A harmless but predictable romp
coombsstephen19 August 2022
I think this film knows it's audience and caters to them well. It is almost like comfort food in a movie.

It's just a bit of a shame the script wasn't a bit better. Everything is just so predictable throughout the film and there seem to be plenty of storylines that don't really go anywhere.

Painfully clunky & predictable
fallyhag18 March 2023
A vessel for promoting some lovely Cornish scenery. That's all it is. If you want an intelligent story with unique twists and suspense then it's a good job you will be stuck on the A303 getting to see it. This is a painfully predictable film with a story so lazy it is a little insulting.

There are some likeable characters and some credible acting talent. But this project was created for the sake of it. There was never an intention to create a real film here. Just another transactional activity aimed at earning a few pounds £.

Every scene, whilst pretty, just collided into the next. The story develops at a rapid pace, ignoring the need for logic or feeling. It just wants to go from A to B and doesn't care how little sense it makes or what well trodden cliches it spews out.

This is a Sunday TV movie at best. With the rain pouring down outside and the family isolating from the next plague.

I hope that it helps to promote Cornwall because it really is a lovely place to visit. Even without the massive CGI sunsets.

Heartwarming and light
mosquitocyn16 September 2022
This is a good movie - suitable for watching as a family or even when dating. It has light romance, light comedy, feel good results. Of course, the singing is really good. A bit clinche at times but overall pretty entertaining. The acting is good, scenery nice and humor entertainingly. I like the fact that they did not use super model figures as their male and female leads. The cast reflects regular folks and that contributed to the film being believable. Some parts are predictable but overall it's good entertainment and you feel happy having watched the movie. It is well paced too - not a dull moment.

Solid but unnecessary sequel
masonsaul19 August 2022
As far as unnecessary sequels go, Fisherman's Friends: One and All offers another extremely solid dose of heartwarming comedy drama even if it could've leant into the more dramatic moments and ditched the out of place rescue set piece.

James Purefoy is great as the emotional core of the film, exploring his character's highs and lows with an always watchable presence. The rest of the cast are all fine with Dave Johns being the strongest, his increased screen time this time around is much appreciated.

Meg Leonard and Nick Moorcroft's direction is good, the film is competently shot overall and has a warmth to it but there is definitely an over reliance on ugly looking archive footage. The selection of shantys is really good, always welcome and well implemented.

Uplifting and Better than the first
dannibairstow3 September 2022
I wasn't the biggest fan of the first movie, watchable but boring... Maybe a 4 or 5 out of 10; but my partner liked it and there wasn't much to choose from at the cinema this weekend so I reluctantly agreed to go with him. I entered the theatre with low expectations...

Boy was I pleasantly surprised! Yes, it's not blockbuster movie, nor worthy of an Oscar (most Oscar winners are overrated guff anyway) and a couple of the supporting cast members are very poor in regards to their acting talent.

BUUUTTTT overall it's enjoyable, heart warming and you leave with a smile on your face.

Worth a watch for sure, and believable or not, it is actually a true story.

No way as good as the first ( not much singing)
chloegalley26 April 2023
Fisherman's friends One and all is a second film which was aired in 2022. After the highs of performing at Glasgow, the group struggles. The storyline was fairly good not as strong as the original film it had comedy and emotion. The movie didn't have much music/ singing in it to the first film which was disappointing as was looking forward more to that. All the cast of fisherman's friends played each character extremely well. A good light hearted movie to watch and I did enjoy it just no way as good as the first one. Fisherman's friends one and all is a up lifting true story. To anyone who wants to watch, this watch the first one first as it's excellent. Was not a bad watch. Currently streaming on Prime Now.

Disapointing
cliveyahoo20054 May 2023
Must admit I never see bloopers in films, but I saw two terrible continuation errors in this film. First one a character is carrying a laptop in one hand and then it is in his other hand. The other I shall leave to you to see but it is very obvious and distracts you. Bit sloppy and lazy.

The script is weak and seems the story is made up as they go along.

James Purefoy is an excellent actor.and deserves better than this.

But if you can switch off and go with the flow the film is worth watching for the scenery.

Hard to see a third film being made as this is very similar to the first film.

Maybe I am too harsh as there is not much you can do with a group of singers.

Sticking together
kosmasp27 February 2024
No pun intended - I watched the trailer for the first movie so many times I reckon that I actually thought I had seen the movie ... turns out I had not. But I think the movie/sequel works even without much of a knowledge when it comes to the first movie. And same is true I think when it comes to the true story this is based on. Nothing much I know about that too.

So no idea how that fares against that (or the first movie). I do wonder though if the sequel right here even still has anything from the true story this was inspired by at the start. Good actors, good singing ... but also quite the drama ... sometimes a bit too much (you may wonder if the term first world problems didn't exist, if it would have been invented for this ... the "issues" the characters have at times).

Nice drama, nice comedy ... but I am quite certain that it is not living up to the first movie ... will get back (to you) on that ... no pun intended.

Mediocre, it lost its heart
chris_rowe-881-16882030 August 2022
I loved the first one, I'm 35 and it's not my genre of music or movie but I loved it, was one of the last I watched with my uncle before he passed.

I think either people are desperate to point score or it was written in to every contract for British film and tv that they have to acknowledge all this PC rubbish of this generation who want change without any work or changing themselves to be better people. It was so unnecessary in so many ways, I heard audible groans in the audience, people are so sick of it. It's creating a theme of good people hating on something that should be good, anyway it added to nothing and took some of the magic away.

The storyline was pointless really, they've aged a bit and now the guy thinks they're past it so won't give them a new deal, there's acknowledgment of a death In the group and a forced love angle where the couple had no chemistry. Plus an angle where a fisherman hates a farmer because I guess that's a thing. There was no magic, no natural innocence or excitement , it felt unnecessary, uninteresting and uninspired.

The thing is now there's so many remakes, sequels or spin offs I'm not sure the film industry can actually make as many top tier films.

The acting was alright, pretty bland, bar 2 or 3 the names you won't remember, some don't even speak! The Glastonbury stuff was awfully filmed and executed. Then there's the last song, dear god I just felt ashamed thinking of some group of imbeciles sitting patting themselves on the back for calling the final song "union of different colours" even though they sing the lyric as "kinds"

I don't understand why they think forcing it into everything will fix the ignorant, they're a bad kinda people who won't be taught easily.

The film lacked what made the first a solid 8.5/9. Music was good, that's the only thing stopping it from going to a 2.

Pure uplifting, feel-good entertainment
Girlystyle20 August 2022
Really liked the first film but this is even better. Funnier and more dramatic. Just the kind of feel-good movie we need in these dark times. Loved Imelda May and James Purefoy delivers a powerful and moving performance as Jim who is struggling with grief. Supporting cast are very funny and visually it looks amazing, definitely booking a holiday in Cornwall. Came out of the cinema with a big smile on my face feeling happier about the world.

A watchable but unremarkable sequel.
sbweightman20 August 2022
A watchable but unremarkable sequel which covers a lot of the same ground as the first film and in a similar fashion. The story focuses more on the issues of the "lead" singer than the band and with weaker characters, some poor acting and nowhere near as much charm overall. There's enough humour, sea shanties and idyllic Cornish scenery to enjoy, but it wasn't particularly good or memorable.

"Buoy" this is a great film
timlanedj4 September 2022
Ignore the naysayers, this is a wonderful, warm, tender, moving, funny film. James Purefoy is perfect in the lead role & Imelda May is a revelation in her first acting role.

Based on the ongoing true story of the Cornish group of singing fishermen, this sequel is even better than the first.

It explores some really important themes and handles them in a really important way.

It is NOT too long. In a packed house it held the audience right through to the end of the credits, people really seemed reluctant to leave. Laughter, tears, great music and beautiful Cornwall, pure escapism. What more can you want?

Contrived
gordonkegg7 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I would suggest that this sequel is a tad cynical in its intentions, well certainly more cynical than the audience who would pay to watch it. Throughout its runtime it would seem that there is a checklist of episodic and very rushed storylines that have absolutely no emotional resonance due to their obvious insincerity. For example, the central character won't sing with the newly appointed tenor due to the fact he is a farmer, Wow! Hardly the Sex Pistols is it? Because he expresses this live it makes all the following day's newspapers. Yes OK! Then there is a shoed in romance, then his mother falls into a shaft, will she be ok? Yes everything's fine! The record company are not sure about the vocals so they gatecrash a restaurant and provide an impromptu performance, yep everyone loves them! Then.

An Unneeded Sequel
vengeance2026 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Saw the 2019 film 3 Years Ago & thought it was a pretty good film. Then, out of nowhere, this film comes along. Having heard zilch about this film, & only discovering it a few days ago via the Odeon Website, I thought to book a ticket as I liked the first & was curious as to how this one would fare. To say it fared not so good, would be an understatement...

The film sees aftermath of the Fisherman's Friends Band after they preformed on the pyramid stage at Glastonbury. Unfortunately though, the group struggle with their second Album. With a tour in South Australia on the go, the group will trace their ancestors and embrace a new community, and discover their musical DNA.

I found the film to be pretty mundane in comparison to it's 2019 predecessor. I mean, the music & the scenery were great, bu the film just felt totally unneeded. What I think ruined the film was the modern snipes aimed against men, sorry not sorry, but it has to be mentioned & for me, was an annoying let down. We can't have a film nowadays that leaves that drivel out can we? The part with the rehab session with something regarding "MaLe OpPrEsSiOn" really got on my nerves. But hey, it's 2022, we live in that day & age where Hollywood has that obsession to add that drivel in for good measure I suppose... *Rolls Eyes*

Aside from that, the film had a plot that seemed out there. I mean, it wasn't bad, but, seriously, it could've used some work. The film itself was long & drawn out at 1 hour & 44 minutes, The drama scenes were nice, but, honestly, I would've preferred more band playing than that personally.

Overall, it's an unneeded sequel with modern day snipes added to ruin it further as if the film itself didn't have more of a reason to feel unneeded already. While the music & the bands performance is good, the plot is too thin with the pacing & runtime being poor, long, sluggish, to justify the films existence.

3/10.

Union Of Different Kinds
dk7778 December 2022
Continuation of an excellent film in which we once again follow the life of interesting and entertaining characters.

James Purefoy is absolutely brilliant in the role of Jim, easily transforming into the role of a bitter, but actually good-natured character who has a hard time coming to terms with his loss and turns to alcohol.

We follow his progression towards the realization that life simply goes on and that he has to come to terms with some things.

Some new characters appear and they are an excellent addition to the already well-known actors of this story. The film is different from most of today's films because it does not bore us with the usual lessons, but wants to entertain us and show us people with their flaws and virtues.

This is, after all, a movie that actually deals with normal people and their lives, who sometimes find themselves in unusual situations.

An interesting and entertaining continuation of the story about friends who found themselves in a position to become famous, but did not lose the most valuable thing, which is humanity and dignity.

Definitely a movie worth watching.

Sometimes sequels should never be made!
qui_j7 June 2023
The first movie captured hearts and minds as it was all about underdogs being discovered because they have talent. Their journey was an amazing one, and the film was from the heart. The songs were great, and the story one that was worthwhile telling. The sequel however is a different matter. It need not have been made at all. The story was told, the journey ended, so there was absolutely no need to tell some contrived tale to try and make a pound or two! The characters are weak, the story barely held together with scotch tape and glue, and the acting very variable in this one. The only similarity between the two films is the rugged Cornish scenery, and stunning seascapes!

Brought joy and laughter
adamfranklin-7379225 August 2022
This film brought a lot of joy to the audience. It's less of a comedy than the first but doesn't overdo it on the drama side of things. Purefoy delivers a strong performance.

This is a truly terrible film
zzapper-212 September 2022
I didn't see the first movie so am at somewhat of a disadvantage but heard it was a decent enjoyable movie. The plot of the sequel is paper thin and frankly uninteresting but what makes things even worse is knowing that everyone in the cast is desperately trying to make it work... but do I care if they get a new contract or about their hokey love affairs?.. nope?

Curiously I was with 3 friends who enjoyed it well enough but I never felt so much a prisoner in a cinema.

What was excellent was the beautiful views of Cornwall and the actual singing ... BUT THERE WASN'T MUCH SINGING!!.

So why didn't they just create a lovely Cornwall travelogue with a ton of old Fisher Man's Shanties ???

There's No Way Island Records Would Sign Leadville Trubblecock and The Rest Of These Bloody Old Fools. 🤦
I Actually Enjoyed Certain Parts and Just How Ridiculous The Premise Really Was.

Things I Liked -

1. That 1 Scene With Leadville Trubblecock Peeing Whilst On the Phone in the Conference, and Then Him Hanging Up and it Saying "Leadville Trubblecock Has Left The Conference" Was Absolutely HILARIOUS. 😆 😂 🤣😂

2. The Scenery and Some of the Shots Of Cornwall Were Beautiful.

3. Leadville Trubblecock

Things I didn't Like -

1. Some of the Acting Was Awful.

2. The Overall Tone of it Is Boring As Hell.

3. It's Premise is Ridiculous.

Overall, It's Baseline is Already Dull to Begin With. This is Not Even Mediocre. This is Low Level Cinema.

Dull sequel that replaces the original's moderate charm with dank, arrogant, miserable, smugness
danieljfarthing13 January 2023
"Fisherman's Friends: One And All" is sequel to 2019 true-tale Brit dramedy "Fisherman's Friends" about the titular Cornish folk singer troupe inc James Purefoy, Dave Johns, David Hayman (posthumously) & new addition Richard Harrington. Despite Chris Foggin directing some beautiful scenery shots, and nice supports from Joshua McGuire & Maggie Steed, this melodrama replaces the original's moderate charm with a dank smugness, thanks mainly to Purefoy's dour misery & arrogance dominating it (Purefoy & returning writers (Piers Ashworth, Meg Leonard & Nick Moorcroft) screwed that aspect badly (and others)). Dull fare - for ardent sea shanty fans only. Flush.

Possibly the most boring film ever made?
NinaCarla23 August 2022
The only thing I was grateful for were the naps I got whilst watching this gratuitous waste of everything. I love films but this might be one the laziest ones I've ever seen. It's almost offensive that it was made, never mind released at cinemas. What happened??

Death by stereotype!
mariocox23 March 2023
As with most new to the shelf productions this one is no different and has to contain whatever the current social engineering is.

The funny thing is that they were banging on about all the old band mates not being politically correct enough, and breaching women's rights by stereotyping them, when all along this movie is stereotyping Cornish people so it's a bit rich!

Apart from that it was barely watchable, with a cameo by Chris Evans and cringe-worthy scenes from the Island Records bash and main stage at Glasto.. I wouldn't recommend this film to anybody who cares anything about Cornwall or sea shanties!
