R Madhavan and Aparshakti Khurana Starrer Dhokha Suffers From Weak Story and Screenplay !!!
cs_rahul_prasad18 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie cuts straight to the chase, and during the opening song, one discovers that once loved-up, Yatharth Sinha (R Madhavan) and Sanchi Sinha (Khushalii Kumar) are now on the verge of separating. After a fight, when Yatharth goes to work, a Kashmiri terrorist on the run, Haq Gul (Aparkshakti Khurana), invades their home and takes Sanchi hostage. When Yatharth sees this on the news and rushes back to the apartment complex, he meets ACP Harishchandra Malik (Darshan Kumaar) and tells him that Sanchi is mentally ill and dangerous when she has an episode. Sanchi, on the other hand, tries to persuade Haq that her husband is trying to prove her crazy as he's having an extramarital affair with her psychiatrist.

The situation is similar with Haq Gul and ACP Malik, as they give contradicting versions of the former being a terrorist and a bomb blast accused. Throughout the movie, the audience guesses who's telling the truth.

A suspense thriller that relies on situations and dialogues, and is primarily shot in one location, must engage you enough to sit with rapt attention. Director Kookie Gulati's outing leaves much to be desired on this front. The movie becomes monotonous and repetitive quickly, though it picks up pace in the second half when things turn more confrontational. The big plot twist may seem mind-bending only to viewers unfamiliar with the genre; the turn of events is rather predictable. The tracks, characters and backstories are not developed enough to be convincing or impactful.

The above is especially true for Sanchi's character, who suffers from a delusional personality disorder. The audience only has her husband and psychiatrist's word to take for it, and just one incident hints at her condition. There's a scene where Yatharth says that Sanchi can manipulate someone to get what she wants, and that's her mind's vulnerability. Before you can appreciate this perspective, Malik asks if it's vulnerability or skill, and the two men chuckle. This and showing Sanchi as someone who's either manipulative or distressed owing to her condition does a disservice to people with mental illnesses, especially those with personality disorders that are seldom understood adequately.

That being said, as a debutante, Khushalii Kumar pulls off the dichotomous act as a delusional, manipulative and seductive housewife and a volatile woman well. Aparshakti is impactful as Gul and emotes effortlessly whether the character is angry, disillusioned or befuddled and helpless. He does justice to the Kashmiri twang and looks. R Madhavan and Darshan Kumaar are good, but this is neither actor's finest performance.

Dhokha: Round D Corner is far removed from reality and pivots from the conventional form of phsychological thrillers, and not in a way director Kookie Gulati had hoped for.

Round D Corner tries to marry human depravity with the concept of alternative reality, but executed from the standpoint of a child lost in a candy store. The dialogues are cringy, the cinematography is cringy, the script is pointless and the so-called conflicts in the film feel forced and are absolutely hilarious for a psychological thriller.

Timepass

Sameer lodaya

The movie is just timepass which you can really afford as it's a 100 rs week

After so much of thrill watching on ott it doesn't surprises you much and becomes very easy to judge the climax

The new girl in town khushali has stealth the show she looked gorgeous and have acted very well probably she was the best within all the others actors in the film aparshakti was also good

After some time you feel dragged as the story was rotating in same axis and then as usual they rush in climax

If you get to see in 100 rs it's worth or else wait for digital release..I hope Bollywood continues this 100 rs trend to drag people in theatres.

Difficult to Watch
mohinderchugh18 November 2022
I fail to understand why there is so much high ratings for a movie like this. I understand now that.when producer can spend 20 cr on this lousy movie they can always spend few lacs for farzi reviews and ratings. Generally in a thriller movie like this we expect lot of tense moments. There is. No thrill or tension. There is no chemistry between lead characters. Story is very week and not suitable for a suspense or thriller movie. You keep om watching the movie because you feel that it is a suspense thriller movie so you keep on waiting for the end to come. When the end comes you feel cheated. If you are fan of suspense thrillers than you must have watched better movies. Just to show a twist in the tale you can not make write childish and unbelievable stories.

An intriguing thriller that succeeds in entertaining you despite some shortcomings.
Perspicuity123 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Dhokha is an extremely entertaining thriller that had me intrigued throughout it's runtime. There are of course some shortcomings in the story, but that didn't affect the overall impact this movie had on me. Right at the beginning of the film, I was quite relieved to see that the director didn't waste time in setting things up and got to the point in just five minutes by telling us the backstory through a song. Throughout the movie I kept wondering as to what kind of film would this turn out to be, and every time I thought alright maybe that's the direction this story will take, it surprised me with an unexpected twist. It almost feels like this movie was made keeping in mind the audience of today, people who have a short attention span, because the screenplay does not follow a predictable path and reveals itself in an episodic manner with a cliffhanger at the end.

It's impossible to imagine Indian movies without songs, and I totally agree that this is one area where we shouldn't take inspiration from Hollywood or other International films, which are made without songs; but there are certain films, like this one, in which songs only end up blocking the flow of the story and so they need to be avoided at all costs, and I am really glad that the director of this film kept the focus entirely on the characters and their story and didn't allow any kind of musical distractions during the film. There is a song right at the beginning of the film and one right at the end, but nothing when the story is unfolding itself.

Ayushman Khurana has proved his talent time and again but his brother Aparshakti hasn't been so lucky with the opportunities, up until this film. For the first time, as far as I know, Aparshakti got to play the main lead and he performed brilliantly. Normally, Aparshakti only gets to play underdeveloped supporting roles, but here the focus was on him and the role had enough meat in it, for him to sink his teeth and showcase his acting skills, and he did not disappoint. I had no expectations from Khushali Kumar, simply because it's common knowledge that she was finalized for this film because of being Bhushan Kumar's sister, who happens to be one of the producers of this film; but I was pleasantly surprised by her performance in the film. Khushali was very convincing as a sensuous seductress as well as a helpless woman experiencing a difficult marriage. Khushali, who looked absolutely gorgeous in every single frame of the film, managed to express all the complex emotions associated with her character through her face; a skill that I did not expect an actress like her to have. Surprisingly, Madhavan did not have a lot to do in the film; he was pretty much the supporting actor in this story. Although he was fantastic as Yathaarth, I would have loved to see him play a more active role in the film. Darshan Kumar, an amazingly talented actor, did very well as Harishchandra.

Talking about the shortcomings, I could not understand how Riyaaz Gul got hypnotized by Saanchi every time she seduced him. Regardless of how trained or untrained he was, it can be said with certainty that he wasn't a child, and it's not possible for a grown-up man to get hypnotized like that. Also, the Police action was quite strange, because they were quite aware that Riyaaz had just one pistol and yet they never bothered to go upstairs and overpower him. There were so many officers in that area and not one of them questioned the strategy of Harish ?

I liked the theme of the film, which was also shown using the example of news channels. Truth has been buried and forgotten, while lies and deceits are walking free with a big smile on their face. There are very few takers for the truth told in a gentle and simple manner, but a lie told repeatedly and loudly is accepted as the truth and is loved and pampered by everyone. The real terrorist may not always be the one getting punished, some of them are bombarding your mind with false stories filled with hatred, every day from their air-conditioned studios in the form of news. This movie not only had an interesting story but also managed to do some social commentary through it, and I think that was truly praiseworthy. Cinema has the power to reach a large number of people and I think it should be used wisely, because with great power, comes great responsibility.

Twists and turns galore !! Aparshakti Khurana rocks !!
sanjubhat25 September 2022
Film review: Dhokha round D corner #sanjuzzreviews #DhokhaRoundDCorner #rmadhwan #AparshaktiKhurana

Wow .. It is really raining suspense thrillers this weekend!!

Dhokha round D corner is a movie filled with a lot of twists and turns. The action starts from the word go with Aparshakti Khurana, a terrorist on the run from the police taking a housewife Khushali Kumar hostage. She is unfortunately delusional with a personality disorder. Is the terrorist actually the bad guy here or is it the lady. There are various versions of the story told from the perspective of each character, but only one of them is true.

This is Aparshakti Khurana's film all the way. His character of the terrorist has many shades to it and hats off to him for getting everything bang on. R Madhavan as the lady's husband is okay but he is reduced to playing second fiddle to Aparshakti. His role could've been played by any other actor. Darshan Kumar as the police officer and Khushali Kumar have performed decently.

This is a fast paced movie with a lot happening in a very short duration. Add to that the story moves back and forth in time with a lot of flashbacks shown to define the back story of each character. However as it is a short film with a runtime of 2hrs 2 mins it also ends up leaving some questions unanswered. Some scope of improvement for the makers.

All in all a decent one-time watch !! A notch lower than "Chup: Revenge of the Artist" .

Worth a dekho nevertheless, either in theatres or on Netflix when it streams eventually.

3/5 from me .. Adios 🙂!!

Khushali hi Khushali!!
nadkarnisumeet24 September 2022
Dhokha Round D Corner review :

Going in with nil expectations, Dhokha turned out to be a decent surprise for me specially at ticket price of just seventy five bucks on National Cinema Day (September 23rd). The crowd was majorly college youngsters who were hooting loudly whenever the heroine's pallu dropped... and that happens quite often through the movie!! Reminded me of the front benchers in the bygone single screen era..

A supposed suspense thriller; Dhokha is more a launch pad for Khushalii Kumar who not only looks ravishing in a saree but also makes a super confident acting debut in Bollywood. She plays a delusional housewife who is taken hostage by a terrorist (Aparshakti Khurana) in her own home even as her marketing executive hubby (Madhavan) and the investigating cop (Darshan Kumaar) are right outside discussing the rescue strategy over a cigarette.

Suffering from personality disorder, the curvaceous lady seduces the terrorist and makes him fall in love with her. All this while, we are told hubby dear is no plain Jack and is carrying on affair with his wife's psychiatrist. Oops!!

The basic theme seems inspired from Rajesh Khanna's Ittefaq (1969) which had a runaway mental patient seeking refuge in a lonely lady's home. Having said that, director Kookie Gulati shows improvement over his past endeavors Prince (2010) and The Big Bull (2021). He successfully manages to keep the suspense alive right till the end. In fact, the climax is a high point of the movie making you overlook some of the pace drops in the middle. Technically, the film looks rich even with a tight budget and a single location of a typical Mumbai apartment.

Of the cast, Aparshakti Khurana acts competently and gets the Kashmiri accent right. Surprisingly, Madhavan appears lost here. I have never seen Maddy so disinterested. Darshan Kumaar is just about okey dokey.

Finally, Dhokha belongs to debutant Khushalii Kumar and the gorgeous actor goes all out to make it her own. Exposing uninhibitedly, she literally chews up all her male cast to emerge the most memorable aspect of the film.

A parting advice : Hang on till the end credits roll for the awesome remix of Zooby Zooby song from Dance Dance (1986). It's a paisa vasool number!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

Waste of time
loved-8471520 November 2022
Don't watch completely waste of time. 0 acting skills , 0 story line, 0 for setup. Madhwan was overacting. This could be a descent movie but no . Police was just wasting time whe time. You can notice guns were fake like Ak47. The kidnaper was on window most of the time , they could have shot him but no they were just sitting with their fake guns. Big disappointment by the movie. Trailer of the movie was looking promising but if you see the movie that is totally disaster. I'm giving 2 star for just last 10 minutes otherwise whole movie is not at all worth. Give me a like if you agree with me. Thank you.

quite interesting story with ups and downs
sharmaujjwal-3495823 September 2022
The story was good enough an suspenseful and as was the acting of madhwan sir.... the story may seem to be slow at some point but other scenes will keep your interests alive throughtout the movie..... as interesting take on the relationship between individuals, their situations and motives, with a thriller angle makes it different. However, the viewer could have been served with some more drama and action to thicken the plot.it ventures into the 'not-so-happy' zone where the latter asks for a divorcce.....A film like Dhoka: Round D Corner needs to keep you on your toes with the tension in the air. Sadly, that doesn't happen here. Kookie tries to tie the loose ends of the film by lifting the curtains from the multiple perspectives to lie bare some 'dhokas' revolving around the characters in the film. The revelations are dripped in deceit and bring in the shock element in the storytelling. But by them, too many yawns have been induced to care any longer. The caricature-like portrayal of media does no good either. Some of the dialogues are frivolous.

Aparshakti Khurana stole the show...
darkwizard40418 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was a good and enjoyable thriller. Goes to show how the truth is often ignored and how the lie is often more believable than the truth. Performance wise, Aparshakti Khurana outshined everyone in this movie. He played the misunderstood terrorist very well. Good to see him getting good roles like this. In my opinion he is a far better actor than his older brother. Madhavan was great in his role as usual. Darshan Kumar played his part very well as the cop.

Overall the movie is an enjoyable thriller even though it is quite predictable. The only flaws were the unnecessary songs without which, the movie runtime could have easily been reduced and the unnecessary romance between the terrorist and the housewife. It was quite unrealistic for the terrorist to be imagining her in the mental hospital near the end.

Complete Waste of Time
omanuragsw19 November 2022
No thrill or suspense about the movie. From the very start it went down the slope. The whole idea around the story was quite predictable and the follow ups was also not up to the mark.

If someone doesn't have any movies to watch for - they can give it a try. However would recommend not to go for it.

The biggest disappointment was the role of Aparshakti Khurana - someone with a natural accent would have done a better role for Gul, as throughout the movie, it seemed like overacting and even the dialogues was mundane.

The actress is without doubt the shining light in the movie.

Wouldn't recommend to watch.

Don't bother with the psuedo intellectual reviews!
laidbacklinens23 September 2022
A bit predictable, yes but throughly entertaining fun ride. Aparakshit Khurana, Maddy and the new girl all were terrific 👍. Dialogues could be better, nevertheless the premise and back stories had me hooked.

Watched it for 75 bucks on a Friday afternoon on National Cinema Day and the theatre was packed. The movie i believe will grow on word of mouth. The wannabe critics from sobo/ south Delhi and trashy YouTube channels needs to calm down with their catty headlines. Because at the end of the day that's what they are, and let me not start about those clickbait thumbnails from cringe uncouth YouTubers.

Stay away from all this and watch it yourself. It's no usual suspects so don't expect too much, but when did it claim to be one!

A great attempt but there could be some room for more
thefilmophile26 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I honestly think, this movie should have had something that was supposed to be a mystery, which would simply give the plot some volume. There were no cringy dialogues, perfect representation of mental illness, the want of lust, the continuity details.

The title of the movie can improve a lot, I bet most of the people refused to watch it just by the title. This is best acting I've seen of Aparshakti Khuranna so far, could have avoided the accent though.

The plot was okay, could have worked on character development, and also can't complain the screenplay and cinematography.

Honestly I did not expect the movie would be about Inspector Malik all along.

Definitely one time watchable. Climax felt like a classic Whodunnit type.

You should be a hard core Madhavan fan to like this movie
chethantj19 November 2022
One thing u can say is that story is interesting and has got some twist. But that's what is all you will get The acting, the characters everything falls widely short of expectations. Through out the movie it feels like you are watching something in a studio.

I am still surprised to see a rating of 7+ when I am posting mine.

If there is one person you would expect a good performance it would be Madhavan, but looks like he has lost his passion for it when you watch him here. If someone is watching him for the first time trust me they will not watch another movie of his :) This is bringing down the bar of Bollywood rather than taking it up!!

Could have been better, but still ok to watch
hbsopen16 April 2023
Has a very narrow story line. Setup in just almost one location, movie focuses only on the story with not many distractions.

Does keep you guessing. It definitely had a potential to great movie. Khushali kumar has acted ok and so did the inspector, strangely Madhavan was very bland. Acting is an area where the movie could have done better.

If you are pressed for time and watch only the best of best then this is not a movie for you. But if you are like me who wants to try different type of movies and like to watch more movies than average person, perhaps you will like this one.

There are some heavy negative reviews, this is not if you are a connesieur. Ok for a streaming service price .. certainly not a movie that you would want to go and watch in theater!

What a dhoka... 😱
yusufshaikh-2546514 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film really deserves to be watched, the beginning is very simple, but the film takes a different turn as soon as you see it. There lives a housewife who is mentally ill. But it is revealed in the ending of the film that it is her husband who makes her ill, 😂 but the most powerful scene is when it is revealed that the policeman is more concerned than the husband that his secret should not be revealed to the public. That's why he releases the accused and says that go and kill us Ms, Sinha, I will save you from the death sentence. But in spite of all this, Gul was dragged into all of them without doing anything as per the wrong scene of the film. He was saved from hanging, but he got a bigger punishment than that, he got the punishment of loneliness in love. This scene was a bit emotional 😢 And the best acting in it r, Madhavan's. And was of immense power. Actually everyone did a great job. Ultimately, this film intrigued me.

One time watch
ketanjrsharma28 November 2022
The acting of Madhavan was not at par with his level. Somehow he was not completely in the character. On the other side Khushali has done a real good job.

Storyline was a little obvious and I could make out the angle half way through. You can watch it once to get the bollywood masala.

The hidden or subtle message from the movie however is good and the same thing is happening in real life too.

Storyline was designed in a good way and direction was good too but too many loopholes and goofs will make you find it a little funny at many times. If you dont have anything else to watch in suspense give it a try.

Don't fall for fake reviews.. a total waste movie
manojjain-3434021 November 2022
I am very surprised to see so much positive reviews and high rating for such a useless and waste movie on the name of a crime-thriller. There is no suspense or thrill in the movie. From the beginning of the movie there are two versions of the story being depicted and in the climax one version shown to be true. Difficult to believe that such a fine actor like R. Madavan choose this kind of movie.

Story and screenplay is very weak. The only takeaways are Madhavan's performance and the beauty of the actress but still these things were not able to lift the movie. I suggest others not to waste their time on this pathetic movie.

Nice Suspense Thriller
upadhyaytrishna26 September 2022
It was a very good movie....

Unexpected turns .... In First half you will get confuse whether husband is right or wife is right but after interval you will get the clues and ultimately in the last 20 minutes "Boom"..

R madhavan sir is fantastic in movie as always and I really liked that he did a totally different role from his last movie (Biopic on Nambi narayan sir) .. And Aparshakti OMG ! He was mind blowing I did not expected that he can do serious roles as well.. Darshan did a great job (Happy to rewatch him after kashmir files).. and the khushali kumar she was brilliant..

This 4 characters made the movie great...

Loved the movie and who is planning to watch this movie they must go for it without a 2nd thought.. One time watchable without regret.. The plot keeps you hooked..

You will not regret believe me except in case if you like "love storyian" of bollywood..

Don't be deceived by the reviews!
Movies-On-Weekend18 November 2022
The most stupid movie I've even. It is beyond me how people are writing 600 words reviews appreciating this lame and senseless movie.

I wonder what was the director thinking when he decided to make this movie. Total waste of Madhvan's talent. The heroine at times is looking like Sri Devi - the 53 yr old version... I don't see why the heroine was dressed so seductively that also in the morning.

There was a continuity isues as well. My advice would be don't waste your time this lame senseless film. It has been marketed as a suspense thriller however their is neither any suspense nor thrill in this stupid movie.

We need more suspense thriller like this
keeranilchouhan3 October 2022
I did not expect much from this movie and that's the reason I enjoyed it a lot. If you like to watch movies with amazing twists and turns, this is for you.

Ayushman Khuran's brother (sorry I forgot his name) did amazing work as Gul. He truly stole the show. This movie had actors like R Madhvan and Darshan Kumar and they did good too. The female lead could have done better.

The twist in the end really surprised me. I would say you can go for it without thinking twice.

This film should have worked at the box office because we need more movies like this in bollywood, which are seen rare now a days.

Potential wasted!
SoumikBanerjee199619 November 2022
The film did have potential, the script had not one but numerous opportunities to encash the positives, but it couldn't, or should I rather say it did not want to. The anecdote in itself was not half bad, as can be noticed in the last act, where the film seeks redemption but alas! It was already too late.

It would have easily been a decent, serviceable movie, but what made it poorer was its inferior screenplay and an even weaker direction. As well as the lousy, over-the-top performances. I never would have imagined that I will have to see a talented man like R. Madhavan delivering one of if not the worst acts to date.

Quite similar remarks apply to both Aparshakti Khurana and Darshan Kumar as well. I refrain from criticizing Khushali though because it is her debut role and I strongly believe in giving chances, thus, we will have to wait and see her in at least one more work to come to any sort of judgment (in respect of her capacity as an actor).

But the names that I mentioned before are in the industry for years, thus their performances should be criticized accordingly.

swetabanerjee21 November 2022
Good actors and bad script. Don't waste your time watching this super bad movie. I watched this movie based on the good ratings and reviews, but this a very poorly made thriller which is too long and too boring even to watch in an OTT platform.

R Madhavan's acting is so bad that you from his body language that he was not interested to be a part of this movie.

Apashakti Khuranna is nice but the script is awful with a dumb storyline which literally makes no sense.

T-Series has a massive reach globally, they can create good content with good directors and technicians. Hopefully, we get some better content in the future.

GOOD
bantirajak-1312723 September 2022
Selling scripts like these as top-notch thrillers starring superstars is the biggest dhokha with the audience! If suspense thrillers are your thing, you can skip watching it. This is the best movie i ever see. I love the story of this movie. So i love this movie. So i hope you guys also love this movie. I see the Frist show of this movie because Yami Gautam is my favourite actress. Aparshakti Khurana trying to save a lost battle and the runtime that saves the audience a bit. The lack of responsible people on board to greenlit good scripts. There is an abundance of ignorance and whole lot of money wasted in telling a bad story.

Searching for the sense in this movie
sonyamin-8881823 September 2022
In a nutshell, everyone in this movie are deceiving each other leaving the audience cheated in the end.

Story: R Madhavan (Yatharth Sinha) and Khushaali Kumar (Sanchi Sinha) are a couple whose marriage starts off great in the first few mins of the movie and then we get to know that there are some cracks in their so-called happy married life. The dialogue opens with Sanchi asking Yatharth for divorce as she wants to go to UK. Yatharth seems shocked and he leaves for office. The day goes on as usual until he gets to know that a terrorist was hiding in his flat holding his wife hostage. Several news channels broadcast this news and here we see how the media tries to incorporate fake narratives to gain TRPs. The movie has left no stone unturned in making fun of Arnab Goswami. Back in the flat, a kind of sexual tension develops between Sanchi and the terrorist Gul Haq (Aparshakti). She tries to lure him and takes him in her confidence. Outside the building Yatharth teams up with Mumbai police and he confides that his wife has a delusional personality disorder. Please note, the mental conditions are tossed around the characters like its a ball or something. Up there, Sanchi confides in Gul that Yatharth is having an affair with his psychiatrist Vidya and he wants to prove that she is mad. The rest of the story is based how the events unfold and who is really the culprit.

I watched this movie only coz of Madhavan and Darshan Kumaar whose acting was not really commendable. Despite being great actors, their role and the way it is executed makes them look like clowns. Aparshakti was way better than everyone.

I think actors should really read the script before making such movies. This movie is worse than Brahmastra. In this movie, a plot is twisted so much that it loses meaning in the end. I couldnt connect with any of the characters. The background or the past was not explained correctly or shown well. T series must just stick to making below standard music videos.

Dialogues were also pathetic in some places. The scene where a police helps a terrorist escape just shows how cheap this moviemaker thinks the police force are.

Huge disappointment!
