Abominable Sound Effects
omendata15 April 2020
The movie itself is low budget so expectations should be in line with that I always think when trying to do a fair review.

Photography was decent enough and did not look like a film student made it as one of the other reviewers has suggested and the gore scenes particularly the chin ripper scene was actually quite well done....however....

Unfortunately the thing that makes this movie hard to watch are the overdone music/sound effects they are very intrusive and sometimes dominate entire scenes and dialogue; its as if the director heard the sequence and was so impressed he decided to use the same musical sequence over and over again in every scene.

Add to that the poor acting, plodding pace and dull script this one is a bit of a lame turkey!

Other Abominables are available.
BA_Harrison24 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Not to be confused with the 2006 movie of the same name which also features a ferocious yeti (and is easily the superior of the two), this particular Abominable definitely lives up to its title -- a z-grade effort hampered by wooden acting, a weak script, uninspired direction, and a rubbishy monster (a man in a manky costume and a rubber mask).

The plot sees a group of people searching a mountainous region for a rare plant that possesses incredible curative properties. Unfortunately for them, the flower is protected by a savage yeti. Why is the yeti so unwilling to allow this miraculous plant to be taken? Search me... that's just one of the questions that arises from this shockingly bad movie...

How can you tell how old snow is by tasting it? What is 'old snow' anyway?

What are the characters talking about? Beacons, generators, triangulation signals, sonic pockets, anomalies: what a load of old cobblers.

Why have the scientists taped over the Apple logo on their laptop? Are they worried about copyright laws?

How does a massive snarling yeti sneak up on a person unseen? Is it a ninja yeti?

Will anyone be convinced by those awful After Effects muzzle flashes?

Is the yeti bulletproof?

Is shining a torch at the beast while shouting 'Hey!' really the most effective yeti deterrent? Does this trick work with other monsters?

Are the people supposed to be caught in some kind of time warp? Did I hear that correctly? If so, who came up with this garbage?

If the film is set in a godforsaken, virtually unreachable part of the world about to be cut off by a storm, where did the mountain ranger and rescue crew come from? Were they just passing by?

A few gory moments help to distract the viewer momentarily from the sheer awfulness of the script, acting and direction, the grisly highlight being a messy face-ripping, but there's not nearly enough splatter to compensate for the film's ineptitude. Watch the 2006 film instead (hell, even the 2019 Dreamworks film of the same name has got to be better than this)

It's so bad, I love it.
C2MC3 January 2021
I knew this was going to be a great experience when I immediately saw 2 random people wandering in the background of the "opening kill"... .

Abominable doesn't really have anything going for it. But I would argue that this is a "so bad, it's good"-movie. There's so many things wrong with it that I honestly had a smile on my face throughout the entire viewing.

Characters give weird exposition and try to build some story while I'm sitting there, wondering why the time of day changes 3-4 times over the course of 10 seconds. Scenes that were obviously supposed to be filmed during dusk or night are filmed in broad daylight but the characters act like it's dark as hell.

Random kills that add nothing. Plastic guns. Weird, hand-held camera movements that confuse the hell out of me.

I honestly enjoyed this movie. But is it bad in nearly every regard? Absolutely.

..it is. Horrific sound and some useless background music which maybe it's supposed to tell you when to feel scared.

Abominable by name and by nature.

Holy (insert swear word). I'm watching a film that I can only assume was off the back of a bet, the loser having to make it. Abominable is both the film title and my description of it.

Some good acting, but terrible plot. Never knew who exactly this team was, why they were there, where they were. Yeti in a rubber gorilla suite was throw back to 50s. Pretty cheesy. And the why the nemesis went rogue never made sense.

Abominable film

Cliché of other films of its kind , only thing less wooden than the acting are the trees. 1960's special effects and dramatic choral music throughout.

Ridiculous
thomgoodwin26 August 2022
Now I love a bad horror movie, but this is just bad. "Old Snow" she says by tasting it... and I'm pretty sure at one point one of them said the wrong line, then corrected themselves and they left both in 😂 something along the lines of "Strict orders, I mean Direct orders".

It's almost like someone watch Anaconda 2 and thought "Hmmm a plant that cures illnesses, I'm going to copy this but instead of snakes in a tropical jungle I'll make it a Snow movie with a Yeti who can't blink or close his mouth".

I don't know what Viktir Ackeev did to the editor, but his name was the only one not in capitals. Poor bloke.

My Review Of "Abominable"
ASouthernHorrorFan8 May 2020
"Abominable" is really low budget and a lot of the continuity seems muddled with poor production choices. I never like to come out and say a movie is bad, A lot of work and heart goes into movie making, even the low budget projects so I feel every film deserves a once over.

With this one, it was hard to get into the story, and the story isn't a bad one. A science team seeking to uncover the miracles of a special plant, reminiscent of the classic "Werewolf Of London". A yeti that is guarding the location and vicious enough to kill any and all who trespass. It is a cool story. Unfortunately there is just a lot that goes wrong.

Poor editing, the sound effects, and really bad shots of the creature that shows the suit is way to big for the actor wearing it. Now minus the "gamer" level CGI, I do give props to some decent practical effects moments. But there just isn't enough going on in "Abominable" that works out right.

Watch out for the yeti
Woodyanders15 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A research team who are looking for a rare magical plant in the Himalayas run afoul of a lethal predatory yeti (Timothy Schultz in a funky suit).

Director Samaal Burden keeps the enjoyably inane story zipping along at a snappy pace, makes nice use of the snowy sylvan landscape, delivers a handy helping of graphic gore, and stages the brutal murders with grisly go-for-it aplomb. Moreover, the acting from the competent no-name cast is generally acceptable while the tight 72 minute running time ensures that this flick never gets dull or overstays its welcome. A fun Grade-B creature feature.

'Snow is snow.'
parry_na4 June 2021
'Yeti/Abominable' wastes no time with build-up or character development; we can deal with all that once the threat has been established - which it is, straight away. We catch up later with the various personalities and back-stories of the characters later on during a lull in the varied attacks from the white furred central character.

The soundtrack is very exciting, even if it is so far over-the-top compared to some of the action/gore scenes, it threatens to drift into parody. For all his low-budget scariness, there are moments where the audience is invited to empathise with the Yeti, and there are some good twists in the story.

Whilst never attempting to reinvent the shaggy monster myth, this is a commendable production, featuring some good, crisp location filming and moments of gut-wrenching gore. Despite some occasionally dodgy acting, I enjoyed it. My score is 7 out of 10.

More film makers should have this kind of consideration
clivejamesrd18 August 2020
The name of this movie does double duty as both the title and the one word review. And I gotta say, that's a really neat move. I hope this becomes a trend within the industry. This review contains no spoilers, because the entire movie, from start to finish, is spoilt.

Yes. Believe the reviews. It's pretty bad. Cool Joe Castro gore though.
Jester22227 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
.......Old snow?? Apparently you can tell its age by tasting it!? Who knew. Ha ha Lame yeti costume with sleeve cuffs clearly visible. Cringe Zero tension.

Bullet proof ninja yeti can sneak up on anyone and is seemingly unkillable with automatic weapons.

Overly long scenes padded out to improve run time.

Repeated music ad nauseam.

Supposed to be middle of nowhere but just looks like skmeknes back garden. Ha ha Average acting, bad sound fx dubbed so loudly and even worse digital FX. Clearly first time they've used the software.

Bless em for trying but it's not really worth watching.

Shouting HEY and shining a torch will stop it in its track apparently.....clearly both scenes were shot at different times as when shes holding torch it's still clearly light, yeti is in darker setting. Ha ha continuity!!!

Head supposedly bashed against tree looks so poorly done, not even close to touching tree and simply embarrassing.

Theres a couple of fun gory bits by the ever awesome Joe Castro, Jaw ripped off is very cool. And a nice neck bite. And face torn away, smashed spine mess......but its not enough to keep the film from dying a miserable death.

Film would have been better as an half hour short film, better pacing and just cram more gore in.

Fast forward to the gore.

Extra points for Joe Castro FX.

Could've Been A Dcent B Movie, But Wasted Potential
Jefferson_Jensen7 March 2023
Right around the onset of the 2020 pandemic I was at a Walmart with some friends browsing the DVD section where I first laid eyes on the intense cover art of this movie. All intensity stopped there. I expected an action packed adventure movie against a ferocious yeti in a barren landscape. Instead, this movie drones on and on with personality-less characters talking to each other in low murmurs that you can barely hear sometimes. On top of that, the camera work is shoddy, often times actors have the tops of their heads cut out of frame, and only half of the footage is color graded. Some scenes will look cinematic, on par with a T. V. movie and some look like raw footage shot by an amateur. The yeti effects look cool, but only in small amounts. In jaws you barely see the shark, in monster movies the makeup is dim lit to hide any flaws. But this movie hold the camera on the yeti for way too long in broad daylight, revealing the monster to be a rubbery costume in an obvious way. Don't get me wrong, there were some good things about the film, such as a few standout performances by Katrina Mattson as our heroine or Robert Berlin who is goes all in and chews on the scenery, in a really great way. But then you see other performances like the character "Pete" (Justin Moy) and you wonder how this movie even got released. I saw this with a friend and at one point "Pete" blurts out a whole sentence so fast that it's all incomprehensible, causing my friend to yell at my T. V. and say "did the director yell cut after take 1 ?" which is a fair question. There's some decent performing here, and some potential with this story, but the lackluster camera work/editing/lighting leads me to believe that this production simply hired the wrong director for the job.

Never was a title more appropriate
mpapette19 September 2021
Everything is abominable about this movie: the script, the acting, the dialogues, the score, the visual effects, the cameraworks, everything. I wouldn't rate it any higher even if this was the work of some amateur filmmakers at their first attempt. But the worst part of all is that someone in Japan decided that this movie should be shown in cinemas and charge people for it.

Another worst horror film! Too slow, and full of boring conversation! The killing scene also not intense at all! Not recommended!
kwenchow12 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This film start with a man holding a bottle with a plant in it, attacking by a Yeti, and a bunch researchers gather in a office scene! As turnout, this film is about a bunch of researchers need to save Dr. Smith(who want to obtain the Yeti plant to cure cancer) from the killing of a Yeti! All the shooting scene in the film just hear the sound, never show the bullet, and never show hitting the opponent! Make the film unwatchable! The killing scene just show the gore part, never show the killing scene in detail! Barely intense scene is, the Yeti constantly hitting Robert! At the end, just Sarah survive from the killing of the Yeti! That's it! Wasting time to watch!

We're being followed
nogodnomasters21 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Dr. Martin leaves a horrible tape recording in a remote location. An extraction team has been sent in, but they are late. Dr. Smith is looking to get the yeti plant with its curative properties. One guy wants to shoot the yeti, you would think they would work together, but they don't.

The soundtrack was a replaying of the same rift over and over again attempting to build tension. It just got annoying. Acting and dialogue were bad. We do see the yeti up close while many scenes were "White Fang" style where we just see the hand and Soupy Sales fighting him off. The attempt to make this a timeless isolated place didn't work.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

Poor direction, unfortunate camera angles, boring sets...
tailsofthewind9 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The Yeti looked as if it was wearing in inside-out fat suit, in that it was "appropriately" fleshed-out, and pink, then had white hairs, etc. Added.

Some scenes very Ed-Wood-like. Two actors would be talking and the camera's view would be a low oblique look behind one of them, completely obscuring both faces, and almost all of the second actor. Meanwhile, the left side of the frame is just a shot of the plain, white boring cabin wall.

Shooting out in the freezing forest can be a challenge, no doubt, but keeping the viewers interested is a must, and watching actors disappear behind the ONLY tree between the camera and where the actor stepped, is eye-rolling, and should have been left on the cutting room floor.

Finally, watching another white man looking to get rich with "man's last great hunt" the "big show" the (in this case) abominable snowman that will make him richer, "far richer than" blah blah blah gag barf...

Abysmal writing only gets worse when he shoots the creature and starts in with the "I did this to you! I beat you! Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! I beat you! Look at me!"

Such lazy writing, don't you think? And the creature kills him anyway.

Duh.

Seriously??
johannes2000-119 March 2021
Was this a joke, or maybe a failed parody? It's hard to believe that anyone involved was content with the result, let alone proud of it. I kept checking the year of production: it really says 2020, but it easily could have been 1980. What can I say? The script was chaotic, with head nor tail, the characters were uncharismatic and interchangeable, the acting was basically non-existent. And the pivotal monster was an all too obvious person in a cheap fluffy suit. The whole production had this dull and lacklustre veil hanging over it, everyone seemingly going through the intended motions without any spirit or conviction. The only positive thing was the occasional gore, which was quite well done. But that had earned a much better vehicle, in this amateurish movie now even that fell ignominiously flat.

One of the funniest films of all time. Its basically a fella in fluffy white pj's stalking and killing terrible actors. Do not for one second think this is horror or even attempting to be horror. But it is a must see, effects and acting are so funny!!! Brilliant.

Solid and enjoyable if somewhat flawed killer Bigfoot effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder29 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Heading off into the wilderness, a research team looking for the previous team sent to find a mystical flower used for various potential medicinal cures, but when they find evidence a homicidal killer bigfoot is in the area hunting them one-by-one they try to stop it to leave the area alive.

For the most part, this one wasn't all too bad. Among the better features is the rather straightforward and to-the-point storyline that offers up some enjoyable aspects. Starting off without having to go through the time-wasting sources of team-gathering and location-traveling instead this one immediately gets the crew together discovering the source of the previous missions' failures and the strange manner of what happened to them that needs to be investigated. Given the overall brevity of the film and the immediacy of them being dropped into the situation in this manner, this shortcut manages to inject some ingenuity into this one by cutting to the chase of the mission as soon as possible. The other fun aspect here is the creature action and effects work. Words cannot express how gratifying and satisfying a practical Bigfoot on-screen is, and the design is effective and realistic for the environment, making good use of partial reveals or shadowy glimpses in the distance. That provides plenty of great encounters here, from the ambush on the escaping team meers in the clearing, a superb stalking amongst a grove of trees or a chase through a snow-covered section of the woods while the victim continually fires back. That there's a nice show of encounters in the second half that provide plenty of action and brutal practical gore effects, from limbs ripped off, a head smashed, flesh bitten out and much more. These here are what hold this one up as this one does have some minor flaws. One of the main factors here is the somewhat rambling and scattershot first half that seems to jump around somewhat to the various members of the team in a random manner. There's never a sense of where anyone is or what they're doing when they encounter the creature as they spend most of the time rambling around the woos when it shows up unexpectedly which can be disorienting or losing track of time when it's impossible to have any time and space differential to their activities. This sense of randomness also accounts for the line dropped explaining the creatures' existence as a by-product in a throwaway line that might be missed altogether. As well, there's also the wholly underwhelming and completely expected final half twist that doesn't need to be there. This setup is completely telegraphed from the very second the characters' backstory is revealed that will eventually be the one to turn, and to do so with any kind of lame and underwhelming reasoning that is expected to carry what happens here gives this a lot to be turned off. It doesn't strike as any kind of surprise and just serves as an excuse to set up the final confrontation that could've happened in another way that didn't resort to an easily-telegraphed plot-twist that doesn't serve as a plot-twist in that regard. These here are what hold the film back the most.

Rated Unrated/R: Extreme Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.

Yeti (2021)
vengeance2010 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Was wondering if this would be a good watch or not as you can't tell from Straight-To-DVD Films.

The film follows a group of hunters out in the wilderness looking for a plant that cures cancer but encounter a blood thirsty Yeti!

The films plot itself is simple, but then in fact, the plot itself is little to non existent & pretty boring. There's no build up or bad story before the main part of the film kicks in with the Yeti. The characters themselves a paper thin & boring, the dialogue is crap also. The sound effects are cheap and some what fake sounding. The gore however, was pretty good but that is it!

The films runtime was stupidly short! 1 hour & 5 minutes!? There could've been a beefed up story, a build up at the start & of course some character development in there also to distinguish the charters & make them more interesting!

Boring film! 2/10

About 17 minutes into this movie, you can tell the "Yeti" was wearing a jacket, coat, whatever. You could see the end of the sleeve at the wrist.
