Excellent, but...

Warning: Spoilers
Excellent movie... except the story became boring.

It should have more interaction with the characters of the tribe instead of being an endless quest...

They should have followed the original comics more closely.

Anyway, it's a good movie for kids.

42 comic book issues were publish in french.

Yakari is a young Sioux Native American who has the ability to understand and speak animal languages. During his adventures, he meets all sorts of North American animals. His best friends are a girl Sioux, "Rainbow", a Sioux boy "Buffalo Seed" and his pony "Little Thunder". He has a totem animal, "Great Eagle", who frequently appears to him to give him critical advice.

The comic shows a very positive view of the culture of the Sioux and depicts them as peaceful people who live in harmony with nature.

An adaptation as expected

Because of my child I watch since more than one year a lot of Yakari. I have seen every episode multiple times. I can't say that I am a fan but the Show is certainly at least ok for me.

Watching the movie was a pleasant experience to me. Next to the nice animation, I think they caught the mindset of the tv show really well.

The movie dont give you anything new and is more a well made remake of different experiences of the already known TV Show.

Life and messages

I have to admit - I did not expect this to go so deep - human nature, connections, life, how we view animals and many other things. The movie really is telling us (and our kids or kids in general of course) something. And it is a really good message.

While it may not be Pixar in many regards, it still holds its own and then some. The quality of the animation is high (at least that's how I perceived it) and the story is more than intriguing. There is suspense there is an unwilling bond ... and there are adventures ahead of us. With a little boy in the midst of it all.

And apparently it is french. And I only point this out, because it centers around native Americans (don't roll your eyes, this has nothing to do with wokeness, I used to say Indians as well - I sometimes still do, old habits and what not). But while this is quite specific and I reckon inclusive in that regard .. it also is inclusive in the form that it is universal theme wise. A movie for kids, parents and everyone else. I reckon I should seek out more of this Yakari ... and there seems to be a lot more of him (sorry if I can't compare it to previous and/or other version that have been released, movie or (comic)book wise) ...

Never Look A Gift Horse In The Mouth...as they say!

Its a film adaptation of the Derib and Job comics and the 2005 French television series. Its a kind of coming of age story which shows how a young Sioux Indian boy, Yakari, becomes friends with the wild and non tameable stallion 'Petit Tonnerre' (Little Thunder). And along the way he wins his first feather of courage from his Spirit Guide, the Great Eagle.

Its a French, Belgian and German CGI animation collaboration, and it has a look and feel to it of the richly colour Disney movies of the early 20th century; but with a cleverly constructed 3D outlook!. The characters are superbly original and have both interesting and lovable screen time amidst the fantastic - and many - backdrop scenery. For me I think there is no doubt at all that children the world over will love this, and will make this one a cartoon classic (a lot of those children will be the grown ups who will lavish in old memories that it will stir up within them).

The reason I have given it an 8 star is down to my art background and a couple of (what I thought were) historical/technical errors. Not much to the many viewers I am sure but that's just me!

Strange how a french film would choose a Sioux tribe of America for this story as, they had nothing to do with each other during the time of the French and British wars of 1789 in Americas new world etc. The Indians who fought for/with the French were of the Algonquin, Huron, and Montagnais tribes.

Anyway go see this wonderful film and score big kudos with your kids!

This was deep

This movie all around was really good and right to the point it wasn't confusing in any way or misleading. It's definitely one of those films that I would recommend because the acting was good. The overall production was very well and the storyline was original in its own unique way. The beauty in independent films is shown when the entire cast and crew believes in the project. Overall, I gave this film two thumbs up because it kept my attention engaged and there weren't dull moments involved in anyway I for one I'm looking forward to some of the other projects that this Director has in store.
