Yeah I get that it is supposed to be a zombie movie with a heart. And I'm not dissing Canadian productions, I actually do enjoy the niceness in a lot of Canadian shows and movies but in this film it just didn't seem to work and proved to keep this a bit dull, slow, and weird. When seeing what it was I did have high hopes, but a better Canadian zombie love story would be The Returned with Emily Hampshire.

Not Your Average Zombie Flick
Kthrynfotzz2 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
An interesting take on a Zombie/ Apocalyptic flick with flawed characters. I'd never seen the twist of the zombies only being active/dangerous at night. It was a unique choice. The relationship between the main characters had real world issues. Seems like it'd be pretty close to what would actually to happen if there ever were a zombie apocalypse. Not your average Zombie flick.
Zombies. Yawn!

I would have given this movie 0 stars if i could have. Finished the whole thing and it bums me out that i will never get that 85 mins of my life back. I would sooner slam my balls in a car door repeatedly then have to rewatch this movie. People rating this 9 and 10 must have watched a different movie.
Laughable apocolytic

This is, by far, the worst movie I have ever seen in my life! Being listed as an apocalyptic zombie movie is most laughable. The "zombies" are never shown to have aggression until closer to the end and even in that moment it is terribly done. The script itself is awful. It is meant to be some sort of a love story, however, there is no portrayal of real love whatsoever. The actors are terrible, the writing is terrible...the movie is terrible. I whole heartedly believe the only people rating this movie with high stars are those who are involved in the making of this film. Do not even waste your time watching this movie, as you will bitterly regret it as I did!
No Redeeming Qualities At All

-1 Star for the horrible acting in the opening sequence
-2 Stars for the stupid stupid forest scene with the 'We're gonna take your bag' guys. Lets see how many irrational moments we can put into a scene shall we?
And in the end there were not any real positives I could see at all in this 'Love Story' I was surprised I made it through the whole thing without shutting it off.

Overrated

I watch all kinds of horror movies and I don't have the highest standards. I do not find unlikable and selfish protagonists with zero personal growth to be watchable. Our protagonist seemingly makes the worst choices and gets himself in trouble time and time again. The love story also seems forced and one way. These other reviews must be fake reviews.
Single worst "zombie" movie ever
jeffdrosenberg23 April 2020
The "zombies" are not really zombies nor do they seem overly dangerous- the hero walks among them with no problems or even getting attacked. The dialogue is painful, although the actors are not terrible. There doesn't seem to be a point to this movie. It's too awful to be enjoyably bad.
I want my 88 min back

This movies was a garbage. 84 min runtime but I finshed it within 25min, guess what I was unable to connect myself with the screen. I felt sleepy many time. 84 min film felt like 84 hours. Don't believe in the other users high rating. I warn you Don't watch it if you do you will regret.
Perfect for a Pandemic
MRP-Ent8 April 2020
This movie really hits home, given the state of the world right now as we face off against a pandemic. Right off the bat, you see some characters wearing face masks, which helps in setting it apart from many zombie films.
It's well shot and the love story is interesting. Some really nice thriller moments as well. It breezes by and there is never a dull moment.

This was unfathomably slow paced with a whole lot of nothing happening...

Well, I sat down to watch the 2019 movie "Into the Void" from writer and director Jordan Cantello with the notion that it was a zombie movie. Little did I know that this was a 'zombie movie with a heart'. Well, watch the movie, and you'll get what I mean.
I didn't enjoy this movie. It was purely too mundane and unfathomably slow paced. So slow, in fact, that I gave up 45 minutes into the ordeal. Why? Well, absolutely nothing of any interest had happened in those prolonged 45 minutes and I didn't care one ounce about the characters in the movie. So continuing to watch it would just be considered self-torture.
Well, I will say that the movie was nicely filmed and had some good enough production value to it. However, I didn't enjoy the storyline, nor the fact that this wasn't really a zombie movie in the traditional sense. So I was rather disappointed with this pseudo-dramatic dribble that was "Into the Void".
Actually, the title of the movie, "Into the Void", is a clear indicator of what you will be in for when you sit down to watch this 2019 movie; a whole lot of nothing.
I am rating "Into the Void" a generous two out of ten stars, solely for its production value. There was absolutely nothing enjoyable or entertaining in this movie for my liking, and I have zero interest in returning to watch the rest of the movie, as I simply couldn't care less about the storyline of the characters in the movie.

Thoughtful Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Film
gregwolk2 April 2020
This very watchable film does not depict the kind of post-apocalyptic world of The Walking Dead or Mad Max -- of which I'm glad. Yes, there is some zombie rampaging going on, but it's also the internal struggle of the characters. I love zombie films that aren't cliched, and this is one of them. The performances are solid; the cast is hot; the scenery is eerie, and the zombie kills are convincing. Very good indie film.
Zombie drama/romance
txnicole33325 April 2020
A unique take on the post-apocalyptic genre. Definitely more drama and love story, so not for those looking for zombie gore. Is more about the psychological struggles of the survivors and messy relationship of the main characters.

Not a Zombie film

Warning: Spoilers
Take a step back from scary, horror films "into the void"...
Literally into the void, as nothing happens during the film. It takes the audience into the void and leaves them there.
First of all, "Into the void" is advertised as a post-apocalyptic zombie flick, but it's far from being one... No genuine zombies, no gore, no action... no point.
The zombies are just non-aggressive, peaceful chaps who were affected by some kind of disease and they are never dangerous except at night when they try to shove people into the bushes. During the day time, they just wander in the forest with no memory. That sums up the good moments and the action highlights of the film. Imagine the rest!
The script promises a love story at the beginning, but soon after it actually delivers a story of regret judging by the flashbacks of a man, trying to save (cure) his infected girlfriend.
So, why the 2nd star?
Because I read somewhere here that the forgetful zombies were intended to portray people suffering from the Alzheimer's disease and the film was actually about the difficulty of taking care of them... Despite being executed poorly, I consider that a noble cause and award the film a second star.

Abusive Man Stalks His Zombie Ex... AWFUL.
Vanindel-197612 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
From the beginning, Josh is gaslighting Maria, and telling her she can't leave. The acting is very dull and stiff throughout. During the movie, Josh has flashbacks about their relationships that are mostly of him emotionally, mentally, verbally and even physically abusing a once pregnant Maria. In the end, instead of allowing Maria to die at her mother's home, he kidnaps her and her suffering will continue. I don't understand everyone gushing over this as a "love story". It is a very dysfunctional, abusive, narcissistic take on love if it is. The zombies are unrealistic, and there is no context. If you have ever been in an abusive relationship, please avoid or you might have your own flashbacks.
Bad Bad Bad
slawrence-0644211 July 2020
The script writer should be held just as accountable as the actors for how awful this movie is.
The acting is awful, the dialogue is clunky. You can't emote with any of the characters or their situations because the story is shoved down your throat rather than having the cast and crew use any talent or skill to let the story unwind.
If you value your own brain cells and don't want them dribbling out of your ears, give this movie a miss. You have been warned.

I Was Worried That it Would be Horrid -- and it Was...

Producer should be sued for even alluding to apocalyptic or zombie-like content. This would have been an excellent 10-th grade movie project. Unfortunately, it was presented as an actual movie. AI "actors" will have a field day replacing fourth-rate performers such as those found in this non-movie. Can't wait.
Not even worth renting. Not worth watching even if someone is paying you in beer, chips, etc.

What an interesting take on a genre I love (zombies, post-apocalyptic society, etc) - and so relevant to everything we're going through right now.

A Different Kind of Zombie Movie
GilbertS-857 April 2020
In the middle of a supposed breakup, Josh witnesses Maria's mental breakdown that signals the beginning of a kind of apocalypse.
I tire of zombie movies as they tend to be unoriginal. Luckily, Into the Void, at least for me, takes an original twist on this tired genre. Thank God the characters are imperfect from the beginning and we get to imagine another world at the end of days.

Timely Zombie Film
bohemianpirate-871-3834873 April 2020
Who knew that a post apocalyptic movie would be so timely right now? Well Into the Void touches right on the nerves of all of us right now, and then some. While I thoroughly enjoyed this well made indie, I couldn't help but feel their pain. Of course its' fictional and slightly more dangerous-in its Zombie world theme-it still strikes a chord as it is grounded in a psychological tale that's relatable. Excellent performances by the two leads, Ioan Sebastian Tirlui and Molly Dyson and smart directing by Jordan Cantello make Into the Void a perfect diversion for these scary times!
Awards well-deserved!

I'm not a fan of relentless gore, just one of the reasons I liked this dystopian take on the end of the world. Great to see a director take a more intimate, humane approach and succeed with well cast newcomers holding their own amidst impressive cinematography. No surprise at the number of awards for this movie, all well-deserved!
A love story in a pandemic world. Not your average zombie movie.
williamgway4 April 2020
This is a great love story between the main characters as they try to figure out the new normal after a pandemic. Sound current? All to real. It was good. We enjoyed it and found ourselves talking about it even after it was finished. The filming was top rate and helped keep the plot going. Solid acting from the leads. If you want a love story in the pandemic world of the future (or present!) you will enjoy this.
Weirdly effective during our pandemic
