The episode title can come from the mistake made misidentifying the victim due to sloppy work by many; hindsight is so very easy to encounter. The title can be the result of Captain Taylor suggesting the case be turned over to Internal Affairs; again, not solving the immediate crime of who killed Samantha Jones? What did anyone ever think Croelick was going to say when first confronted by Chief Johnson? Did it seem realistic Bill wanted to stay on death row for the murder Dr. Easton committed?
The story told is near perfect as Brenda pieces all the evidence into getting a confession from Dr. Easton at the episode end. How fitting was it for Bill Croelick to meet up with Chief Johnson at the end reviewing the results of the case.
A highly rated episode due to the storyline and how characters are portrayed because at the end, Chief Johnson brought Lt. Flynn to her side, although Andy didn't change his personality, he simply could see through Captain Taylor. Taylor's vendetta toward Brenda continued, but certainly met a snag when Flynn came over to Brenda's side on a permanent basis. The Roy and Kim Barnes initial interview in Chief Johnson's office is cute; we should be reimbursed for that funeral. Their subsequent conversation toward the end in the hallway with Det. Gabriel also is worth a listen with the squabbling before the detective separates them.
Bill Croelick's repeated performance deserves recognition. No truer monster could have existed up until now. It is unseeing how Brenda could have possibly turned Croelick around to confess again to the crimes he did commit; he had reason to leave a free man due to the mistakes made by certain individuals, i.e. Taylor, Powell, Graydon, etc. The foremost mission was to find the perpetrator of Samantha Jones' killing. Brenda accomplished her mission, albeit the murderer proved to be a surprise.
Ethics come into question when Taylor suggests to Pope send this girl to the crematorium as a Jane Doe, keep Croelick in prison, don't damage the reputation of our department; more damage would be done, by the action Taylor proposes.
