Something to watch at your cottage
pommaczz22 May 2020
I was watching this during the quarantine, made me productive, view the property as a something wonderful to work towards in the future. The show had honest feelings, genuine people and the setting was beautiful. If you are someone, who doesn't care about the wilderness and building and taking care of a property, the show isn't for you. However, if you are intrigued by such aspects, the show will be good fun. I hope they do a follow up show on what has been done by the winners and how they are holding up.

A touching story
tobimmeyer14 May 2020
I was happy and sad all the same time. A very nice story of couple couple moving on as they get on in years.

The epilogue is way more entertaining than the show!
holls-9473925 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Wow just got done binging this show and it's pretty slow paced and not very exciting. Honestly it felt a little like not even half those couples cared much about winning this "prize".

So I was happy with the outcome because those 2 did seem to genuinely love it there. So after the show ended I googled what became of them and boy howdy! Turns out they lived in the house with the old couple for a whole month then flew back to England (planning to return at a later time) then couldn't come back bc of the pandemic. In the meantime, Duane's wife passes away after a heart surgery (rip) and he immediately starts dating some carol baskin look alike who convinces him not to give up the home! Crazy stuff.

Entertaining but unrealistic
siniluotonen13 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The show was entertaining enough and I even got emotionally involved towards the end. Still, it was hardly believable. The location of the homestead was so extreme that they should have hade seasoned wilderness types to compete for it, a bit of loners. Now the contestants were nice people but none would have survived and/or enjoyed a winter there. The survival challenges were not very difficult.

I think Duane and Rena were in for some pension money and probably expected more of the show. I'm not even sure if Duane and Rena got to decide much, many of the decisions didn't make much sense. They can't have seriously considered giving the house to Chris and Tina, Tina was so obviously uncomfortable. It seems to me that the producers picked at least some of the final four couples based on who would be most entertaining or likable. Contestants Bee and Theo write in their blog that some things were maneuvred during the challenges. Still, I did like the winning couple and they at least knew what working on a property is like.

I was sad to learn that Rena died shortly after the filming and Duane got apparently out of balance and tried to get the house back. I wonder how things are now, at least the winners are nowhere near Alaska at the moment.

OK-ish overall but makes no real sense
Show is ok-ish, so called "competitions" are lame and in the spirit of "everybody wins first prize" generation. Nobody is in any danger whatsoever, chores are 3hrs long tops and everybody is nice and helpful. Bottom line, nobody of the so called competitors is really the type to have the house, simply because people who would actually live there are sociopaths, and none of the contestants is that even remotely.

Wonderfully bittersweet
dreamweaver-3807424 April 2020
Just binged the whole season today! Loved it! Actually loved learning and hearing about Duane and Lena more than anything but...did I say I loved it? Really good show. Good characters. Good contests that actually made sense. I sat through the last 30 minutes just sobbing. Duane and Lena truly love their home and their land and it shows in everything they say and do. MUST WATCH!

Beautiful Alaska with a long long list of questions
anushreebhattarai9 February 2024
I enjoyed the cinematography of the beautiful Alaska, the narration and the story behind the property that is the prize for this show but after binge watching it, I did not enjoy it fully because it is a tad bit slow and not really exciting despite the breathtaking scenery of the wild wild west.

I have more questions than anything else. Why are the contestant only British when its on American soil? Are they allowed to own property just like that? Why did the owners not pass it on to their own family who could probably do a better job at carrying on their legacy cause lets be real the contestants were not really cut out for that kind of life. I think they picked the wrong people as winners. But also the tasks they put out for them was not enough to judge their competency!

A bit weird, a bit good.
yoghert_5528 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The show is a fun concept but it is a bit weird. Why are they all british? Why are most kinda too young or kinda too old? Shouldn't there be more couples really? Like the winning couple... idk how long they will stay.

The tests they undergo are not really hardcore at all. The isolation test is a nice cabin, with the camera crew there.... that's not isolation. Would have been more fun if it was more rough.

What saves it tho are the characters. Especially the old couple, I did cry when they had to leave their home, that was emotional. I think they just got some money from netflix, went along with the ride and trusted the process.

So very many unanswered questions
ghostamongyou20 June 2020
The show is endearing. An elderly couple who've made an amazing home for themselves in the Alaskan wilderness are giving it all away to the right couple. Six couples compete for the prize. But the unanswered questions are frustrating. What happened to the elderly couple? Where did they go? Was the house and property truly just given away? Why were all the competing couples exclusively British when the elderly couple are American and the location is in America? If you watch the show you'll see what I mean. It's interesting and the concept is unique, but so many things are just completely unexplained. In any event, wow is Alaska amazing...

Good reality TV!
klmreview1 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this show! But think the couple that went home first out of the last four..should have stay!! They were worried they may want to travel. But I'm thinking if they had that cabinet up there in the wilderness would have settled them! I havent seen the end. But the last two couples are questionable since the one female has MS and the other Tina...I think is too much of a city girl! Fun show to watch that shows you you have to be a special person to live in the wild!! Great concept for a reality show!!

a group of people hang out camping
olliebenet29 April 2020
It's a bunch of people that hang out camping doing challenges that involve doing a walk for an hour and a half, jumping in a lake and watching someone else shoot a buffalo, and sleeping 2 nights away from their partners, and then they talk about their "mind blowing" experiences doing these "incredible" challenges that sounds like anyone's Tuesday on a camp site. Then they go and meet an elderly couple who want to give them a house and the contestants basically tell this couple all the reasons why it's not really a good time for them to take the house.

Reality show wonderment
TuesdayThe17th29 April 2020
This is an amazing reality show with a heart of its own. Its pure wonderment. I am a big fan of reality TV but shows like this are ALWAYS way better than those teenie bopper type reality shows that netflix releases like "The Circle" or "Too Hot To Handle". Those shows basically suck. On the other hand, "Win the Wilderness" is incredibly heartfelt with genuine emotions and it's very entertaining through out. This is a very rare set of characteristics for a reality show. This show is likely to spark quite the emotion in most of us as it deals with passing on a legacy and the creativity and drive that more of us should get to know. For fans of shows like "The Great British Baking Show", "Instant Hotel", etc. Hope there is another season because, wow, this show is great.

A VERY Lacking "Survival" Show
jpatton149311 May 2023
Why are the contestants British?

Why do none of them seem to have ever spent any time in the outdoors, much less as survivalists?

How would the winners be able to afford to live there, since there are no jobs for at least a hundred miles?

Where are they getting internet from?

Where are they getting power from?

How do they get everything there with no roadways? Building materials and four wheelers and such won't fit in a bush plane.

Why didn't they explain how one man built a three story house out of trees he fell all by himself? There is no way he couldn't gotten those huge trees up that high without a crane.

Why in the world would people just give their house and property away?!?

So many questions after watching this show.

Poor reviews were from people who didn't see it to the end
iwillbitchslapyou25 May 2020
The end was so emotional, I felt them all for everybody. What an amazing gift to give and a beautiful gift to receive. What a disappointing loss for the runner ups. I spent a lot of energy fighting back tears, but they came anyway, I didn't even cry I was just overcome with emotion the tears just bled. It moves kinda slow, I skipped the lull in the beginning, but what an ending!

Beautiful but lacking
connertate829 April 2020
Watching this remind me me a lot of the bachelor but without anything that makes that show fun to watch. The Alaskan setting is beautiful but it's hard to care about anything happening on the screen.

Life in the north
kennethhuhta28 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Its a nice serie and a lovely couple of elderly that want to give their home away. It is a bit "american". This lifestyle is not only for alaska(usa) but Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Island and many more parts of the world. So this is reality/everyday life in very large parts of the world, if you dream of a life like that you have allot of options.

Boring and nothing to do with survival
VioletViolette19 August 2023
Elementary school camp activities with dramatic music in the background to make you feel like any of it is any kind of challenge. A great showcase of redneck Americans slaughtering and gunning their way through nature to destroy it. Wtf was that bison scene?!

The house wasn't as impressive as everyone pretended it was, and the true question is - did these people just claim this land for free, build on it and are now profiting from it?

Yuck. Terrible show, painfully boring contestants and zero redeeming qualities from anyone.

Not worth the watch. Outlast in comparison is a masterpiece - watch that instead..

Truly amazing program

I loved it. It contains a bit of everything, but most of all, humanity. Loved hearing the stories of yesterday years as well as seeing some amazing scenery. I'm looking forward to another program with the winners soon.

2020 But Everyone's White
keikoyoshikawa18 July 2021
I would love to know why all the contestants are white. Was that something that the elderly couple insisted on? Or was it the producers?

If the latter, I find it hard to imagine that no non-white or mixed couples were good enough to make it onto the show, or that they couldn't find enough such couples who were interested.

That said, it is a marginally interesting show. Sadly, it is mostly underwhelming. The challenges didn't seem to be all that challenging. Or maybe it was the way things were edited.

Really Educational and Beautiful Show
bigdogtim7-418-69404413 July 2022
This was a true joy to watch and Learn about Duane Ose and the humongous task he worked on with his Wife for 30+ years.

I absolutely loved seeing the raw Video footage from 1986 and onward regarding the early days deep in Alaska at Ose Mountain.

As for the Couple's who were vying for taking on such a Beautiful yet harsh lifestyle, I knew it would be a hard choice in each stage and found myself with the same choices through each episode, except who left in what order in the Final 3.

I did tear up at the end because of how tough the choice had to be, but also because I felt that the Ose's left their legacy to the right couple who worked best together.

I'm not sure why they would choose English Couples to compete, because none of them would have the necessary skills to deal with deep snow, which in and of itself rarely happens in Great Britain. So, I figure that a British Television Station made the best offer to the Ose's to do this show.

Definitely one of my Favorite Reality shows where everyone is rooting for each other the entire time and act civilized along the journey.

Great Story but a litte bit Fake for TV
Tamaskan23 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely love the story about Duane and Rena and it was a fantastic Show.

BUT, sadly I have the feeling that much of it is fake. I dont remember if they said how they got enough Money to survive there. There are costs for Food, Gasoline etc. Also the Aircraft Trips are pretty sure expensive.

NOW..how will the final Couple survive there? They have no experience in the Alaska Winter. She has MS and said in an early episode she cant afford medicine there. Also they are actually really old already. Give them a maximum of 10 Years and they will also be to old to manage all of this. They have no personal connections in Alaska that could help them. They dont know how to hunt and how to Deal with Bears, Wolves etc.

I guess Duane and Rena arent living at the Mountain for Months or even Years before the show and i dont think the final Couple will live there for more than 1 Year..maybe only for the Summer. They even have to immigrate to US before they can live there. What if they arent allowed to stay in the US?

But all in all..fun TV Show and worth a Binge Watch.
