I really liked it

Always wanted to get in to filippino movies, but its hard to miss jokes when you don't speak tagalog so good. So this was a very refreshing insight into filippino culture and stereotypes, and very hilarious at times.

Highly recommend it if you are curious about filippino culture.

A rather wholesome movie...
paul_haakonsen21 November 2021
First of all, I must say that the movie's cover/poster wasn't particularly inspiring or interesting to look at, so I almost skipped out on watching "The Fabulous Filipino Brothers". But I figured that I would sit down to watch this 2021 romantic comedy, as I hadn't already seen it before.

And luckily I did, because "The Fabulous Filipino Brothers" turned out to be a rather enjoyable movie from writers Arianna Basco, Dante Basco, Darion Basco and Dionysio Basco. Talk about keeping it in the family, huh?

The storyline in "The Fabulous Filipino Brothers" follows the lives of four brothers, as played by the four Basco brothers, and it was actually a rather interesting storyline. The writers managed to give each of the characters their own unique storylines and tying everything together in a good way, so the narrative that drove the movie had a natural feel to it.

"The Fabulous Filipino Brothers" has a good cast ensemble, and I will say that the Basco brothers definitely carried the movie quite well. I was a shame, though, that Arianna Basco didn't have a larger role to play in the movie, because she could definitely have spruced things up. And Liza Lapira simply stole the screen with her performance, as she was so well-cast for her role and delivered a spot on performance.

This movie brings a nice insight into Filipino-American culture and what it means to have an Asian heritage.

My rating of director Dante Basco's 2021 movie lands on a seven out of ten stars. I was definitely enjoying this movie and I was entertained from beginning to end.

badoy

Cringiest movie I've seen in a long time. And not in a quirky cheesy Filipino movie kinda way. Like so bad I want to throw my tsinelas at the TV bad. Everything try-hard corny from the bad acting (e.g. Dayo constantly OA "over acting"), horrendous soundtrack, sloppy directing (like dispose of the syringe that you didn't actually inject in the rooster, and that you were supposed to keep a secret but instead waived around in front of the nick c.), some scenes didn't even make any sense.

Pretty shots in the Philippines and Solenn are its only saving grace. Even though Solenn's accent clearly gives away the fact she didn't grow up in the States with Duke.

Really embarrassing movie to be honest.

Fabulous Frickin' Film!!

TOTALLY RECOMMENDED!! I saw this at a packed-house screening in Los Angeles and enjoyed it so much that I bought it here and watched it again with a group of friends. I literally laughed AND cried throughout the movie. This works as a movie to put on at a party as well as a perfect date-night flick.

It's a fantastic film about family-for adults, though teenagers will definitely dig it as well. Amazed that it's the director's first feature (as director). It's a mix of original vibes with some Scorsese, Jarmusch, Guy Ritchie, and even some early Farrelly Brothers flavors thrown in the mix. And while there's a focus on the titular brothers, the film gives the female characters their due-they are well-rounded and ultimately I feel there's a feminist/humanist heart beating right beneath the surface.

A seasoned and charismatic ensemble cast that's able to balance absurdist with grounded humor, along with sincere romance and flawed characters you can't help but love. Also, quotable af.

Bad acting and overall stupid movie
rbordon-6278625 June 2022
I really wanted this movie to be good since I'm Filipino but it was terrible. The acting and the overall story line is bad. This felt like a high school movie production.

Close enough

Good laugh trip. For some parts plots are missing. But I think this is one of one the best movie that portrays Filipino cultute and Filipinos themselves.

One of the worst but could be better
vennygonzaga5 December 2021
I am a Filipino and I think this movie is worse than the other worst Filipino movies. It is not funny at all, the script is ghetto wanna be's and the actors are terrible. The story is okay that is why it could be better.

It sounds like my cousins who lives in the US
pocketsunshineprintingph21 November 2021
It does portray most Filipinos who were raised in the Americas.

It shows the culture of how we try to stick together and even think of being responsible of everyone in the family. It also shows how it can be toxic but also how being in a close knit family be fun.

Zero entertainment value; went nowhere
todd-ramirez18 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Everything about this movie is bad. No. Everything about it is terrible.

If you're gonna put the word 'fabulous' in the title, automatically you overhype it and set the bar too high to even come close to. Granted that maybe it was part of a joke? But the movie fails at any semblance of humor it attempts. It was just...bleh. I dare anyone to laugh. I mean *really* laugh.

SPOILERS FOLLOW The scene with one of the brothers and a cousin getting it on using food as props was supposed to be comedy, right? If so, it fell flat. In fact, it backfired: it was cheesy, it showed no class, and it was disgusting.

The cockfight storyline also went nowhere and added no value.

The story about the affair in the Philippines - and the funeral - also did nothing to give any meaningful cohesion to the movie.

Oh if only I could get back the hour I wasted seeing this. I know the duration is 1.5 hours but I said 'hour' because I ended up constantly fast forwarding to end my misery.

This movie is one reason IMdb should allow a zero rating; it has that amount of entertainment value - zero. I have a hard time thinking of any movie that is worse.

I'm filipino and there's some truth to this..
ohgeexspidey7 May 2022
It's interesting to see your culture put onto the big screen. The only problem is, the movie became a bit "too hollywood." Like, the acting on this movie is just so awful, but it does capture relationships between family. Thats like the only redeeming quality of the movie. #justsayibg.

Smart and funny
tevandyke4 December 2021
This is a very well done and funny movie, well-written and directed. The opening scene is reminiscent of the nightclub scene in Goodfellas with a great tracking shot. Maybe not the definitive movie about Filipino American experience but very enjoyable and not on the least predictable story.

Poor representation of what it means to be Filipino/Filipino-American
kimberlytaylo12 September 2022
I'm all for a funny, stereotypical, cheeky cultural film that has the ability to poke fun at itself, but this was just plain offensive and stupid.

Truthfully, there are more tactful and meaningful ways to represent the Filipino culture, and as a Filipino-American, I found this entire thing to be in poor taste for the crass humor, storylines, ridiculous references, and ways of representing the Filipino culture externally. Not everything needed to be such a sarcastic farce of what it means to be Filipino or a Filipino-American. There's a lot of pride and a lot of opportunity to showcase the wonderful parts of our culture; this was NOT it.

Truthfully, I couldn't even finish the film. It didn't warrant even a single second more.

This is classic bay area filipino culture you either get it or you don't I liked it. It's far fetched and not for kids but it's hilarious. The movie had all the classic Filipino romance and humor .the food is awesome the one scene did molest some of the greats but was funny .

Enjoyable
erzbetwilson20 May 2022
I really enjoyed this little film. It was a perfect lazy day watch. I have always liked the Basco brothers (especially Dante aka Rufio). It was interesting watching the various brothers' stories play out. I'm not Filipino but I can relate to how diverse siblings can be and how different are the relationships. This is not a heavy film or something to watch if you're expecting pure comedy or pure drama. It is a mix of both. I do enjoy the Filipino perspective. My cousin is from Manila and I am going to be interested to hear his perspective.

This is a bad movie..
rcverano23 November 2021
For those who can't relate, but to those who can, especially the Filipinos - or to be exact the Filipino-Americans, this definitely hits home. Although lots of the perpetuated stereotypes might seem obtrusive or offensive but nonetheless offensively humurous and enjoyable. This is pretty much the Filipino take on spaghetti, it tastes funny and strange to the uninitiated. But to the Filipinos, there's nothing like it.

Warning: Spoilers
OMFG... ROTFL at so many scenes in this movie and was like DAMN at some of the twists. I loved how Lola stole the scenes she was in. I have mixed feelings about the food scene, because I'm craving Filipino food right now, but not in that way. 🤣 I'm about to go rewatch The Debut now.

Great story, super entertaining
michelleytyin28 February 2022
Loved the movie, loved the story, the family bond, and it was freaking entertaining. I really enjoyed the message that the Basco family was trying to tell and have the representation of the Filipino American story was told. Go out and watch it, but maybe not with the kids. 😆
