Ridiculous movie
MargeZee14 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
In the first 15 minutes, I stopped paying close attention to the movie because of the ridiculous assertions regarding meteorology. Whoever wrote this screenplay really needs to research weather forecasting. The plot is basically the guy telling the girl she should stop paying attention to the science and her tools and more on nature patterns like birds flying low, ants building taller anthills and such so she can predict the weather. I'm like, 'what the hell?!' I'm sure animal behavior is a clue and there's science behind it but to say stop reading the barometer bec it is not accurate is stupid. I like the actors individually but not together in this movie. Cute dog and cute outfits on the heroine, though. And it's true what they say of the mom, she's too young to be the mom. Her hair is obviously a wig. If they wanted her more believable, they should have added wrinkles and such. Or casted an older actress.

Casting nightmare
shannon_frost24 July 2020
The movie is cute and typical Hallmark fun but the casting of the mom is so far off it's distractingly laughable! She wears an awful grey wig but looks younger than the star! In reality she is only a couple of years older than the woman that plays her daughter. Please. Aren't there some late fifty year olds that can act? Of course there are. Shame on you for miscasting.

One of the most unrealistic Hallmark movies, and that's saying something.

Warning: Spoilers
If it actually rained as much as it did in this movie, there would have been massive levels of flooding. An arc would have been needed. If the head meteorologist had been wrong that often in reality, he would have been fired. You have to suspend your sense of reality for Hallmark movies. But, this one just took it too far. The characters were likable and their relationship was sweet. But, the weather premise was poorly done.

If you overlook some glaring shortcomings....
jfenn5305815 September 2021
Cute enough story line, I watched because I like the leads, and they carried the story.

But why in the world did they cast an actress as the mom of the female lead who can't be any more than 4-5 years older than her on-screen daughter? You can't just frost her hair and give her glasses and think the viewers can't tell they could be sisters.

Another mid-cast character is the female lead's co-worker who keeps making advances toward her all movie long - why cast someone who is let us say, is metrosexual or perhaps a negative testosterone level in comparison to the male lead?

Those two mis-cast actors combined with the supposed setting of Conway, Arkansas when the foliage amd scenery is clearly the Pacific SW Canada...

Mediocre, like assembled too fast to get details right, even to the point of those two mis-cast characters. And yet...worth watching if you like the two leads.

A dairy farmer commits to living in the big city for one year. A beautiful weather reporter vows to stop dating for one year in order to study up and become a full-blown meteorologist. They are next-door neighbors, and I'm in heaven. Awesome movie yes I Highly Recommend it. James Welch Henderson Arkansas 2/15/2021

It was OK
rhonnie-431398 August 2021
It's the only movie where the lead actress didn't irritate me. She does so in all her other movies.

She is usually too perky. But I think she toned it down a bit in this movie.

I probably won't watch it again but it was OK.

Nice raincoats but nothing else
hallmarkmov17 July 2021
I found the characters very annoying and the story boring. The fake rain was funny. I didn't understand why she was so unhappy with her job? Don't all meteorologists get told what to saw by a team of weather specialists? The whole nature is better than science was a bit weird as was how all the men in the town were cast under some sort of spell and kept buying her stuff only for her and the neighbour to eat it all. Also the mom is clearly close to her in age but is wearing a grey wig- so fake! Was there no one else available?

Feels Inauthentic
atlasmb8 February 2021
Leah (Cindy Busby), who works for a local television station, is a hapless dater. She decides to forego dating to focus on her career and moving out of her parents' house.

She buys half a duplex and discovers an attractive bachelor lives in the other half. Within the constraints of her no-dating policy, they become friends---perhaps more?

The story of this romance feels slapped together; small details seem incongruous. The characters are so cheery they feel unreal, like they are talking sitcom-ese. In short, everything feels staged. It is staged, but it shouldn't feel that way if we are to buy in to their story.

The actors do a fine job with the material they have. The leads, Cindy Busby and Christopher Russell, are likable and worthy of other material that allows them to be more authentic.

No chemistry, no ideas
brianberns-15 March 2021
The most boring sort of cookie-cutter Hallmark movie with all the passion of a Sears clothing catalog. The two leads are unable to squeeze any chemistry out of the laughably basic script: I'm a ____, but you're a ____, and sparks fly because we both ____. I passed the time by trying to comprehend just how depressing it must've been to actually write, produce, and act in this.

Yay Teamwork!
rebekahrox15 June 2020
Finally Hallmark teamed Christopher Russell up with an actress he had some chemistry with! He showed a lot more personality than he has in some of his recent roles. The best he's been since Midnight Masquerade. Cindy Busbee is one of my favorite Hallmark actresses and she did not disappoint in this one. The basic plot isn't anything much but the two leads really played off of each other well. it was a straight up romantic comedy with no festivals or save the--- fill in the blank--- gimmicks to prop up a tired plot and fill in the 2 hours. Plus, there was a lot of good information about the weather.

Cute and different
skwrpl29 June 2020
It's a fluffy Hallmark love story, and I didn't expect anything more. I enjoyed the city and country settings and the different professions of the main characters. Also, that they weren't on opposite sides of a business deal, or trying to save a business or farm or property, or thrown together to work on a small-town festival of some kind. The weather details were interesting, and I thought the lead actors had good chemistry and that their performances were just fine. It might not be one of the top Hallmark movies, but I give it high marks for being different.

Sloooowwww movie...
fctcsarahcross13 January 2021
The premise of the movie was different from the usual small town, festival-filled, love story. I had high hopes for this one, but the leading lady, Cindy Busby, was just so hard to watch. Her silly facial expressions seemed phony and her screechy voice seemed whiny. It was hard to get into this movie with her poor acting skills. I felt like I was watching a high school play when she was talking. The leading guy was much better. He seemed realistic and played his character role well. He was just paired with the wrong leading lady. Overall, I would pass on this one as you'd probably have more fun watching paint dry.

The plot is ridiculous even for Hallmark
Moonicas19 October 2020
Hero teaches heroine to forget the science and to predict the weather by flowers, fish, and stuff like that. It's nice to see an original concept instead of the stereotypical storyline, but this one really backfired. The actress, who is approaching 40, looks too old for the part considering the heroine was just finishing her degree and trying to start a career in meteorology on TV. And as others already pointed out, the heroine and her mother look like sisters and the age difference of only 4 years is really noticeable. I also felt that there was no real chemistry between the leads. But overall, it was watchable, and I liked the music.

Annoying
MickyG33324 April 2023
7.4 stars.

Leah (Busby) is convincingly one of the most infuriating females in a lead role in 'Love in the Forecast'. Give that woman a gold medal for being blatantly cringeworthy. It's no mistake that Leah purposefully blunders and makes dumb decisions in order to consistently sabotage her chances to be Mark's girlfriend. Why the self-sabotage, who can say? It's one of those strange behaviors that many of us fall prey to from time to time, and it is insidious. Maybe it comes from a fear of success, which is just a disguise for fear of failure and abandonment. Poor Mark is simply confused, and it's no wonder, he's a logical, salt of the earth farmer who is living in the city for a short while, and he falls for Leah pretty fast. We can see that she has also fallen for him, but for some strange reason, she chooses to take for granted the best thing that ever happened to her in her whole life. Not only does she recognize this fact, we as the audience recognize it tenfold. Mark is that guy, you know, the one every woman falls in love with, the man of men, the king of the good guys, smart, sexy, fun, kind, courteous, and with a good dose of common sense. You blew it Leah, you don't deserve to land this guy...but of course this is Hallmark, there is always the unimaginable dream come true no matter who or what you have become on your journey to find it. The ends always justify the means in Hallmarkland.

Eenie, meenie, minie mo

Don't waste your time because this movie is really slow

She says "it's rain in the forecast", he says "it's sun"

I say who cares because this made for TV film is certainly no fun

These two lovebirds play cat and mouse throughout the movie

If I can suggest you should be a lot more choosy

I forecast a 5 out of 10 IMDB rating, no more, no less

This film will never win any contest

Relaxing, simple filmed during the pandemic
SunnyDaise18 April 2021
Hallmark has done a great job despite covid restrictions. After over 1 year stuck at home shielding, I love having less people per scene as it's more realistic to me now. This is a calm movie with no big, loud boppy music, perfect for the new normal and one I'll watch over and over, any time of year. A few lines would probably annoy my relative who is a meteorology graduate but one thing this show has defo got right is that it's really hard to get a weather job - a BSc is not enough without sufficient experience.

Weird anti-science movie with bad actors
laurawalters-275003 November 2020
Apparently you don't need meteorology to predict the weather, all you need is faith and looking at flowers? Awful even for Hallmark. Bad acting, bad storyline, there was no chemistry or charisma. There's better ones out there.

Real sci-fi movie
raronhiarakwas10 September 2020
Leading actress 37 mom is 41 and not a stepmother. Trying to figure that one out. Poor storyline trying to make new Hallmark movies to fast quality is lacking and shows. The lead male actor did an excellent job considering what had to work with. He made it believable.

If anyone needs a meteorology-themed Hallmark movie, check out Cloudy with a Chance of Love. It's funny, has a great cast, and emphasizes the complicated science (!!) involved in weather forecasting.

This movie tried to establish a strong female character with big ambitions and career goals on the horizon. Unfortunately, a weak script and (I hate to say) portrayal on the part of Busby couldn't carry this one off.

is good as leap year, take it from a fan of dramas and thrillers.
Cinema2kMendoza19 July 2023
I watched this expecting nothing, and i liked that both characters were already developed(she in the movie always have a phone, latop, or tech next, and he always talks about nature)and the movie was easy to see. Is like leap year for me. The couple that dont know they will be a couple take all the movie to realize they love each other.also, the photography was great.being that is a tv movie looked really good.

The info about the weather was interesting, and yes, is more easy to know about the weather checking in the nature, the actress in this movie reminds me to a younger amy adams, maybe because she looks a bit like her, or maybe because her acting was more drama than comedy. Anyways i like it. I want to see her in another movies.this movie is good when u want something not to dramatic, not to light, is in the middle.thats why reminds me to leap year.is romantic but not cliche, and even have a dodge ram in alot of scenes.this actress has potential.

Bad acting and equally bad casting.
savethewatchmaker2 October 2020
As cleverly pointed out by another reviewer, Hallmark gets props for one reason and one reason only for this movie: creating a plot different from their usual fare as of late, which usually circles around evil corporations trying to swoop in on family-run businesses. Instead, this movie is almost refreshing in how it takes its time developing a neighbors-to-friends love story, which is a storyline that has the potential to make for a good film if paired with good actors.

As for the negative points of the movie:

  • The recurring motif of the science of meteorology being complete garbage, while natural indicators of weather are far superior. It was pushed so hard in this film that I started wondering if there was an anti-science propaganda agenda behind it. If science was truly always so woefully inept at predicting weather patterns, we as a society would've given it up ages ago.

  • The seriously bad miscasting of main character Leah's mother, who nobody is surprised to hear is only FOUR YEARS OLDER than her "daughter" Cindy Busby. This woman has been put into a terrible wig and expected to pretend that she's a good twenty years older than she really is.

  • Speaking of Cindy Busby, I unfortunately cannot under-emphasize just how much she contributed to this movie being as bad as it was. Ever since she became a Hallmark regular, it feels as if her acting has somehow gone progressively downhill. She over-enunciates, sometimes shouts her lines, is almost hammy with her facial expressions, and is, overall, just not believable. Her performance took me out of the movie multiple times, which is a shame, because Christopher Russell opposite her was doing a much better job in his role.

  • Lastly, although it's a small point: it was laughable when the two main characters go fishing and Leah proceeds to pull out a limp, obviously plastic fish that they both pretend is alive and well.

Dead frozen fish
slick_the_putz17 February 2021
Omg the main actress was like I just caught something and pulls a dead fish out of the water that looked so stiff it was probably frozen... and the main guy says if you love something let it go.... and they threw the dead frozen fish back in the water. This scene sums up the movie.

Bad story, bad premise, bad acting
Jackbv12315 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The running theme of this movie is that nature predicts the weather better than science and it's stated in words like that several times. First of all, I'm sure that science recognizes that there are many things in nature, especially related to animals, that can be short term predictors. Secondly, professional meteorologists are not that wrong that often. In the movie, it was every time. There are a couple of problems with the writers' misunderstanding of meteorology. The movie badly confused predictions of longer term trends with same or next day type predictions. The movie ignored the fact that meteorologists today, especially TV weather people, use computer modeling or simulations which often substantially agree and likewise often give conflicting models. The experienced weather man character was never uncertain and always wrong.

But the rest of the movie is just as silly. Leah is not an intelligent, rational person. She totally fits the blond stereotype not only in her approach to weather, but just as badly in her approach to relationships. Sadly, I can almost believe the ridiculous scenario of multiple gifts from suitors showing up at her door every day despite the fact that she makes it clear to all that she isn't dating. Almost believe it.

If you had randomly asked me going in if I like Cindy Busby as a leading lady, I would have given a quick yes. After watching her performance in this one, it made me curious, so I browsed back through my reviews of other movies like this with her in them. Except for Godwink, where it was the story that grabbed me, I have had little good to say about Busby and my ratings of her movies are almost all well below my norm. From the beginning in this, she struck me the wrong way and my view of her portrayal of Leah never recovered. I'd like to say it was the writing. And the dialogue was below par. As to chemistry, I just couldn't get past what seemed to me like a pasted on personality.

Ironically, this movie runs contrary to a pet peeve of mine (which I usually purposely suppress and ignore) about Hallmark type movies. The nature of a TV movie makes it hard to really establish a relationship. To make it worse, so many of these stories have couples "falling in love" in anywhere from a couple days to a week and only occasionally longer than a month. In this movie, a couple of supporting characters actually say that it's good for relationships to start with friendship, and this movie makes it clear that this couple did that. It also appears that the time frame is in months.

Why did I stick to the end? I was on a treadmill for 80 minutes, watching on a DVR. By then, it was almost over. Otherwise this would have been over for me in the first 10 minutes.
