Damon Beesley was the creator of The Inbetweeners. Now he takes a dig at young rich soccer players in The First Team.

It is not a promising of starts even though the BBC have enticed Will Arnett to play Mark Crane the football chairman of a lowly Premier League side.

The club has signed Mattie Sullivan from America only to discover that he does not even feature in the US National team. As contracts have been signed, Crane is stuck with him.

Mattie wants to know what the club's enigmatic note taking manager Cesare saw in him.

The first episode is Mattie bonding with Benji and Jack.

Benji is a young black player who is into fast cars, hot women and not able to afford his car insurance. Something the police notice.

Whereas Jack is baffled by his own fame. His mansion is almost unlived in and he is afraid even to buy toilet paper in case someone recognises him.

The target audience are teenagers who pay FIFA 20 and they would enjoy the hijinx between the players. I can certainly understand footballers buying flash cars to show off. It certainly needs to perk up more in the following episodes and we need to see more of Will Arnett.
