Why make this Australian movie with US accents?

Look. I get it. This Aussie romance is going for the US market. Probably the Hallmarkesque audience. But the poor American accents are getting well and truly in the way of any decent acting. It's just plain weird.

If they'd made this as an Aussie movie with Aussie actors using their natural accents, it might have been relatively charming. But as a huge fan of the Hallmark style formulae romance, for me it this misses the mark. Manly because of the dodgy accents. It just feels odd.

Fun to watch but not very unique

As a non-native English speakers I didn't even noticed that they were Australian until I saw the reviews here. Ok, the accent of the grandfather was a bit off but rather then that I didn't noticed. It was easy to watch feel good movie, but indeed as most of you also said it had a lot of cliche moments. It reminded me of many other romantic comedies. Overall we still enjoyed watching it and considering the fact it was shot during corona times it was not too bad.

I'll stay right in the middle of the vicious '1' reviews and the gushy '10' reviews, minus 1 for the accents and corny drama.

My title says enough for my opinion, but I will add that many of the tropical background scenes appeared to be fake. They reminded me of the technology offered by Zoom to enhance the background on video calls.

It seemed like the director was obsessed with impeccably ironed clothing - even when the leads were meant to be in "casual" beach gear, they looked like they were wearing sparkly new clothes. In one scene, the lead actor was wiping his boat clean in perfect, neatly pressed shirt, matching shorts and a crisp white T-shirt on. Not a speck of dirt. Just like an Omo ad.

Dreadful, predictable script.

Thank goodness for the beautiful coastline though.

The scenery makes this film worth watching with finger on fast forward button - advance to the underwater sceneries which are stunning. Great cinematography. Forget the rest.

This film is so bad that I made an acct here just to review. The plot is completely generic - not even a single twist or surprise or anything. The acting is as atrocious as the American accents. While the scenery is beautiful, it's ruined by a weird yellow tint applied during editing that makes that actors look jaundiced. Truly the worst film I've ever laid eyes on.

I really don't understand why people watch these movies knowing that they wouldn't like it when it really wasn't that bad. Then they give it a low rating. If you don't like movies like this- don't watch them. The first thing that came to my mind was that it was something you would see on the Hallmark Channel and not Netflix.

I don't understand why anyone would watch a Romance movie knowing they aren't going to like it, or be overly critical. The low ratings come from them. I didn't mind this movie at all. It's not meant to be a great movie, but light entertainment. Not sure what the big deal with the accent was. Just watch it for its entertainment factor.

This movie is awful. So awful that I felt bothered enough to reset the password of this account so I could write a review.

I wasn't expecting much, but this really surprised me (badly). The chemistry is totally off between the actors, the acting is horrible, like really horrible. There is absolutely nothing unique about this movie, it's another cliche. The only nice thing about this is the scenario that is pretty, but besides that, there is absolutely nothing good about it.

I don't know why but the main character make up bothered me so much. They didn't even care to make her makeup look more natural for the sleeping scene. I mean who sleeps wearing a full face of make up? Even eyeshadow?!

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate cliché, but this movie wasn't able to pull it off.

Easy movie for romantic evening

This romantic comedy can be classified in the list of 45 awesome love comedies for girls. The film is shot under the cliché of similar films, it will give your brain a rest and help create a romantic mood. The film is very easy and funny for couples in love to watch.

I must admit that rom-coms are a guilty pleasure of mine. Not that I watch a lot, but sometimes I'm just in the mood for it.

Some are actually very good. Those are the ones where they used some of the budget on good actors and decent writers.

And then there are those like this one, where the only requirement for the actors seems to be that they are good looking.

He has a good smile, which he shows a lot combined with a square jaw and a fashionable stubble.

She is pretty enough in a bland sort of way, and both are mediocre actors and the chemistry between them is one of these "the script says so" things.

The story is the same as in 100s of these movies. Big city executive returns to her roots and finds true love and purpose in life.

And that's pretty much it. Not really worth anybody's time or money.

IT'S A ROMANTIC COMEDY!!! With all the clichés, so what?

It has good music, AMAZING photography.

I was expecting Aussie accents, thou, which weren't there.

One of the actresses looks like Nicole Kidman!!

Give it a shot.

Feel good, easy romcom.

Lots of people compelled to leave a 1 star review who seemed surprised that this movie was exactly what one would expect - it's just a feel-good romcom. Great scenery, sun, colourful and yes, a somewhat cheesy romcom plot. In other words, precisely what the trailer promised. If you need some escapism, where no one gets shot or assaulted, contracts a deadly disease or has to deal with anything more traumatic than a splinter, then yes, you'll enjoy this movie.

...but that's the only thing good about this film. The plot is contrived (Hallmark can do better) and the acting is atrocious. Couldn't get past the first 30 minutes...but now I really want to vacation in Australia.

Please don't believe any of the good reviews! They are either Netflix Trolls or relatives of the producers or actors. Poor script, poor acting, completely predictable and ridiculously poor filters on the outdoor scenes. Don't waste your time!

This was SO BAD I had to watch it till the end

Ever watch a movie that was so, so bad that you just watched it till the end? Well this is THAT kind of movie. What a joke!

First of all the acting was terrible. The main 2 actors were too old to be playing this 'cute' type of characters that made the story line unreal.

The best part of the movie was the scenery which was stunning, but was ruined by the orange filters that made all actors look orange.

And the most entertainment you will get out of this movie is actually reading the reviews. This was a TERRIBLE movie.... YUCK!

Actors Saskia and Liam so boring no personality no spontaneous at all.

Liam reminds you of a younger Richard Chamberlain just as dull. Where does Hallmark find such boring actors and actresses?

Beautiful scenery just need more excitement better casting.

TOTALLY PREDICTABLE

This is an Australian film but almost all of the main characters speak with an American accent... The story is well worn and every scene is predictable. Twice near the finale we have some dreadful day- for- night cinematography whereby the scenes take place at night but there are blue skies and white clouds in the sky. It looked dreadful and cheapened the film for me. Strictly a film to watch when you are totally bored with nothing else to watch. Great scenery and a good looking cast but that is all.

Palm Cove, Cairns, is the real star of this film and steals the show from start to finish.

Saw a reviewer below call it a zoom backdrop...

Nope. That's Far North Queensland, Australia for you! Sublime. The light and tropical beauty is all 100% authentic to that part of the world.

The only downsides to this is that is very apparent when "overseas" scenes do take place (nope, still Cairns!) and the abundance of American accents is off putting when this is such an Aussie setting. Would love to have seen authenticity fully embraced!

Overall, this is a lovely, romantic movie with a truly dreamy setting that is firmly in the G rating, no need to worry about kids around while playing!

She won the coconut contest, meaning he had to read the papers she brought. So why did he have to make her go on adventures in order to read each page ? She won! He lost. Seems straight forward to me, but it was ignored.

Totally predictable and shallow. Also think the main actors were too old for their roles.

Something that really annoyed me was to see her with lipsticks even when waking up in the middle of the night or leaving the ocean... So unrealistic!

Entertaining movie

Yes, a basic romance movie, but a well acted storyline that deserves to be watched and enjoyed. The location for the shoot was quite beautiful, and it enhanced the movie. There are reviews that blast the movie as boring and badly acted, but I just did not see that. I enjoyed the movie, and while I do watch romance movies, I most definitely don't find most of them engaging enough to enjoy. That was not the case here.

Australians pretending to be American

Australian film industry the only film industry that makes movies pretending to be Americans. No one believes they're American especially Americans.

America doesn't make fake Australian movies or the uk.

Typical hallmark type romance movie that would have changed immensely if it was ser in Australia with Australians.

This movie was trying to be "another Hallmark Movie." But, it's so bad that I only watched 20 minutes and that's a stretch as I was doing other stuff. Not worth the time.
