A Hole in One
Prismark1019 August 2023
It begins with The Garnetts and the Reeds watching Pro Celebrity golf on television. They laugh at Ronnie Corbett having an easy miss on the green.

It inspires Alf and Bert to play golf themselves and take a swig each time they take a swing.

They are poor golfers holding up play. Two of the men held up are Roy Castle and George Best!

Later in the club bar where women are not allowed in. Alf learns that when a player has a hole in one it is champagne all round.

A short hole on the course is a blind hole because you cannot see the flag when you tee off. Alf and Bert hang around the green and pop the ball in then rush off to the bar.

It is champagne for everyone for the rest of the day.

Johnny Speight was a keen golfer and maybe here he was trying out an idea for his later ITV sitcom The Nineteenth Hole.

It is also like some earlier episodes that used to have famous cameos from the likes of Jimmy Tarbuck and Ken Lynch. At least I got to point at George Best and tell my son that this is the player Maradona admired.
