Barbarino finds religion in the first season finale
kevinolzak29 June 2016
"Father Vinnie" was the first season finale, with Barbarino's ailing grandmother making him promise to enter the priesthood before she dies. He may be a devout Catholic, but a man of the cloth he is not (Washington: "once you're dead life ain't worth living!"). Apparently it's more daunting than it first appeared, starting out by blessing Epstein's gym locker! Woodman is suspicious of Vinnie's grandmother dying: "last semester Epstein's grandmother died three times!" Only after he's forced to break a date with Bambi Forster (Susan Lanier, in her second and final appearance) does 'Father Vinnie' see the error of his ways, though he did succeed in helping his fellow Sweathogs see the light. Epstein has the perfect note for Vinnie's saintly mother: "Dear Mrs. Barbarino, they were shocked when you had a son, because that meant you could not be a nun, I hope you won't mind this in the least, but your son Vinnie will not be a priest. Signed, Epstein's Teacher!"
