The Kids in the Hall are still edgy
lambiepie-218 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
These were my 90s Kids. HBO late Friday nights...then to late night network TV. Edgy, funny, strange, and often crossing that red line, and once crossed, you're wondering - what the heck was that?!

This type of humor entertains me. Won't be for everyone. It did when I was younger and still does now. I missed the Kids In The Hall troupe; glad to see them - and some of my favorite characters made appearances (love you, Buddy Cole!), but some of the new sketches had me in stitches.

And the opening robber sketch - all I can say is for 59-61-year-old men--THANK YOU, Dave and Kevin! My telephone number is...(lol!!!) Brave, brave, brave, and stupid-funny. Another funny sketch was the male strippers. I didn't want to laugh because it was sad to think of overall, but these guys made it work. That's what I love about their skits.

The Shakespeare skit was disgustingly-amazing - a new line they crossed effectively well. And the 70s Apocalyptic DJ skits started funny but ended sadly. What a range for Dave Foley.

Not all sketches were over the top funny for me, but there was so much in the six episodes I binged on those didn't matter. And I like that they too made fun of each other.

I don't know how long this KITH will run, but I'll keep seeing my favorite characters squishing heads, the Brain Candy execs, and Paul Bellini (I still love seeing him!). As a big KITH fan, thanks for "selling your souls to Amazon." Good to see you all one more time, still edgy, still silly, still the Kids In The Hall.

Can I get a "bawk"?

Shakespeare

I remember the show in the 90s. I remember seeing them on tour in the 2000s and I was surprised how happy I was to see them back.

It's rude, it's bizarre but it's authentic Canadian humour and I missed it terribly.

The Shakespeare sketch hits on so many levels you have to see it to believe it.

A hit out of the park!

Original Canadiana with hints of Monty Python. Hilarious. Ignore the low ratings, put aside your puffy airs and enjoy. "In Oshawa auto workers and strippers are in the same union". Funny as hell. Was never a fan of the originals...30 fricken years ago! Liking this so far. The "last fax" scene is great "I like sleeping with couriers because they come fast"...lol. Lighten up and enjoy.

I'm Squishing Your Head

They're back! I watched them when I was a kid... like them. Now I'm old... like them. The stripper sketch was painfully realistic (gravity really does a number on the nards).

It's the kids! They're older, cranky and taking full advantage of premium video by being a wee bit dirtier. Hearing their opening theme music makes me so happy.

Thank you for this one, Prime. You brought a smile to my oft cranky face.

Hysterically Funny!
rebel513 May 2022
If you thought there was a chance these guys would mellow with age, you're sadly mistaken. This is probably the edgiest material the Kids have ever done. Fan favorite characters are back along with all-new over-the-top creations. No one does surreal comedy like these guys. If you're not easily offended and won't fall to pieces over politically incorrect humor, this is for you!

So happy to be back with friends

Their ability to skewer without offending. Their honest and refreshing look at the world. I missed them. And they are back - still as fresh and irreverent as ever.

As hilarious and weird as ever
bregund2 August 2022
I must have watched all the episodes of the original series a dozen times each back in the day, the chicken lady, crushing your head, thirty helens agree, kathy with a k, etc. In this reboot the guys have lost none of their comic timing, characterizations, or ability to work as an ensemble to push their absurdly strange brand of comedy. Finally I have something good to watch again. I could go on and on about each of the guys' well-honed idiosyncrasies, but no one can get as quietly offended as Mark McKinney whenever he's dealing with someone difficult, like when the restaurant patron refers to a dessert as a "pie". The expression on his face is priceless.

People are saying just for the fans? Im from uk and have a but if a warped, dark sense of humour. Ive never seen the original so can't comment, but i was in stitches at some scenes with 2022 series! One of the most surreal sketch shows ever, and i loved it!!! Im difficult to please humour wise, critical...but i just cant get over this sketch show. Watched all in one sitting...i was confused, couldnt take my eyes off the guys...it was amazing lol. I hope they release more series ..8 episodes are not enough. Ive got to watch all again incase i missed anything. It was also a delight to see 2 older men jumping up and down naked haha...absolutely hatstand!

Finally

Absolute best thing on Prime. Every sketch is great except for maybe the "friends of kids in the hall" cameo sketches. It blows SNL out of the water. Hopefully looking forward to another season!

I've got a brand new pair of roller-skates...
vanstonejason29 May 2022
Lmfao!! This was such a treat. They kept to their original style and it was such a blast. A couple sketches were kinda bland, but that's ok. Everyone has their opinions.

It made me miss watching the 90's series.

rrtiverton25 May 2022
Oh, Dear God! This show is BRILLIANT!! I forgot how edgy it was back in the 90's; now on Amazon, the gloves have come off. Well produced, well written, well staged, deep, dark humor. There is so much packed into each episode!

Thank you, Amazon Prime, for resurrecting this troupe!

Where's cabbage head and the chicken lady
fopfopfop22 May 2022
This new version is mixed as is most sketch comedy. Some old favorites have been back, but not all (I've watched 8 episodes). Worth watching if a fan of sketch, they are still funny. But just like all sketch for every one that makes someone spit milk out their nose someone else is scratching their head in confusion. Hope to see some chicken lady before it's over. Glad there was a crushing your head though.

It's kinda like Buddy's Wish
rpatrickvelez24 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was a teen when the original show aired and watched the first episode looking for the goods. I smiled a few times but felt mostly sad. I imagine the show needs to find it's stride; after all it's been a while.

Episode 2 was smarter and better written; although I wouldn't say it was hilarious the way some of the old sketches were...the imaginary friend bit was absurdly entertaining.

The Buddy sketch kinda sums it up-- we wish we could go back and it's the way it used to be-- too bad we don't all get our wish.

Production values are excellent, but some of the old charm is lost in this slicked up version. It's a little jarring to see so many extras used in some scenes.

I am especially glad the guys have the show but I'm not sure if I'll finish the season.

The great return!
ebmilkyway14 May 2022
Only 8 episodes made for the return season? I loved the show during my early teens and got so excited to see that they'll be returning with new sketches. If you never watched their original run, I recommend you check it out while we wait for the next season. Really good to see them return.

The show will give ya headache...
asifakberali18 May 2022
..if you're like me who gets a headache from laughing too hard. I can't believe I already finished the Season 01. Now, God knows how long I have to wait until I can laugh out out again. :(

I thought 'Just for Laugh Gags' was the funniest thing in Canada, but this show proved me wrong. It's hilarious on a whole new level. The cast, their getups, little skits--all so funny!

It is not wrong to say that Amazon did invest into something great. And, I hope it keeps doing it. I am on to the older The Kids in the Hall now.

A MUST WATCH if you want to LAUGH!

Talent lives on
ksdilauri22 May 2022
New versions of old hits are always chancy, but these guys have lost none of their comedy skills whatsoever. Except for some physical aging, they're just as effective-and hysterically funny-as they were umpteen years ago.

Loses a point for its "updated" profanity, though. Some people will undoubtedly get their knickers in a twist at this (good) but the Kids don't need F-bombs, graphic language or nudity in their skits. Yeah, it's common these days, yadda yadda, but it's still unnecessary and offensive to a lot of folks. These guys are skilled and plenty funny. They don't have to sink in the sewer to get laughs, as lesser talents do.

A little more riské, still really silly and makes me laugh out loud. The nudity was shocking but hysterical! Love that this is allowed on Amazon.

Proud of the creativity of this Canadian group!

Are you easily offended? This show is not for you.
ottleyjam13 May 2022
I LOVED it!

Rude, crude, and lewd. Crass, in really bad taste, but hilarious.

Not for everyone, if you're an old KITH fan you will eat this up!

Still pushing the boundaries of comedy.

I really hope there's a season 2, fingers crossed.

They guys are back !
OliveNymph15 May 2022
I really loved it. They had enough nods to the old series and Brain Candy to delight fans. It was great revisiting popular characters too. I can't really see people who aren't familiar with the original getting as much out of it, but if you remember and loved this style of humor it'll make you smile and laugh.

Thank goodness, the Kids are BACK!!! (and so is Bellini)
UNOhwen20 August 2022
I know I'm not alone in my love of this group. I followed them on CBC, and in concert, and saw Brain Candy (which I thought was funny), and their last get-together, Death Comes to Town.

I only found out about this new series by accident, and I'm SO happy.

A big question I've thought about over the last decade is the fearfulness these so-called SJWs have inflicted, and it makes for the death of comedy, or more accurately, the silencing of anyone who doesn't thi k like they do.

Over the past few decades, the idiotic 'social justice' iidiots, who are MORE prone to censorship than any iron curtain natios have become the self-annointed arbiters of what's 'allowable'.

The days of being able to make fun of things and NOT worry have disappeared. If he were just starting out today, Lenny Bruce wouldn't need to worry about those group who silenced him in the 60s, instead, he'd be silenced by the very side who stood UP for him, back then.

When I saw a (pre-series launch) interview with the Kids o (CBC's) The National, though I was thrilled to see them all together, the inteciew only nauseated me because, if anything, free speech in a democracy IS what a democracy stands for, yet, the SJWs of the two nations of North America seem to want to crush it, and when I saw host, Ian Hanomansing talking how much of was was 'allowable' then, isn't.

As an example, Ian turned to Scott, who's Buddy Cole was easily the most outspoken, subversive character on the original series, and while tacitly summarising Scott as being the 'gay' one (which Scott is, and has no qualms about), and then says how when they (The National) went to pick a clip of buddy Cole's, they (The National) found "...there's nothing from a Buddy Cole skit satirising racial stereotypes that we (CBC) felt we could play now', and all they show was a few seconds ('... it reminds me of something Yoko Ono said to Malcolm X...'.) with NO context as to WHY he's saying what he's saying.

That's pathetic.

If anyone were to be 'offended' now, it's people like me, who are OFFENDED by such paranoia , a very sad indicator of how backwards Western democracies society's become - IN JUST a few decades.

I know I'm not alone being thrilled to have the Kids back, but, it terrifies me any HINT of either censorship, or people (or, in this case, a network) WORRYING that 'someone' MIGHT find something offencive.

In fact, the ones media should realty be worried about... offending are people like me, who are OFFENDED by such paranoia.

That's something everyone needs to understand - that (mostly) the very young, and young adults, who were inculcated with this victimhood ideology are being pandered to, and the actual adults - of all races, creeds and colours are being ostracised.

Above Average
coles_notes7 June 2022
The kids are back but is it good? Kinda.? The sketches are considerably higher budget and production value, but that make sense with Amazon money behind the new series. No laugh tracks this time around, the sketches are fairly good, although considerably more nudity involved in this series, and like most sketch shows they're good if even 1 out of 5 sketches results in a real laugh. Out of the 8 new episodes there were a couple moments I let out an audible laugh, enough to be worth watching but you'll only love if you're a diehard fan of the original who wants the nostalgia. The random celebrity cameos talking about how much they liked Kids in the Hall each episode also really missed the mark for me. These guys are unfortunately past their prime, but prime is all that would have them.

Missed these guys soooooo much! Brilliant masters of humour ❤❤❤
janetra13 May 2022
I agree with all the rave reviews, I was mesmerized within the first few mins of the 1st episode.

Ridiculous, mind bending comedy that I loved as a kid when it was rated G.

Appreciate it even more now that it's rated 18+ 😈

older and more nude
SnoopyStyle2 July 2022
All five kids have returned for a revival of the 90's cult show. Even Bellini has returned. Everybody is older. David and Kevin going full frontal is shocking. It's almost a nod to pushing the envelope. These are five white male Canadians and the question becomes what's new to do. It's also interesting that not all of their most iconic characters are getting a renewal. One can sense that the guys are looking to add to the repertoire rather than doing a simple Nostalgia Tour. If they do an old song, they are likely to add a few new words to the lyrics. The first season has eight episodes and it's unknown if there is to be a second.

Nostalgia, not good.
drphi17 February 2023
While I was a huge kids in the hall fan there is no way this reboot is a ten. It falls somewhere below an average grade. 3-4. If you like KITH go watch the old shows, the production value is lower but the guys had better sketches wth which to work. It struggles to have a couple funny moments. A ten? That means I'm laughing at everything, no way, not even close. I'm sorry the guys wasted time getting together for this, it was better seeing them live. Live accentuated some of their improv skills. This was just poorly written with a big budget. It seemed at times they tried to shoe horn a character into a new joke. Super drunk was a character that was good to see and it worked well live when they did it, most of the others felt manufactured.

Couldn't wait for it to be over, but I love their old show so I forced through.
