Promising story line but gets progressively worse
aalleekk19897 August 2022
The plot is a film about security topics from EU and Finnish centric perspective, which is unique and provides quite a bit to be explored. The current geopolitical environment also makes the basic storyline somewhat believable. However, as the film progresses, the plot holes keep on expanding to the point that the film became quite nonsensical at the end. It is fine if it has the budget of blockbuster Hollywood action flick to cover that up, but it doesn't. Even though they did an outstanding job with the budget, it is still not quite there in absolute terms and it shows. The acting is bland, but perhaps it is a cultural element there. What is clear, though, is that the actors clearly didn't spend enough time/effort training. Their combat techniques (weapon manipulation/tactical movements etc.) look like amateurs when they are supposed to be highly trained agents. It is definitely not the worst action film I've seen, but unfortunately I cannot say I recommend this movie.

Boring nonsense done much better, many times before.
Top_Dawg_Critic4 July 2022
This was horribly directed and written, with a sloppy, bloated, incohesive and convoluted screenplay. Literally the entire two hour runtime could've been cut down to a 20 min short film and you would miss absolutely nothing. After about 20 mins, we were all struggling to stay awake and/or started playing with our phones. This film is 90% filler and 10% substance. There's a lot of nothing happening, and it's just repetitive and boring. I'm pretty sure the same scene of a helicopter flying into the city was copy and pasted multiple times. Was this bloated sloth even edited? The pacing was ridiculously slow and dragged out, just like pretty much every scene. It' a shame, because the cinematography was amazing, and the performances convincing for the most part. I just wish there was a real story here with some reason to care about the characters or the plot.

Complete Nonsense
omendata12 June 2022
I usually like most of what comes out of the Norsk/Swede/Finsk movie scene but this was a complete disappointment, almost like it was made in the 1980's for viewers with a limited threshold for entertainment as it seems most of the reviews over a 5 are all one review shills once again

This movie has really bad acting from the main female lead; where do they dig these so called actors from? Presumably following the Hollywood tickbox agenda once again methinks; even the recent Black Crab movie beats this one and it was a bit of a stinker too, even though the fantastic Noomi Rapace headlined it but at least she can act, so it was not a total loss but this one will just waste an hour and a half of your time it was so bland and formulaic with some truly dreadfully bad fight scenes.

Add to this some really boring action scenes and a completely unfathomable ending just makes this movie a complete waste of time!

No thought put into tactics=Amateur hour
johnbaggs8 November 2022
So the first part of the movie gave me a bad taste that continued throughout.

Terrible tactics from the beginning result in unnecessary casualties that pretty much lay the ground work for Amateur hour.

If there's any shred of truth to this, you'll know why the UN is referred to as Useless Neighbors.

Nonsensical plot simply made in the essence of the current political backdrop to point to more Russian Collusion.

We all know how that worked out in the US.

I can't recommend such garbage knowing there's an underlying agenda here. Gone are the days of movies simply being entertaining without the constant attempts at brainwashing our naive youth. Sad but true, hard pass on this one.

Exciting & well acted
xenafan4010 June 2022
I liked this way more than expected, found it well acted, tense, exciting. A good movie well worth watching & way better than much of what is appearing these days, many of which don't even deserve to be called "movie", if even be made & promoted as such.

You won't regret passing some time with this one, and it will hold your attention, where so many others will not.

I give any movie 20 minutes minimum to hold my interest, absorb my attention, if it's not doing that by 20 minutes, it's off, & on to the next, so for that alone, it gets my stamp of approval, solid 7 from me.

The first three quarters of this movie were ok but then it turned into some stupid, totally unrealistic and nonsensical action scenes that ruined the whole movie for me. Come on... for crying out loud!!!

Nothing new to this genre
Same-eYes21 November 2021
Only special thing is that it's Finnish. No any interesthing characters. Perhaps some other direct should make this. But I guess there's no any good action film director in Finland. Ups! I forget, there is. Renny Harlin. But he wasn't available. I guess he was busy with Luokkakokous 3.

Poor Imitation on Hollywood.
vanbasten-5816216 June 2022
How this movies is rated even 5+ is beyond belief. I am guessing it is a Scandinavian attempt at Hollywood and the movie fails miserably at that. Poor acting, poor plot, a theme of good guys vs villains that is now really tiresome. Don't waste your time.

A little disappointing
viirek4 December 2022
Although the film started out pretty ok then, at some parts, the acting was really mechanical (e.g. At the beginning I thought the character of Anya was either played by a humanoid robot or was computer simulated... it was eerily caricature... like a glitch in the film, like somebody from a neighouring movie set stopped by, straight out of a bad sci-fi movie...

Anyway, I think what went terribly wrong with this film was that the actors were made to speak a foreign language that most of them weren't particularly good at. Of course it is going to affect their performance! If it's a Finnish film, why not let the actors act in their mother tongue? I think it would have made a world of difference... It's weird if characters from Finland are talking to each other in English... cause IRL they never would. This film was like getting a massage when the masseuse is wearing gloves... kind of there, but, kind of, also NOT.

I think there was only one believable character in the film, that was Titov, the Belarussian mobster/villain (but that actor is also not from Finland), who mastered English with a Russian accent pretty well (but he had an advantage - he didn't have to sound good in English. Also, his acting had kind of a rough street cred, I enjoyed it very much. If it weren't for that character, I'd have given this film 3 stars, no more.

The set that was supposed to be in Tenerife... hmm... I could almost swear I recognized a beach in Estonia... the colour of the sea certainly points to that as well, and an old yellow swing set from Soviet era... maybe also Latvia or Lihtuania... I will eat my hat if it was really Tenerife.

I think that overall, the plot was pretty ok, except for maybe the last quarter of the film (why just tie up all those "loose ends" - so unnecessary). The execution of the film was, like, really bad, however. Mainly, I guess, due to a lot of rushing through the film shoots and a low budget, probably. So, for anyone not from Finland or Estonia or any other countries wherever the actors came from (and therefore would like to cheer on for their fellow courtymen) - please, don't waste your time... there are a million other such action movie-ish thingies out there that are a whole lot better.

Slow, dumb and rather booring
bjornar-182-2603518 September 2022
Being a Scandinavian I try to watch the Scandinavian movies out there, but I seriously had a hard time not turning this one off quite a few times.

Inexperienced actors, silly gunhandling, stereotypic plot and the pace is so slow it should neither be considered action, nor a thriller.

There are some seriously dumb scenes in this movie, and I won't spoil them, but I wonder if the producer was out on his coffe break when those scenes were recorded.

There are som scenic shots of Stockholm, but that's about it.

There are way better Scandinavian movies out there so I'd recommend chosing another movie to watch.

Surprisingly enjoyable film
liikka19 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is probably controversial but.... This movie looks very, very beautiful. It is so aesthetically pleasing. Also the costumes look really nice!

The soundtrack is nothing groundbreaking. It sounds nice and goes well with the scenes.

The biggest problems I had with this movie is that they killed off so many characters way too early.

Also the book doesn't have a proper protagonist other than Johanna... so why did they have to replace her with two other protagonists? Max Tanner? Huh? Why couldn't they just have Johanna and Antti from the book? And why is there an irish M?

Also I wish that the start would be more similar to the book. It feels way too confusing so starting it off with a prison breakout would have worked way better.

The last problem I have is that the serbs are genuinely terrifying masterminds who are good old pals and the conflict they have with eachother in the book is really interesting. Why did they cut all of it out? It really makes them look like bland villains ):

I like this film and will definitely get a Blu-ray of it if they ever make one. I just really wish that they could have made the movie more loyal to the book because in my opinion the book is perfect for a movie on its own. Sad that we missed out on a lot of good scenes though. Was really looking forward to seeing them ): Considering the godawful production hell Omerta 6/12 went through and the quite small budget this movie is surprisingly enjoyable and I hope that we could see more Finnish action in the future!

Way better than average.
PapaKiloPKDS16 November 2022
If you have no sense of Scandinavian culture or Finnish history, then you might very well be confused by this film, but that is your fault, not the movie's fault.

I actually LIKED the combination of subtitles and dubbing, when, for the most part, I get quite annoyed by Netflix's English-dubbing of European movies.

(Was it dubbed? ... I thought they were speaking English sometimes.)

It was well acted, with very reputable actors.

It certainly isn't a low-grade Bollywood action-hero type of movie.

I plan on watching it again to catch more of the subtle things that I may have missed the first time.

Wow, what a terrible ending and the whole storyline was convoluted
tearitdownner14 November 2022
Not very happy with this show it had potential, but it was wasted. The characters were very thin. The storyline was terribly written, and the whole concept was just unbelievable and like you couldn't follow it it made no sense really and nothing was really explained and then it just ended, these kind of movies they suck you win with a good trailer and they drag out too long and they just like go nowhere fast. It's really sad because takes a lot of time and energy and money to make these kind of films and then when they're poorly written, it just sucks I do enjoy finish and Nordic films but this one was a bomb I would say do not waste your time.

Questionable but watchable....
s327616911 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Viewed as a pure action flick, Attack on Finland is moderately watchable. Viewed in the context of the current political situation between the EU and Russia, I personally found it somewhat questionable.

Lets start with a few basics of ethics. I'd say its not alright to kill a child, nor is it alright to illegally break into someone's home. If they are a criminal, get a search warrant.

Taking that as a starting position, its also not alright for anyone including governments or governmental organizations to do this either. Its also not alright for individuals or groups to kill heads of state, the innocent and abduct people.

So getting that out of the way whats this film like from an entertainment perspective? Its quite watchable. I did like the international vibe it brings and the police/special forces cross over.

Action wise, it flows well and the story although pretty basic, holds together decently enough. Acting is solid but this really runs for the most part, on exposition.

In summary quite acceptable if viewed as an action flick.

5/10.

terrorists kidnap the finnish president
ksf-225 January 2024
In the united states, it's called attack on finland. In most of europe, it's omerta 6/12; omerta is the code of silence among criminals, or specifically, do not cooperate with police, or give evidence against others. Some of the film is dubbed in english, and has subtitles as well. Finland is celebrating their independence day when terrorists strike. Markus and sylvia are agents for the eu cybercrime unit, and have been assigned to assist. With the amount of high tech equipment, the gang is obviously a group of professionals. And they have kidnapped the president and a general. Most of the film is the kidnappers traveling with the hostages. By chopper, by plane, and by car. It does have a certain amount of suspense, as the special ops guys move in and come up with a plan. They need to knock off the terrorists while trying to save the president. It's okay. Some weak points... some editing issues. Sylvia yells orders at people now and then, but doesn't do so much. It feels like she's just along for the ride. Directed by aku louhimies, of finland. He has won numerous film fest awards.

incoherent
trimellone-188401 June 2023
This was watchable . . . I guess. There was a lot of filler material with long boring shots that went nowhere. Disparate parts of the plot never crystalized and action scenes tended to be either flat or overblown. I could not tell if part of the movie was filmed in English, or if the English was dubbed in later. I watch everything with subtitles turned on anyway. It's too late for the politics of the plot to be relevant, so I wasn't watching to see that play out. Even so, I expected for a conspiracy to revealed up into the highest realms of the government . . . But in the end, it just all fizzled out.

Don't watch. Read the book
Baze14315 January 2023
It's funny when people read a good book they immediately think this would make a great movie. This is not a good movie

Lead actor plays the part of no nonsense Finnish tough guy. Which fits Pääkkönen rather well.

Seems that direction and production were too busy dreaming their vacation during the filming so results is a poor Hollywood ripoff.

It is clear that this is made for Finnish audience only with cameos from news readers and other people who very few foreigners know.

This means more for the fans of Ilkka Remes and Finns who might have wished for this to be their own super cop series as Remes has made at least 15 book that continue this story in a alternative Finland with various characters.

Stupid and boring Warning: Spoilers
First, I'm from Finland and i usually love our police movies and series because they are well made and have usually really good plot.

This trying of a movie tries to be American style and there it goes straight to wall..I've read the book and all Remes books and this is so far from it...even Finlands best actor Jasper Pääkkönen can't save this one. It ends with all holes left wide open, nothing is solved and i want my 2 hours back. None of the characters aren't likeable, you don't care what happens to them, but biggest mistake is letting the bad guys go...this sucks. It was originally supposed to be 2 movies and series but after original director left project it was just thrown together. Not worth watching really.

Very well executed Finnish film. Only thing bothers me, there was no fighter jets on air while the helicopter was flying with Finnish President, otherwise awesome directing and acting, would love to see a sequel.

This was sadness
Otte16 November 2022
Where to I start.

Plot-The plot was overly complicated and dubious that I am not sure what was going on, why it was happening, to who it involved and finally not caring anymore.

Stupid villians-One person with a handgun vs six highly trained black ops with high-tech automatic weapons which they already had pointed. Want to guess who won? Yeah, we got those types of scenes.

Who shooting who-At one point the villians and 'police' was dressed the same, so when the shootout started, you could not tell who was being shot. Bad oversight committed by the director.

Subtitles- Either subtitle the entire move, or dub the movie, please pick one. Here the movie was almost 50-50 with dubbing then switching to Finnish, Russian, French and English. It was very confusing expecially if you were not watching the screen every second.

Refreshing to see finnish action
tuozee28 November 2021
Good action packed film. Character building is lacking though and there is even too many changes in location. Hopefully there will be more finnish action movies, doesnt even need to be this "international".

Omerta 6/12
LaPresti112 January 2023
Director: Aku Louhimies Actors: Jasper Pääkkönen, Nanna Blondell & Sverrir Gudnason My Points: 6,5 - 3/5 This was pretty good film, expecially for it's made in Finland. Not all filmed (in Finland), but made. The hostage situation were made pretty nice.

Jasper 'Markus Tanner' Pääkkönen is good, I have always liked him. Except maybe when he where in Finland soup opera ("Salatut elämät")!

But how Tanner didn't get lost in the halls of 'white house' ("presidentin linna")? It looked very confusing place... The car chase in empty Helsingi's main streets, were excelent to watch.

First I was afraid, that the movie ends when the hostage scene were done, but thankfully it continued. Although, this isn't a very good film - but pretty watchable, so it was good that this continued (after the hostage scene...)!

And ofcourse it has a special 'liking ability', when it was made in my homeland. And it was pretty goodly made, I may buy this in my movie collection.

Such a ridiculous fairytale effort of a thriller.

Wasted time ....

Wasted money on the production....thrillers have have a point. There is absolutely no point in this movie....

So deja vu... the characters are bland....the storyline like a 90s effort ...pointless

Luckily I didnt read the book if the movie ia so bad.

Boring movie. Fail casting. Poor acting.
segab-2008320 November 2022
Please read book first, as this movie is based on Ilkka Remes book "6/12". The Book is OK but movie is terrible nonsense, that's barely follows the original book. To be honest, casting for this movie failed big time. Acting in this movie is far below average. Have seen better acting in kindergarten Christmas play. Some critics even said that acting in this film is disaster, and i agree. Directing is ok, since director changed during the filming. With better casting and acting, movie could reach above water line. But with this plot, movie is waste of time and money. I give this movie rating F. Not recommend anybody to watch this time wasting and poor acting nonsense.
