Lots of fun!

Warning: Spoilers
The year is 1994. This is when a demonic cult who has planned the end of the world will bring their ritual to a music festival in a small Colorado town. Soon, demons will rule the land and three very human people will have to try and stop it.

Sure, you've seen this type of movie before. But have you seen it as a cut paper animation?

Attack of the Demons would be an interesting experiment if its story didn't work, but it actually becomes truly engaging and succeed because of it.

Director Eric Power also made another animated film called Path of Blood. Here he's working with writer Andreas Petersen, who also provides the voice of Jeff, to make a movie that would completely fit into the 1980's direct to VHS era - if it were a live-action movie. Being animated allows it to go wild with its visuals and create a world beyond an everyday budget.

I wanted to like it.

Warning: Spoilers
The story is simple, but it takes about 25 minutes to actually go anywhere. And the movie isn't even 80 minutes long. That said, there's some genuinely neat ideas for body horror going on here.

There's some decent use of music, and usually just when I thought "hey, this scene is quiet" some music or sounds or something would kick in. Nothing memorable, but adequate.

The animation is reminescent of South Park, but very much its own thing. Kudos to the creator! (although Nat looks like a hunchback, and once I saw it I couldn't unsee it)

The dialogue was okay. Not great, but not horrid. But when read by the voice actors it became... it became so bad that it made me realize that voice acting really takes talent. And that this movie doesn't have any of that talent. Seriously, it's like the cast isn't even trying, and hurts the movie for it.

Tone is scattered. There's some mildly amusing comedy with one crazy character, and goofy bits with monster parts, and then also lots of dreadful horror elements. It's like if Sam Raimi (manic campy energy) and George Romero (slow sad dread) had a child, and that child couldn't decide which parent it wanted to follow so tried to bounce between the extremes.

It may be worth a watch just for folks who want to say "I watched it", but I can't say it's good. I'll give it 5 stars solely for being a horror movie in a style nobody else is really doing, but without that I'd give it a 4 or even a 3. A tighter tonal focus, less early padding (or maybe more horror mixed in during the padding?), and some voice actors who can act and a script worth their acting, and this would be higher.

This is a unique addition to the horror genre that I would recommend seeing once

Attack of the Demons (2019) is an animated gem that I recently watched on Prime. The storyline follows a group of friends in the mid 90s that live in a small Colorado town. When a local cult unleashes a demon apocalypse the group of friends will try to save the world.

This movie is directed by Eric Power (Path of Blood) and contains the voices of Thomas Petersen, Katie Maguire, Andreas Petersen and August Sargenti.

The animation for this picture is very basic but worked. The depiction of the 90s was a lot of fun and spot on. The storyline was fairly straightforward but worth following and the kills and background music were awesome. There's a fox demon and numerous spitting ooze sequences that are really good. The final battle is entertaining and wraps the movie up well.

Overall, this is a unique addition to the horror genre that I would recommend seeing once. I would score this a 7/10.

Had low expectations and yet it still failed to live up to those

I LOVE comedy/horror films. So, seeing this in that genre, I figured it would at least be worth a watch.

Great effort was put into the South Park style animation, and I applaud the makers for that. However, to put in less effort for the acting and script would impossibly require effort. Every one of the actors sound like they were forced by their parents to finally leave the basement and do something productive no matter how much it pained them. There were attempts at humor, but I get the impression this was the writer's first attempt at humor, and having never experienced humor wasn't sure how it works.

In summary, great example that anyone can make a movie.

Dead pan

I was intrigued by the films art style which vaguely reminds me of early South Park, something I can see some people being fairly split on whether they liked it or not. Going beyond that, the monsters were all fairly unique and it was glad ot see them go beyond usually zombie fair.

Unfortunately, the voice acting comes off very flat which really comes out when characters should be scared or worried about things. Additionally, many characters lines come off as stilted and strange. There are plenty to reference but I will go with one The character Nat calls out "Are you guys okay? I can't see anything" Kevin responds in a dead pan tone "We are both stuck in the mouth" and the character Jeff follows up equally deadpan "I think I am going to fall"

Loved it.

This movie was fun from start to finish, and was obviously a labor of love. It pays wonderful tribute to Italian horror films of the 70s and 80s. Although the method of animation is "low tech", there are some wonderfully composed shots. Fairly consistently too. I'd love to see what director Eric Power could do with a much larger budget.
