Heart-wrenching
news7731 August 2008
Marlee Matlin thoroughly deserved her Emmy nomination for her performance as the mother a 7-year-old girl who was raped and murdered by her soccer coach. Matlin's character, Sally Berg, is put on trial for murder after she shoots the soccer coach - an act which is caught on a live TV news broadcast.

Matlin's anguished breakdown when she takes the stand is truly painful to watch. Doubtless that scene earned her the Emmy nod.

This episode also resolves the long-running feud between Bobby and Lindsay over their wedding ... with a most unusual, but fitting, solution.

Marlee Matlin!

Warning: Spoilers
Otherwise a pretty average episode. Glad it wasn't a full-blown wedding. The elopement was cute. When the hell did Ellenor learn sign language? Why did the Jury go for murder 2? It doesn't make any sense. They basically ignore the law for first degree but decide that somehow second degree is more fitting? Huh?? I don't understand how they could have logically arrived at that verdict.

It may be the writing as well as the acting

The arguing with Bobby and Lindsey over the wedding plans is pathetic. The writing is pathetic, so there is not much the actors or director can do. The first issue about the wedding dress is beyond mundane. No woman would ever want to be married in the dress of her dead mother-in-law. A woman would scarcely be in favor of wearing the wedding dress of her living mother! Arguing over the guest list, really? Bobby hating weddings is also a lame topic. The fact that his proposal based on Lindsey nearly losing her life makes the arguing even more absurd. How long did the writers think about the dialog before coming to this for an issue? The writers are obviously coasting on past successes! It is a shame that this is interwoven with the very worthy plot concerning the rape and death of a young girl of a deaf woman! It is both interesting and worthy of the show. The arguing with Bobby and Lindsey over the wedding plans is pathetic. The writing is pathetic, so there is not much the actors or director can do. inconceivable in a world before 2016

Warning: Spoilers
No; really? a jury review that short? against marlee? that would have been a hung jury, at best. obviously just swinging the bar (sic) back to unreasonable from the previous few "feel good" arc exonerating a death row inmate. that would be the one to fail IRL, not the bereaved deaf mother of a raped and murdered preschooler.

Half and Half
Hitchcoc26 June 2022
The better half is the trial where Marlee Matlin plays a deaf woman whose 7 year old daughter is raped and murdered. He plans her actions, grabs a gun, and shoots him. Very emotional with excellent courtroom scenes. I wlll then admit to a prejudice. I hate weddings between TV characters. It ruins the flow of the main plot, plus I couldn't care less.
