Very Shallow
jeshreel-sales14 March 2020
Story of a 20 something girl asking God to give her a Jowa (Love Partner) coz she needs it and deserves it so much.

The world doesn't revolve on having a Jowa. The movie's plot is so lame.

Everything else is just full of cheap corny tricks to make you laugh.

Some of the acting is good that's why I gave it 4 stars (mostly).

It's like a film directed by 2 person who couldn't decide which way to go and they reached their deadline so they had to release.
wenzeljay16 February 2020
This film clearly had it's potential I must say but it never failed to do 3 annoying flaws throughout the entire run.

  • Jokes and lines are genuine and funny but it overstayed it's welcome too much.
  • Lazy cutting. There are too many scenes where a audience is staring at this angle and for no good reason, there is a jump cut. Clearly, the cut is there because the actress/actor forgot the line.
-Extras act weirdly as if they are in a stage. This takes away the realism and reminds the audience that what's happening is just fiction.

Apart from the 3 flaws mentioned above, I had an issue with the Acts. Act 1 drags through the entire half of the runtime. It used up the entire half of the film to establish the character through repetitive jokes. There is no interesing incident that happens to the main character to push the plot to the next Act making this film looked like a 2 act story only. What's worse is that when we finally reach that interesting incident for the main character, all of a sudden the events keeps coming in rushed.

I have seen short films from the director and this film doesn't reflect the quality of those shorts.

Annoying, Corny, Terrible pacing.
bryandayak30 September 2019
The pacing of the movie was terrible. The characters were terribly annoying, unlikeable and unerelatable. The scenes were extremely drawn out, the comedy predictable and unfunny.

The sound editing was grating and badly mixed; The experience of having to listen to the constant bickering between the characters was akin to sitting out a storm under a rusted tin roof while razor blades rained down.

For a romcom movie, the constant and thoughtless use of jump cuts and voice overs make youtube videos look more than professional.

I have never seen a more terrible movie with a simple premise and message told in the worst way possible.

It was a battle not to leave the cinema outright.

Zero laughs from our group of 7.

#Jowable interesting review
jrpogi23 October 2019
The movie is all about "the new reality" of a solo parent in the perspective of the child. A coming of age movie that talks about relationship between the mother is keeps her mistake by providing all that she can to her child who is always looking for love. The movie quoted that we will find love in a package that maybe different from what we expected. If we just look closer the things that we always wanted is already in our life. Its just a matter of contentment. Looking for more will always leads in tragedy. The main actress executed her role very well with an amazing cast that provided a well deserved high approval.

Very shallow. Demeaning the true meaning of having a relationship
dennypoliquit24 March 2020
I regret to say I didn't finish the movie. The movie's message is giving the audience wrong views of what having a romantic relationship is like. The true meaning of having a relationship has been demeaned. Especially, the scene when the main character pleaded with God to give her a partner. Pleading God for a person to provide for her pleasure and shallow needs, and curiosity The envy she felt with her mother and friends for having their own partners. The main character reflects to most of the women of today's generation. Impatient, envious and liberated. Sex was highlighted in this movie. Sex doesn't complete a relationship! For a Christian woman, this movie is really offensive. And I'm not recommending this movie. But, If you decide to watch this then you can't watch this with your youngster just so if you want to save their innocence. I'm rating this movie out of my own personal perspective in life and how i see romantic relationships. It's sacred. It must be pure. And most of all, God is in the center of it. Always be patient. God is saving you from heartbreaks. For all the single women seeking for your true love, pray and pray. Pray for it. And God will surely answer your prayer. :)

#JOWABLE: THE UNBELIEVABLE FILM
yanvillapa25 September 2019
The way Darryl Yap's story in the movie #JOWABLE is so true! Not because he used it with natural words like swearing, Rated-13 scenes. That were offensive to others.

The movie #JOWABLE is a lesson for all and for teens or anyone (status) single or single at heart, because being in love is a long process in time.

Listen to Sister's lesson in the movie. And the performance of Ate Kim Molina really does justice as Elsa, because you can Let-it-go laugh and you gonna say the "P-word!" And this is the 'PAK' in the movie was the cast!

A SURPRISINGLY GOOD MOVIE
whtvrimelle21 August 2020
This movie is a heartfelt and surprising masterpiece. Jowable can give you cycles of emotions from the beginning to the end of the film. The story-line was superb in tackling real life situations and also entertaining because of the comedy and drama mixed together. There are a lot lessons to be learned from the film itself so it's worth watching.

Outdated Comedy Punchlines, Corny, Boring and Predictable.
zyrussoriano22 April 2020
Jowable by Darryl Yap aka the director and writer under the infamous Vincentiments: a group of young filmmakers who did tons of jaw breaking short films. They were very known with their wide shot cinematography and also because of some controversy about their insensitivity regarding their contents. To be honest at first I was really entertained by their short films but in the long run as they keep on doing the same formula over and over again, it is not effective for me anymore (in my perspective), so I was expecting that they will redeem themselves with this movie 'Jowable'. It's a catchy movie title, very trendy, trendsetter and I was interested when I've watched the trailer but I saw the movie, itself... I was disappointed, the story is lacking, the ending is too bad, lazy, forced and outdated, it was predictable. I didn't feel the character development of the main character at all, the jokes aren't landing, some of the actors performance were depicted in a bad way but kudos to the efforts, Kim Molina is a great actress and indeed talented but this is her down fall, the role doesn't suit her and really I just don't like the movie as a whole. I felt like I wasted my time watching. Congrats but good luck next time. not bad for a starter. I shouldn't expect that much. Anyways, it's just my opinion. Take it or leave it, the call is yours.

WASTE OF TIME, BORING
ARIANCUTE14 May 2020
I expected a lot because the movie title "Jowable" was catchy.

I expected it to be funny, entertaining and relatable. But nope. It was full of corny jokes.

I watched this at home on Netflix. If I watched this at the cinemas which would cost me 300 pesos, I'd rather sleep inside just to make my 300 worthy.

Really bad.
asistinmichael10 February 2022
It's annoying and bad.

The cast are kind of great but the whole plot, the script and the rest exactly is so bad.

Gusto kong sabihin na buti na lang maganda yung quality ng video.

If it's a food: walang lasang spaghetti or maasim na kanin.

Good one
Moviebility22 October 2022
I probably have not seen any movie that I can relate to at full extent. The movie showcasing the struggles of those who aren't "not-so-jowable", the defense mechanism whenever people start questioning you and the questions you have for yourself were there and I honestly appreciate every seconds of it including the message and the consequence if you are going to push and force your luck that much. However I don't like the movie's humor that much and I don't like Kim Molina's character that much -most of the time it's cringey.

For a Filipino movie this one is not predictable and I would say it's okay-ish. You just gotta have to lower your expectation if you're going to watch it.

Good Sincere Message, in Wacky Silly Package
daltaidan2 October 2019
By the beginning of the third act, it's no secret what the story of #Jowable is trying to convey. Some may not gravitate towards its heart-on-its-sleeve approach, but I was personally carried by its sincerity.

The writing is very play-like, with scenes populated by jokey dialogue, and lively interactions. The story itself may lack development and depth for a couple of characters, but as a whole, its very confident in what it wants to say.

I highly recommend this for youth, especially teens. It contains important themes for a culture as love-obsessed as the Philippines'. Apart from references, I'd say even families could watch this and connect on the message afterwards.

What on earth was that about?
hadzsocial29 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's the 21st century and we still have movies with cheap 90s quality, just in 4k.

It's about an NBSB woman who has a one-night stand with a random guy outside a church while it was raining. Which gets her pregnant. It was sprinkled with some futile attempts at depth like how friendship and family is important. That is all. There's no big aha here.

It's terrible. Many filmmakers still believe Filipinos will readily imbibe their garbage.

If I could puke this movie out and erase it from memory, I would.

#JOWABLE, what makes it great?
laProfessorX22 August 2020
Considering it's budget.

#JOWABLE's production is given an entry level budget considering the Philippines' film making standards for this masterpiece is writer and director Darryl Yap's debut. With the budget and it's blockbuster gross that surpassed the 100 million peso mark is one of the inevitable signs that this movie is not just a hit, but a great one.

The cinematography and editing

Through the lens of Director of Photography, Rain Yamson the story received a visual therapy that will give you the right feels of the film. After days of shooting, it's time for Editor, Vincent Asis to take this art piece come to life one step closer with his years of editing experience. So much more to tell about it such as musical scoring and other elements that made it entirely perfect. As a wrap, DOP Rain Yamson and Editor Vincent Asis together with Director Darryl Yap's blessing, undeniably did one great job.

The backbone of the film.

The story that originated from a viral short film on social media, from your mobile screen to the silver screen.

For sure, Viva Films undoubtedly trusted Darryl Yap up until now that his vision came to life. Years of hard work and dedication to the arts made this dream came to it's truthfulness.

The very thing that sets this film apart is the writer and director's bold, rare, truthful and brave approach and determination to tell untold stories the way they are supposed to be told-no sugar coating, no eye candies and one of my personal favorite, an ending that doesn't required to be twisted just to be a happy.

Instead it was given a treatment that will leave you contemplating your life right after the moment you left the cinema's chair.

#JOWABLE The Movie's backbone,

Darryl Yap, one of the greatest minds in the Philippine Film Industry today.

UNDENIABLY STATING THE TRUTH
lhancejeweel_lintag21 August 2020
This movie shows how this generation of single person's perception in their lovelife. It can go neither way planned or by fate. This opens the people to see life in a very factual way, that elsa's representing.

Great script, punchlines and it made me laugh hard and cried hard. 10/10

UNEXPECTED and REALISTIC!
bellaayeisiah22 August 2020
The message of the movie is very meaningful and is very relatable.

The storyline is far from common and is not your typical cliche romance movie.

The acting is also really good.

#REALISTIC
dyeykey21 August 2020
The movie show us that there's a time in our life that we've been too desperate and how impulsive we are just to feel how to be loved by someone else and without further knowing that the love that we're looking for was already exist, and you'll found it when the plot twist came into your life. To be honest, honest like the three dialogues here that will surely hit you hard and make realize such things in life. It was very realistic. I can also say that this movie was a Rollercoaster ride that makes you feel the ups and downs of the characters just like in real life, real scenarios, real stories of real people.

Jowable was an inspiring, eye and mind opener and very relatable movie not only for the youth, single, but for those people who feels like they will just ended by being alone.

Irreverently True and Meaningful
allanpaulvilla22 August 2020
Jowable is the mirror of people desperately LOOKING for "love".

The script was a catch as it tells the truth - vulgar and irreverent yet meaningful - things I always look for a film as relatability makes it good.

And the way Elsa's character was written and portrayed by Kim Molina was satisfying. I saw a lot of people in her, including myself.

Being one of a kind is magical but knowing that others also feel the same way as you is powerful. While inside the cinema I really thought that Elsa and I was sharing the same tub of bitterness brought by love. Elsa, in the portrayal of Molina was indeed impressive. Her lines were my inappropriate gags, my irreverent jokes and my political incorrectness which, I admit, should not be practiced. But I just love how the film was able to speak up in behalf of me. I really love how bold it was, something that's not new about the Director himself.

Also, the film showcased a wide acting range in comedy and drama which are BOTH effective. The transition of the event was promising. From irreverence, it suddenly became grounded with values. The confession scene between Elsa and her mother (portrayed by Kakai Bautista) was well-directed and well-acted - truly, love often makes people blind to what really matters in life.

Real hardcore comedy drama
bronzyme28 September 2019
Great performances. Very honest, swearing adds up to the realness of the story. Mom and daughter scene made me laugh and cry at the same time. #Jowable is more than just looking for a love one. Love is being overlooked sometimes, not in the form of having a boyfriend or girlfriend. This is a great movie
