Mislabeled
Luvya01174 September 2022
Not a bad movie, just mislabeled. It's not a comedy. It's a full on look at the scandals and people behind them at mega churches. The saving grace is the acting. Both leads show their acting chops in a major way, but the script and the movie is just a bit boring. I gave it a 6 for the message and the acting but not a movie I would run and tell people about. Again, the two main actors are great, just this script doesn't match their talent, their talent instead carried the script.

And why are we required to write a 600 character review now? Well no need to read below just making this a novel in order to submit...

Comical Look At Religion
stevendbeard3 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I saw Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul, starring Regina Hall-Shaft_2019, Law Abiding Citizen; Sterling K. Brown-This Is Us_tv, Black Panther; Nicole Beharie-Breaking, 42 and Conphidance-Little America_tv, Fist Fight.

This is a comical look at religion that is based on a short film by the same name. Regina plays the First Lady to Pastor Sterling, the head of a mega Southern Baptist Church with a congregation in the thousands. They have money, cars, jewelry, a helicopter and all the other perks that come with the job. Then, Sterling has a sex scandal that darkens his life and he looses everything. After pay offs and lawyer fees, he has to start over and now he has to deal with a new church opening up that is being run by Nicole and Conphidance, former members of his congregation. Oh yeah, there is also a documentary crew following Regina and Sterling that are videoing everything, both good and bad.

It's rated R for language and sexual content-no nudity-and has a running time of 1 hour & 42 minutes.

It's not one that I would buy on DVD or even rent. If you want to see it, I'd wait until it comes to tv.

Could've been better...........
owenpont-7080319 September 2022
It wasn't a bad film but I was left wanting more from it. Sterling K. Brown and Regina Hall did absolutely fantastic in this film. They carried the film tremendously and keep the film interesting throughout. But I feel like the film just didn't know what it wanted to be. On one hand it was a comedy and the other it felt like a drama. Both could have worked alone and maybe together, but it didn't with this film to me. It could've been because walking into the film I thought it was going to be like What We Do In Thr Shadows or The Office but it wasn't. Overall it was a film with fantastic acting and a great concept but to me it had trouble finding out what it wanted to be and how to tell its story.

It wasn't good, but it wasn't THAT bad.
heyhey_3 September 2022
I'm not sure, but it seems like this movie was somewhat based on Eddie Long. Eddie Long was a pastor from Atlanta who had a few scandals.

I found a couple parts to be funny, but overall it wasn't good. I was surprised to see Sterling a part of a movie like this. It's nice to see him explore different roles. I gave four starts because I like Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown.

Many people don't want to accept that many of the things that were portrayed in this movie occurs and have occurred in churches.

If you don't like people mocking religions or churches then this movie is NOT for you. If you don't care about religion or church, check it out you may like it.

'Jesus Christ was all about the shock factor'
AfricanBro2 September 2022
Firstly Sterling K. Brown looked either high or coming from a mini crying session in the bathroom for the entire movie. This is basically a black movie version of The Righteous Gemstones, and even though they both follow run of the mill satire, this was way on the nose and just not as good. It was written to be funny but most of the jokes really don't land. I only had one genuine chuckle. It's less of a movie and more of a behind the scenes of a documentary about a religious leader's scandal. And it's one of those pastors who preach about prayer and reading the Bible without actually talking about what's inside, I only recall one Bible quote, everything else was just vibes, that "oh hallelujah, mmmmh jesssuuss....you feel that, oh praise him!" type.

How on the nose everything was also kept making the next 10-15min of the movie predictable, and all shenanigans started to feel repetitive. There was nothing special about it. Only good thing about it was Sterling K. Brown and Regina Hall performances in it. The ending was underwhelming as well, an unenthused finale to a mediocre movie. Go watch The Righteous Gemstones instead if you're looking for a funnier attempt at religious satire.

Don't Sell This One Short
brentsbulletinboard4 September 2022
Nobody likes hypocrites - unless, of course, they make good fodder for laughs, as is the case in this sidesplitting new comedy from writer-director Adamma Ebo. The target here is the hypocrisy often present in the bluster-filled fundamentalist megachurches, whose elaborate Sunday services play like big-budget Broadway productions and for which their pastors ask their congregations to fork over wads of cash - all in exchange for allegedly saved souls and their leaders' ability to live lives of grossly ostentatious affluence. Invariably, though, these schemes come with a catch in which their two-faced preachers get caught in career-ruining scandals that expose just how hypocritical and corrupt they really are. Such is what happens in this mockumentary-style offering about a once-big time Atlanta pastor and his "first lady" as they attempt to rebound from a fall from grace that rings all too familiar in the evangelist community. Filmmaker Ebo's debut feature pulls no punches in the picture's critically biting humor and in its periodic forays into dramatic material, moves meant to draw attention to the innate insincerity of its protagonists (and some of its parishioners). In doing so, the film straddles a fine line between comedy and drama, presenting a carefully concocted mix that works much of the time but occasionally becomes a little too heavy-handed for its own good. Nevertheless, "Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul." makes an impact with its fine performances by Sterling K. Brown and Regina Hall, as well as its wickedly delicious wit and ample sight gags, elements that will have viewers delightfully giggling with glee. This one might not have you on your knees, but you might easily fall over laughing.

Adamma Ebo expands her short film to feature length and despite a longer runtime and larger scope, isn't much more substantive than the original short
IonicBreezeMachine2 September 2022
Set in Atlanta, Georgia, a husband and wife team of pastors consisting of Lee-Curtis (Sterling K. Brown) and Trinitie Childs (Regina Hall) operate the Wander to Greater Paths Baptist megachurch which has brought them great wealth and fame and at their apex had 25,000 congregants. Following allegations of sexual behavior done by Lee-Curtis, the church has been temporarily closed as the Childs have tried to ride out the fallout and settle with the accusers. The Childs enlists the aid of a documentary crew to follow them around as they attempt to revitalize the church and Lee-Curtis' image, however a rising star Baptist church, Heaven's House run by Shakura (Nicole Beharie) and Keon Sumpter (Conphidance) is positioned for a major opening the same day as Wander to Greater Paths' reopening.

Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul is the feature deubt of Adamma Ebo whose previous credits are short films. The movie is an adaptation of her 2018 short film of the same name following the same plot, but is now given a major remake with behind the scenes support from Daniel Kaluuya and Jordan Peele who are executive producers as their companies 59% Productions and Monkeypaw Productions are listed producers on the film. Debuting simultaneously in theaters and Universal's Peacock streaming service, I wasn't all that sure what to expect of the film but was mildly intrigued by the premise having watched the original short film prior to my viewing. Unfortunately what was good material for a short film struggles to be substantive enough to justify a 100 minute runtime.

Assuming you've seen the original short film, the film follows many of the major plot and comedic beats that were present in the original short albeit remixed ever so slightly so some may happen sooner or later in relation to others as to not make this a complete 1:1. With a greatly expanded budget from what Ebo worked with on the original short she does get a little more ambitious such as playing with the aspect ratio and using 4:3 footage that's been mocked up to look like a megachurch telecast, and we're also given a greater view of the opulence and excess in which the Childs live with both the Childs espousing empty religious platitudes whilst showing off their expensive fashions, foreign luxury cars, and elaborate mansion that runs counter to many of their biblical teachings in some solid enough satire even if the two sitting on gilded thrones as seen on the poster maybe throws a little too much subtlety out the window.

However despite us getting to see more of Lee-Childs and Trinitie than we did in the short we never really learn much more about them than we did in the short with many of the scenes that have been added more or less variations on the same point and additions like the Childs five remaining parishioners or the sub-plot of a rival Baptist church stealing their congregation don't really add much. The movie kind of keeps the mockumentary format used in the short as the setup and premise is more or less the same between both, but in a rather strange decision the Mockumentary format isn't consistently applied and there are many scenes where no cameras are present and they're presented as a straight forward narrative which breaks the verisimilitude of the presentation, not that the format is used all that well as the key comic bits used in the short are all revisited and while they were funny in mockumentary format, when they're presented in straightforward narrative style it makes gags that were awkwardly funny too self-aware with usage of non-diegetic sound and that robs a few scenes of the comic punch they once had. The movie also strangely tries to make Trinite and Lee-Curtis more sympathetic than they were in the original short down to removing the original context in the short that the act in question was with a minor and I'm honestly not sure why Ebo did this because it places the Childs in this weird gray zone where they're not hateful enough to be laughed at but they're also too unlikable to be seen as underdogs making the whole thing come off pretty depressing.

Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul unfortunately is not a good debut for Adamma Ebo and if you are curious in seeing this film I recommend just watching the original short as it contains the best parts in the movie anyway. I think Ebo has promise as a filmmaker and the movie is competently made, but perhaps she needs a co-writer to help her flesh out her ideas in the future.

Mis-characterized As A Comedy Should be a Light Tissue demanding Drama
tgsinc4 September 2022
Regina Hall and Sterling K Brown were brilliant in their respective roles and while there wasn't chemistry between the two of them I took that as part of the struggle trying to get expressed in the relationship between the "Pastor" and the "First lady". I found it painful to watch because it pushed the harsh realities of messy human through the ambitions, callings and competitive natures within and between churches. I found the interjection of the documenting person difficult to grasp since it wasn't a flowing part of the movie dialogue. It is a captivating watch mainly because I think it keeps you looking for that moment when something bigly defining would happen but maybe that is the reality of of yesterdays church generation. Regina Hall and Sterling K Brown as I said were brilliant and have that something in their acting that keeps it deep so it was hard to sit shallow with this one.

So Disappointed!
kaceybaby-266503 September 2022
Listen I've never even written a review here before and I LOVE Regina Hall so I'm not even sure why I chose to add negativity to a movie attached to her at 2 am. I think it's because I can't get that 1h 43mins back. So unbelievably disappointed in this movie. As I mentioned I love Regina Hall! By far one of my favorite comedic actresses. I also really like Sterling. He was absolutely my favorite person on This Is Us. Nicole Beharie is just an incredible dramatic actress. Then I just found out that Jordan Peele was an Executive Producer. This movie had all of the parts to make it successful. It had everything it needed to be great and it just didn't deliver for me. It could be because I'm not a fan of the format. It gives very much of The Office vibes. Fake documentary with funny. However, any The Office episode you put up against this will demolish this movie. I'm just so surprised and disappointed. I also hate to say this but I felt like it made a mockery of the Church. Don't get me wrong there is definitely drama and scandals in the Church world. It's just some of the things said I know it's going to throw a lot of hate towards the actors even though they didn't write the script. I'm so saddened by it because it just had so much potential. I can't really put my finger on what is missing or what would've made it better but I know that it really should've been reevaluated before they brought it to the screen.

ego and dignity at odds
ferguson-61 September 2022
Greetings again from the darkness. Welcome to the Greater Paths Baptist Church. Or what's left of it. Writer-director Adammo Ebo has expanded her 2018 short story (same title) into a feature film that serves up a satirical look at the proliferation of mega churches and all that entails - ego, greed, self-absorption. Her best move was casting Regina Hall and Sterling K Brown in the crucial lead roles.

In the faux-archival footage, we see Pastor Lee-Curtis Brown (Sterling K Brown) eloquently and passionately sermonizing to the massive congregation. At its peak, his church had 26,000 members who filled the offering plates each Sunday. We know this because this pastor is not shy about flashing his designer label clothes or collectible cars, or mentioning the private jets and helicopters. He uses these glitzy material goods to reinforce what good Christians each member is. But that was then, and this is now. The church has been closed due to a very public scandal involving Pastor Lee-Curtis and his inappropriate behavior with teenage boys.

The story here involves the pastor and his first lady wife Trinitie (Regina Hall) as they strategize about creating excitement for the grand re-opening of their church. The scandal is clearly the biggest hurdle; but so is Heaven's House, a local church run by 'Pastor Sumpter and Pastor Sumpter', a husband and wife team played by Conphidance and Nicole Behari (so good in BREAKING, 2022). After the scandal, Heaven's House welcomed many transferring members and is now in the process of growing their church to a new level.

This is a mockumentary and the "documentary" filmmakers follow Lee-Curtis and Trinitie around most of the day, sometimes even when they aren't particularly welcome. Because of this, we see Lee-Curtis as a narcissist mostly devoid of any semblance of reasonable perception of how others view him. He may seek the road to redemption, but that trust has been broken. Trinitie stood by her man through the hard times, and it seems clear they are both desperate to regain the power and privilege that is now lost.

Sterling K Brown and Regina Hall are both fully committed to these roles. Brown's intensity, no matter how displaced his character feels, absolutely works. And Regina Hall's performance is even more fun to watch. She's especially effective at showing Trinitie's inner turmoil of maintaining dignity versus the desire for the power lifestyle. She excels at biting her tongue and struggles to avoid letting her true feelings show ... she's a pillar of loyalty behind a cheerleader's fake smile. She also delivers the perfect final shot.

This mockumentary isn't funny in the Christopher Guest way, but rather with a bleak commentary on power-hungry people and megachurches, with a few exceptions. What once was a congregation over 20,000 is now only the "Devout Five". We get the best ever pinkie toe joke, and Ms. Hall and Mr. Brown go all in on their rendition of Crime Mob's "Knuck You if You Buck" while driving. It's a bit confusing that the faux-doc doesn't fully follow the idea of only showing what the camera crew captures, but the description of "EGO" as 'edging God out', and a marketing plan seemingly tied to a glittery handheld sign and statue of Jesus give us some idea about these two. In TOMBSTONE, Doc Holiday states, "My hypocrisy knows no bounds", and that's so true for Lee-Curtis and Trinitie. While there are flashes of brilliant satire, unfortunately the target is just too easy, and the filmmaker chooses to remain on the surface rather than dig deep for the juicy part.

Opens in theaters on September 2, 2022.

We Can Honk for Jesus, but the Soul isn't able to be Saved
chenp-5470820 April 2022
Saw this back at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.

"Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul" is directed by Sisters Adamma Ebo and Adanne Ebo which is the story about in an aftermath of a huge scandal, Trinitie Childs, the first lady of a prominent Southern Baptist Mega Church, attempts to help her pastor-husband, Lee-Curtis Childs, rebuild their congregation. The Ebo sisters had previously made a short film also called Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul. This movie relies on religious satire and humor about the church system involved with the black communities. All the performances were great especially Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown sells the entire movie. The presentation of a mockumentary style fits perfectly to the tone and presentation. There are some really good camerawork throughout the entire movie but the decision to keep changing the aspect ratio gets annoying the time and time it goes on. Aspect ratio changes during the movie is alright if they serve a purpose but this movie doesn't have a purpose to keep changing it's aspect ratio.

Many of the jokes and references about religion, church, politics, and such are seemingly big misses and it didn't land well with the story as much. The story is unfortunately the most bland and basic story that a satire could choose and because of the bland narrative, it doesn't really feel like a satire but more of a bland comedy. I am not religious but I think maybe if I was religious, I probably would like the movie more. None of the characters are as engaging as I hoped for. Everyone felt like paper cuts from a basic book you find in high school that is hidden away from the public.

The Ebo Sisters definitely have talent but honestly, I prefer the short film version they did.

Harsh Truths about the Modern Church
champjohnson293 September 2022
Regina Hall and Sterling K Brown are a great duo in this film. Both are hilarious when needed and add emotional depth when needed. The documentary style of it takes some getting used to... maybe for budget reasons. There are times where I wish more happened. The story felt unfinished and there was no real character arcs in my opinion but I guess thats a real depiction of life because most preachers who find themselves in this type of predicament usually dont learn. I enjoyed what was given overall. I laughed out loud so many times. Regina is great in this. An acquired taste for some. Entertaining for others.

Great Acting, not much else
bersley-733427 September 2022
I expected it to be funny or thought provoking. There were moments that it was. Is it about a marriage, the church, religion exploitation, sex abuse? I dont know. Not very satisfying to watch mostly.

The tone was also inconsistent for me. At times quirky, ridiculous, at times serious, but not a point that defined the film.

The documentary style was good at first, but later it became gimmicky.

The thing that saved it for me was the performance of the two lead. Regina Hall was great and Sterling K Brown gave a very convincing performance as a self centered, egotistic, but charismatic pastor. Those who go to church might recognize the type.

Trash
itsthelegacyme2 September 2022
This movie was big trash! It's supposed to be funny but it's not. Such a waste of money and I only went to see it for Regina Hall but it's a no from me dawg. And I was even more mad when I found out I could have just watched it on Peacock... I left the theater in the and then movie wasn't even a good 30 mins in. It was just so bad I'm surprised it was green lit to even be shown in theaters it definitely could have just been released on a streaming app and that's it. The review requires 600 characters and I don't even really have 600 characters worth of things to say about this terrible movie........

Maybe viewers with a deeper connection to religion and how the American "church system" works will find it more entertaining...
msbreviews21 February 2022
If you enjoy reading my Spoiler-Free thoughts, please follow my blog to read my full review :)

"Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul carries tremendous potential as a religious satire, but besides Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown's dedicated performances, it's hard to find other enjoyable components.

Except for two admittedly hilarious sequences, the vast majority of jokes and references about religion and the church don't land at all. The bland dramatic storyline takes itself way too seriously, negatively affecting the balance between the different types of narrative.

The idea behind the distinct aspect ratios makes sense on paper, but its repetitive, constantly switching execution becomes more frustrating than anything else.

Maybe viewers with a deeper connection to religion and how the American "church system" works will find it more entertaining..."

Great Social Commentary!
leonaustenla10 September 2022
Some Christians drag this movie, because it condemns their bad ways. Some say it is an offense to god himself, tho the point is that god doesn't even play any role in this piece.

Tons of believers can't be who they truly are, not because of judgement from god himself, but because of moral condemnation by other believers who don't love, who hate and judge and condemn instead.

This movie shows (and even kinda underserved) the true horror of the prosperity gospel, the massive misuse of trust by preachers and the absolutely evil and misguided, shallow intentions of some.

Jesus himself would love this, because it condemns those who misuse religion for selfish gain and moral superiority. So let's wreck the temple!

Jesus recommends: Honk for Jesus!

It was terrible! Cringeworthy at times and left me thinking to myself "what the...". The actors were great but the storyline and premise of the movie was very confusing and seemed sporadic. It left me feeling very confused and I couldn't believe a movie like that even made it to theaters. Truly terrible storyline. And it definitely didn't come across as a comedy! It left you with so so many questions and just upset that you had just lost a couple hours of your life. I literally wanted to get my money back for the movie ticket I paid for because it was just so bad...there was a lot that was unanswered and not in a good throughly provoking way, just in a bad WTF that was awful type of way. Truly the actors were great , they played the characters great but the entire plot of the story was bad. Not worth making it into a movie for the cinema.

"Do you feel Jesus Christ in your heart?"

In the aftermath of a huge scandal, Trinitie Childs, the first lady of a prominent Southern Baptist Mega Church, attempts to help her pastor-husband, Lee-Curtis Childs, rebuild their congregation.

A film that aesthetically I have nothing to reproach, Regina Hall is fantastic I love the versatility it has to jump between genres without falling into repetitive fetishes and Sterling K. Brown is a good complement for the Cynic development of his character.

My problem with this movie was the countless directorial decisions that make the movie lack a constant rhythm and at times become repetitive in what it poses. The script could have been very good if it weren't for some dialogues that didn't add anything to the plot but lengthened it to its progressive deterioration.

Despite all those problems the movie is decent and funny about how they developed the religious history with comedy tones.

A Little Too Raw
bestfaceforwardpr5 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This ain't nothing but the Bishop Eddie Long story. I didn't find it as funny as much as kinda too real. There were definitely some funny parts like when they both recited Knuck If You Buck word for word-but then the laughs were dampened when you consider what REALLY happened. For example like when they show them trying to make love and he automatically flips her over-hinting at the not-yet revealed part of the movie where you found out he was having gay sex as part of his infidelity. Regina Hall and Sterling K. Were the superb actors they've always been, and I was delighted to see Nicole Beharie in here doing her thing as well. But the story is d_mn near a biopic-they should've released this as such with a disclaimer of being "loosely based on true events". Instead it was billed as a comedy and that's where it lost most people-including me. New Birth is right up the street from me. And although it's still in operation (barely from what I can see), can't nobody forget what Bishop Long was accused of before he died. I hope those boys (now men) found closure and that this movie doesn't add insult to injury for what they've been through.😩😩😩

Warning: Spoilers
'Honk for Jesus' really needed 'Righteous Gemstones'-type marketing, making it clear that the film was skewering the hypocrisy of churches that peach 'prosperity gospel.' I'm seeing way too many instances of devout church folk walking into this expecting one thing and getting the exact opposite.

Coming in with zero expectations, I thought this film was a lot of fun. Regina Hall eats up every moment she was given and Sterling K. Brown did an excellent job portraying the menace, repression, and desperation hiding behind Pastor Childs' million-dollar smile and Prada suits.

I loved how the audience isn't spoon-fed the core details of Pastor Childs' scandal-we were left to piece the details behind the disintegration of Lee-Curtis' and Trinity's marriage as we witnessed their increasing moments of disconnect. Regina Hall playing women stuck in relationships with closet-cases could be a genre unto itself at this point and I'm here for it, lol.

L O U S Y
justintannerpw12 September 2022
The hardest film genre to nail is probably the faux-documentary-comedy. There's basically "This is Spinal Tap," "Best in Show," the "Borat" movies, and to a lesser degree "Waiting for Guffman" and its follow ups. The rest are stuck in that grey area in between 'fighting for naturalism' and "lousy slapstick." If you want to see an example of how badly it can go when the director (and most of the actors) don't have a clue, try watching "Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul," a dismally unfunny attempt to make comedy from the Mega-Church Scandal phenomenon, a subject that is already overripe with self-parody: No matter how hard this movie tries, it can't compete with the truth. ("The Real Housewives of..." franchise already creates the funniest faux-documentaries out there. If you're going to try and lambaste the manipulative rich, at least know your competition).

I love Regina Hall. "Master," her creepy horror film (about the first Black head of house at a mostly white East Coast University) is one of my favorite films of the year. She is a real chameleon and absolutely the only actor in "Honk" that seems to know what she's doing. Every glance, gesture and half-spoken aside is right on point.

But the rest of the cast (especially Sterling K. Brown and Nicole Beharie) are simply incapable of finding that sweet spot where naturalistic comedy thrives. They're all pushing too hard. And the sudden non-specific camera zooms that (clearly) first-time director Adamma Ebo uses to ham-fistedly remind us that we're watching a 'mockumentary' are just lame. After thirty minutes I got so tired of groaning that I actually had to shut the thing off.

Maybe the movie found its feet in the final hour. If that's the case...my bad. I was intending to review this thing for Art Report Today but there's no way I could 1.) finish watching it and 2.) write a published takedown of a movie that casts so many talented (but sadly misdirected) POC.

I see church folks are dragging this movie! It's not that deep!
loveglow1014 September 2022
This movie was good. Period. Anyone on here bashing it is doing just that. This is like if Greenleaf was a documentary vs a show. You get glimpses into the hypocrisy of this mega church and it's disgraced first family...ala Bishop Eddie Long....hmph. Whoever wrote the script is VERY familiar with prosperity gospel and it shows. Lots of funny moments. Some "Y'all, be for real" moments lol. And some "Oop, that's the true tea" moments. I enjoyed it. I'd even watch it again! Give it a shot. At worst it's a good watch, but a 5 it is not.... UNLESS you are hating or this isn't apart of your culture.

It tries hard
vanlorryjf7 October 2022
I wanted this to work well, in the vain of The eyes of Tammy Faye....which sets a high mark to follow in this religious cynic genre.

It tries very hard indeed to make the grade but sadly its not quite in the league of champions.

The story is good, well put together with a fun storyline and a great cast of very good actors although Sterling does at times look a little red eye Jedi worst for wear in the eye department after his exposure to his preferred poison of choice! That's the problem...it comes together like a bunch of stoners trying to do the Marines combat course. The other troublesome element is the humour where it overtries and pushes the gags where they won't go. Humour needs to be incidental not contrived and arrogant.

I wish the people who made this well for the future as the potential is there to see, their next enterprise will hit all the buttons...jus chill on da weed kids an get disciplined!

Not sure how to feel about this movie
nichelsearobinson-185526 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It was bad yet wasn't good. It seem like Trinity and Curtis-Lee had faith to rebuild their church from a scandal yet they never really said what the scandal was or was afraid to. I found myself trying figure it out until the end but by that time I became uninterested. I wish the story would have just said the scandal rather than dance around it. I know where in a sensitive time where sensitive topic can trigger people but if it's going to have a scandal that is alluring to SA then say it otherwise your wasting the viewers time. I felt like I was going with the flow to figure out what this movie is about and then got to the end to be like okay, that's it?

Quite the Satire, Entertaining enough
bostonct3 September 2022
OK, I know just about nothing about how the evangelical world is perceived and I haven't seen any other movies or even TV programs about it (true or not, or other than your 2-minute preaching/singing clip) but if you accept this as a mockumentary, it really isn't that bad. I think you can enjoy it for what it is; a satire about big ego, greed, power, delusion and denial. Overall, all of the actors are just OK. No real over-the-top performance but acceptable. I can't help but think they missed a great opportunity. Honestly, I think if this had a Madea/Tyler Perry spin to this, it would have been a hit.
