Great idea but...
alamarques21 May 2020
... they picked the worst hosts possible, the most cringy competitors ever and also the rules are a little weird.

"This might be the fastest tag in the history of the show!!!" (s01e01)

Not Really Feeling It
jcpatriots201021 May 2020
I mean let's be real: it's just an overhyped version of tag. The Watt brothers must have come up with this show idea, because otherwise I can't figure out why they were chosen as hosts. And the competitors take this thing to a new extreme. I guess this is a good show for hardcore sports fans and competition show fans, but otherwise I don't get the appeal.

Has potential....but comes up short...but with this pandemic? It's at least somewhat fun to watch
jbrandt34341 July 2020
The game has potential although issues of the game are pretty obvious. First, when the three player leave about the same time the tagger simply hones in on one and usually that person is out within a few seconds. They may be the best athlete, but it matters not since they are quickly out of the first game within a few seconds. That same person is usually gone from the game completely within the next few minutes.

The final part in which two players go through the maze in "x" time to see who has the fastest time? The second player has a HUGE advantage since if the first player gets tagged once or twice the second player has little incentive to work very hard since he/she knows they can just let themselves get tagged quickly and then move on towards climbing up and pushing down the lever to end the round.

The game of "reverse tag" has the same problem. There seems to be no real need to chase the Taggers after the contestant hits the button.

The game is not bad...it's not good..it's okay at best. Some rule changes are needed and different mazes each week would help the game improve.

Meh

I watched the videos of the original British version (World Chase Tag). THOSE are so much more exciting and interesting. This lost me in the first few minutes and, although I watched the whole thing ... hoping for improvement) it left be feeling like I had wasted an hour of my life.

This is stolen from world chase tag
jenasubhamkumar4 October 2020
This is fully ripped off sports from wct and convert it into dramatic show. The tagline is also stolen how fox can do it. This is really stupid multi entertainment company.

Will It Have Legs?
atlasmb21 May 2020
You have to go back to 1989 to find the progenitor of this competition show, when "American Gladiators" burst onto the scene, capturing the imaginations of millions of American viewers who harbored secret dreams of battling excellent athletes for prize money. The hulks who fought against the competitors had cartoonish names like Diesel and Blaze.

"Ultimate Tag" is the latest of these productions. It pits three men and three women against the same number of "house athletes", called pro taggers, who have names like Rocket and Banshee. The object is to avoid getting tagged while negotiating obstacles within a playing field. The male and female winners receive $10,000 each.

To keep things interesting, there are five different variations on the childhood game of tag, requiring different skills. What makes the games difficult is that the pro taggers are primarily expert parkour athletes or freerunners. The amateur competitors often have backgrounds in track, football or other competitive sports. You tag someone by removing one of the tags they wear, as in flag football.

In one game, called Dome Tag, the player tries to avoid the tagger on a half-sphere suspended thirty feet in the air. They can travel around the perimeter, over the top, through it in different levels, or by hanging underneath it in the style of monkey bars.

After the pilot, I will keep watching . The question is whether or not producers can find enough good amateur talent to keep the show interesting.

Update 7-24-2020: Thanks to the different variations on tag, the show has proved interesting. There have been some great competitions featuring talented athletes.

RIP OFF!
johnmpbyrne31 July 2020
They stole this whole idea from a few guys here in england who have been doing live streams for years! Check out 'world chase tag' on youtube, google, anywhere! Absolutely ridiculous, the guys who thought up this idea are such genuine and cool guys that they would have more than likely worked along side fox to produce something authentic and actually decent that wouldn't have flopped like this remake clearly has. It's insanely popular here in the UK and WCT doesn't deserve this. Shame on you fox!

Fun!
wscrac2 June 2020
We had a lot of fun watching this. Laughed out loud at the taggers character/costumes. Reminded me of the decades old show Gladiators. To all the negative reviewers...take a chill pill. Not everything has to be serious. This is just fun fun fun.

It's a silly, cheesy, lighthearted, easy watch. But absolutely perfect. Hope they make a season 2.

A Spectacular Failure
KingAssmar21 May 2020
I watched a whole episode, and could not stop smiling throughout. I also found myself laughing quite a bit. My amusement was not quite what the creators of the show may have wanted, as it was a classic case of laughing at them, not with them. When one of the Watt brothers (and it is very difficult to tell them apart) enthusiastically uttered the catch phrase "Let's play some tag!" in full earnestness, or when a character is introduced with full WWF wrestler montage, costume, and makeup this is where the show is truly at its worst/best. It was awful, but I couldn't look away. But I will not watch this show again, I've seen all it has to offer, which is not much, it's really quite bad.

*Edit: I think they wanted to copy Titan Games success and they came up quite short.

I Can Get Into It
dejafast10 July 2020
Honestly, it's not that bad to me. When I first heard of this show I thought it sounded stupid and would be as bad as it seemed. I was delightfully proved wrong. I'm not gonna lie, there are definitely parts you'll roll your eyes at. But, there are also many times you'll laugh and find yourself really getting into the show. Of course, you'll never admit it to anyone around you. Most of the athletes are amazing and fun to watch. Some could undoubtedly be replaced by the contestants they're trying to catch (no offense). Eh, you'll either love it or hate it. Only one way to truly find out.

Snap! That's going in my cringe compilation
dylanwearsprada26 May 2020
This show honestly might be the worst thing I've ever seen. I knew this was going to be awful in the first 30 seconds when the taggers had cringey backstories and names like the "Banshee" and "Geek?"(maybe they were trying to copy american gladiators?). But it somehow fell even below those expectations set by the intro, between the three announcers one commentated, one made fart jokes, and the other stood silently. This says nothing about the fact that it is literally a show where adults play tag on a glorified paintball course and how terrible of an idea that was. So in short if you are ever bored on a Monday night and need something to watch go boil some water or something, I promise you will get more entertainment out of that.

Ultimate Lame
benchseat5 June 2020
Watched one episode. No more. I don't think it will last a season. A very poorly done show that has very little to offer. I also believe they may have the potential for serious injury due to the nature of the game and how the course is set up. I cringed watching one competitor slip and cause a slight injury. In the final one player was taken away with a very serious acl tear. Not worth the risk.

Sorry...
gfgriffinjr29 May 2020
I don't know if I will continue to watch this. I questioned it after the 1st episode, now I really question it after the 2nd. These types of competition shows typically don't last very long on TV anyway. I see several flaws in the competition. The play is not equal to each competitor, particularly releasing all 3 at the same time with the last competitor remaining winning the round when only one tagger is chasing. That tagger has been seen focusing on one competitor when the other two competitors are closer or easier to tag. It's a setup. The competitors should only be realeased one at a time, with whomever has the best time winning the round to make it fair for each competitor. The taggers tend to hesitate a lot in grabbing a flag, favoring one competitor over another. The taggers also act like idiots during their introduction.

Does What It Says on the Tin
owen-watts3 August 2020
I eschew the majority of US "reality" shows as the strangely OTT hyper-edited version of events they portray is just too irritating to find enjoyable. This almost hilariously functional competitive tagging show is a rare exception - it took me back to the days of "Gladiators" and was quite refreshingly light on the fakeness. Over the weeks it genuinely became a bit of a serious pleasure to watch.

What you have here - is a tired and unimaginative producer going "WHAT IF WE JUST MAKE TAG A SHOW, THAT COULD WORK RIGHT?" and yeah, it basically does because beyond that core concept they don't do much else. With an in-house team of thirty-or-so "character" taggers and six competitors an episode, you have about five courses and they clearly all recorded over one or two days in a massive hanger somewhere. It's cheaply constructed and the character taggers intro videos, the costumes and the three hosts are all somewhat basic but quite endearingly so. A lot of the competitors are refreshingly "normal" and especially as a non-American it's nice to actually see some regular people. Like those just wanting to pay for surgery or, as in one episode, when asked what they'd spend the winnings on one bellowed "THEM BILLS". I know that makes it sound like the Hunger Games but frankly guys, that's what your country looks like from the outside.

The only actual real problem is that the whole format is skewed towards those who practice parkour - the majority of the in-house team are astonishingly talented at it (my personal favourites being the adorable The Flow & The Atomic Ant) and when a contestant shows up who can actually do it, they flatten the competition within seconds. Whenever a parkour person is put against a crossfit trainer or like, just a bodybuilder, you KNOW it isn't going to go well for them. So some weighting could be done there to even the odds. This points towards its barely-disguised origins as a purloined "underground parkour" format.

Whether it gets another outing is still on the cards - and whether or not I should have written such a long and detailed review about a what is only really a very bare-bones tagging-based competitive show I don't know. However it was so winningly straightforward that it is extremely hard to dislike. TAG ON SON, TAG ON.

Has it REALLY come to,... this?
recca0198222 May 2020
Good lord,... who looked at the "sport" of tag and thought,.... Let's make THIS a television show! I'm sure nothing can go wrong....

I'm going to preface this with something simple. I lasted TEN minutes into this show,... and during that ten minutes there were two complete rounds. Now,... let's look a bit deeper. The rounds were maybe one or two minutes long. The rest of that time was showcasing individuals who,.... wanted to play tag.

I swear that this was attempting to be something akin to American Gladiators, but they lost budget before they started and someone just went "Hey,.... I know we're busy, but do you guys want to play tag?".

The announcers are absolutely cringeworthy in their talks, saying things such as "This might be the fastest tag in the history of the show!!!" IN THE FIRST EPISODE. Of freaking course it might be,.... since there was MAYBE one other tag before it.

I'm not saying that any reviewer that gives over 4 stars is being paid to,.... but that's quite the score to give something so little effort was put into.

I enjoyed this show. Anyone who says it's back is probably taking this show too seriously. It's the type of show where you turn off your brain for an hour

It's just plain fun! don't believe the haters
lockplay10 August 2020
We all played tag in life as kids. This is simply plain fun to watch. I watch with my kids and we pick which contestant is going to will it all: Green, Blue, Red. The pro taggers are fun to watch. Reminds me of the days back when American Gladiators was around. Pros vs Joes, also. The Flow is just awesome! Some of the rules could be changed for next season to make things go smoother. Also, the 3 Watt brothers on the show are unnecessary. More doesn't equate = quality.

....why?
btpark-9688822 May 2020
Big fan of JJ Watt , spectacular person and football player. Wish he would have passed on this one. Premise seemed fun, then it falters from there. Unfortunately just not at all engaging and absent a few exceptions, taggers and taggees just try too hard to be tough and clever in explaining how worthy they are to be there. Full disclosure , wrote this after 5 minutes as that was all I could take.

Poor ripoff
cjt-679511 February 2021
Imagine seeing an underground sport such as world chase tag and then ripping it off and creating this instead.

You'd have more success simply promoting the original. I hope the suits responsible are fired.
