Evolution to the rescue

Warning: Spoilers
Yet again the storyline description for this episode has absolutely nothing to do with the program... it is as if it was written by someone who has not watched the program.

So, we have a sick Rev Johnson being replaced temporarily by Dr Quinn who has been reading Darwin's later installment of his theory of evolution, following 11 years after The Origin of Species, which she explains to the children; and just as they become more interested in the ideas, the townsfolk predictably aren't.

The sub-plot has a new girl in the school being mis-treated by her Guardian Mr Daggart, and Dr Mike discovers that there is nothing legally she can do to protect the girl. When Sully points out that there are laws to protect animals, and Brians asks aren't children animals too? she decides to make a comparison between a child and an animal in order to get the protection she needs.

Incidentally, Darwin's Origin Of Species was published in 1859, Dr Mike says that was 11 years ago and places this story squarely in 1870. The following story of Washita is therefore out of sequence historically, as it is based on the Washita Creek Massacre that took place in 1868.
