This series is meant for those who appreciate mature relationships. It's not a typical fast-paced love story with crazy rich or insanely mean characters. All the characters of this series are so genuine and normal that you must have witnessed such people in real life. This show touches so many profound and problematic topics at once that it's almost overwhelming. Be it solitude, troubled past, misunderstandings between friends, domestic abuse, or suicidal tendencies, it makes you understand why a certain character is the way it is portrayed. But the beauty of the show lies in letting the audience see how the characters grow and learn to love themselves.
The slow-paced narrative is the most appealing part for me and the chemistry between the lead characters is excellent. All the supporting characters justify their roles too.
If you get bored by the first 2 episodes, maybe this show is not meant for you. But if you stick till the 8th episode, I am sure you'll complete it and cherish it too.

This one drama has impacted me deep. Unlike many k dramas it focuses on ordinary people with simple life problems to deal with. Every character has its own perfectness and also imperfectness.
It does give a kind of sad vibe but at the same time it justifies it. The poetry all along is so beautiful and the story is simple and slow.
This drama feels genuinely realistic, it beautifully shows why people around us may behave differently.
Everyone has his own problem to deal with but with time everything heals and eventually we overcome our hardships.
I loved it for the fact that it shows what a true unconditional love means.
P. S. I dont understand why this drama is underrated and not much famous. It seems people like living in fantasies instead of facing the truth.

...scenes that make you laugh, scenes that make you cry, scenes that make you feel warm and loved and scenes that frustrate you (the latter mostly in the last few episodes).
This show isn't perfect and neither are its characters but that's what I loved the most about it. It was REAL. Nobody is perfect, we all have bad habits or make mistakes every once in a while even if it hurts the people around us. And this show made sure you get the picture.
Life is full of disappointments and pain, but also full of love, care and second chances. You just gotta let your heart see that.

But honestly, it's a slow paced one and in the beginning you don't really know where the story is headed so you might think this show has no purpose at all. But please give it a chance because it just perfectly pictures life with all its downsides and upsides.

This show is definitely not for everyone. I had enough patience and interest to start this and it was all worth it. No unnecessary dialogues at all in this show! There was silence with meaning every time and it was felt very deep. It shows the reality of life we have.
There is no action and drama and adventure in our lives. We all have simple lives with simple problems. Yet, this show showed such little emotions so beautifully.
Shyness, reading books, forgiveness, expectations, love, family, past, regrets, memories and crushes. These are our lives and this show shows how beautiful our life can get.
This show will probably be one of the few shows that have inspired me to change my life. I encourage everyone who are searching meaning and who think simple life ain't much fun to watch it. You never know, what change it might bring in you!
A poetic understated story to enjoy slowly

This show is slow. While I like drama that takes its time to fully develop its characters and storyline, I still find this a little too slow for my liking. Yet, somehow I was never bored and I wanted to find out more as each key character gets closer to others... That the story takes place in a bookstore with no customers, in the countryside near a small town during winter, with almost no dramatic actions to speak of other than a slow reveal of the backstory of each of the main characters probably tell us something. That life can be simple, banal or boring. But it can also be sad, beautiful, heartbreaking or heartwarming. It's really up to each person to decide what you want in life, how actively you want to achieve that goal, how you allow it to affect your happiness if the goal is not achieved. The goal may be as typical as finding love or as banal as being content with your simple life.
The winter countryside scenery is beautiful but filmed in a very understated way which I find brings out the mood of this show. There are a few surprises or twists in the story but they are not the real focus or the highlights. What keeps us interested are the relationships between the characters and the emotional journeys they go through. In this respect, the ending is a good fit with the mood of the story. Wow I love this! This is a calming and beautiful kdrama set in the countryside. I wouldn't describe it as slow, more like relaxing. It's a different kind of show. It creates a peaceful ambiance and is very character driven, but nothing about this has been slow so far, unless you're looking for action which this is not. I couldn't stop watching from episode 1. Can't wait to watch more

Wow WOW that was the coziest drama I've ever seen. Grab a cup of sweet matcha latte 🍵, your favorite blanket, and settle in folks cause this is gonna warm up our cold hearted insides.
This drama felt like I was all bundled up walking down the crisp air of my Berkeley neighborhood. Like even if my eyes were watering from the cold, and I couldn't feel my toes there was still a warmth radiating from within me.
I loooooved Min Young as always, she truly illuminates every drama she's in. It was a very sweet, well crafted story. Of course there's a intimate partner violence story as part of the drama so be prepared for that. But, aside from this the show is truly a MOOD, a VIBE, I'll be rewatching when the weather is cold and it matches the mood of this beautiful town.

This drama is still and poetic. It is a slow, warm and exquisite story that lands in your heart. This is not for binging, it is simply to thoughtful and profound. It gives perspective On ordinary life and at the same time it tells us about the extraordinary people that fill this life and their destiny. Beutiful.

" I'll go to you when the weather is nice " was like reading a slice of life book.
The setting was perfect, with the winter scenery, the rural area, the forest and the small town with the cozy bookstore. The drama worked with the light really well and kept that rustic, authentic appeal till the very ending. The pace was relaxing, as well, slow and perfect, even though the family drama was intense. The latter was introduced slowly too, with a few scenes here and there to keep things interesting till the ultimate climax. The portray of the emotions of the characters then was just spot on, as they didn't overdo it with the understanding and their reactions. Rather, they were ordinary humans who react selfishly, awkwardly and disappointingly. The drama also followed not only the two main leads, but their families and friends' stories as well. Especially the story of the aunt was pretty great. Finally, the romance was good, not too intense and just right for the mood of the drama.
However, the drama had some boring moments, especially towards the ending, when it felt like they were trying to fill in the gaps between the actual action. Still, the performances were great from everyone, as it is expected from a stellar cast (at a point it felt like a Extraordinary you reunion ha ha), and the drama did feel like it is a book adaption.
So, overall, seven out of ten.

I don't have a word to describe how amazing this drama is. It had been on my watchlist for sometime and when I started watching, I was mesmerized. I am not a fan of slow movies or dramas and this one is really slow and yet I loved it. It's like those Christmas movies you watch which makes your heart warm, has a feel good vibe. When I watch a drama, it is usually the character or characters that I fall in love with, but this drama, I fell in love with this drama.
I love both the lead actors, they are amazing and make the characters lively. Seo Kang-joon is just an amazing actor, conveys the emotions even without speaking a word, makes you fall in love with the character he plays. That's what he does in this drama. The male lead is just and ordinary guy and yet you can't help but feel there is something extraordinary about him. And Park Min-young, lovely as always.
I have watched it once and am planning to watch it again. Feels like once isn't enough. 😊 Go watch it and let your heart get filled with warmth.

The story of young Korean going back to their hometown to find romance is common recently and the story started off fine. But the lead male and female characters just didn't seem to connect. The aunt wearing sunglasses 100% of the time became annoying. The little sister was very annoying. The mother popped in, was unlikable and disappeared. But I even made it to episode 7 and then bailed when Eon Seop went up the mountain , then had some sort of mental breakdown, then blew off Hae Won who was nothing but kind to him. The constant flashbacks to bullying and parental abuse turned me off so I bailed on the show.

WTWIF, though it mainly takes place in winter, is like a caressing summer breeze. Be still, and let it flow over and around you. It is about loneliness and togetherness, as well as pain and healing.
One could say that a theme of the show is to 'Come In From The Cold.' Tied into that is what is required to come in from the figurative cold: Expressing ourselves and our feelings. Family and loved ones should know about each of us. Those that take their feelings to the grave remain in frigid, gloomy isolation.
The words "warm" and "cold," along with their variations, are ubiquitous in this series. The concepts of warm and cold are visually represented over and over again, via the weather, beverage choices, families or individuals, blankets, coats, or shoes. They weren't stingy with it.
The director wasn't stingy with quality, craft, or scattered, beautiful little radiating embers like glowing gems. For example, Ep3 lays out an allegory for the show in the book club scene. In 'The Legend Of The Silver Fox's Eyebrow,' the fox lends his eyebrow to a person who cannot find a real human. The eyebrow, when looked through, would reveal the true nature of the person being observed. There were pigs, weasels, and rats, but no genuine humans were found. Imagine the fear that might escalate due to that non-discovery. In EP15, Mok Hae-won will express her version of this tale.
This series has a unique vibe, like the feel of an indie film. (Except for the scenes involving Hui:) The soundtrack is often silence or just a few scattered low, subdued cords. The cadence is slow, at least for 14 episodes. Episodes 15 & 16 aren't necessarily fast paced, but they are jammed packed. The series seems to be moving at Eun-seob's pace: Plodding, but steady.
Somewhere around EP7 we're given reason to wonder what could be in the next 9 episodes? However, by EP15, what came to mind was: Is it almost over already?!!?? :( What's even happened since EP7?.....? ---> Charming small town life has happened, along with the subdued every day conflicts that don't seem like high drama unless one is living them out.
Speaking of small town life, what's really special about Jang-woo is that he understands himself and what he wants. This helps him to be content which is the #1 ingredient for happiness. He chose his hometown over the glamour of Seoul. He knows to keep it simple. While we know he's smart, he is also the wisest of them all. He is the #1 pillar in this show.
Another delight is Hui, who is full of life and joy. She's simply happiness on a bicycle. Her exuberance cannot be squelched. Her energy is boundless. She can't be stopped, the targets of her affection are learning. While we can't rely on Hui's logic... {Lil sis: If everyone at school hates me, he should be the one that likes me. Mae: Is that how it works? Lil sis: of course it is!} ... Perhaps we could benefit from one of Hui's mantras: "That hurts my pride. It really hurts my pride. It hurts my pride SO MUCH!!" Get it out. Expel it! Then move on.
Genetics, and the concept of family are touched on- a couple times overtly, but mostly implied. Im Eun-seob's uncle talked about what's in the family blood. He states it can't be denied, and pushes hard for Eun-seob to go away with him. This sets up the direct comparison of IES's family to MHW"s family and their issues.
Several of the townspeople took delight in belittling IES because they passed judgment, calling his parents hobos. His mother was having none of that. She resists when they dispatch IES to rescue people lost in the mountain, saying they care nothing about him or putting him in danger. Another time, she declares that she's decided to love IES more to avoid any perception of playing favorites. Her motherly love for IES is absolute, and she never hesitates to express it. She's pillar #2.
There is mirroring, especially between MHW, Mom, and Aunt. MHW mirrors both of them and they mirror each other. There's many metaphors as well. When IES took MHW to her childhood home, she commented that she heard it had fallen into ruin, which is a metaphor for the family. It continues through Mom, who informs that she fixed the house up "well," and sold it "well." That fix-up process has begun for her family too. The metaphors can be used as a link between characters. MHW is shown as connected to her mother and her aunt via lollipops and sunglasses. They don the sunglasses to hide their hurt. Lollipops appear to be an attempt to self comfort, like having something sweet when life turns bitter.
MHW is drawn to IES like a weary traveler to a cozy seat by the hot coals. IES is always wrapping a coat, blanket, or his arms around her. She can't get enough of it. After MHW finds out the miserable truth about her family history, she runs away to be alone with her thoughts. IES finds her on a bench, and wraps his coat around her as the camera pans down to a small heater. He holds her: Warmth. Such comforting warmth.
If one thinks about it, warmth is simple. Coldness is complicated. ((Simplifying)) is another theme of the show. Think: Jang-woo.
The Maze Of Sisterfield... The topic of domestic violence is addressed in ISYWTWIF. We witness a woman in the hospital who is days away from death, and even she has bruises from a recent beating. In typical fashion, she lies about it. We see a harsh climate that yields no space for compassion or pity for these women, only cold condescension. It is a commentary on the collective, not on the women as individuals.
Severe, or continuous pain can change a person. Like forgetting how someone looked when they were young, a person in chronic pain can forget what it's like to be well. After awhile, many that suffer longstanding pain struggle with desiring to be healed because they cannot visualize it. I've witnessed this. One cannot have a goal that he/she cannot understand, perceive, or are too deflated to carry out.
The ones that love MHW are unable to communicate it. They don't even think they deserve it. They are icicles, lined up next each other but they never come together. When the weather is fine, they have to melt to combine as water. Then they can flow together.
Mom was trying to protect everyone, but only ended up isolating everyone for a very long time. Her motivation was love, but she failed to express it. Mok Hae-won rightly told her: "If we're family, we should share the pain together."
Bo-yeong muses that no relationship is flawless, but we can eat on a table that has a crack. Stress cracks are bound to form in relationships over time. We hurt each other, apologize, forgive each other and move on. That's how we live. Everyone needs to find their space in which to live.
Hopefully, Aunt and Crybaby will find their space. How STUBBORN can a person be, especially when it's to their detriment? The show does tell us that some people never let go of the white-knuckled grip they have on their emotions. Aunt is self censured, and resigned to carrying out the sentence she required of herself: Denied love and marriage, denied medical treatment and pain relief, shaded from the world and most human interactions. She treats Crybaby just as she treats herself. If she is going to deny herself and live in misery, then Crybaby will just have to accept it. He is more special to her then she will acknowledge. If she truly lets him go for good, she will regret it.
Aunt shows further evidence of a defrost when she implores Mom to write a letter to MHW. Aunt warns Mom that her motivations will remain a secret forever if she doesn't explain them. Communication must begin. Then healing is sure to follow.
The director dedicated extended screen time to celebrate the arrival of spring. At one point, MHW says that she can tell it's getting warmer because her breath is only fogging up half the distance that it used to do. The rain starts. Thunder rumbles. Vivid green buds cover the trees. Everybody is talking about the beautiful weather. Spring will welcome hope & simplify triumphs.

She treats Crybaby just as she treats herself. If she is going to deny herself and live in misery, then Crybaby will just have to accept it. He is more special to her then she will acknowledge. If she truly lets him go for good, she will regret it.
Aunt shows further evidence of a defrost when she implores Mom to write a letter to MHW. Aunt warns Mom that her motivations will remain a secret forever if she doesn't explain them. Communication must begin. Then healing is sure to follow.
The director dedicated extended screen time to celebrate the arrival of spring. At one point, MHW says that she can tell it's getting warmer because her breath is only fogging up half the distance that it used to do. The rain starts. Thunder rumbles. Vivid green buds cover the trees. Everybody is talking about the beautiful weather. Spring will welcome hope & simplify triumphs.

I really hate the beginning 7 episodes because it was so slow with a lot of slow mo scenes and dialogues. But after that, the love theme plot thickens and the chemistry of the two was great even if Seo Kang joon barely acts, he is a naturally romantic guy. I also love the post script that when I'm reading it, it feels like I can hear him say it.

First of all, I love the main leads. Then I would like to recommend every one this beautiful drama. It goes a bit slow but family's love is shown quite nicely. I am writing a little review because I have seen five episodes so far.

Love the slow pace, love the settings, love the soundtrack. Yet another k-drama not afraid to touch upon difficult issues without belittling any of them. Moving effortlessly through different genres - comedy/melodrama etc - making the different storylines inviting and human. Already revisited more than once, appreciating the subtlety of the acting/directing/editing etc. If you're not afraid to be moved this winterstory will warm your heart and mind and get you ready for another less ordinary spring in the real world as well.

Love both leads; not crazy about the rest of the cast and subplots. I agree with those who think the series is slow and disjointed; then it fragments into side stories and repetitive flashbacks with increasingly less focus on the main story and leads, which are why I tuned in. These for me are serious script problems from a writer I would not seek out in future series choices.

It's obvious what's makes a heart heal - kindness, compassion, forgiveness, trust, warmth & love. It's all there.
It's a warm show with spectacular cinematography, well laid out screenplay, Touching background scores, Good Acting & beautiful chemistry. Still enjoying it would depend on individuals taste & preferences, yet I suggest you give it a try for yourselves.

Lovely, Sweet, Warm, But Too Slow

There are a lot of things to love about When the Weather is Fine; it has a beautiful soundtrack, gorgeous cinematography, and most importantly it has a really great cast full of likeable characters. I really liked all the characters in this, from the main couple to the siblings to the friends. I adored Eun Seop; what a lovely ML, he was so sweet and kind. I also liked Park Min Young's character a lot up until the last few episodes where they decided to throw character development and logic out the window for Hae Won.
I will say that what I think a lot of viewers like was the tone and atmosphere which were indeed very warm and sweet, but also rather sleepy. That was fine, as I was expecting a slow show. However, that being said, this easily could have been cut down to 12 or even 10 episodes. There was a lot of "pretty filler" shots of the countryside, scenes of reading poetry, car rides, and marketplaces. While this set a nice tone, the shots were repeated, often. This eventually led to boredom, which led to complete disinterest in the last 3 or 4 episodes. The ending was rather open ended, and the conclusion of the main couple wasn't really satisfying.
I also couldn't help but compare this show with "A Piece of Your Mind," which was a similar show with a similar concept that aired at almost the exact same time. In comparing the two, A Piece of Your Mind was superior in my opinion, it was a shorter show that filled the episodes with a better pace and a more interesting story, but it also had that sweet, warm, slow feeling to it. If you have to/want to pick between the two, I would skip this one and go with A Piece of Your Mind.

Emotional, raw and deep dealing with all human emotions, not only the good ones like love, friendship and happiness but also the bad ones: betrayal, loneliness and sadness.
This is the second time I watch this drama and I have enjoyed it more ( of possible) than the first time.
Funny and witty, emotional, romantic, heart fluttering Such a beautiful poem and so beautifully written, with many reflections, this script will make you fall in love of the written word and if like me you love books it will make you imagine and dream about every story and legend they explore.
Reminds me a bit of the amazing novel The Guernsey Literary and potato peel pie Society, where the characters of that story also find refuge and companionship in their book club. The drama also has similar elements to Romance is a bonus track, another of my favorite kdramas.
I have enjoyed the acting of this cast like i have never before, they have done such brilliant job portraying them, you literally smile, cry, get upset and nervous alongside them, that's how powerful their performances were.
I have to mention specially how great the acting of the little sister was, Im Hwi's character was fearless and her performance was like a tornado of emotions.
I also enjoyed Lee Jae Wook performance, such funny and awkward personality, he literally nailed the comedy in it, was superb.
Talking about main leads, Im not a fan of the latest dramas or Park Min Young , where her characters feel robotic and repetitive, this drama though, is a great example of how great she can be with a good script.
Obsessed with Seo Kang Joon and his portrayal of Im Eun Seob, his silent burst of emotions through his gaze, powerful performance indeed.
Lovable, charismatic and memorable characters, unique and bright personalities. You will enjoy this drama so don't skip it or you'll regret it!

It thought it will be a good drama because my friend suggested this. I also came to watch this because of Park Min-young. But I'm disappointed. I felt very bored to watch this Drama. Really, it's not my type. Story is not containing any destination. Drama is like they pulled the storyline to make it 16 episodes.
Overall, drama is not my type. But i like to say, worst drama i ever watched.

"When the Weather is Fine" has many elements that I really enjoy: a rural setting, a slow pace, nice music, interesting scenery and attractive actors (Park Min Young and Seo Kang Joon are particularly noteworthy). That it was apparently filmed in the fall/winter is very impressive (most series would have tried to "winterize" a more temperate season). But (heavy sigh) I just can't recommend it. Nobody in this series acts or talks like a regular human being. All movies and series take some license with actual human behavior in the interest of plot and character. But it's all in the proportion. In other similar series, it's an absolute requirement to have "eccentric characters." But in this one, they're not eccentric...they're weird (and not in an interesting surreal way).
For example, an important conversation takes place between two characters sitting in the back of a moving bus, several seats apart, both parties looking forward. Who would ever talk this way? Eun Sop is shown throughout the series to be totally in love with Hae Won (even mildly obsessed). But when Hae Won finally confesses her love to him, he rejects her because he's afraid of being happy?! (Come on, guy, it's Park Min Young we're talking about here!) Hae Won eventually leaves Eun Sop because....it's spring? She's mad at her aunt? Even if we suppose that the issues with her aunt cause her to leave (and by the way THAT conflict doesn't make any sense either) and she doesn't want to move in with Eun Sop (who, after getting over his initial reserve, is one heck of a good boyfriend), how about Skype, Facetime, email, phone, mail? Why break off the relationship? The main reason I kept watching was to see what convoluted plot point would pop up next, what would the next vague "say it but don't say it" conversation be about, and would that aunt ever take off her sunglasses? (I was actually surprised that one of the secondary romances resolved in a traditional way...I kept waiting for some weird divergence).
I don't know...maybe something got lost in translation.

-scrumptious hot pot with your loved one
-sitting in a bookstore, reading a great book and drinking coffee made by Seo Kang Joon -which I want, but can never have :-(
Drama for mature minded...

I don't mean this drama is for older audiences but for those of us, whether young or old, who have patience and lived life. I found the pace and development of the main romance to be extremely comfortable...like sitting down to read a good book on a cold or rainy day. Maybe the story resonated with me because I find myself moving into the suburbs after living in huge cosmopolitan cities for my youth but this drama is mostly relaxing and healing. There is major angst with the tragic story of the FL's mom and aunt and warm comedy provided by the tiny village book club members. This is slow paced but meaningful drama about love, family and friendship.
