Good camerawork but bad story
pal0505200328 July 2019
The plot is simple, a group of students conduct an experiment in a haunted house but things go awry and people start dying. In fact, I was ready to give the benefit of the doubt to this movie knowing the premise would not be original, however this movie lacks any real scare. The camera shots and camera angles were the best thing in the movie because it makes you want to strain your neck to see if there is anything hidden in the corner. Apart from that, there is nothing good that should be expected from a Korean horror. No emotional investment in the characters, no shock or scares. The acting was just decent enough but the main problem with this movie is that it does not really know what kind of movie it wants to make: an exorcism gone wrong? mystery thriller? or drama? This really ruins the movie and leaves you feeling cheated after leaving the theater.

Not exactly the best of horror that South Korea has to offer...
paul_haakonsen1 January 2020
I didn't know that "0.0 MHz" was based on a comic book, but after having seen the movie, I can't really claim to have been enticed much into having any interest in getting acquainted with the comic.

When I sat down to watch this 2019 South Korean horror movie, it was solely because it was exactly that, a new South Korean horror movie. And it is no secret that South Korea does make some interesting horror movies for the most of the time.

"0.0 MHz", however, was a mediocre foray into the horror genre. What started out as actually being something with promise and potential, quickly turned into a stale and mundane movie, with very little of any overly interest happening.

For a seasoned horror veteran as myself "0.0 MHz" was a walk in the park. Nothing scary here, aside from the questionable CGI that they opted to use for the long-haired ghost. Wow, that was just abysmal to look at.

The movie was nicely carried mostly by Eun-ji Jung. But I will say that the acting performances were actually good for all the participants, but it was Eun-ji Jung that stood out the most with her performance.

For a South Korean horror movie, then "0.0 MHz" wasn't particularly outstanding, and it is one that will quickly fade into oblivion, most likely never to be watched a second time.

My rating for this movie from writer and director Yoo Sun-Dong is a four out of ten star rating. While it is watchable, and does have some interesting enough moments, the movie just failed to make itself outstanding amidst so many other South Korean horror movies.

What have they done?!
danthovict30 April 2023
The source material (the manhwa with the same title) is a legit scary manhwa!! But the movie adaptation is just meh! What have they done?!

They change the plot quite a lot, put a weird and bad CGI. Even they changed/removed some scary scenes from the manhwa. Even So hee's grandma ghost supposed to be scary looking. Please if you want to create a really terrifying horror movie and you already have a really good source material, stick to it! Dont change, removed or even add something unnecessary stuff. And you make people dont want to read the original story.

For other people, please read the manhwa. Its really good!

Warning: Spoilers
Since signing up to a offer of free 30 days on Shudder,I've been trying my best to stick to viewing exclusives on the site. Checking Shudder UK's Twitter page, I was happy to find a new exclusive movie about to come hot off the press.

View on the film:

Going behind the camera for the first time after writing the script for Musudan (2016), writer/director Sun-Dong Yoo & cinematographer Taek Gyun Cha take a group of teens down to a Korean Horror cabin, entirely made of J-Horror dead wood.

Bringing the ghost to life in a prologue, Sun-Dong knocks down any chance of fear or mystery building, by drenching the flick in a terrible jump-scare score, where in moments when silence and a lingering camera could have created a decent scene, Sun-Dong slaps the dull boo-jump score on, and elbows the camera in for plodding hump-scare whip-pans.

Minded from the comic by Jak Jang, the adaptation by Sun-Dong borrows from the worst aspects of the Slasher genre, by making each of the teens in the cabin who cause the ghost to be awakened, be utterly interchangeable from each other, due to Sun-Dong finding no wood to build any distinct characters or personalities.

Bringing the J-Horror styled long black haired female ghost out of the woodwork, Sun-Dong tramples on any spooky potential the ghost has, by wrapping her in terrifyingly shoddy CGI, leading to mind-numbing, dull cabin fever.

Korean horror done.... Ok
justinlozowski29 December 2020
Korean horror usually involves a ghost of some sort, in a decrepit building, and it is angry. This film is no different, but it enters with that exact idea. Yes, the premise of the film is recycled, but that shouldn't detract from a watch. The acting is pretty decent, and the cheesy CGI was passable given the budget. The camerawork was more or less on par, and the characters were fairly interesting. My only gripes are the slow pace (as is usual with about 90% of asian horror films), drawn out suspense sequences and a very dull ending. Give it watch if you have some free time. Not awesome, but not disappointing.

The ghost should have more backstory
Syakirin-Ghazali22 March 2020
In my opinion, the movie builds up to something but unfortunately it never comes to fruition. I thought the ghost had some backstory to tell but in the end there were not. In my opinion the characters really done well and the acting really portrays the characters diverse personalities and makes the dynamic of the movie interesting. I admit is is not the scariest movie you can get but I do feel scared when watching it. Especially when you are a student and don't really know what to do when dealing with supernatural things. There's one message that I got which is to let your past mistakes go and don't leave on it. If you do you are not living your life. Overall I like the movie. The cinematography was expected out of South Korea and the direction and story progression is well paced.

Essentially the same plot as flatliner with Kevin bacon but with a refreshing Korean zest to it
