Nice little family movie
SnoopyStyle10 June 2014
12 year old Casey Baker (Jordy Benattar) lost her mother 8 years before. Her father Jeffrey (James Gallanders) hides in his work. She's left with her grandfather Charlie (Tom Bosley) often. While Jeffrey is away on a business trip, Charlie has a heart attack but he doesn't want to spend his remaining time dealing with his illness. Dr. Robert Graham (Barclay Hope) may have a clinical trial and Jeffrey can't deal with the possibility of losing Charlie. Dr. Fran Gilford (Cara Pifko) works with Dr. Graham as well as his ex.

It's real nice to see Tom Bosley doing work and he looks great in one of his last few movies. He looks sharp. Jordy Benattar is cute and has some spunk to her. They have a nice sweet chemistry together. I would be fine if this movie is only about them. On the other, I found the father rather bland and I don't really feel invested in his relationship with Dr. Gilford. It's a TV movie and it has about that level of production value. I also wish the writing was sharper for Bosley to play with. Little Jordy is able to bring the emotional punch. It's a nice low key family movie.

Charlie & Me- Needs A Doctor on Call **1/2
edwagreen11 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
We've seen it so many times before. Grandpa is stricken with a severe coronary, but this time the precocious and often obnoxious little girl lies to protect him. She is invariably afraid of the surgery he may have to have to survive. Of course, it turns out that the girl was right and we're supposed to listen to her rather than the physician, the latter played by Barclay Hope, young, with a cold veneer but hungry for love.

Grandpa Tom Bosley gives his all to the story, but the writing is so obvious.

Despite a surprise ending, we've seen so much of this before. Of course, love doesn't bloom between Grandpa's widower son and the doctor's ex-girl friend.

Charlie & Me

My family thought Charlie & Me was excellent. It is a family movie and is very touching to the heart. We can't wait till it comes out on DVD so it can be added to our collection. It is very loving when a grandpa steps in and helps be there for grandchild when parent can't. It also is a very bonding movie. I wouldn't change anything. We enjoyed the all of the movie but when she put up the lines from her home to gr-amps home so they could communicate back and forth that was very touching the whole movie was very touching. It is a real tear jerker my child and can relate since his father was never there for him. Grandpa was Casey's her whole world. But however, she needed her father also.

My family loved this movie.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a great movie about an issue most of us will face at some point; the illness of a beloved family member. Tom Bosley is terrific as the grandfather. Jordy Benatar, who plays his grand daughter Casey, is full of personality. They have great chemistry together. The story is very well written, and gets right to the heart of the problems the family is going through. It is a movie that can be used to teach children about illness and death. Although it is sad, it is also hopeful. All the characters are interesting and fun to watch. Even though the movie has a sad theme, it has lots of fun parts. The grandfather is so wonderful and loving, it reminded us of all the great times we had with the grandfathers in our family. This is a movie that can be enjoyed by every age group. I have not seen a movie like this before, that is appropriate for such a wide audience. I loved the movie, and really enjoyed seeing Tom Bosley. He comes across as being a grand man.

Charlie and Me was one of the best movies my husband and I have ever watched.
wopstaff25 June 2008
This movie was a movie that I would love to view with my grown children and my grandchildren. Tom Bosley is an excellent actor and the young girl who played Casey was amazing. It was so real watching Casey and her grandpa's closeness as she helped him and learned from him. Our daughter had this closeness with her grandpa, especially when he was sick and taken to the hospital and the doctors said there was no hope and she laid on his bedside and prayed that he would live. And he did for 10 more years. She was only 8 at the time. Taking time for the ones you love is so much more important that working your life away as we did sometimes as parents.

Everyday is a gift...

Warning: Spoilers
"The best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person, while no matter how serious your life requires you to be--sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold & a heart to understand. Everyone needs a friend to act goofy with & being kind is more important than being right--Andy Rooney"

I've watched this show three times & it won't be the last, as I will never tire of the chemistry between granddaughter & grandfather.

Sadly, every death is a cause for a pause, for the price of love--is loss. This story has precisely accomplished that for me....

Excellent Family Fare
rsplendorio-11 October 2019
A beautiful portrayal of a relationship between young and old. Most movies of this kind extend reality a bit as does this movie. The work the actress playing Casey was moving. If you are not touched by this movie you have no heart.

Tom Bosley is a force
burgerman936 November 2022
I really appreciated this movie. While it was dramatic and sad, it was heartfelt and had a secular tone. In one of Tom Bosley's last roles, he plays a sweet and slightly curmudgeon grandfather who shares a special bond with his granddaughter. After a heart attack nearly costs him his life, Gramps gives her a sincere lesson on how to live a quality life and cope with loss. Gramps also helps her learn how to cope with her fear of public speaking and to interact with a male classmate.

The "tie in" (pun intended) to jazz music also strengthened this movie. For a Hallmark movie, the acting and scenery was strong. It's a perfect film for everyone, young and old.

Amazingly good
jewelch17 May 2021
I watched this on Hallmark Now it was a heartwarming story of family and change. Dealing with the loss of a loved one can be difficult for anyone, especially when they are very close. The bond between Charlie and Casey is one that will last forever but Casey needs Charlie's help to make it through. Charlie has lived next to his son and granddaughter for many years, and Casey and Gramps are are very close. But as a result of a heart attack, Charlie realizes that some changes have to be made before his trip "home".

This movie will have you laughing and crying. James Welch Henderson Arkansas 5/18/2021.
