Why the hate for the ending?

I enjoyed the series. It didn't try for long to be a whodunnit, given that it seemed pretty obvious once needle marks were found on all the victims. Dad's a doctor is he, hmmm...

There's quite a few reviews on here that scored low due to the ending but I can't see any reason given. What's the issue with the end? I thought it wrapped up nicely.

Good to see a drama that didn't feel the need for lots of silly twists. We know he did it, they know he did it, that just need to get enough on him to prove it. I think the purpose of the show wasn't about that, but to show we dont know what goes on behind closed doors, relationship dynamics, and how psychopaths seem so normal until you get to know them very well.

Didn't set the world alight but I enjoyed it so it's a solid 7 from me.

Episode 4

Not a bad finale, but no suspense and not twist. Showing us exactly how it played out was a mistake too. Why not leave a little doubt or just have David Tennant's character admit it?

Showing the scene was a terrible mistake.

So I was wrong. There was no twist just a twisted control freak! How a person can harm their on children is beyond me. You have to be one sadistic animal to do that!

I enjoyed the whole series. Watching the crime play out was really heartbreaking! So it was a murder suicide. I bet Steve regrets saving that coward. His poor mother probably cant understand why he turned out the way he did. Especially if he was never abused.

Poor wife and daughters never stood a chance with this man! Seems like nothing would make him happy. He would always find something to whine and complain about. Poor lady couldn't even have good friends without him trying to mess that up.

Nothing worse than insecure, controlling men.

All in all a decent story.

Brilliant ending.

Tom is out of prison, and not afraid to make his presence felt, he's intimidating his mother, who has a look of fear on her face.

I'm not sure what others watched, but the concluding part of Deadwater Fell had me totally captivated. Story pretty much went the way I was expecting it to, but it was delivered in style, and the acting was outstanding. I'm so used to David Tennant playing a nice guy that it can be sometimes hard to see him playing a load some part, but such as the talent of the man that he carries it out with some style, he is wonderful in this. Cush Jumbo was equally as good, I thought the scene where she confronted Tom was awesome.

Nothing came as a great surprise, if this was a fantastic end to what has been a very high quality series.

Terrific, 9/10.

Episode 4

I do not know why Channel 4 promoted this as a thriller. I reviewed each episode after it had aired and my approach was that of a mystery thriller. In that context it was found wanting. No one but Tom Kendrick could had done it.

Deadwater Fell was more of a character study. The final episode shows how the Kendricks died and why.

It really was an insight of Dr Tom Kendrick. A sly manipulative individual. A plausible liar. Deluded, a fantasist. You see that even his own mother is frightened of him.

In some ways I thought this was a companion piece to White House Farm over on ITV. Jeremy Bamber could easily be a real life version of Tom Kendrick.

Falls flat

Builds up and up and up....falls flat on its face. What the hell was that ending?! So many unanswered questions and it's just left?! Did they run out of run time or just couldn't think of an ending?! Good series but kinda feels like a waste of time too!

Incredibly disappointed
ginastanford2 February 2020
Cush Jumbo, David Tennant and Matthew McNulty were just so stiff and really blahs. The story line way too predictable. Just was meh. I always have a high expectation for David and Matthew, they just missed on this one. Almost not worth watching for me.

Disappointed
nfire-2974118 July 2022
This series had potential. Started out interesting, and then flat.

Characters were ok for the most part. Acting was mediocre to good.

Writing was horrible. Directing was horrible.

Some scenes were useless - did not add anything to character development of plot.

Overall...Meh!
