Beaver's Hot Rod Lincoln
misstoes19 June 2021
Ward helps Wally and Beaver build a "one lunger" go-cart, and we see the earliest example of Larry Mondello urging him to do something stupid. Also the first example of Wally acting in loco parentis, only this time in front of someone who knows legal terms dead cold.

Beaver falls for Larry Mondello dare 1
pensman30 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
June is going through the hall closet cleaning out items that aren't there's. Also, she is looking for a vacuum cleaner belt for the boys. They are taking a motor off of an old lawn mower and doing something with Beaver's old wagon. They are building a homemade race car. Ward figures he better check in to see what's going on. He offers to give the boys a hand and his old Seabee skills come to the fore; before you know it, there is a pretty decent racing car going up and down the sidewalk. June of course is opposed.

Ward tells the boys the rules: it can only be used when Ward is with them. If they disobey then Ward will take the car away from them. Wally gets its. Wally tells Beaver that he'd better not mess it up; he can't take the car out alone. Soon Larry Mondello stops by and he wants a ride. Then Larry starts: 1) Let's sit in it, 2) Just start up the motor, bet you can't, 3) Drive around the block, you aren't by yourself, I'm with you, 4) Bet you don't know how to drive, 5) Off they go and the series has a new premise. All anyone has to do is bet/dare the Beaver and he's off doing one stupid thing after another.

Beaver gets caught by a motorcycle officer. Beaver doesn't have a license to operate a vehicle and gets a ticket. Yes, Larry Mondello is the first one to say Beaver shouldn't have taken the car out of the garage. Wally wants to know what Beaver did with the car? Nothing, he just got a ticket. Beaver doesn't want to show dad, Beaver convinces Wally to be his guardian.

Beaver and Wally are in court, the spectators are amused but the judge isn't. So far, the judge has sent four people to jail. Beaver is in tears figuring he is looking a long confinement. Beaver confesses he was afraid to tell his father. Wally adds their father gave them strict rules. The judge lets the boys go, but suggests they get rid of the car. As to telling their father, the judge leaves it up to them.

Beaver confesses he was in court, he was arrested for driving without a license. Ward is upset, but most upset that the boys didn't tell him. Ward says no matter what trouble they may be in; the boys should always let him know. It would be interesting to know just how many times Ward says this throughout the series.

We are just over the half way point in series one and Beaver is fully fleshed out as the gullible schmo who falls for every dare and bet and never learns his "friends" will abandon him instantly there is trouble. Wally has much the same kind of friend in Eddie Haskell, but generally it's Eddie who ultimately pays a price.

Beaver Cleaver and the law
AlsExGal6 January 2024
Ward helps the boys build a go cart but very explicitly commands them to never use it unless he is there to supervise. Beaver invites Larry Modello over to surmise his prize possession, and Larry goads Beaver into taking it out on the street. A cop stops and tickets them and of course Larry is nowhere to be found when the consequences come due.

Beaver tells Wally about his ticket and Wally agrees to appear in traffic court as Beaver's "guardian". Beaver is almost in tears by the time his turn comes before the bench, because the judge appears to be a "hanging judge" as he has spent the afternoon sending defendant after defendant to jail.

No way would a judge today be OK with Beaver appearing with his big brother rather than a parent, but in a small town the judge could probably count on there being some kind of consequences at home plus he could believe the tears of the small fry defendent as real and not some act by a sociopath in training. How will Ward and June take the news? Watch and find out.

I watched this as a kid and I still have to applaud the realism - Waiting for whatever it is the adults are going to do is usually far worse than what they actually do as punishment.

BEAVE'S LITTLE "G T O" GETS TICKETED!
tcchelsey1 October 2023
Say it isn't so! Beaver and Wally put together a pretty cool go-cart and it's trouble from the start.

This is a very relatable episode; how many of us big kids at heart at one time or another did about the same thing back in the day. Building go carts was a lotta' fun --but there's also the rules of the road.

Beaver is --of course -- coaxed by sly Larry to just "take it around the block" for a spin and a cop just happens to be hanging around too. Beave is the unhappy recipient of a big, fat TICKET. And by the way, in a previous episode.... wasn't it Larry who got Beave into letting a strange kid ride his new bike and disappear?

An episode you won't forget, because it all rings so true. Look for Frank Wilcox as the judge. Wilcox was one of those terrific actors who was everywhere, but you always forgot his name. He usually played businessmen or doctors and was in a ton of classic movies and tv shows for decades.

Classic Beave in big trouble stuff. From SEASON 1 EPISODE 24 remastered dvd box set. Shop around as the Leave it to Beaver box sets vary in price, but they are worth every penny.

Ain't nuffin nebber his fault.
nicholsonlarry-7202522 December 2021
Just another episode of Beaver not being held responsible. Greatest movie ever made was 'Still the Beaver'. It was always obvious he'd wind up living with his mama with everything in shambles when he got too old for others to cover for him.

Even then June gives him a house and bails him out.
