amazing' is this show's title
lovelyaltagracia4 July 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This show is extremely beautiful, I watched it for like two years and I never got bored not even once, it's a beautiful and a very sad show and I'm not just referring to the ending which was really sad by the way.

The show is about Bihter, a very beautiful young woman who hated her mother so much because she was cheating on her father which led to his death, so she decided to get even with her mother by marring the man her mother wanted for herself (she stole him from her mother; well, I wouldn't call it stealing as the man never thought about the mother he only had the daughter in mind, but yes technically she did steal him) The man's name was Adnan and he was way older than her. Anyway, that man has a family; a daughter and a son and he also has Behlül his nephew (well..his not actually his nephew, he's a long distance relative, he calls Adnan 'uncle' as Adnan raised him since he lost his parents in an accident). Behlül is a fine gorgeous guy who spends his nights in clubs with girls, that's actually all what he does, he likes to show off a lot (if I might say). Bihter and Behlül hated each other since the first episode for two reasons; the first one cause he dated her sister and blew her off like he usually does with all the girls, and the second reason was because she hated the way he's living his life (as a spoiled boy), as for him, well.. she's not his type ... or that's what he thought at first.

Anyway, the story really began after the marriage of Bihter and Adnan, as Bihter moved in Adnan's house, so she was officially living under the same roof as Behlül (things could happen!! people change!!!.... yes they do) ....yup, we all saw that coming, all that hatred between Bihter and Behlül just turned into this forbidden passionate love story that no one knew about except them and us (the viewers I mean)) .......this relation had its ups and downs, had jealousy plus there was always a reason for them to get caught but it never happened and they kept on cheating and cheating all the people around them; Adnan and the rest of the family. It wasn't something they were proud of but they couldn't help it they were madly in love and drawn into each other hopelessly.

that was the first season of the show

as for the second season

The relation continued but the servants started to be aware of this relationship and other few people did too, anyway let's skip to the ending, Bihter committed suicide in the last episode (What an episode it was!!!!) I cried my eyes out, not to mention Behlül who spent a whole day grieving over her tombstone crying and crying unstoppably, even though it was such a dramatic finale but it was realistic, they wouldn't pull this through anyway (I mean the relationship), ethically this is 'sin' written allover it. Though their love was deep and real, it did hurt a lot of people at the end, indeed.

disgusting-i-memnu/lust-i-memnu or askimemnu?
smlonuk16 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
As usual of Ece and Melek going for taboo issues and breaking societies of norm they went for the adoption of ask-i-memnu. The original story and the show is very different in terms how much lust exists in the show we're practically given a porn scene at the end of season 1 for ratings whilst the originally story was to show a society reforming, new values and dangers and perhaps not a good idea of having a play boy in the house and a young beautiful wife who is very manipulative and there was no kissing/porn involved in that story. I actually don't have much to say except that Beren Saat's acting in season 2 is terrific when she goes into her psychotic behavior. This affair of theirs continues whilst everyone including the fiancé of Behlul has some suspicious.

Did they ever love each other? I really doubt that it was more of a attraction, chemistry they supposedly had than feelings and having power over each other. Do I think the main leads had the attraction for the chemistry? For me they didn't have that chemistry however that's good as I didn't like the storyline but watched it as I heard many praises about it. I skipped most of season 1 and part of season 2 but I was surprised I was still in the same timeline that the husband is so unaware of his wife's actions whilst they continued to sleep with each other behind his back.

The innocent in this story: The 3rd lead Nihal. She is irritating at times but she's played at hands of many people in the show including Bihter and Behlul. She is the one who truly loved Behlul and MAYBE in time if Behlul had moved away from the house could've loved Nihal too.

However the thing that I couldn't digest of all Behlul happens to be same guy that was long-term boyfriend of Bihter's sister Peyker. It's like Henry 8th who slept with Ann Bolyn and her sister except the mother.

Oh and lastly the couple i enjoyed the most in the show were Peyker and Nihat.

Would I recommend this show? Not really but I've to say the direction was good and so was the music. The set and clothing was also fabulous and as always you've an attractive blond Kivanc Tattlitug playing the role of a play boy perhaps that's another reason for the success of the show.

Best soap opera I've ever watched
holacharito17 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Acting 10/10 Music 10/10 Storytelling 10/10

An amazing a complex series with flawed characters that give you mixed-feelings; it really gets to the point where you can either hate and love a character at the same time.

I've seen comments where people say Behlul is the villain because he's a coward that never intended to actually do something about his relationship with Bihter while Bihter is a heroine that has to endure a lot of pain because she's heartbroken. Both of these statements are true but there is so much more to the story. In reality, both of them are horrible characters starting for the fact that they betrayed Etnan; a very good man that was actually too patient and too nice with his wife. I would even say that Bither is a worse person than Behlul because of all of the terrible decisions she makes on the last stretch of the story where she ends up harming some of the family members and employees for no reason than her obsession with Behlul; and this cannot be justified just because she's "in love" and in pain. Her only redeemable quality is that she tried to tell the truth and deep down she did feel bad about her betrayal; her actions say otherwise though.

About Behlul, he suffers because of his mistakes but never does something about it. He might feel guilt but he still chooses to keep his affair with Bihter; his actions speak louder than his feelings. He constantly criticizes Bihter because she's very manipulative and always makes Etnan feel guilty but fails to recognize that if it was up to her, she would have said the truth a long time ago and wouldn't have to lie so blatantly. Once he realizes that Bihter has ended up becoming a horrible person, he leaves her which imo was the best thing for both of them. But them he decides to use Nihal as his saviour, her innocence will "cleanse" him. His intentions with her might be good but dragging her innocent cousin into his lie was simply a terrible thing to do to her. Plus he cheated on her with Bihter and would've done it again if he was up to him lol.

I believe Bihter and Behlul were so trashy that they both deserved each other; so I ended up rooting for them to run away and be happy together lol. Next thing I was rooting for is for Bihter to get out of that house. But well, they got the ending they deserved. They destroyed a family and ended up harming their loved ones in the process; they should've seen it coming.

Honestly, the best tv series I've ever watched and one of the few ones I re-watch every once in a while.

Well written but awkward series
krumins-2524617 June 2022
What I liked in this series is the well written story.

What I did not like in this series is the chosen names, it took time to memorise them, Behlul, Bihter, Besir, Bulent ... Beren Saat is not my favourite, she looks beautiful but her acting skill is very weak, just a Cold Queen who cannot walk on high heels.

A story about a passionate love affair between a young woman and her step nephew
aaq-4667030 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The most attractive factor of this serial for me was that the hero and heroine were also the villains. There were no angelic romantic characters bathing in pure love. Bihter was a selfish bitch while behlul was a spineless coward who always betrayed bihter. But we still cry and grieve for and with bihter because her passion for behlul redeems her. Beren s aats acting was honestly brilliant. I couldn't help breaking down in season 2 despite knowing how bihter is responsible for her own state. The ending can be criticized as traditional but in my opinion it serves behlul best that bihter dies. Had she survived behlul would have made a life with her and would never have to repay for the sins he committed. I think adnan was the biggest victim of all. He devoted everything to bihter and behlul and yet they betrayed him. The reason I am giving this an 8 instead of a 9 is because season 1 was a bit boring and stretched out in my opinion. It took 28 episodes for behlul to pursue the forbidden love. The music, direction, acting, on screen chemistry and the dangerous and sinful nature of the love shared between the couple- all served to make this serial an amazing experience.

This is NOT the best Turkish series, it is very weak

I thought this was going to be unusual and great (reading the 10 star teenager reviews) but found out it had one of the worst directing and editing in addition to Sound and some of really really bad acting. I watched until episode 10 and got extremely bored and disappointed. Just read the book, it is much better. They destroyed the book with this series. There are so many talented directors and actors in Turkey, just use them.
