Be Careful With New Friends and Opportunities
claudio_carvalho27 March 2006
While interviewing Lex Luthor in his mansion, three thieves pass through the walls, steal the safe, and Chloe Sullivan suffers a serious accident. Lex Luthor brings doctors from Metropolis to heal her. Meanwhile, the gang invites Whitney Fordman, who is frustrated after losing the scholarship in a university, to join the group without telling him what they do for living. When Whitney is tattooed with a green substance, he also achieves the power.

"Kinetic" is a reasonable, but still good episode of "Smallville". In this episode, Clark Kent has almost a secondary participation in the plot, which is centered in the character Whitney Fordman. He leans to be careful in the selection of new friends and opportunities. My vote is eight.

A Whitney-Focused Episode!
gab-1471219 December 2021
"Kinetic" is a good episode, but nothing overly great. The episode puts more focus on Whitney which is good in theory. But his teaming with kryptonite-struck villains made for a somewhat weak subplot as they were not very strong villains. The storyline with Chloe and Lex is really good. Lana also has something to do with Lex for the episode. Some viewers were turned off, but it is important down the line. The main focus is on Whitney which gave us good moments but not too many I am afraid.

In this episode, Whitney becomes depressed after losing his football scholarship. Without truly knowing what he is involved with, he joins a group of former high school jocks with tattoos created from kryptonite-laced paint which gives them the power to walk through walls...and commit robberies. Clark has his hands full trying to stop the group. They decide to rob Lex and seriously injure Chloe in the process. Lana discovers that Lex has bought her Aunt Nell's floral shop and the town's movie theater.

Overall, a decent if not a bit middling episode. Villains were weak, but there were some strong moments with Lex and Chloe. Clark had to walk a tightrope to avoid showing his friends who he actually is. You might have noticed special effects were diminished this episode. Warner TV were not especially happy with the budget. At least the tattoos looked cool.

My Grade: B-

Whitney's having a tough time
Rcwilkinson12314 September 2007
Whitney Fordman falls in a rough crowd after losing his college scholarship for football. He joins other thugs who use a powerful green substance as tattoos on their bodies to walk through walls and commit robberies.

Meanwhile, Chloe Sullivan gets seriously injured during the thieves' robbery of Lex's mansion. Clark must save the day without letting his secret be seen by Lex or Chloe.

This episode is interesting because it focuses primarily on Whitney, a character whose story in "Smallville" is essentially wrapped up one episode into Season 2.
