Interesting approach on the vampire genre...
paul_haakonsen2 January 2022
I was immediately drawn in by the cover/poster for the 2021 horror comedy movie "Red Snow" as I stumbled upon it here in 2022. Had I heard about the movie prior to sitting down to watch it? No. Did I even know what it was about? No. It hardly mattered, as a horror comedy with vampires that I hadn't already seen, I needed no persuation to sit down and watch what writer and director Sean Nichols Lynch had in store.

The storyline was actually fair enough. Now, it has enough contents to support a single viewing, but I doubt that it can do more than just that. For me, personally, then this is not a movie that I will be returning to watch for a second time.

"Red Snow" is a fun approach on the vampire genre, and on that account then writer and director Sean Nichols Lynch certainly managed to come up with something unique enough to stand out.

The movie was nicely carried by lead actress Dennice Cisneros (playing Olivia) and Nico Bellamy (playing Luke). In addition, the movie also had the likes of Laura Kennon (playing Jackie) and Vernon Wells (playing Julius) on the cast list.

Visually then "Red Snow" was actually good. Now, hold your horses, because "Red Snow" is not a movie that was heavy on special effects, and as such, not really dependent on having great special effects. Whatever special effects that were used in the movie, however, were doing their job to the letter.

I am rating "Red Snow" a five out of ten stars.

JUST OKAY - (5 stars out of 10)
BJG-Reviews6 December 2021
The stage curtains open ...

This film seems to be a bit mistimed, but the intentions are noble and the approach still feels fresh. I don't typically jump into an obvious low budget film like this, but from what I had read about it, my interest was piqued, so I decided to give it a chance. Surprise, suprise! It wasn't half bad, and besides, it was fun to see Vernon Wells (now in his 70's) still kicking and delivering lines. I remember him from WAY back in the day when he used to play slightly over-the-top bad guys in movies like "Commando" and "Fortress".

Our story picks up when a vampire/romance novelist, named Olivia, retreats to a family cabin at Lake Tahoe to work on her latest project. She isn't well-reviewed and has doubts about continuing on when a bat suddenly slams into the window, startling her. She gathers it up, puts it in a box out in the garage and wakes up the next morning to find that it has changed into a vampire. Injured, and weak, he is at her mercy. She nurses him back to health using pig's blood and in return, he allows himself to be interviewed to get the facts straight for her new novel. However, some of his friends come calling, and things begin to get messy.

I was a bit surprised with "Red Snow". For being so low budget, the production values seemed high. It was well shot and edited, and newcomer Dennice Cisneros handled her role fairly well, though a bit stilted at times. The interaction between our two main characters, Olivia and Luke, is the compelling nature of this film. To me though, what really makes this film work is Nico Bellamy (Luke). More than any of the others, he seemed to be the most invested into his character.

"Red Snow" is a black comedy that knows not to take itself too seriously, and subtlely deals with other subject matters such as tropes, sexual politics, and perspective. The dialogue, for the most part, is witty and intelligent. I found it amusing in parts and it garnished a smile or two, but even so, it does not come at a high recommend. The intended affect of the ending fell a little short with me. When it is all said and done, a vampire is still a vampire. 5 stars out of 10.

Capturing The Christmas Horror Vampire Market.
meddlecore19 December 2021
Not going to lie, with all the Christmas horror-hype these days, it's pretty clever to get out ahead of the game and capture that Christmas vampire market.

Considering such, this film stands out from most of the other more recent Christmas horror films, not only because of it's original angle...but also because it is a mostly competent film.

In it, we find ourselves following a fledgling vampire romance novelist, on Christmas...just as she is about to have a life altering experience....after a bat crashes into her back window.

She takes the bat in, with plans on rehabilitating it...but- to her luck- it turns out to be an real live actual vampire.

Smitten by her newfound fate, she not only takes the injured vampire in...but even acts to protect him from a renown vampire hunter, who has been hot on his trail.

Though, of course she also uses the oppourtunity to learn more about the "rules" that apply to vampires...and get him to critique her book.

However, not everything is as peachy keen as it seems...because when the injured man reacquaints with his two friends...they kick the poor woman to the curb, and take over her house.

So, she's left to fend for herself...and fight for what's rightfully hers.

The whole thing is tinged with an air of dark humour...particularly the ending...which has a clever twist.

And there is a decent amount of gore!

Which is why it is such a fresh and refreshing Christmas horror that is worth enjoying this holiday season.

5.5 out of 10.

I wanted to like this movie!!!
tman-2128929 December 2021
I really did! The dialogue was good and the acting was okay but how can you have a movie called "Red Snow" with practically no violence!?!?? Forget about the cover art as it's pointless to the movie! This shouldn't be in the horror genre as it's more comedy/love interest than anything else.

I will however say that the ending is cute. (Not spoiling it, just saying.)

If you like watching home made video.....
deafo8 December 2021
Acting are poor with terrible direction from their director. It is probably for their relatives and friends to watch for fun. If you don't mind watching home made quality movie, enjoy.

Warning: Spoilers
Even the one star rating was way too much, bad doesn't even begin to describe this garbage...

Turned it off after the mini-bandage for a bat, that Olivia should have been killed in the first 5 seconds.

Lovely unconventional Christmas movie. Forget vampire movies and watch this one as soon as possible.
frank-liesenborgs14 December 2021
"Red Snow" is the Christmas-vampire and comedy-horror film you will have to add to your list of movies to watch. The movie is based on the vampire-obsessed wannabe novelist Olivia Romo (Denicce Cisneros) who chooses to spend Christmas alone in her deceased mother's Lake Tahoe cabin. The film uses the Lake Tahoe setting which is also a nice Christmas setting. You will see a comedy that is redefining the vampire world, by criticizing the rules set out before. This movie tries to bring the vampire legacy into reality and to my opinion it worked out. I am not a fan of vampire movies but this story is so different. The acting of the two leads Dennice Cisneros (Olivia) and Nico Bellamy (Luke) plays out perfectly. Just awesome! The interaction between these two and the dialogues is just marvellous. The comedy comes from seeing how Olivia must react to each situation. "Red Snow" accomplish in making a vampire movie that is not really all about vampires and blood-shed. This movie is completely underrated and is definitely a must see, even when you are not into this genre of movie.

This is embarrassingly bad.
mistermansfield4 January 2022
The Academy Award for the worst performance in a movie goes to Dennice Cisneros. Dennice, I am no actor, but subtlety seems to work for other actors. Your expressions are too exaggerated. Your acting needs way more work. I was embarrassed for you.

The plot was fairly original just not very well executed. Perhaps we can lay this fault at the feet of the writer and the director. Someone should have told Dennice she looks ridiculous.

Luke, on the other hand, was fine. The only performance that was slightly believable.

Overall, give this mess a huge miss. I mean get a passport and fly through international air space to get around if necessary. Just awful. Cringeworthy.

Vampire comedy that have a charm to it.
I do think this is a pretty interesting type of vampire movie that I have seen. The story is unique with a struggling vampire romance novelist encountering a vampire who slowly forms a relationship with each other. The movie reminds me of Night of the Living Deb where the movie has the charm to it with its characters and the humor it presented here. I like how causal the main character is with her meeting the vampire and building a relationship with him throughout. And I like the scene where he helps her with the novel that she writing about. Also, things get violent later in the movie which will please any horror fans. And the ending is something that I didn't expect.

The comedy itself is a hit or miss with a couple of funny lines or moments from the characters. The funniest scene in the movie is where he helps her with her novel and giving out advice to her and some of the dialogue is pretty funny.

Low budget bad acting
jstonetransport27 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Such bad agting.

Lead actress spoils the whole movie with acting.

I dont know why people create such low budget nonsense. Male vampire acting is good and would of been completely different with another female actress.

Fantastic!
akira-hideyo12 December 2021
Both leads carried this dark comedy well. It has shaDes and vibes of what we do in the shadows, though a tinge less polished, but nevertheless, very enjoyable with a great story line. Kooky lady with a hot vamp seducer, what can go wrong? Expectant sequel would be a nice bonus to a silly Vamp romCom. Just do it...Grrr Blood, blood! ,.. Can I please have some more please ?

Sorry, there is nothing "average" about this film
A_Different_Drummer7 December 2021
Reading the External Reviews on IMDb hooked me. The reviews were all over the map. That is unusual. And very curious. So I checked it out. The story is very Stephen Kingy, with lots of little twists and turns to keep everyone interested right to the last scene. Some of the dialog (not all, but SOME) is razor sharp and funny. Especially the bit about the poor genocided Candy Elves. For a low budget indie, the production values are sharp and the acting above average. The film has already won some awards in the horror niche. Best of all it holds the interest which, as I keep pointing out in my 1700+ reviews, is what film is supposed to be about. Could easily find a cult following. Deserves one.

Come on Hammer !
silverbulletshot-5979111 December 2023
What a absolutely horrible way to re-launch Hammer. This film was incredibly predictable. It wasn't funny. It wasn't enjoyable. It was just plain dumb and juvenile. My goodness, Twilight is an Oscar winner compared to this. Vampires that can walk around in the day. Bah! Dennice Cisneros' acting was good. Not stellar but hey they take their ques from the director. Nico Bellamy as the GQ Cover vampire was pathetically hammed up Edward Ewell was solid. Had some good funny dialog. Too bad he wasn't in it more. Good acting chops there. Too many attempts to make me feel anything for the characters as there was zero character development. The less said about the one liner catch phrase the better.

Awful
seraph6613 December 2022
I've seen better movies for a school project, this must have had a $1K budget, if that and it shows. Now that isn't always a bad thing, plenty of movies have been good despite being cheaply made. This is not one of those movies. It's very stiff, unfunny, uninteresting and wosrt of all, it goes exactly the way you'd expect, leaving zero pay off and zero reward for suffering through it. I kept watching hoping something redeeming would happen, but the ending is obvious from miles away, and the overall effort is weak. One minor note that it's not a Christmas movie, it simply takes place during Christmas, which also added nothing to the film.

Okay for a B-movie, just don't expect scary moments.
deloudelouvain23 February 2023
The only reason I watched Red Snow was because it took place in Lake Tahoe, a place that I know very well as my wife is orginally from Reno. A lovely place with stunning views where I only have positive memories of. I do like horror movies as well but even though this movie is about vampires it's not really a horror movie. The acting wasn't bad, certainly not for a B-movie, because a B-movie it definitely is, it just shows. I don't regret watching it as I was entertained but would I watch it again or would I recommend it to someone else? No, certainly not, not even to people from Lake Tahoe as it could have been filmed anywhere else.

It has sumpin, sumpin
asmithee237 December 2022
It's cute and quirky. The acting ranges from decent to not but the production value, primarily the cabin and christmas decorations, add to the better than average rating. Is it Shakespeare? No. Frankly, it isn't even at a Lifetime channel movie level but the female has an endearing charm and handles the comedic aspect well. There is some gore, enough that I took a preventative eye closing just in case guts went a flyin'. Would I watch it again? Yeah, sure, maybe once more but not more than that. Kudos to the writers for that clever ending. And now a random sentence for the required characters.

Wikkid_Gamez31 January 2022
While it is definitely a solid B movie that doesn't mean its a bad movie... I found it amusing and light hearted in a slightly twisted way. I would watch it again.

Fun Little B Movie if You like Your Horror with a Dash of Comedy
rebeltaz-1870511 September 2022
When a vampire romance novelist meets the real deal, wackiness is sure to ensue. Not a LOT of wackiness, mind you, but there are some funny bits. Being a B movie, obviously don't go into it expecting standard hollywood overproduction. But at least the scenes are well lit (contrary to the norm in hollywood), the actors aren't over the top or just phoning in their lines, and the story is free from any social or political agenda.

The lead actress reminds me of Shelly Duvall. For those of you too young to know her, she was the original Olive Oil in the live action "Popeye" movie.

If you like vampires movies and have a sense of humor, you might just enjoy this one.

B - Movie
gab-6759911 December 2021
This movie had some charm if you like low budget movie where the whole movie rests on the acting. There were a few times I laughed so it was not all that bad. If you just looking to pass time than you could find way worse movies out there to do it with.

You have to watch one hour of bad to get to 20-30 minutes of entertaining aspects of the film
kevin_robbins19 March 2023
Red Snow (2021) is a movie that I recently watched on Prime that tells the tale of a struggling vampire author who runs into the real thing in Salt Lake City while on a Christmas getaway. She accidentally saves a vampire from a vampire hunter, so he agrees to works with her to improve her writing. Their problem is that might not be the last vampire hunter due for a visit.

This movie is written and directed by Sean Nichols Lynch (Prep School) and stars Dennice Cisneros (A Thousand Junkies), Nico Bellamy, Laura Kennon (The Diary of a Teenage Girl) and Edward Ewell (The Lepers).

The storyline, writing and acting is very average and there isn't much going on for most of this movie. However, the attacking and biting scenes were solid and the final battle of Jackie versus the vampires was better than I anticipated. The problem is you have to watch one hour of bad to get to 20-30 minutes of entertaining aspects of the film.

Overall, this is an average addition to the horror genre. I would score this a 5.5/10 and recommend seeing it once.

Low budget but way more entertaining than I thought it would be
Catocala7 November 2023
This is a hard movie to rate stars for. If it weren't fun, I would flunk it on account of some cringy scenes and the lack of horror. It's not all that scary, but more of a dark comedy. If you're like me and you would watch just about any vampire movie out there, then definitely don't skip this one!

I was surprised, it was actually funny! And it just had a certain charm. The two main characters both do a very good job and are a key part of what makes the script and thus the movie work. It has some cliché tropes, but mainly as a frame for the funny dialogues and it has some small twists to make up for it.

I like the sense of humor, but if you don't like comedy vamps (e.g. "what we do in the shadows") then this movie might not be for you.

It is original and did a very good job with the low budget I expect it had.

It was a lot funnier than I thought it would be.
AJsok200318 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So I guess Amazon Prime learns people's likes in movies. For my case I enjoy humor, romance, horror. This is a very funny movie. I never thought I would enjoy a cheap budget horror/comedy movie. But I am learning to open my choices in movies.

In this case I would call this movie about Vampire Author turned vampire slayer the modern and smart version. In which is more funny and corny. And to be honest I was very surprised that the script was actually really good. And the acting was spot on to where it was very believable.

I am very surprised that I never heard of this movie. I kind of wished that it played in movie theaters in the USA.
