One of the Finest Moments in Television History
GundersonRocks30 December 2008
Incredible. "House's Head" (the episode prior to this one) was the buildup, establishing a surreal, emotional approach never before seen on "House." THIS is the payoff. Save for some episodes of "The Shield", I have never witnessed a more deeply felt and powerful episode on television EVER. It will take a whole lot of effort for the writers to top themselves on this one. "Wilson's Heart" could have easily become sentimental and clichéd, but it looks too deep and sees too much honest pain. We are finally able to see that House is not a monster, that his misery extends far past his leg injury. We can finally look into his soul and see a resonating sadness and loneliness surrounded by a lifetime of pain. This is a masterpiece.

Amazing... I can barely find words.

After watching this episode I did not know how to feel. It was probably the best and worst moment in any TV-show that I've ever seen. I just sat silently, listening to the music with tears falling from my eyes, the fact that i cried for the first time in five years almost shocked me more than the ending.

The characters in this show have never felt more alive than after this episode, and I can't wait to see more - Nothing can compare to this show when it comes to the actors skill, the script and the ability for the show to really affect you a deeper way than you thought possible.

I love this show and will continue watching it for as long as it airs.

Wilson's heart

Warning: Spoilers
This episode leaves you speechless. Everything in it was great. I would never expected such an excellent piece of work when I started watching the episode.

The character of Wilson has never been so deep like in this finale. His desperation from the beginning to the end...it was such realistic. It makes you cry.

Amber, that character that everyone hated when the season began, now she moves you. Her final minutes with Wilson are terrific.

I think the scene that touch me the most was when Cuddy enters Wilson's office, and tells him to wake Amber up for a last moment with her. "Wake her up to tell her that...", Wilson says, and he breaks down in tears.

And you have never seen House such emotional. But he's not the leading character. Not this time. Wilson and Amber took his place. And they took our hearts.

You could hear a pin drop in our house. And that NEVER happens.

Family TV night always includes House, MD. Luckily with TIVO we can re-wind whenever someone in the family inevitably blabs commentary out during the show.

We never had to touch the TIVO while this episode played out. Everyone kept their pie holes shut and that's saying quiet a lot when you have teenagers about you.

The quiet held until the very end of the show, and for several minutes afterward. That just doesn't happen in our boisterous family.

In the silence, my husband and I held each other for a long time. Only fantastic theater can grab and hold you like that. TV just doesn't get better.

Warning: Spoilers
*** WARNING!!! *** SPOILERS!!! *** ----- this episode of house was probably one of the best episodes i've seen. seeing house cry, seeing house unite with others (Wilson) for once, seeing him place his life on the line for his friend. watching the team scurry. it was almost as if the characters were right in front of me, in real life, looking desperately for an answer. i have never been so in awe and so depressed on any episode of house. this was so sad yet so rich and full of amazing feelings! it nearly brought my husband to tears as well! i think for me the two touching scenes for me were when house realized that there was nothing they could do to save amber due to the medicine overdose she didn't know she had. that part, seeing house cry, seeing Wilson's heart wrench, and then house seizing! wow. and the other scene is probably the obvious, "last feeling/goodbye" scene between amber and Wilson. you feel so bad for Wilson because he's finally truly happy in a relationship and as much as i thought amber was annoying, i thought she was good for him. and then to see him have to turn the machines off holding the one he loves, ack! so heart wrenching. it made me want to hold onto my husband forever! what a great episode!

I was crying long after this episode ended. ME! I never cry; my friends call me the "ice queen." I just couldn't stop thinking about it. The last scene with Wilson and Amber...then the note when he gets home...ugh! Later, when my boyfriend got home, I was trying to describe it to him, and I couldn't even talk because I just kept crying...I kept trying to tell him, "I kept thinking, 'What if that was me and you..'" Ack, I'm getting teary just thinking about it now! And, oh, Dr. House....if you need any consolation...;')...giggle...all in all, it's not very often I'm glued to the set. Excellent performances by all. Can't wait for next season!

What more does anybody want from a TV series ?
dimmorthem11 June 2011
I tried finding something wrong with this episode. I could have, but I wouldn't have been objective. It was extremely moving. Wilson's Heart is simply touching, and probably the best House episode, if not the best TV series episode ever. It is puzzling, mysterious, romantic, realistic, tough. It doesn't let you pause and guarantees a tearful hour. Could not ask for better acting, and in no other episode has Wilson been the most important character, showing a very sensitive and touching side of him. You have to appreciate a character like Wilson, being invented almost opposite to House, however being able to face him. This series reflects perfectly the most important side of both House and Wilson's characteristics: House's Head, Wilson's Heart. Simply wonderful !

Simply brilliant !
jdhb-768-6123415 August 2019
This episode, and the previous one, are two of the best pieces of television ever made. They are tense and dramatic, poignant and oh so sad. I defy anyone not to be moved by the final scenes.

All of the performances are exceptional, the script and direction superb. We see a different side of House as he struggles to find the answer and, for once, shows genuine concern for another human being, or is he really more worried about what the outcome will mean for himself ?

It doesn't matter. These 2 episodes are simply brilliant.

Warning: Spoilers
I have always enjoyed this show. I just started watching it again from the beginning and I have to say, this is THE most heartfelt episode in the series. I've never felt more for the characters. It's always refreshing when House stops acting like a self-centered child (which is always VERY entertaining) and becomes human for just a moment. I can't tell you how sorry I feel for House, given the circumstances. It hurts to see that Amber went to do him a favor and ended up paying for it with her life. But, how much blame can you put on House? Anyways, I really enjoyed this episode and cried all the way through the last 5 minutes.

I hope this show goes on for many years to come!

"Wilson's Heart" (#4.16)
aaronredis28 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode ruined me. And so did the previous.

People say House doesn't care, and while he may hide behind wise cracks and criticisms and while he may use them as a "wall around the heart," that doesn't mean he doesn't care. He does. A lot. That might even mean he cares more than most.

In fact, he cares so much he would sacrifice his LIFE, and yet I still believe his friendship with Wilson will be the price to pay. While I acknowledge Wilson's feelings, I must also say that it is vital for Wilson to see how much House truly cares. He asked so much of House, it's only fair that he could at least see that this hurts him, too.

The use of flashbacks could have easily been a mess, but it wasn't. It was clever and only added to the powerful nature of this episode, as it helped piece the details together like House did. At times, we felt frustrated and perplexed, just like House did. It was emotionally taxing and draining, just as it should have been. It was powerful and a true work of art.

On other news, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat, and I was moved. This was one of television's best episodes. It was heartbreaking, really. This one will certainly forever hold a special place in my heart. I am amazed.

I give "Wilson's Heart" a 9.9/10.

Warning: Spoilers
No words can describe how intense this episode was. How perfect the acting was, just flawless and epic. I haven't cried in seven years, and watching this episode i used a whole new bolt of kitchen paper towel. The sacrifice House made without much hesitation shocked me, and the way Robert Sean Leonard did his acting struck me straight into my heart. it's been 15 minutes, and i cant stop feeling like a part of me died.

I newer had a girlfriend, and yet now i think i know how it feels to lose one you really love.

By far the most intense thing i have ever seen.

Disappointing
ctomvelu-120 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
HOUSE MD's fourth season went out with a whimper, not a bang. The team tries to save the badly injured Amber (see last week), and tempers explode. Amber is clearly beyond saving, but they can't help poking and prodding and cutting and -- well, you know how they are. Wilson and House are united at first on procedure but then find themselves miles apart. The only logical voice heard is Foreman's, and they choose to ignore him. House manages to tick off everyone, and eventually almost dies trying to save Amber. So what else is new? Wilson is worth watching, but the rest of the show is pretty dreadful. The second part of a two-part season finale, "Wilson's Heart" was much sound and fury signifying nothing. Too bad.

Perspective - may contain spoiler
brsmarc29 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
In reading the current set of reviews for this episode I can only think of the words of Anton Ego in Ratatouille, when asked what he wants for dinner - he says: "I think I'll have a plate of perspective".

What everyone needs in respect to this finale is a plate of perspective.

Aside from the lead up in melodrama and overwrought story lines, the only conclusion one can draw is that these House viewers have overly romanticize the characters and their interpersonal relationships. In the span of just a few episodes Amber goes from being the universally hated Cut throat B**ch to some sort of metaphor akin to Albert Schweitzer. Suddnely her spots change from "by any means necessary" to "I want you to buy the bed you want" and apparently simply because House has a moment of "weakness" when he negotiates playtime with her for Wilson. The reality is that the only thing that changed about her was what the writers chose as the path to get rid of her. Her sweetest/sappiest moment in her appearances? Easy standing bedside next to the recovering patience at the end of "Games"...the moment? when the patient asks why she's still there (after learning she was fired) and her answer? "trying not to care" Please! Give me a break. This is such a fill in the blank moment that I have to believe Anne Dudek must have had to choke those words out.

Scanning some of these pathetic reviews embedded with words and phrases like: "Amazing", "The house was silent", "Best television in history" truly typifies the low level of literacy from viewers of network TV (yes, I am in fact a part of that watching the DVD version).

The crux of what this episode should have been about is how we learn more about House, Wilson and their relationship. Amber is the literary vessel that flows through. And in that respect, what is her contribution to that relationship (in her dialogue on the bus)? It's the equivalent of "go back and hug it out". Again - PLEASE, how ridiculous!!

Amber/CB certainly could have been an interesting character, but that would have taken much longer to develop and clearly she wasn't interesting enough to the writers. Ergo, kill her.

House's Head and Wilson's heart ultimately end up being more of an effort to figure out how to end a season. It would have been as useful to have Terry Gilliam's animate a huge foot that comes down on Princeton Plainsboro and squash it...and at least that would have been "funny".

For the suspicious out there, I am a fan of House and most of the characters. But the reality is that without Hugh Laurie this is a forgettable and even more melodramatic soap opera. With him, there are great moments. Maybe Season 5 will pick up the slack.

I've never felt so compelled to write my views on a show in my life I actually had tears come to my eyes I had to laugh it off (at myself) when in reality all that happened was I had an emotional response I've never felt before towards a TV show of fictional characters was because i have never before seen such fantastic writing and character portrayed over 42 minute episode... This episode is absolutely fantastic and absolute MUST WATCH! So many layers and hidden depths in this show I love it!!! I can't get enough of it... But this episode has by far been a stand out for me so far I am truly lost for words at my response to the ending of the series. I'm shocked!

Warning: Spoilers
I my self must say that this ending has really taken its place in my heart. Though sad for what happens as I did hope for a better outcome for certain individuals.

**SPOILERS below!!!** Not sure if I've ever cried so much in a series before... Specally not for Amber thats been a real b****. Guess I felt for both Wilson and Amber. Really! Wonder where everyone will pick up in S.5? Wonder if House will blame himself and go even further to close people out, will House ever forgive himself as it seams that he blames himself for what happened. Will Wilson ever be fine again, will he forgive House? As it looked right at the ending when he stands looking over House... That he blames Gregory for Ambers death. Questions and even more questions.

This episode blows your mind off your head, and tears your heart apart
fidelleon6 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER FROM THE START.

No cynicism. No plays. Not being impersonal. Not in this episode. No place to rude behavior. It's personal. Heck, it can't be more personal.

It doesn't care you have a very severe skull fracture. It doesn't care you have had a cardiac arrest because a drug overdose. Oh, well, we recover you for a moment and get a memorable oniric scene with Cuddy! You volunteer for direct brain stimulation. You repeat not once but twice and three times the overdoses. Your ear bleeds because the skull fracture extends, and you ignore it, so you go to take a bath to concentrate. You get personal and ignore medical evidences. Nothing is enough to help you friend. Guilt? Responsibility? Friendship? I'm sure the later.

And when all is lost, YOU CRY. YOU. And finally you collapse. What a finale. No solution for the case, no solution FOR YOU.

And finally we have your confession: you don't want to feel pain, you don't want to feel excluded, you don't want to feel guilty against Wilson... You want to be dead. Or have your brain turned off.

But you want to be alive more than to be dead, so you step off the bus.

And can you find anything harder than explaining your loving one her symptoms and knowing she will understand she will die in minutes?

And please, remember Thirteen's Huntintong's diagnose is MORTAL in the long term.

Just keeps blowing my mind away
emotionalcripple12 June 2008
I can safely say that House is one of the best T.V shows there ever was. This episode is by far the best, besides 'No Reason'. It was full of mystery, doubt and a great mix of emotions beyond your imagination. Luckily I watched it on my computer, so lets say I watched it more than once especially the ending. Just make sure you have soda and everything you'll need next to you, and that you emptied your bladder before even thinking about watchin that episode, coz you wouldn't dare get up in the middle of the show. Trust me! This shows keeps getting better, it just keeps blowing my mind away. Keep up the good job! Finally I can proudly say I watch TV series and I'm not an airhead!

Courageous... bold... and devastating.
DannyP8831 January 2019
Simply put, some of the finest acting, writing, set design and directing that you will ever see in a TV show is contained in this episode. But more than that, it took real courage for the creators of this show to take this series in this direction. No spoilers, but I had to remind myself a few times after the credits rolled that this is just fiction, so my heart would stop breaking. I just let out another deep breath, if you know what I mean.

Wilson's heart at the cost of House's Head or vice versa
sam_avb13 September 2014
I agree with all the comments that have been written before me. It is such a fantastic episode that made me so emotional and involved with the characters. This episode was very touching and heart breaking. I was moved to tears while I was watching it and even after the ending. It is so hard not to relate to House or Amber. Wilson was fantastic too. He was so natural. But I hated him for a moment. And you will know which moment it was once you see this episode. House is not a monster or a jerk. He is the REAL friend who will do anything for friendship. What he does? again watch this fantastic episode. This episode will highlight why House is not just House but he is more human than any one ever imagined before in previous episodes. Actions define a person. There are lot of moments in House series where he displays those wonderful qualities. He doesn't have time for idiots. House proves what a wonderful and adorable person he is. Wilson on the other hand shows why we can hate him too. And why he will always be second to House in heart. I just hope I don't get to see some uncomfortable episodes in next season between Wilson and House. I really don't want this TV series to take the predictable path making it a downhill. This was one of the fantastic and brilliant sequel to the previous one. House head is clean, Wilson's heart isn't. Once you watch the episode you will understand everything. It is a must-watch finale. Terrific final episode for the season 4.

Television doesn't get better than this
phillyphanatic2515 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This was just on again the other day, and I forgot how emotional it was. The events of the previous episode (House's Head) unfold at the perfect times, slowly revealing the events of what happened. The bus crash is almost poetry in motion, turning chaos into a breathtaking sequence between Amber and House. The ending leaves you speechless. I think we can almost all relate to it. One simple errand changes everyone's life, and reveals how fragile life can be. I'll admit, I cried. Pretty hard, too. The characters just seem so real. Their feelings and thoughts seem real. This is one emotional ride, and the finale of season 4 might have represented the best of the show.

very moving episode

Warning: Spoilers
first time in my life i have ever cried about a movie or series ever! this was THE most moving episode of House ever. i really feel sorry for Wilson, but also for House because indirectly, Amber's accident is partly his fault.. and this will change House' relationship with Wilson. also, in the last minutes of this episode Wilson finds a note from Amber saying she's sorry she's not there... it must've been Horrible (with a capital H) to be reminded of her accident that way :(( anyway, House is the best series i've ever seen and i recommend it to everyone! usually i'm very critical at rating something, but this episode has fully earned my 10 out of 10 rating.

Not a regular House episode by far
jknousak7 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The reviews about how great this episode is are way out there for me.

The result of House's Head did not need 42 minutes of story time a la Wilson's Heart. The former episode was well crafted, suspenseful and true to the nature of the show we've viewed for 4 seasons/years.

Wilson's heart is . . . not there for me. No way to change a hated driven character known as CrazyBitch for so many episodes to One who is (i) loved (Wilson), (ii) regretted/guilted (House), and cared about (rest of characters). I never liked the character or the actress playing it and cannot figure out how they made Wilson -- who had 3 wives so must have been In Love before -- fall for such a person. Not realistic and certainly not true to the original premise of the show. House is beyond major development at his age -- a theme drummed into us over and over and over again over four years. I suspect they will attempt it -- a House "do-over" of character in the next season. Boo.

And then House crying and feeling guilty as though the whole thing were his fault somehow -- which is how they decided to end it, too. So, it ain't over folks.

As for Thirteen . . . now that test result was out of Left Field and . . . is sad. Thankfully, we won't be around in 10 years to see her demise. I like that character!

Drunken Jerk Kills Best Friends' Girl
Johnny_West25 August 2021
Not much you can say about this episode. Amber was a major jerk character, and she died because she was at a bar to pick up drunken jerk House. It is a totally ridiculous story, just for the sake of drama.

Why would Amber leave her home in the middle of the night to pick up someone she despises? Normal people would have called House a taxi cab to go pick him up, or a car service. House, Wilson, and Amber are doctors and could afford a car service.

The actual accident is even more ridiculous. The bus driver had some kind of aneurism, and his bus goes out of control and a garbage truck crashes into the bus. How many times has that ever happened?

As Wilson said later, "Nobody liked Amber, nobody is sad that she died." Good riddance.
