You have here two plots which collide. Our lead detective has his old man who has an accident with his tractor, so he brings him to the hospital. And in the same time, a bunch of hoodlums intrude in the hospital because they also have a wounded friend of theirs who was shot by the police after an escape from the post office. You have understood that it's an indoor drama, a sort of hostage scheme, which you deal with. With Harry Guardino and Bob Hopkins as the evil guys. It could have been worst for sure, even also maybe better. Tense, sharp, solid and tough tale pulled by convincing performances.
