Hmm....
Drank2217 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Not exactly sure on how I feel about this episode. Loved how pretty much every character was trying to kill each other at the same time. Especially the fight scenes between Emma Roberts and Billie Lourd. And pretty funny how the kids on the bus pull up just in time to see Brooke killing Montana. Also loved Montana's "Only Zuul" line. Thought that was hilarious. Yet, it felt a bit too 'silly' in parts for me. The ghosts didn't really act at all surprised that they were in fact ghosts.... But perhaps it all happened off screen? Ray I guess knew he was dead the whole time... or I'm not really sure. Would have liked to have at least one character act like how Violet Harmon acted when she found out she was actually dead/ a ghost. Speaking of Murder house, this is definitely turning into what seems to be Murder house 4.0. I was all for the ghost hiker and Satan bringing back Richard Ramirez as AHS does the super natural very good. But for whatever reason this episode made me feel tired of it all. We have had ghosts in S1, S3, S4, S5, S6, S8 and now Season 9.... S1, S5, S6 all had the ghost story as the main theme and we've already learned the tricks that ghosts are bound to the land they died on and etc etc. Having pretty much all the characters die and turn into ghosts don't get me wrong is interesting and I'm all for it, but it's just that we've seen it before so many times. Even Montana in this episode and the others in the preview for the next episode are shown indulging in killing random people just because they can... We've seen this in S1 and in S5.... This doesn't really bother me but I just can't help but wish that we were given something new........but Only half way through so I'm sure something will change. A few lines here were a bit cringey.... Margaret yelling "To Kill you" was just odd... some other ones to that I can't remember. After spending 4 1/2 episodes in the dark, the sun rose up very fast near the end of the episode. Seemed odd that the whole police force would be there collecting bodies and such yet Margret and Ray are still stumbling around and Richard and Jingles can sit and wait unseen the whole time before stealing a cops car.... It just felt like a quick transition.

This episode was definitely Billie Lourds episode and she nailed every part of it. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens next as honestly I have not a clue where this is going. Which I suppose is a good thing. Excited for episode 100, should be a wild ride.

Overall it was enjoyable, just I didn't find it as good as previous episodes.

Perfect 1984 horror
jjlike-3046220 October 2019
It's surprising that any other character built up to be purely evil will be a disaster for a crux play, but this purgatory definitely illuminate theeee horror.

Amazing episode as always!!!
loganarnold17 October 2019
I am a huge fan of slashers and even though I wanted just a normal Friday the 13th/ Sleepaway Camp type of season, this season is so great! Billie Lourd and Emma Roberts were beyond amazing tonight and I can't wait what happens next!

Good morning, Camp Redwood

Warning: Spoilers
So in this episode, the sun is finally coming up. This episode is really the best. The survivors suddenly become all Battle Royale and it's really shocking and crazy. Everything about this episode is crazy good. The actress playing Rita is also fantastic! I'm also very impressed with Billie Lourde and Emma Roberts. The ending of this episode is really the best, can't wait for the next episode.

Becoming one hell of a wild ride.

Warning: Spoilers
This has to be one of the most entertaining seasons in a while. I never appreciated the camp side of the previous seasons especially the tech geeks in apocalypse, but it fits well in this season.

The homage to so many classics 80's slasher movies is spot on even Leslie Grossman saying she should have shot jingles in the head perfect.

Hopefully it carry's on for the next 4 episodes.

The humor is the key
hnt_dnl20 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of fans seem to be disappointed with this episode, but I thought it continued the trend of Season 9 being on it's way to one of the best AHS seasons. While I might agree it's not quite the level of the first 4, it's still an excellent entry and continues moving the plot forward. The nightmarish slasher subplot comes to a head in "Red Dawn" as the focus shifts back to the 1984 protagonist Brooke Thompson. Emma Roberts as Brooke is essaying her best character of the entire series. She's doing the hardest job imaginable: making a normal, straight-laced girl into a relatable, 3-dimensional human being. In a season filled with animated scene-stealing characters, Brooke has been grounding the show with her humanity. And the writers have made the 2 extremes mesh fabulously.

The main reason that Season 9 has worked so far above everything else is the HUMOR. These characters are probably the funniest collection of characters the show has ever had. From the cheeky one-liners to the funny double entendres to the outlandish set pieces, the comedy of 1984 has been golden and will in the end be the staple that holds the season together. Some of the funniest moments of this episode ironically involved the straight-laced Brooke and her horrified reactions to all the madness around her.

In addition to Roberts, Cody Fern (Xavier), Leslie Grossman (Margaret), and Billie Lourd (Montana) have been phenomenal this season and this episode is no exception. In fact, I'd say all 3 actors had some of their best moments in this very episode. To complement the acting, the fight scenes, music, and score for this episode were spot on. The filmmakers really captured the essence of the 80s slasher with these first 5 episodes.

I must mention a few gripes I had with this episode, a couple of them attached to the season in general, thus the 1 less star. Even though he's been solid the last couple of episodes, Gus Kenworthy's bad acting re-surfaced in that boat scene with Margaret. Also, I'm just not enamored with Angelica Ross' performance as Nurse Rita. I honestly don't think that her acting has been strong enough to support her rather weighty story. I noticed it a few episodes ago with her early backstory entry, but this one just convinced me that she was kind of a miscast. Finally, there was a really lame joke at the end of the episode that just didn't work for me and undermined all the legit humor up to this point. I was surprised the writers let that one pass. I didn't have as much of a problem with these quibbles early on, but by the 5th episode, I expect improvement in the weaker areas. All this said, I'm cautiously optimistic that Season 9 will continue to be strong as long as the writers keep the focus on humor.

Jingles get along with Satan
mohamadacma29 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The episode kicks off with a a scene four years ago showing that psychologist girl knocking at the door of a room from which loud music was emanating. When she heard no answer, she broke in to find a girl strapped to the bed with blood all over her. Soon after, her father shows up and before stabbing himself in the back of his neck, he reveals his dark side to her. The scene ends and we are in the now. Lots of events erupted all at once, montana finally muster the courage and attack brooke who defends herself couple times and finally stabs montana repetitively hence ending her life. Earlier in the episode Brooke hang out with the already dead Chad, exchange flirtations, and finally made love to him, only to find his head in the refrigerator later on. Margaret, takes the injured guy with her on a boat, murder him and throw him to the river after slicing off his ear,of course. Mr jingle finds the psychologist but didn.t kill her so that she lives with the what she's done causing a bloodbath in the camp. Mr jingles attack Margaret hold her throat and lift her up in the air trying to choke her but she pulls up a knife from under her belt and stab him releasing her self in the process from the grip of his hand. The burned guy also is out to get back at mr jingle so he throw couple of arrows at him which caused him to fall down to the ground. The dead in camp redwood, it seems, are hanging out as though they're still alive. The police raid the scene after a visiting school bus is confronted with brooke finishing off Montana. The police detain brooke, montana kills a cop, and, surprisingly enough, satan and jingles escape laughingly with a police car. Watt! Very adrenaline filled episode. So many scares throughout. Nice

Red Dawn

Warning: Spoilers
The Richard character makes me laugh, but they've gone off the deep end with this show for sure. It is not even parodying horror films anymore, I am not quite sure what it is doing.

With half the season left I am curious where they go from here.

Warning: Spoilers
Third season of "if you die here you stay here". Second season in a row with satan. I've felt that the show has gotten to repetitive for a while and therefore I was excited for this season for taking a new route. But even with a fresh setting it's the same as usual. I will finish this season but this will probably be the last season I watch

Gets better - and crazier - by the minute
gridoon202420 March 2020
This season began as a homage to 1980s slasher films but has developed into something entirely different. Constantly surprising, completely twisted, and frequently hilarious (the last line is the funniest). Leslie Grossman (Margaret) is frighteningly sexy - a killer (no pun intended) performance. It still might all go south by the end, but for now I'm giving this *** out of 4.

S9.E5 - Really Good [9/10]
panagiotis199314 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
(S9. E5) My Live Reaction / Review for American Horror Story Season 9 Episode 5 ''Red Dawn''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Nurse Rita's father was a serial killer too? What a twist! Ray's ghost came back? Nice. Margaret keeps killing people. Does she want to kill everyone? Brooke had sex with Ray's ghost? I wonder how that works, lol. Mr. Jingles is dead? Xavier is now dead too? Margaret is insane. Margaret blames Brooke for all that happened? Such an evil woman. And the episode ends with both Ramirez and Mr. Jingles together and alive. Overall this episode was good and I enjoyed it. My rating is 9/10.

In my opinion the weekest episode yet
cameronjames-8695917 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
So far this season has been amazing with a lot of twist and turns in every episode that kept me wanting more. Sadly, this episode only has one of the factors I just stated which was me wanting more because I'm very interested to see what's gonna happen after this episode with Brooke going to prison for killing Montana, to the mr jingles and the night stalker team up, and the ghosts back at the camp the next couple episodes should be great. Sadly this episode pacing wise was slow and not very uneventful, which is kinda after the fantastic episode 4. There is good parts to it to Billie lourd as Montana, to the amazing scenes of horror, to the rivialry between brook and Montana this episode has some great scenes. This episode in my opinion is just a filler for what's to come in the rest of the season and I can't wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds. In the end pretty decent episode to the so far amazing season.

Much of the same until now, not really original. Just can't seem to get into it this season!
Yvie8118 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Am I the only one who's just not getting into it this season? I mean you could see the real killer being Margaret coming from miles away, and basically throughout this episode they're are all turning on each other, killing each other in some kind of massive bloodbath (as if it totally needs to be emphasized that we all have some killerinstinct in us somewhere! ..ok I get it!) and then tada! The dead ones all wake up again not able to leave the camp.. (which was no surprise either since we already knew from the 70's guy that they keep lingering around!) But hey, haven't we seen this already in several other seasons?? It's getting a little boring by now quite honestly! Even the killing itself I can't really be bothered about. I just don't feel empathy with any of the characters for some reason. The acting also feels over the top at many moments. Only one that really caught my attention is the guy that plays Ramirez. He definitely has the right looks to play him! Anyway, I know I'm not supposed to say it but I do really miss Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson.. But mostly Evan....ánd some original plotwriting...hope that will still happen in the last few episodes!

Repetitive
nicedaytoday21 October 2019
The cast are a talented bunch but their characters are just annoying me. I'm also seriously finding the whole "If you die here, you can't leave" plot very repetitive, it's been seen in what? Four different seasons now? I don't know. I was hoping this would unravel into something a little more original, especially with only four episodes left. I feel like they've officially ran out of ideas. Lets see what happens in these last four episodes, maybe it'll surprise me.. but after this, just do the final season with the witches, bring all the best possible actors back once more and call it quits.

Really?
Jac2344318 October 2019
This is just my opinion, not everyone is thinking this but I just think this show is not in its most creative mindset.

Is this a joke? This cannot seriously be how the show has made its way into the middle of the season!! The previous episode was awful, I was hoping it would get a bit better but this just did it for me. 1984 has nothing to offer, no wit, no story, no horror!!! I can see why the recurring cast members of the series called it quits. They probably read the script for this episode and went "what in the Jesus H Christ am I reading?!"

What is a show called American Horror Story for when nothing scary is happening? There are absolutely no true horror elements in this at all. There is no tension, no tastefully captured cinematography, I mean you have all that space and the entire show feels like its being shot in a tiny section of the camp, no good use of space, just shameful. The only character given amazing lines is Billy Lourde, and everyone else is just taking up her time, honestly. The kills are horrendous. Its unfortunate really, but for all its efforts to be entertaining it fails miserably to become anything worth watching. Its just too all over the place. I'm gonna pass!

This season is such a joke at this point...
Ritchie0719 October 2019
I seriously can't believe this is the season...and now there are only 4 episodes left. How are people enjoying this? At first it was a cool idea to honor 80s slashers-but now it's just ridiculous. There are basically no surprises because everything is so predictable.

I was really hoping there would be a big twist-like maybe that this was all actors filming a ridiculous 80s slasher. Now there is only 4 episodes left so if that twist happened in the coming episodes it would just annoy me, because I was forced to sit through more than half of a season of this crap.

How are you going to sit in an hour time slot but only be 39 minutes long? Unless you're greedy and want as many commercials as possible to pay for your unearned high salary? 😏

Reference was made to ghostbusters but it came out June 7th 1984 and it should be early June so they had no time to watch that.
