Cute but Cringe
niseynisey28 December 2021
Cute but Cringe. Cute little stories for tweens and younger with good messages but some very bad acting. It also feels low budget; Shocked this is a Disney original.

Entertaining, But....
dragana116 October 2021
I really enjoy most shows/movies from R. L. Stine's works. And, from the trailers, this seemed to me a solidly entertaining watch (especially in October, which is when I tend to seek fresh scary content). When actually watching the show, however, what they were actually trying to do became less clear.

Let me explain. Each episode seems to have some sort of moral behind it. I can accept this because, at the end of the day, this series is aimed at teenagers. And in some episodes, namely "My Monster" and "The Treehouse", the moral is really well integrated into the story. And there were moments that actually got me scared.

But, there are episodes where the moral is more of a weakness than a strength. "Unfiltered" and "Stand Up for Yourself" were a little too preachy with their morals, to the point where anything truly scary is buried for the sake of that moral.

This is not to say that its a bad thing for these episodes to have morals. Honestly, these are morals that are important things for kids to learn. Some, like "Parents are from Mars, Kids are from Venus" and "Unfiltered" have fairly cliche morals about accepting your parents for who they are and accepting your own body, but some morals are about moving on from an ended friendship, anxiety, and even grieving the loss of a loved one.

Morals aside, I found myself genuinely enjoying most of the episodes of this series. The special effects were surprisingly good for a Disney + show, the kid's acting was mostly good (great in some places), and there were some genuinely disturbing and/or scary moments.

Bottom line, if you like R. L. Stine and can deal with a moral-driven story, then this show is worth checking out. "My Monster" is my favorite episode of the series, with "We've Got Spirits, Yes We Do" being a close second (as it seems to have the spirit (pun intended) of a classic Goosebumps book). All in all, it's worth a try!

loved it a teen spectacular mystery stories

Just Beyond

8 halfhour epeisodes, pleasant to watch them. Remind me like another ''Twilight zone'' but teen version .

Just Beyond has the same vibe as Goosebumps.

Just Beyond is a light-hearted series that explores the mysteries of the paranormal. The series is based on Stine's novel. While there are stories that you can expect to see in any typical haunted house/ghost story, Stine does a great job of mixing logic with the stories told. While this might not be enough for older viewers, it is perfect for kids getting their first taste of the paranormal.

The stories are great for children, and adults will love them too! The series is filled with twists, turns, thrills and chills. It is not your typical paranormal show which makes it appealing to any viewer whether you like cartoons or live-action shows. These stories will make you think about what might be going on around you during the Halloween season.

Exploring the Fantastical Realms of 'Just Beyond': A Whimsical Adventure for All Ages
ahmetcanerkara-6253624 March 2024
"Just Beyond" is a 2021 TV series that blends elements of fantasy, adventure, and mystery into an enjoyable watch for audiences of all ages. With a rating of 7/10, the show manages to deliver an entertaining experience while also leaving some room for improvement in certain areas.

The series, based on the graphic novels by R. L. Stine, follows a group of middle school students as they encounter supernatural occurrences and explore mysterious realms. Each episode presents a unique story with different characters, settings, and fantastical elements, adding variety and keeping the audience engaged.

One of the strengths of "Just Beyond" is its ability to capture the essence of classic storytelling infused with modern twists. The show balances humor, suspense, and heartwarming moments, making it appealing to both younger viewers and adults. The diverse cast of characters brings different perspectives and backgrounds to the forefront, contributing to the show's relatability and inclusivity.

Visually, "Just Beyond" presents imaginative worlds and creative creature designs that add to the overall charm of the series. The special effects and production values are decent, considering the show's target audience and genre.

However, despite its positive aspects, "Just Beyond" may suffer from occasional predictability in plotlines and character arcs. Some episodes follow familiar tropes common in fantasy and adventure genres, which may lessen the impact for viewers seeking more innovative storytelling.

Overall, "Just Beyond" succeeds in delivering entertaining and family-friendly content with its mix of supernatural elements and relatable character dynamics. While it may not break new ground in terms of storytelling, its imaginative concepts and engaging episodes make it a worthwhile watch, especially for fans of R. L. Stine's works or those looking for light-hearted fantasy adventures.

In conclusion, "Just Beyond" earns its 7/10 rating by offering a fun and accessible viewing experience that combines mystery, humor, and fantastical elements in a way that resonates with audiences across different age groups.

Good for kids
gehriquentin31 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It was honestly a really good show, not scary at all just a little bit mysterious. I love the aliens episode I did not see the cliffhanger so it was cool.

I did not really love the episode about the girl changing her body because the resolution looked like so easy, like finding her « teacher » house and juste breaking everything if it was this easy every girls that were trapped by the « teacher » would have do that before.

But it was honestly cool, if you have some kids and you want to get in a Halloween, spooky mood ! It's a good show, every episode will make them learn something about life !

Pure cringe
sharkoucan4 November 2021
The 'stories' are definitely cringeworthy if you are not a 9 year old. The acting overall is just embarassing especially in episode 3.

I can see how it inherited the goosebumps series, since it definitely give me the goosebumps(awkward, embarrassed kind of goosebumps).

Oozes goosebumps nostalgia
jking-j13 October 2021
Slick and creepy - had a very goosebumps feel in a modern setting. Throw in a little black mirror (for a younger audience) and you have a pretty decent tv show

Some good performances from young actors.

Teenage black mirror
mmevanille-5309724 October 2021
Simple, short, cheesy small stories based on tried and true premises. Everything feels 'Disney' but sometimes that's not a bad thing, well performed, decent scripts avoiding many dialog clichés. They do drown you in family values and friendship tropes but that's just Disney.

Good for teens, not really for adults. So should be rated with this in mind.

Maybe intended for teenagers
educatexan17 October 2021
I assume this was created for young teenagers. It's the typical all-adults-are-stupid and all-teenagers-know-everything stories. However, I would think it's too sophisticated for teens to pick up on subtle themes.

Embarassing! Forbidden to OVER 13.
verbal_66618 October 2021
Definitely embarrassing! Of course, something stank already to see the Disney brand, but i never thought of being in front of a children's show. To throw away, or at most for your 6-year-old children. But if you want them to grow well, and do not fool, always better The Twilight Zone. Forbidden to adults!!!

To Much left out to make sense
tgilmer-756543 November 2021
I get that they are supposed to be short, but they would've been better as either longer episodes or seperate movies. So many things left unexplained had me struggling to keep up. I love Goosebumps, and have read the whole series. This was not like Goosebumps. Which Witch would have made a wonderful movie, and I hate to see the potential story wasted.

Amazing Stories for teenagers
DarkVulcan2915 October 2021
I believe what Goosebumps was to The Twilight Zone, Just Beyond is too Amazing Stories, and both written by R. L. Stine.

The series is light , but never gets too family friendly, does have it's creepy moments, but never goes too far. But I only watched the first two episodes. Performances are not too bad, even by Nasim Pedrad who gives off an enjoyable creepy vibe has her character.

Just Beyond Awful
jonclynch28 February 2022
Cheap, dull, unoriginal, won't appeal to anyone over 9 years old. Absolutely cringe worthy. By the third episode you wonder why they bothered. My kids gave up halfway through episode 3. I defy anyone with taste to get further.

Nonsensical Stories.
iaingking25 December 2021
The stories are nothing new and have all been done better along the way by other shows, these may just about appeal to kids of ten and below, the acting is pretty dire too.

I'm not sure why the Disney brand would make this kind of Cringe, but i guess all the big hitters are making so much to fill their channel, you will end up with rsome rubbish along the way!

1990s meets 2021 to absolute perfection!
justiceme-4346215 October 2021
Perfect example "consequence horror" in 8 episodes.

It reminds me of many TV shows from So Weird, Goosebumps, Twilight Zone, Wizards of Waverly Place, and who knows what else.

Its the perfect blend of entertainment and "wokeness" or really moral.

I hope this gets enough love for a second season then a third.

Just cringe
GhostHearts15 July 2022
This would be better if Disney hadn't made it. R. L Stein wouldn't had done something cheesy like a warming ending, it didn't have that thrill your would usually have.

I like the episodes. Perfect for all ages. I just wish the episodes were longer. The first one could be a movie. I don't know why people complain as if it's real life. It's a show.

Entertaining for Team 90s too!
anilakygt14 October 2021
I'm 31 and a 90s fanatic and love anything related to RL Stein. I thought this would suck because modern anything sucks nowadays especially on Disney but this is enjoyable.

Giving it a 10 because reviewers here will be harsh and judgmental just like with everything else. I would give it a 8 two points just because they could have made the atmosphere and settings more nostalgic.

Quite the joy
fruktoosi13 October 2021
Much like "Amazing stories" miniseries by apple, "Just Beyond" hits a different kind of an audience and has some takes that can be critically viewed but at the same time be easily related to. The dialogue is fluent and the characters feel authentic, even though some traits are pretty pronounced. Acting is quite good and the screenplay in each episode is pretty solid. Especially after watching what Squid Game had to offer in it's unwatchable screenplay, story and dialogue. The stories were kept short, which at first bothered me but short stories can't really make into full +40 min episodes. Is it thrilling? Could be more. Is it unique? Somewhat. Is it a joy to watch? I'd say so.

The points made were and will be something that hit today's ideologies and worldviews and will divide a lot of the audience. Nevertheless I think the younger and older audiences will find something to relate to. Boycotting Disney, feeling that viewers are being "manipulated" by "leftist" propaganda, having a different political agenda and quite simply feeling offended will make a critically bad response happen after watching the first episode. I find it quite hilarious though how butthurt something so small can affect an opinion when trying to keep a review objective.

Would recommend. Maybe not watch again. Did binge.

Loved it!
benceman-9401216 October 2021
I didn't really see much wholeness that some people have talked about. If there was it was subtle enough for me me to not notice or care. Totally felt like I was watching modern day Goosebumps! I got thrown back into my 90's childhood. We'll done!

Refreshing ideologies free short stories.

Good tales, to have a hassle free fun time. Suitable for all the family, very rare to see these days where almost every show is full of violence, sex and emptyness.

Fantasy Fun and Family Friendly!
cxpchgtc19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This series was one of the best I have seen for some time. I especially liked the second episode, "Parents are from Mars, Kids are from Venus." If only all the expected family confrontations when growing up could be solved as easily and as Lovingly as this was. Riki Lindhome and Tim Heidecker as Bonnie and Dale, the loving parents of growing teenage son Jack, were both Excellent as they strived to connect with their son; Dale tried through awkward Father-Dad talks, and Bonnie made the hilarious attempt to use "slang" to reach Her obviously embarrassed Son. And Bonnie's use of Her "odd" protuberances to snag a Dorito along with the others was surprisingly amazing!!!
