Don't waste your time or money...

I made the huge mistake of renting this abysmal joke of a movie from Amazon. There went my money down the drain. The worst acting it's been my misfortune to view in a long, long time and an even worse story. I watched the whole thing so that I would be entitled to write a review. As for the actors, is it any wonder that they were never heard from again? Bad sound quality, no attention was paid to lighting and it often sounded like the lines were made up that morning. This is something I really hold against Amazon. They should give you a 10 minute grace period to "decline" the movie and not be charged. That, or take responsibility for what they make available and setup some standards of quality!

"Limits to Ambition", is a dynamic multi-layered story which combines a murder mystery with a drama about characters coming to terms with their sexuality.

"Limits to Ambition", is a dynamic multi-layered story which combines a murder mystery with a drama about characters coming to terms with their sexuality. The movie first describes the major characters at their formative-childhood years and then catapults us to the present where each of their lives seems to be at a point of unraveling. Misunderstandings, secrets and repression, drive the characters' interactions with one another until both the story and its characters find their resolutions. "Limits to Ambition," while having some rough spots indicative of small independents, offers a fresh perspective on sexuality and allows for the growth of an individual to a positive end...Rather than only focusing on everything that could go wrong, it suggest how things could go right.

Very disappointed

Warning: Spoilers
I was really looking forward to watching this movie because of the previous comments and reviews. After the viewing, however, I thought they were talking about another movie entirely. The one I saw was poorly acted, excessively choppy, with no consistent point of view. I didn't have any idea about where the movie was headed until the final 10 minutes, or so.

It seems as if the film makers were not sure of their point of view. Was the movie a thriller/slasher? Was it a coming out story? Was it about transsexuals? And why was the protagonist German? He spoke idiomatic English with a middle American accent, sounding as if he grew up in the USA. His "foreignness" was just not believable. It was an extra dimension which added nothing to the character.

I don't like to give negative reviews, but I felt strongly that I had to set the record straight in light of the previous reviews. Whereas the first reviewer was engrossed for two hours, I squirmed, because of the amateur acting, the too frequent snipping, and the inconsistent point of view.

Limits To AMbition

I must admit after reviewing the trailer of this film I was a little skeptical to watch the entire movie. However, after reviewing the film my perceptions were completely altered. This movie was complex at times and a little hard to understand, however, watching the lives of these two people, and seeing the obstacles they faced were very relatable to real life. Many gay people are confused and often ashamed of their feelings in today's society, as was Michael in this film. Many people feel as though they should act as if are someone else. There is lots of envy, and suspicion present in the film. Julia and Michael face many struggles throughout the film. The characters battle with not only life issues but also with the will to survive. The acting in the film was impressive. From a feminist point of view, I enjoyed the movie. I was not offended by any of the topics in the film. It is hard to realize that many women rely on their promiscuity to survive. The movie actually broadened my horizons and helped me to thing outside the box. I have also realized how hard it may be for someone to disclose who they truly are. I would recommend this film to viewers who would like to embark upon a journey, and open their eyes to different ways of life. This film will keep you on the edge of your seat and leave you yearning for just a little more.

Great adult-content romance

Warning: Spoilers
My wife and I viewed this film. It held our attention for its 2 hour length. It's a romance thriller drama that is fun to watch. Good acting and straight forward camera work. The acting, often understated, effectively conveys the story without getting in the way. We liked Reiner Prochaska as the lead and Margery Bollinger as the mother (or grandmother?). It is ambitious in its use of many location shots. Yet the editing is straight forward and easy to follow. Not your standard boy meets boy, girl takes boy, but she's really a boy, boy saves girl who's really a boy from man who's really a bad boy, boy goes back to best boy. Instead its complex - but you'll like the ride.
