Six seasons into the series and they still have some very original episodes.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is about 'viaticals'--something that most people know little about and are seldom talked about on TV. This is when a company pays a recipient a portion of a financial settlement ahead of time and the company collects the actual settlement at a later date. For example, if you are terminally ill, there are companies that will pay you some of your death benefits when you are still alive so you can actually enjoy them.

In this episode, the viatical company is specifically marketing itself to heirs of rich folks--offering them a percentage of what they expect to earn when their relative dies. BUT, unlike a normal viatical company, this one helps matters along so they can collect the full settlement much sooner than later. In other words, after paying off the heir, they then arrange an 'accident' so the rich relative dies within weeks of the payoff.

While it's very hard to prove this criminal conspiracy, McGarrett is concerned enough that he sets up a sting--creating a fake rich guy and greedy young relative who needs the payoff now. And, not surprisingly, the company swallows the bait. However, there is a hitch...unexpectedly they learn that the company is even greedier than they thought. Not only do they plan on killing the rich person but the recipient as well--before he can cash the check! This way, the company gets it all! Can Steve and the gang unravel this before it's too late? A very unusual plot and nice acting make this one of the better episodes.

If Why Wait Till Uncle Kevin Dies? Had been an episode in any season 7 to 12, it may have been regarded as the best Five-0 for that season. As for Season 6, it comes in at best 4th rated behind Draw Me a Killer, Hookman, and One Big Happy Family.

This is a very clever and well written installment of Hawaii Five-0.

Why Wait Till Uncle Kevin Dies?

Warning: Spoilers
Actually the first time I saw it I thought it was just okay. Then on repeat viewings I liked it more and more. The whole scam run by Reversions, Inc. Was pretty clever and cold-blooded. Murray Matheson (who was in the George Peppard TV show BANACEK around this time) was really good as the slick and oily head of this "corporation". I liked the trapping of the bad guy in the house at the end to force a confession out of him. Pretty tense with the ticking clock! It actually reminded me of something out of the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE tv series, where they would set up a clever sting to entrap the baddies.

Programmed murder

When a rich man dies in a marine explosion, McGarrett discovers his brother and only heir has already spent his inheritance, "loaned" to him by a company which pays part of the inheritance and then, by contract, receives the full amount on the death of the benefactor.

Digging deeper, they discover a string of such incidents, and that each beneficiary was contacted by the financial firm involved. Further, each will was on record at a particular bank.

And thus Five-O embarks on a complicated scheme with a fake millionaire and a fake nephew ... an assistant district attorney from out of town who may be in danger if the sting is discovered. Thus plays out a complicated plan. However, will the criminals see through it?

Outstanding imagination and well played episode. Reminds me of reverse mortgages. ;-)
