I'm so confused!
kathysoo31 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was ok, mostly for the fact that it was filmed in the actual house where the real haunting took place. The atmosphere was spooky and I liked the first part of the movie. But I was so confused. After the husband told the therapist that they didn't have a daughter named Alice, then why exactly did they move to Savannah? The wife told the therapist it was because their daughter drowned, but if there was no daughter, what was the real reason? And the ending was really disappointing. Once the husband walked into the room of ghosts from the 1800's, it just got really dumb. And we don't even know what happened to the husband and the two kids.

It had potential for a lot more...
paul_haakonsen10 November 2022
Well, the cover for this 2021 horror movie wasn't really screaming - pardon the pun - of overly impressive horror movie. Yet, I still opted to sit down and watch it here late in 2022, as I happened to stumble upon it. Now, I hadn't heard about the movie when I sat down to watch it, so I didn't know what I was in for, aside from it being a horror movie.

I will say that writer and director William Mark McCullough was definitely on to something here, because there was potential in the storyline. However, the narrative was just too slow paced and the movie didn't have enough of exciting things happening to keep it interesting. And that made for a somewhat tedious viewing experience.

The acting performances in "A Savannah Haunting" were good, so it really was a shame that the actors and actresses didn't have a more compelling and exciting script to bring to life on the screen.

Visually then this movie was adequate. It is a movie that makes use of simplistic effects to layer the movie with scares. It works out well enough, but the special effects and practical effects could only do so much to lift up the monotonous and mundane pacing and subpar script.

"A Savannah Haunting" definitely had potential to be a good and proper horror movie, but sadly it was butchered by the pacing and the lack of excitement.

My rating of "A Savannah Haunting" lands on a very generous four out of ten stars.

Got Messed up in the END
nayana-139627 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
In the beginning of the story (according to the story and according to most of the reviews) the family moves to Savannah to forget their daughters grief, their younger daughter, drawn, but in the end, when the mothers psychiatric doctor explain about the daughter's death, the father doesn't know anything about it.. I wonder why such a cliché in a nice story like this?? I wonder why anybody couldn't catch up this piece in the story?? That part ruined all the excitement.sorry to say that but it really did.

But when it comes to the story other than mother, no one knew someone called Alice, but there was stuff in the moving boxes with her name on them so I'm quite confused what was that...

The 10/10 Reviews are FAKE .
honeybloggs-696482 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
In the opening of this film , it says it's 'based' on a true story. In this context it just means that there was paranormal activity in the house .( allegedly) The film is total fiction. None of the events actually happened . The director William Mark McCollouge also owns the house in real life . I'd read about his house before , It's the usual paranormal activities in his house but not dangerous or evil . He just hypes it up imo . I'm now questioning if there was ever any para activity in the house , In this film William also plays a character called William . He's the handy man! Lol!

A family, mother , father , a teenage daughter and a boy of about 7/8 , all move to Savannah from California . The mother Rachel , is weird from the start. She tells her therapist that they moved to Savannah because her 7 year old daughter Alice , drowned in their swimming pool . Her son , Andrew, has friends in the new house , who are ghosts. The daughter ApriL is an introvert . One day a s.exy young woman, Lilleth pops up at her home and seduces April . So suddenly April becomes lesbian and an extrovert ! Lilleth also has a mobile number and texts and calls April and April calls Lilleth too. . One day , Rachel and the kids are at the park and Eric is alone at home in the pool. Suddenly Lilleth turns up topless , wearing a skimpy bikini bottom. She kisses Eric . Eric kisses her back and then comes to his senses and asks her to leave . Later , Lilleth sends Eric a picture of them kissing and threatens to show it to his wife Rachel. We later learn that Lilleth is a ghost from about the 17th Century . So why is she wearing modern clothes when she meets ApriL and Eric? How does Lilleth have a mobile number ? How can she know how to text and use a mobile phone? Lol!

Rachel meets a man called William who repairs her car and who paints , wallpapers and redecorates the spare room in the house.

Eric's work colleague is African American and so his wife . The wife tells Eric to get out of the house as it's haunted and e.vil. The wife's grandma is a psychic . She visits Rachel and tells her about the house being haunted. The script is so bad that nothing makes sense ! It's load of rubbish! Lol! Rachel then becomes possessed . Her acting is so bad that she just looks constipated !

Eric goes to see Rachel's therapist . We then find out that Rachel and Eric did NOT have a daughter who drowned . BUT the couple who lived in the house before them did . Eric rushes to the house . He looks for the children . Rachel says that they're in the basement. Eric goes to the basement . There is the usual jump scare which is not scary,. Other stupid things happen which are not scary . Eric goes into a room in the house and all the ghosts are in their 17th century style clothes including Lilleth We learn William who redecorated the spare room for Rachel is also a ghost ! He was wearing a T-shirt and Jeans when he met Rachel but in the room he's wearing 17th Century style clothes ! William is a r.acist and he hangs Eric for having African American friends .

The next scene is Rachel who is totally crazy and still possessed. She is in a psychiatric prison . Her therapist is asking her where she put the bodies . So the authorities think she killed her family.

This film is just a mish mash of other films. An Annabelle like doll is in it too! They've thrown everything in a pot and mixed it up! It's full of cliches! And we also have the creepy basement , of course! . It was not scary film . It was actually very badly put together . And was just stupid ! The acting by the woman who played Rachel was awful. The expression on her face when she was possessed made me giggle .

The fact that William is a ghost who can redecorate an entire room is ridiculous . And Lilleth can text , call , and send pictures to a Mobile phone is just stupid, Lilleth tried to seduce Eric to break up his marriage but what was the point of Lilleth seducing his daughter April ? Also Rachel was already possessed so there was no point in trying to break up the marriage . Nothing made sense in this film. What a terrible Director !

Derivative Dribble
mlyttle7729 October 2022
I'm sure there are some that will find this movie entertaining and while it wasn't a complete bore, personally, I've seen much better.

There's nothing new here, surprise, that you haven't seen before. It's amazing that these derivative movies continue to get made. Perhaps it's because there will always be an audience regardless of the lack of originality or the hope that this one will finally be different.

These are not spoilers as most viewers will arrive at the same conclusions or be left asking the same questions. Why always a doll and one that won't go away? Is this doll Annabelle's sister? Were the Warrens too busy to check this house out? Could the realtor be sued for not telling the prospective buyers about the homes haunted past? I mean, who would actually buy a home like that if they knew? And what's with the nude pool scene? That seemed so out of place and it really went nowhere. It left me thinking that the writer didn't have a long enough script so he threw that in there to make up the difference.

Act 3 raises the tension bar some but lacks any closure. It leaves us asking more than one question. Not a very satisfying denouement. I've watched other horror movies several times but this one, won't get a second viewing from me.

Cliche
bobby-bryan20 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is absolutely terrible. This has been done so many times...a family moves into old abandoned home, travesty from the past haunts them and it is a fresh start, old voodoo woman gives them a warning of the evils of the house, little boy sees the ghost but no one else can 🙄, the light go out, cell phones battery goes out...blah blah blah. Not one scary scene. Terrible acting and everything is predictable. Do not waste your time on this show. Furthermore, it has a hallmark feel to it and there isn't anything that is actually scary. I feel bad for everyone that was involved in this project.

FAKE REVIEWS!!
kkmgirl-448-1119888 November 2023
This is a hallmark "thriller" packaged as a true story, which it isn't. Capitalizing on a creepy, poorly decorated house in the South does not a horror movie make. Every trope and kitchen sink was thrown in, including a super weird teen lesbian relationship that had no bearing on the story. It just came across as a horny middle aged writer desperate for some young girl on girl porn. Major ick. The storyline was tedious, especially when characters don't behave and respond in rational ways. There's the classic medium character that keeps getting rebuffed, even though a 5 minute conversation would have cleared up everything. And don't get me started on the ending. It tried to channel Amityville but just ended up with a cheesy and incoherent mess. The bloody demon at the end with the cliché stilted walk was ridiculous, much like everything else in this movie. Not sure why a basement door was located in the boys bedroom closet, but sure why not. Funny how no one noticed it until the last 10 minutes of the movie. And we're left not knowing what happened to the family which is a total cop-out, but the mom gets to live as a catatonic humming idiot. Ugh. The 10 star reviews are obviously fake, but were more entertaining to read than this was to watch.

Loads of rubbish
alba860825 September 2023
What a load of rubbish! Absolute pants. Don't waste your time. The lesbian scenes are cringe and laughable. I get more of a fright opening my bills. I was intrigued that it supposedly was filmed in the original house. But that's not enough to endure this. It could have potential but it's all lost on a poor script, direction, acting. There are far many better horror films out there. I fast forwarded the end to put myself out of misery. These 10/10 ratings obviously were watching a different film! I'm unsure how movies like these get produced and who has enough money to waste on producing this drivel.

Not unique but scary
jlsperling8 December 2022
"A Savannah Haunting" may be derivative but it's quite an enjoyable slow burn.

Yes the film is quite derivative; it takes tidbits from all the horror films we've seen before. There's some rough acting in parts too though overall it's decent.

One thing that's nice is the setting. The film is actually filmed where they say. A lot of times Hollywood says the actors are in one place and film 5 states away. The haunted house in Savannah is a good choice.

Where this film succeeded is it takes the suspense built in the first 3/4ths of the film and uses it to plunge into a terrifying ending that concludes with gusto.

Worth a watch for sure for any fans of the genre, and one of the scarier films I've seen in a while.

HORRID MOVIE DO NOT WATCH
nellneaves3 May 2023
Complete joke, This movie was unbearable to watch but I stuck it out to the end to see what happened but NOTHING MADE SENSE. Do not trust these reviews!! They are clearly fake The acting was horrible.

The storyline was pathetic There was nothing scary about this movie whatsoever I actually found myself laughing at how horrible it was hahah I'm a massive horror fan and I will give anything a chance as there's so many hidden gems but THIS WAS NOT!! One of them.

I saw one review compare it to amityville and I wanted to throw my head through a wall.

If I could I would give this movie 0/10 do not waste your time.

Absolutely Terrible, not even Bad fun.
pleasantart29 November 2022
I attempted to watch this train wreck of a film or video I should say. Filmed in the hallmark channel style. I was disappointed and disturbed by the horrific acting, odd camera placement and shoehorned "relationship?", child *olestation scene perpetuated by a trespasser. These unrealistic, questionable situations made for a difficult watch. I is so sad how current 'filmmakers' lack basic storytelling skills. Every story seems to evolve into an opportunity to parade their personal political views. The african american angle was truly awful. The film comes off as nothing more than someone's effort to co-op any and everything 'popular', with millennials, into a mediocre story that fails to inspire anything but disgust and revulsion. So many unanswered questions, so few original ideas. I guess the film was a commercial for people to visit that little southern town? There certainly seems to be a disconnect between what the original vision was? And what someone else wanted to the film to be. The script could have used some more work it seems. And the underage filth could have been left on the cutting room floor. I can't imagine what a film like this could do for the talent involved. I wouldn't think much. A straight to video production at its best.

Its a great story
tracie-612811 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Really pulls you and keeps you there despite plenty to remind you that you are watching a movie. Some of the acting lets it down. Some of the characters are weirdly intense, racist or just rude without anyone challenging their words or behaviour which is strange. The grandmother came in all hostile - again weird behaviour for a first meeting with a stranger likely to be in danger and the story line is sometimes disjointed - like the sulky naive teenager that suddenly indulges in lesbianism with no real lead up to the story line. The grieving family move into a home with the same feature that caused their grief in the first place and the boy comes out with creepy sayings but no one asks him about it. Yet despite all that there's enough redemption in this movie to keep you watching to the very end. Weird but interesting.

Enjoyable But Flawed
RogerOThornhill19593 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As modern horror movies go, A Savannah Haunting is above average,. Although as modern horror movies go, average isn't the highest bar.

The action doesn't rely only on the jump scare the way so many horror movies do. There is a lot of psychological horror too, which certainly makes it more interesting. There are of course similarities to other popular movies, such as the various "haunted doll" movies. In particular it borrows major plot points from The Shining and Psycho. In my opinion the movie navigates this quite well, even if it isn't entirely original. I was particularly impressed with the way aspects of The Shining were incorporated.

(Here are the spoilers) Popular horror movies are big on misdirection and plot twists. Those are understandable and usually fun. However, when the advertising intentionally tells you something that is false, that is going too far. The big "twist" leaves you wondering why they actually moved to Savannah since the reason given in the plot summary is wrong. The movie does answer it, but you have been tricked into believing that explanation was just an excuse to avoid talking about a painful memory. When you go back and think about all that happened in the movie you find that the filmmakers actually navigated the twist extremely well and you are left wondering exactly what was real and what wasn't. If only the plot summary the filmmakers provided wasn't false.

Seen It All Before
cyndiwaugh29 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's all been done in movies before, and this one was boring, to say the least. From the doll, to the dark dank house, to the mother singing Hush Little Baby, I thought I was going to lose my mind! It needed more depth to the characters and to provide a better view and understanding of what happened in the house before they moved in. The neighbors popping by with their little quips about the past and ghosts were too vague and desperate.

I think it should have been done as a documentary. The first and last clips of people telling about their real life experiences in the house were more interesting and attention grabbing than the movie.

A Savannah Haunting: Based on a "True" story
Platypuschow30 April 2024
Plot

A family loses their young daughter in a tragic drowning and moves to Savannah, only to be haunted by her presence in their new home.

Cast

Not familiar with anyone involved but the writer is the director who is a character in the movie and also the person who has allegedly experienced all these paranormal instances.

Verdict

I'm not generally a guy who appreciates ghost themed movies, the reason? They tend to be the most trope laden cliched sub genre of all, and also a one used by those with minimal budgets as they don't require much on screen. A chair falls over by itself, a book falls of a shelf, mysterious noises, it's all very cheap.

Furthermore they often get pretentious and play the "Based on real events" card and I just can't take it seriously. Spoiler alert, no that thing didn't happen grow up. A Savannah Haunting doesn't just play that card, it plays the whole deck an doubles down by being made by the guy it happened to, in the house it supposedly happened and they spouted rhetoric about a haunting on set during production and staff members threatening to leave because of them. Yeah, right.

A Savannah Haunting trips, face plants into every imaginable generic horror trope get's up and goes butt over head back over again with some dreadful quality, mediocre performances and a finale that you will see coming from three continents over.

Rants

I'm going to break this to you gently, rip that bandaid off in one single smooth motion. There are no such things as ghosts, no spectres, no poltergeists, no phantoms, no things that go bump in the night. In the nicest way possible, grow up.

The Good

Considering the budget it wasn't the worst looking

The Bad

Cliche and trope ridden Couldn't be less original Hit and miss cast Very predictable Based on "Real" events in a supernatural movie is just silly.

Haunting Shmaunting - six of one...
There was some potential here for sure and it was lightly entertaining, but know that there is almost zero originality in this one. It felt like an amalgamation of every horror trope and cliché that you've ever seen being used as building blocks to create a generally mediocre film.

Now, while that sounds harsh, this wasn't totally unsuccessful. It held my attention enough and I was intrigued by said potential. I think two things that largely held it back were it's run time and the acting.

This one definitely dragged and I think with some editing and shortening providing for a more concise run, it would've been more successful. Also, the acting was generally unsuccessful and unconvincing. The stilted performances all around were distracting and pulled you out of the story. I think if you are able to look past these two major variables there is potential to be had.

This was mostly sitting at a 4 for me but I think it was recovered a bit largely due to the third act. It ended up becoming a bit more interesting and a bit more spooky. 4.5 rounding up to a 5 and I would only recommend if you have patience and a love for truly indi cinema.

What a gratuitous waste of time!
guardguy6823 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was almost as good as a high school student film! What a waste of time. This movie was poorly written. Seemed like it was written and filmed at the same time! What was even worse was the gratuitous boob scene that was totally unneeded! I have been involved in film making and acting and this was just terrible at best! Being made during the pandemic is no excuse for poor film making! And to boot, it wrangles you in because it uses the buzz words haunting and Savannah! If you know any history, you know Savannah is the most haunted city in the US. Just a bad film! Save yourself from being disappointed!

Dreadful Dreck
Linda19731 March 2024
Amateurish in every aspect, from the awful acting to the cliched events and to the derivative writing...all the way to the embarrassing direction. The only positive thing about this is that it does eventually get to the end credits. But it's an exhausting chore to get there. The creator of this mess is obviously more in awe of himself than anyone else involved or any viewer, and some of his choices are certainly questionable...especially the lesbian scene that comes from nowhere and seems to serve no purpose in being there whatsoever other than to give him some sort of thrill. Seems very icky and sleazy. Avoid this at all costs.

Just the Director's weird fantasy!
michael-edison170128 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
From the family who moved house to escape the pool their daughter died in, moving into a new house with a pool; to the weird lusty, lesbian storyline which went nowhere; through the awfully slow paced first half, to the severely rushed final act, the director had so many ideas, but absolutely no clue how to mesh them all together and make any sense.

I thought the actors were great, seeing as what they had been given to work with was written in crayon, and the atmosphere of the film was pretty creepy, but generally, this film misses the mark on so many levels.

And how much stuff is someone allowed to copy from others before their crayons are taken away?

It's worth a watch, but expect to feel completely unsatisfied once you have.

Very entertaining
faygray-948509 November 2022
I thought it was a really neat idea to make a movie and an actual house where the Director grew up and had paranormal experiences. Although it was a fictional movie based on true events, it was neat to see the actual house and envision what must have happened there over the years.

Horror movies nowadays as a whole seem to not be quite as good as they were a long time ago. This isn't the greatest movie I have ever seen in my life, but I do think it is really good and entertaining. I would watch it again, I also liked when they shared their experiences at the end in the credits.

Definitely worth a watch.

Creepy Suspenseful
akiko-ashley8 November 2022
The film is well done with really cool visual cues. You know when the family shows up to the house, it is not as it appears. Sometimes, I think I see things that no one else sees, making me consider watching the scene again. This is a suspense thriller with many twists letting you feel what the McCullough family felt living there with the spirits of the night. It is definitely worth a watch and will make you see things out of the corner of your eye after seeing the film I am not a horror film type person but this film kept my interest. Zak Bagan you should investigate this house. It is totally creepy.

Wicked slow burn horror
johntaylor-9735531 October 2022
Bottom Line: One of the best slow burn horror films I've seen in decades.

The pacing was kinetic and purposeful. The tension and dread just constantly climbed into an unnerving climax that had my blood pumping. My wife and I were super involved in the story the entire time. It really doesn't let you go.

Now I have to say... This isn't your average horror film with a scene inundated with guts and violence every 5 minutes. This is a sophisticated horror film with multiple interesting characters. So don't come expecting tons of gore.

Another exciting aspect of this film is that it's based on true events. Savannah is incredibly haunted and this film pays homage to the city in its title.

All I can say is, Thank God for something original FINALLY. It's been a while.

An Intellectual Horror Film
JBVanHa3 November 2022
"A Savannah Haunting" is most assuredly an intellectual horror film. Even after the end credits rolled for the first time I found it had already become a part of me much like a real haunting. I have watched it a myriad of times since then and keep going back for more. Like a radiant diamond "A Savannah Haunting" is multi faceted. Not unlike the events on which this film was based there are multiple layers which are constantly being revealed with every viewing.

Having watched "A Savannah Haunting" at least once a day since it's release I still cannot get enough. This film is highly recommended.

Twists and turns
ashleynallen1 November 2022
Not your typical horror film that is just gore and girls. Interesting, smart story line that brings in some of the current issues today. There are great jump scares- one that was really bad and scary. This film kept surprising me with twists and turns. I would think I had it figured out or knew what was coming next but no. The way the film ties it all together at the end is impressive and creative. In addition to the mother being a great actor- the two kids were great. The daughter was so believable and the son was so witty, cute and just a fun personality. The dad is your typical Hollywood hottie. Great film all around.

I really enjoyed it
jeffadkins-991629 November 2022
I think this movie had a great story, overall was really well done. Fascinating that this actual home was built where a plantation one stood. I assume that part was true, I know this is a fictional movie based on true events, and the house is real.

I am a definite believer in the paranormal world. I can't help but think that a lot of the land in Georgia, and down south in general, I have strong spiritual energy given its past. Even though this house itself is not very old, the land it is built on saw terrible things with slavery and the war.

Hearing firsthand from someone who grew up in that house and experience those things was really cool.
