Not bad but no Spinning Out
naomimuldrew278 April 2021
It's not a bad show. Deccent enough storyline but I can't believe Spinning Out was cancelled and they made this! Spinning Out was an amazing show and I am still gutted they aren't making more of it.

Nobody looks like a 15 year old in this show .
saudaminikulkarni17 March 2021
This show makes no sense . It's like the writers borrowed scenes from Ice Princess and Spinning Out and made a show that has characters that no one cares about , uninspired choreography and a really ill fitting soundtrack. Don't expect much from this.

Fun, easy and lots of ice!
aprilhatcher16 March 2021
A Hockey and Figure skating drama, what's not to love! Yes, it's a bit strange to come from Canada to the UK for an ice sport. But it's a fiction drama! So chill out. He came because a famous hockey player has an academy that could make is career. Plus the mum is British so it's helps the story!

It's also nice to see filming done not in London. But at the home of the Steelers in Sheffield.

Overall easy and fun watch with normal teen drama and angst.

Netflix Canceled Spinning Out and made this...
stig_of_the_dump221 March 2021
Everything about this show is cheap and tacky. Poor acting, script and directing. It's sad that Netflix canceled Spinning Out which was fantastic and the ice skating was a high standard and then release this cheap imitation

Good storyline
Jap09019 March 2021
Good storyline, terrible acting, and one thing is certain NO way a great hockey player from Canada is moving away from Canada. This part of the show makes no sense.

What were the writers thinking ?
primmer-0135815 March 2021
I really don't know if the writers of this show have any idea about the UK and Ice Hockey because why would someone with a budding Ice Hockey career move from one of the World's best countries for Ice Hockey - to the UK - where we don't really give a damn about the sport !

Anyone who is any good at Ice Hockey in the UK - moves to the US or Canada - not the other way around. Also Hockey scholarships are not a thing in the UK. Sports scholarships are very rare.

They could have made more sense by having the parents move to the UK for work and having the children adapt their hobbies to the UK - but i guess that is too much common sense for these writers !

Entertaining for the target audience!
7yk7no719 March 2021
I think Zero Chill is a great show with enough drama to keep the target audience (kids/young teens) interested.

Though I am out of the intended audience bracket, I was engaged enough to watch the whole series, in the company of younger family members. The acting of the main cast was surprisingly quite subtle and touching in moments, which was nice to see - especially in moments where other kid/teen series have fallen flat or been overdone. I really enjoyed the performances of Ava, Jacob, Bear, and Mac.

The series was also able to show tension without the threat of physical violence and though my adult brain did cringe at certain moments, as a kid I would have loved the humour.

Overall, I think it's unfair for 45-year-old adults to rate a show negatively when they are clearly not the target audience. You have to remember, the characters are 15 YEARS OLD - at that age, everything feels like the end of the world. So I think it was completely valid for (i.e) Mac to be angry about balloons...

Needs more hockey and less teen angst
callum_no720 March 2021
Title sums it up really. Watchable enough and good to show that hockey does actually exist outside of North America but could have done more to highlight British ice hockey

Terrible
jematt1317 March 2021
I'm on episode 4 and so far the only watchable scenes are with Kayla and/or Sky. Terribly written. Like Mac getting so upset about some balloons? The parents not supporting Kayla and basically making it seem like she'll never make it, so why bother. It just seemed so farfetched. It felt like the parents didn't even want her to skate as a hobby.

Rated G
rademacheralyssa17 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The show definitely has a few plot holes/unlikely plotlines, but it is Rated G, meaning it was intended for KIDS and FAMILIES. With that understanding, it's a really sweet show that shows the figure skating life compared to the hockey life. I would be happy to see a season 2 to see how they further develop the characters. Also curious if they give Kayla a love interest. (I was a little surprised/impressed that we didn't see that already. Props to the writers for just letting the girl have fun!)

Fun!
lijzaah27 March 2021
I have to admit, I'm not a fan of any sport, so starting this I was hesitant, but I really enjoyed it! Some of the characters could be annoying sometimes, but overall it was definitely worth it!

Lowkey bad but kinda addictive
alexaalevonn25 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
First of all the acting was a big no. Some of them aren't that bad but it could use some work. Sometimes the stuff they say or the way they show how it's interpreted into a scene doesn't make sense, it's honestly confusing. Although the skating and hockey is really satisfying to watch and skye is honestly so sweet. Mac definitely has some problems but I'm glad the writers chose THEM to develop a relationship, You never see that in tv shows. It's always the prom Queen Brittany or the " quirky girl." It was simple but really cute. Overall this show has its problems but I Atcaully really like most of the cast. This may not be for adults and probably not teens but mid teen or children.

They chose this instead of Spinning Out?
HQeeee321 March 2021
Another skating show on Netflix that will probably be cancelled after one season. I don't understand why they would start a new skating show when they could have just continued Spinning Out. Not as interesting of characters either. It is also hard to invest when Netflix will probably cancel and start another show that is almost the same next year.

An okay show
mailingheg30 March 2021
If you take the show as a cute family/teen-ie bopper it's cute If you look at the figure skating and hockey elements it's very lack luster. The customers they use for the figure skating scenes, even just during practice are ridiculous they never talk the rules n regs of hockey or figure...seem to just make up their own

But that aside is a cute show hope if they move forward they fix some of these errors.

Oh no!
simphoniebennett30 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Firstly why was this show created when we already had a far superior skating show with "Spinning Out"

Now for my review:

The show is god awful, the acting sucks, the plot sucks. The show starts with this brother and sister already moved to England. There is very little in way of reasons. The family is from Canada are you telling me the best hockey school is in the UK? Also the whole show doesn't even show the school only the hockey. Mac (the brother) is a horrible person. He thinks he is better then his whole team and doesn't need them. When they try to joke around and haze him he flips out. It's like he doesn't even want to be a part of a team. And yes his career aspirations kinda depend on it. Next on to the sister Kayla. She complains that her parents don't care about her dreams. But she hasn't actually voiced what those are? She wants to skate with her partner from Canada but not to enter competitions? Like whaaaattttt. He wants to win, wants to go onto the Olympics and she just wants what? To have fun???? None of the characters have any development. We don't know any of there actual back stories. Like the whole show is very very shallow, by that I mean it has NO DEPTH. Like apparently the dad might have been a professional hockey player before? But like where, what team etc. It's all just so ridiculous. And it's as if the show has no idea how competitions in skating actually work? Like you're gonna tell me that a partnership that has never competed at any level before is gonna be able to compete? Haven't gotten to that episode yet but am assuming they do good. Honestly if this show continues to a second season it's gonna be really disappointing because spinning out was so amazing and got the axe. Le sigh.

Amazing and Original Show! Don't listen to the critics.
product_keary66_zf5 July 2021
This show is not Spinning Out, so stop complaining. This show is totally different and original, for those who complain, I want to tell you that Spinning Out was not cancelled to make this show.

Also this is a show that, unlike Spinning Out, is for an audience such as children and families mainly, so do not criticize if it is childish.

Another thing that bothers me a lot is that you guys, complain that they moved from Canada to the UK to play hockey. I understand that Canada's sport is ice hockey, but do you think there are no good teams in the UK? Anyway, Mac had a very good opportunity, and that's why he left, thanks to his talent.

On the other hand, the actors are very good, an entertaining plot with drama, and what struck me the most was that it breaks with stereotypes, and I think that's something that this show knew how to do very well.

I hope we get season 2 soon.

Not terrible - Light fluff
skpn12313 April 2021
I can see the bitterness of the reviewers comparing this production with "spinning Out' but aside from ice and skates there is nothing similar about the two LOL.

My biggest issues were the irritating shallow characters and lack of character development. They were as silly and self-centered at the end as at the beginning.

That said, I found it an easy watch and I enjoyed the skating. There were a lot of worthy themes that with a better script and better Direction could have led to a superior series. As it stands, it is solidly but enjoyably simple mediocre escapist fare. It was good to watch while I was working on the side.

If you don't know hockey or figuring skating ok
jpkunc17 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So the hockey team has a play book that ruins all their plays... hockey doesn't work that way it isn't Football. Players don't come off the ice for the entire game unless coach says... Not even close to true. 45 sec shifts to a min and switch. Then he moved to UK to be seen... they should have made this movie about soccer and then that would be believable. Horrible acting... but then again might just be the writers and giving them very bad scripts. Don't waste your time watching this, you'll be disappointed

A Movie for Teenagers
soneagu21 March 2021
This is not a teenager movie targeted on adults, to teach them how to deal with an actual teenager. It is a movie for teenagers. How do I know it (I'm not a teenager)? It's full of nonsensical everything, from hilarious gestures and attitudes that are from another world to hallucinatory dramas and to a theme that makes you laugh to the tears (a high school super hockey player that does not get a scholarship on the North American continent, but on ... England!!).

Most of the adults will be angry while watching it, but the movie makes sense and is fun for lots of 8-13 years old kids.

Zero Thrill !
redx17081 April 2021
So Netflix decided to cancel Spinning out which was actually a decent show and replace it with this piece of garbage. Those who gives it good ratings defend it by "this is a show for kids". So I guess it's ok to produce a crappy show as long as it's "just for kids". The acting sucks and the writers obviously didn't know anything about hockey or figure skating for that matter. It might have made just a bit of sense if they had switched the roles as the UK have produced some big names in figure skating (Torville & Dean, Robin Cousins, John Curry), but hockey is not a big deal there, and if a former Swedish star player wanted to start a hockey academy in Europe, he would probably pick a country where hockey was big like .......Sweden maybe ?

Just wondering why they cancel a show that would rate 6 maybe even 7 and replace it with something several levels beneath it. But then Netflix certainly moves in mysterious ways.

Not Oscar material but cute
jfxfxz4 July 2021
The plot is unoriginal and way too predictable. The acting is mediocre at best. The end result? If you like hockey and figure skating: surprisingly enjoyable.

BRING BACK "SPINNING OUT"
dbella-525568 June 2021
Seriously, we lost "Spinning Out" for THIS?

I'm honestly rethinking my Netflix subscription now.

Like, don't insult my intelligence OR my sport with this joke of a show.

As an ACTUAL figure skater I must say watching this was pretty painful.

The premise makes ZERO sense (pun intended).

No offense to the UK but ice sports is not their strong suit.

An NHL prospect would not leave CANADA to train in the UK!

Clearly the writers didn't do their homework.

As for the figure skating...ugh, smh.

First off, I'm utterly confused by "Kayla's" choice of costumes for practice wear.

Not only are they god-awful, but it's a total mockery of our sport.

*CONTINUITY ERROR: S1, E1*. Note to the producers: real figure skaters are watching and we WILL notice how the main character's figure skates change from scene to scene. One minute "Kayla" is wearing Edea Ice Fly boots (impressive) and the next, those pretty silver heels turn a dull brown as she's clearly sporting a pair of recreational skates. Did you really think we wouldn't notice that Kayla takes the ice in boots shining with Swarovski crystals and then exits the ice with dull brown-heeled floppy skates? There are several other things wrong with casting this actress as a figure skater, but I'm gonna be nice.

COME ON! If you're gonna make a series about figure skating, you've at least gotta try!!!

***SCREAMING*** BRING BACK "SPINNING OUT"!
