Could Be My Favorite Episode
Hitchcoc19 September 2017
This episode is indelibly stored in my memory. I would guess it had been thirty years since I saw this and I remember every detail, including how cute Alice looked in her little girl costume. Ralph never has any money, so he goes to Norton to borrow ten bucks for a costume. He plans on winning the fifty dollar prize at the Lodge's costume party. But Ed is tapped out because he has already rented a costume. A foppish Frenchman who supposedly designed the Paris sewers. Ralph is forced to make his own costume, a spaceman, built from all the junk he can find in the apartment. There are a series of incredible bits as Ed prances around in his costume, showing off an affected character whom he admires. Ralph's costume is about as weird as it gets. As is often the case, there is a worthy denouement. I am so happy to be watching these episodes again. They have withstood the test of time. One great line. Ralph says to Norton: "Next time you see me walking down the street, you go walk on the other side. Norton replies: "When you're walking down the street there is no other side!" There is also a nice dancing bit with Gleason showing off some of his signature moves.

ONE OF THE ALL TIME GOOFY EPISODES!
tcchelsey12 August 2023
AJ Russell wrote this wild story, who later wrote Jackie Gleason's famous dramatic movie GIGOT, which has been turning up a lot lately on cable.

The gang goes to a costume party where originality is the theme. Leave it to Ralph to get things from around the apartment and put together an outrageous costume as a man from space??? His costume, complete with a pan on top of his head and polka dota pajama bottoms(?), is one of the funniest gags of all time. Jackie is the whole show, also given partial credit for co-writing the script.

Top prize is Fifty Dollars! Among the other entries is Norton as an 18th century French aristocrat, who at first he thought was a hero, but later turns out to be the official who condemned sewers!

Alice plays a 12 year old girl with a real short dress. Did she invent short shorts?

This is yet another reason why Jackie Gleason said in later years, his biggest regret is that he did not continue the HONEYMOONERS series. He was so right.

A Classic. SEASON 1 EPISODE 14 restored dvd box.

Who Will Win The Prize

Get a load of Norton dressed up and acting like a foppish French aristocrat from the 18th century. It's a real hoot, helping to lift this episode to near classic heights. You can imagine Ralph's reaction when Norton speaks in flowery French phrases and flutters a handkerchief in his face. The comedic contrast couldn't be better. Anyway, the gang is competing to win a $50 costume party prize at the Raccoon Lodge. Alice goes as a 12-year old girl with comely knees showing, much to Ralph's dismay, while Ralph manages to, well, look like an adult version of the kid's show Johnny Jupiter. And surprise! -- you'll never guess who wins. What a great combo they were, and so is this 30-minutes. So don't miss it.
