As the series was nearing a close, some wild ideas were unhatched and this was one of them. It's a pseudo fantasy episode --always the best -- which finds Dobie and Maynard on vacation? ... who take a little detour and wind up in some INSANE Latin American country called Boca Dolce? Again, shades of the BOWERY BOYS.
As Maynard's luck would have it, he's the spittin' image of a legendary general called Ramon and must impersonate him to save the country! Imaginative writing on the part of Bud Nye, who wrote 16 episodes for the series. Also super direction by David Davis, who later directed MY MOTHER THE CAR.
A legendary cast of Spanish actors decorate this offbeat story. Rodolfo Hoyos, Jr plays Zopatero, best known for the role of Pancho Villa in the classic film VILLA (1958). Alberto Morin plays president Rubero, who had a long list of tv and movie credits, including KEY LARGO. Not to miss funny man Al Checco, playing Gonzales. Among his many appearances was in THE PARTY and BULLITT, starring Steve McQueen. Lots of other familiar faces, and very good acting. The cast was obviously having a blast.
